Prisca wasn't sure what she was doing anymore. Life was good, but it was missing a certain something. Excitement, she thought. There was nothing to challenge her. Nothing for her to do. Besides the small things she found to do every day. The collection of knowledge the dragon had accumulated over the years was interesting and brought hours of enjoyment for her. But it didn't fulfill her. Didn't make her feel a sense of purpose that she knew she was missing. She could leave the forest in search of it she knew. The question was did she dare put herself out into the dangerous world alone? She couldn't ask the dragon to come with her. And there was no one else to ask. At least not anyone she trusted enough to be alone with.

The mare sighed, picking her way through the bushes in the darkness. Her dreams were filled with strange visions. Her memory was trying to make her remember something she just couldn't. Memories weren't enough to break the barrier. Nor the odd things she had fallen with. The rose, the locket. The arm band most of all mystified her. The hair was not hers. But she knew it. It was in her dreams like a shadow cast across the other memories. Only the purple, always surrounded by blue, and the flash of a dark figure. It came with an emotion that confused her in its vagueness. It would seem she had forgotten how to feel about it, as well as the details of the darkness.

She came to the edge of the forest and stood in the shadows of the trees, watching the stars in the distance.

User Image Something was missing... Something was always missing. It had been- No, he couldn't remember even how long his head had been throbbing from all the "holes" that wracked his memory. Some of the holes were not as irritating as others, one in particular. This missing hole expanded far past his thoughts, memories, and drove him near mad.

All he could do is wander around aimlessly in hopes of making some sense of anything.

Now he found himself wondering under the canopy of the forest, gaining a glance of the stars whenever there was a break in the trees. The stars always brought a sense of calm. Especially on the coldest of nights when that feeling of loss was its strongest, he found comfort in the stars...

Azure eyes, set against pitch-black sclera drifted forward as he pulled his attention from the sky. Nostrils flared with the same eerie glow as his eyes.
Suddenly, something caught his attention. As if a string about his chest gave a tight pull. Sharp claws gripped at the earth while his head turned sharply toward the north. The pull only became stronger. Pleasant? No.. yes? The frustration caused his upper lip to curl and his dagger-like teeth to peek cruelly upon the world. Was this the cause of his torment?

Prisca was just starting to go back when a sensation caught her attention. More importantly, one on her leg. The one with the armband she was always cautious of. Tight across her skin so it didn't fall off. It was giving off little spurts of light like blue fire. From the inside. At first it startled her so that she backed away as if it was being caused by someone attacking her from the front. Like the further she backed away, the further she could get away from the blue fire. Then she realized it wasn't burning her. It only tingled. Like brushing the leaves on a bush as one passed. At that point it started to fascinate her as her purple eyes watched it dance across her pale skin. Strange, it had never done that before. And as she watched, it intensified. Just enough for a small fire to blossom and dance around her leg.

What had caused it to spark to life? Nothing had changed. Her thoughts were the same as always. Nothing new about herself had been discovered. Strangers had come and gone from the forest without even the smallest of spark from it.

Her head hurt. Maybe a little drink from the stream would cool her mind.

As she took a few steps forward, the sensation against her skin increased, again. The mare stopped, watching it. Eyes still on it, she moved forward a few more steps only to watch it come more to life. Curious, she followed the invisible path, her head still down, not watching where she was going until a root hooked in her hoof. With a loud gasp of surprise, she fell forward, the locket bouncing on the verge of slipping from her horn until she raised her head to keep it in balance.

Her vision was surrounded by the sight of purple until she could focus better to see the end of a tail. There was another sharp pain in her head as her eyes drifted further up to take in the strange sight that was standing in front of her.

Suddenly her heart was racing and her breathing quickened until she was breathing out of her mouth like she had been running. She closed her eyes tightly.

Xero tilted his head upward as he continued to listen and wait for whatever was causing this strange sensation. It tugged harder and harder with each passing moment. At first he could have sworn it had been the stars calling him?

