Ilyra had been to Tale before, but that time it was looking for her best friend's sister in Yera. But Tahigwa was no longer her best friend it seemed. The two of them talked about the adventures they would go on together, the things they would see, and yet where was Tahigwa? Out on her own adventure leaving Ilyra behind. Everything in the forest had ties to Tahigwa, so she told her mother she would be leaving for a while. She wished to walk to the boarder of Zena and than come back. Her goal was that hopefully in this time she would care less about her best friends betrayal and also meet new people.
It took sometimes but she was pretty sure that she was close to Zena by now? Right? Taking the hat off her head Ilyra looked around and spotted a town in the distance. She frowned slightly, unsure if she should go or not. Her little trip had taught her that there were some of the leaf earthling that didn't care for her kind, or any kind of outsiders really. Maybe if she could find just one person first she could talk to them, and than they could let her know how the village felt about strangers? She had lost some of her arrows hunting and needed some new ones, and she was hungry for something different from what she had been eating every night for a change.

Warren was lying flat on his back under a small collection of trees. It was hot today and the aldebuck were huddled around Warren taking advantage of the shade as well. Warren was just outside the settlement to the north. His father was in the market buying and trading. Vers was moderately populated and sometimes Warren had to go in with his father Kendov. He would usually hide himself under the hood of his fathers travelers cloak. He wore dreads to intimidate people, and others still found his eyes unsettling to look at. So while he was with his father he usually tried to stay out of trouble. But today he was outside the settlement and alone where no one could bother him. Well, except maybe the aldebuck. Some of the doe were nibbling at his dreads and one started chewing on his pant leg.
He groaned and sat up to get them off of him. The one was still picking at his pants and he shoved her off. "You guys don't want to eat now, it's hot out!" he told them. They all just stared at him with their brown derpy eyes, then one of them bleated in protest. Warren wrinkled his nose. They were probably thirst, he would have to lead them the water pool just under a mile away.
"Alright... i'll take you" he said, as if they could understand his thinking. It would at least give him something to do until nightfall when his father would get back. They were preparing to take the herd towards sauti. Warren liked taking them there because the weather was usually better and the air was cooler. He had grown up bordering Tale and Sauti and was used to the slight change in climates and terrain.
Warren grabbed his things and his walking stick and started to make his way towards the watering hole. The aldebuk followed him with little effort and tried to keep up. He would stop periodically so the older ones could keep up, a little encouragement from his walking stick usually kept them going.

Ilyra walked around for a little, making sure that she stayed out of view, but luckily for her there wasn't many people outside of the town. She was about to give up and go around the town and try to make her own arrows later when she spotted a man with a bunch of aldebuck. She smiled, tilting her head slightly. She had seen the creature before, but she wasn't aware that they were ever herded like that. "You learn something new every day..." she said to herself happily.
The closer she got to the heard and the earthling the more curious she became. He had dreads? Earthlings didn't have dreads, her sisters had dreads. Maybe he was a halfling? But no that wasn't right, he didn't have anything that made him look like an sister to her. Plus he had crystals, on his shoulder and now that she was closer she could see that they were on his face.
She was close enough for him to hear her now so she decided to speak up. "Hello there." she called out. She didn't know what else to say. She wasn't closer enough that she wouldn't know if he was going to attack her, and she had an arrow in one hand, but she wasn't in a defensive position. She didn't want to make the man think that she was going to attack him, but she also wanted to be prepared in case he was one of the earthlings that hated her people. Now that she could see him clearly he was actually pretty cute, and more muscular than most of the earthling males that she had seen.

They were only halfway to the pool and a few were already getting tired. He wiped the sweat from his brow and tapped the laggers lightly with his stick to keep them going. He was looking down when he heard someone say something. He looked up quickly, a little surprised, he hadn't seen anyone else in the area.
Warren looked toward the stranger that called to him. He immediately noticed the skin. He had never seen anyone so pale. Leaf people were tan, and anyone who spent enough time in the sun soaked land of Tale would certainly start to. But there was something else about this person that was out of place.
He just stared at them for a minute, trying to register what he was looking at. The antenna gave it away. He was looking at an alkidike, but it didn't look much like what people had described of them. Green with big black eyes and black dread. He looked into the eyes of this stranger, they were red where they should be black. He was beginning to wonder if what he had been told about the alkidike was wrong or if he was looking at some sort of devil.
He stood with his shoulder to them, and he looked guarded. He figured he should say something, and he was curious. "What are you doing here?" straightforward enough, Warren didn't want to provoke it. Admittedly he had always wanted to fight an alkidike, but he knew he would need more training and wasn't prepared. And despite holding an arrow, this one didn't look dangerous.

