talk to people in the forums and slowly start associating them with their avatar, so eventually you start subconsciously imagining their avatar saying what they've typed instead of an actual person?

I do it a lot and it's usually really weird when I know someone isn't the gender of their avatar (like myself and a good friend on here) and still do it xD

Yes, but usually a person's avatar matches up well with their personality, so it doesn't create too many repercussions against me.
Unless their avatar's gender is different than their own, in which case it gets confusing for me. I don't know too many people like that, though. I know some, but not many.