*THUD!*

A growl, deeper than even that of a tiger's, rattled within his throat as his maw parted further. Once again the stars had stolen his senses it seemed. He had not even heard the mare's approach.

Cobra-like fangs, though void of poison, still very sharp, revealed themselves. Azure eyes narrowed. Claws gripped viciously at the earth as he turned around to see who would dare sneak up on him.

"....." For once Xero found himself frozen as he looked down upon the pale, yet alluring, mare. Nose wrinkled to display his pearly sharp teeth further. This strange tugging, this confusion, frustration, was it coming from here?

Azure eyes narrowed on the golden locket dangling from the mare's horn. Perhaps... perthaps it was from that device? Was that... strange device?

Prisca's eyes remained closed against the throbbing of her head. The stallion was forgotten against the pain.

Then just as soon as it had come it was gone. Her eyes opened once more as the last stab faded, leaving nothing behind but her confusion. She gave a start at the stallion in her vision. Not out of fear. She had truly forgotten he was there.

Calm eyes blinked above a calm expression. She only looked away long enough to get back to her feet, shaking out her mane so her silvery hair danced. The blue fire was now dancing crazily. For once she was also lost for words.

A normal mare might have been afraid at the stranger with the teeth unnaturally sharp for a herbivore baring them in her direction. Maybe it was having the dragon around for protection. No. That wasn't it. She would still be afraid if it was the dragon.

Prisca swallowed hard, unable to find words. Unable to also walk away or stop staring at him. She was sure she had never seen him before, as sure as one without her memory could be. Still, something about him kept her rooted to the spot.

Finally, she found her words. Enough to get out one sentence. "Why does my band seem to be reacting to you?"

Xero watched the mare very carefully. There wasn't a muscle movement that she had that he didn't take suspicious note of. In the forefront of his mind he found her to be suspicious, but ultimately he found her to be intriguing... It was impossible to pull his eyes away.

Slowly his lips relaxed to conceal his unnaturally sharp teeth. Herbivore? No, he had always loved warm blood and flesh that came with devouring meat. Perhaps this was why he fancied this mare? He had never tried horse before... And it still did not seem something he wanted to try.

But what of that golden trinket? It was familiar. This mare was familiar. Irritation washed over his features again. Nostrils flared with their blue glow deep within.

Though, her voice caused him to visually and instantly relax. Who was this?

Eyes took a break from their task to eye the jewelry on her arm. The blue aura seemed to be magnetized toward him. And the markings were much like the ones engraved in his own body.... was that his own fur?

<"Who are you....?"> He inquired with a deep and strange accent.

Prisca blinked long lashes, watching him with her head tilted slightly to one side. Watching the play of emotions on his face. Had she been aware of his thought process she might have finally felt a bit of fear at this stallion, but since she was oblivious she continued to grow more irritated herself at her own confusion. Gildenfire was intimidating in his own right. The glowing eyes. The wings. The aura of power that surrounded him. She had never been afraid of the yellow stallion, though. Just like with this one. Like she knew from the moment she set eyes on him that she had nothing to fear.

In fact, so little fear did she have that she laid back her ears at his own question. Did she not deserve an answer first?

"Me?" she asked, louder than before and not hiding her own irritation. Stretching out her neck, she stepped closer, heedless of the height he had over her, especially with her neck outstretched. "Better question is you, sir, coming in here looking like that. Are you chasing some battle? Or looking for a fight?"

It was curious why this mare had not displayed even an ounce of fear. Normally he would have been enraged by a lack of answer, but even her silence and body language were intriguing. Her eyes were just as alluring as the stars. They brought a sense of comfort and belonging.

Her next words caused Xero to lift his head, creating even more distance between their snouts.

Did she just? Looking like what? His nostrils flared. Not only did she dare speak in such a manner, but he felt even more compelled to answer her! A strange sensation. Though the desire was not without irritation.

Slowly his proudly lifted head leaned ever so close to her own snout. His lips curled back again to reveal his impressive set of sharp teeth and fangs. Azure eyes flashed briefly.

<"Perhaps I seek the warm blood of a mare to quench my thirst, and her tender meat to satisfy my hunger."> He spoke without even a hint of emotion. <"I always fancy a good hunt.">

Okay. That done it.

The mare's head snapped back up, her eyes betraying how she felt about that in a flash. She wouldn't admit it out loud, but it had surprised her. Caught her off guard. Her eyes widened for just an instant before she blinked them back to normal size. Still, she wouldn't say she was terrified. It was something she couldn't explain if she wanted to. And she so dearly wanted to. It wasn't normal to not be running in the opposite direction right about now. She couldn't decide if she was brave or just stupid.

Prisca watched him with a calm expression, taking special note of his teeth. The dragons had sharp teeth, too. But picturing Gildenfire butchering some little animal or a deer was disturbing. She quickly banished the idea and tossed her head so her nose was raised a little higher than it had been before in a proud arch. Her ears still remained back. She wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of thinking he could scare her.

There was also still that little feeling of knowing she was in safe hands. Too much time with the dragon, she guessed. She was getting used to being protected.

"There is no hunt if what you seek stands still," she answered. Turning her head to the side to present her pale neck, she tore her eyes away to stare deep into the forest. She held her head high and tense, trying to keep the small tremble from showing that had nothing to do with fear that he would take her offer.

The mare's sudden movement almost caused Xero to lurch forward. His head leaned a fraction forward while his neck tensed. To do what? His mind blocked him from even remembering that. It was an impulse. Why was it so frustrating to not be able to remember even one's own thoughts!

Azure eyes narrowed on the mare once more as she corrected her startled actions. She now seemed so proud, so bright... warm...

"...."

Than her words did well to bring him back into the confusing present where he had no idea what was going on, or what thoughts were reaching toward this mare. Who was she? She had yet to answer. The anklet on her was more than familiar. He could recognize his own hair and aura about it. It was-

All thoughts were lost to her brilliant display of neck.

<"You are blood and flesh all the same..."> Xero answered with a deep voice. A hint of longing managed to surface of his tone, but would be hard to detect if one were not listening.

Carefully be managed to move his nose in close, as if to accept the offered neck. His horns were minded as he moved in, he didn't wish to draw blood just yet.

Perhaps he was drawn to her concealed fear... He was often drawn to chase those who had displayed it. It made for a good hunt. But... was she really afraid? His mind worked to puzzle it out, and all the while he had not realized he had taken comfort to be so close to the mare's neck. Or perhaps he had forgotten he was so close. The thoughts were not as enraging when he was this close... he almost felt... calm.

But of course Prisca was listening. For the tone of his voice as well as what he was saying. Hanging on his every word as if he was giving her the formula for immortality. In her ignorant mind, she filed it away under being cautious around someone obviously dangerous. You didn't wear horns on your head unless you meant to use them, right? You didn't try to scare a stranger unless you had bad intentions.

When he spoke, she almost grinned. It brought her a sense of triumph, to know something about him. This only lasted a few seconds as the confusion over why she knew something about him dominated her happiness. There could be any number of reasons why. Not just the most obvious one. She pushed that one aside. She would believe it when her memories came back and told her otherwise.

Her shaking stopped when she heard him moved, one ear facing him, already established in her mind she was right he wouldn't do anything to her. She didn't expect him to come so close, however. His breath blew on her, making the small hairs on her skin stand up. She tried to move her head back around, but he was too close. She didn't want to touch him. At least not yet.

One purple eye calmly watched him as she shifted her feet, stepping away just enough so she could face him once more. She raised her head just enough to keep her nose inches from his. "You didn't answer my question," she said softy.

Xero was promptly taken from his 'moment' as Prisca moved just enough to removed their extreme closeness. His cold eyes glanced at her a moment. Reguardless of how much this mare did not seem she should be irritating, the lack of ability to grab at the memories and thoughts created a projection of his irritation onto her. His eyes brightened as he pulled his head back than lifted it high to its full height, forcing her to look up and allowing him to look down upon her.

Once again the shining locket caught his eye. What about that?

<"And you have yet to answer mine..."> He spoke once again with a lack of emotion.

Perhaps it was the irritation and the inability to grasp his own thoughts that egged on this stubborness. Part of him wished to obey, wanted to do so. It seemed that was who he was, should be. But every time he tried to figure it out his mind would be out of grasp. It was infuriating. He should have matery over his own mind! No, he would not cave to such desires he knew nothing about. For all he knew, she could be putting a spell on him. Or perhaps she was trying to take his mind to gain a slave. That thought was all the more infuriating.

A smile touched Prisca's lips at the answer. Like she had known he would react this way all along. It was a smirk of triumph. And why should she react this way? What was it about this strange stallion that got such reactions from her? She even caught herself fluttering her eyelashes at him slowly, like she was challenging him. Like, once more, she knew she could push his buttons as much as she wanted and he wouldn't do anything. She obviously knew him from somewhere, right? His attempts to scare her did nothing but draw her closer. Out of curiosity, she guessed.

"Yes, but I asked first, did I not? Have you never heard of ladies first?" Here her smile brightened, still maintaining the challenge instead of becoming friendlier. Despite her attachment to him, she wasn't about to just let her guard down. While her memories remained locked and she didn't know what harm he might mean to her.

Xero's nostrils flared allowing an eerie azure glow to flash within them. This mare was daring. Had she mistaken him for a gentleman? But there was no mistake. He was to a lady a gentleman. No? Where did that come from.

The fur along his back bristled. Perhaps this was left over agression from that red and golden scaled dimwhit that he crashed into after the fall. Something was stolen from him... it was important. A trinket? yes, but also a promise. Was it? The point was- no. What was the point.

<"Perhaps my manners have been stripped from me..."> Xero answered after a moment of pause.

Slowly his head lowered while his center horn slowly moved toward her own, and more specificlally the locket. He just wanted to touch it. Whatever it was. Azure eyes shifted focus from the locket to her eyes. A place that didn't seem all that bad to become lost in... Not that he was getting lost or comforted. What?

Once again his lips curled as his adgitation rose again. Why was something so simple as a memory so hard to grasp?

<"But as you wish... I will be your gentleman for the moment. Your trinket, I cannot say why it shares my aura, displays my own hair and markings."> Xero finally answered, irritation masked and muddled with confusion in his tone, without noticing his own choice of words. With that note clearly not in mind, he inquired of her again. <"Now, answer my question; who are you?">

Prisca's smile slipped as he spoke of his lack of manners. Not the reaction she expected to get. Despite the unknown reasons behind knowing she wasn't in danger, she still hadn't expected him to co-operate so easily. Not without much headbutting, anyway. She at least wouldn't have caved so easily until he gave her the satisfaction of answering her question first. Seeing as she had asked first and all. She wasn't about to let some stranger think he could order her around. No matter how handsome he was.

...Wait, what?

Blinking quickly as if it would rid her of the thought, the mare drew back slightly as he came closer. But not before he managed to touch the locket. The sound was almost so small she barely heard it.

The smile slipped altogether, turning into a frown at his answer. So she was supposed to give him a true answer while he answered nothing? Though she guessed there was a chance he truly didn't know. She didn't understand how someone could not remember giving someone else such an object as the band that sensed his presence. Unless he never gave it willingly. But something still told her that didn't make sense. She wasn't afraid, no matter how many teeth he showed.

"Not much of an answer, but fine. Who am I? Prisca Barone." With another smile, she added, "Any more, my gentleman?"