She stood still, trying to see him more. He was muscular, and tall for an earthling. She had seen many of them, and most of them were pretty short. She had taller sisters, but for an earthling he was tall. When he asked what she was doing there she finally got to see his eyes. They were different, she had never seen anyone with eyes like that. He was different, like her! Not as different as her granted, but still different. They were black like her sisters, like the eyes she should have.
"Are you a halfling? Your eyes have black like my sisters, you are pretty tall, and you have our dreads. Are you a sister?" she observed. She had wanted to know about the settlement, and where to get a few more arrows, but now this was more interesting. She had never seen a sister this far out, not even a half sister, and she wanted to know if that was what this man was in front of her. Plus the fact that he was different meant that she had a soft spot for him. "But no you can't be, your eyes have blue in them also and you have the stones everywhere." she mused, more talking to herself now than him.
She put the arrow away, she was pretty sure that if he meant her any harm he would have done something by now.

Was he a what? A sister? He was very certain he was a man, but he didn't think the alkidike meant any offense. Perhaps because they are all one sex they don't recognize genders like an earthling would. Was it even appropriate to call it a she? The alkidike were strange to him, but he admired the idea of a warrior people.
She noticed his eyes, it was hard not to. She must not be familiar with the local legends. Probably a good thing. Warren had always been tall, but so was his father. A huge round mountain of a man. His mother was shorter and thin. She had blue eyes and spiky crystals on her shoulders; the only parts of her he inherited.
Warren shook his head, "I am no sister of yours." She was not at all what he imagined. Alkidike were supposed to be fierce warriors that attack you on sight. And here this one was, far from home and asking him questions about his heritage. Maybe she's far from home because she's different?. If that was the case they probably had more in common than he cared to acknowledge.
"But I am half leaf and wind" for a second he thought she may have been hunting his aldebuck when she put the arrow away. It had happened a few times in the past. There were plenty wild herds of aldebuck around and sometimes hunters targeted his. "Were you trying to hunt my herd?" he asked, and nodded towards her arrows.

When Warren said that he wasn't a sister of hers she nodded. Well that cleared that mystery up. "I didn't think so, but I had to ask. Some halfbreed sisters are males." she said with a nod. Tahigwa's half brother Yaholo was a halfbreed and a male, but no she wouldn't think about Tahigwa. That was why she took this trip, so that she wouldn't think about Tahigwa.
When he told her that he was still half, half leaf and half wind, she nodded. She had not had much experience with wind earthlings, but she had met a lot of wind ones. She was about to comment on this when he asked if she was trying to hunt his herd. She looked confused before realizing that he meant with her arrows. "Oh no, I came over here to ask about the settlement and their views on my kind? I mean a lot of earthlings aren't comfortable around Alkidikes, and my skin condition makes even some of my sisters uneasy." she shrugged. She use to hate this, but over time she had become use to it. It was just a way of life.
"I only have a few arrows left, and if the settlement was friendly I wanted to go buy some and maybe something yummie to eat. I've been traveling for some time and eating the same thing over again has been getting boring." she confessed. She wasn't sure if telling him that she had a few arrows was the best idea, but again she felt safe at the moment. Plus she had enough to protect herself if necessary.

Warren honestly didn't know what the people of Vers would make of her. He got odd looks, and she certainly would have trouble blending in. Skin color aside her height was obvious enough. He could relate, he had family that avoided him because of his eyes. "I'm not sure just walking in would be that easy"
some of the herd began to wonder about and Warren had to push them forward again towards the water hole. "My father is getting supplies for our trip to Sauti right now, he might be able to get you a few things." he suggested as he walked with his aldebuk.

She frowned slightly. That wasn't good news, and she had been really looking forward to getting some new arrows. She also wondered if there were any differences between the arrows that her sisters made and the arrows that these earthlings made. Plus there was the food. Eating the same thing over and over again sucked. It made this adventure not quiet as wonderful as she would have liked.
Trip to Santi? Maybe she could come with them. That would give her a little bit of a sense of adventure. "I'm also going to Saunti. I want to reach the boarder of Zena and than come back. And I would be forever in your debt if your father could just pick me up a few arrows. I'm not nearly as good at making them as I am at shooting them." she said with a laugh.

travel to Sauti... with an Alkidike? Warren grimaced a little, he had only just met this one and she already wanted to take a trip with him. Surely she must realize traveling with a herd of animals would take longer than if she went by herself. But she didn't seem all that concerned about the time. He had the feeling she was looking for some sort of excitement.
He knew his father, Kendov would probably be happy to have her along. He would probably want to talk her ear off.. Warren often lacked his father's level of enthusiasm. He wished she hadn't suggested to come along, but frankly Kendov would have invited her anyway.
Then as if thinking of his father some how summoned him, Kendov could be seen leaving the city. He was on his way to them and was hauling a huge pack on his shoulders. "I think he can manage that. Thats him now"Kendov was a huge man, but he was also round and loveable. His eyes seemed to be smiling as he made his way to them. "Warren! What is this, are you making friends?" He asked with his booming voice. He dropped the pack he was carrying and it hit the sand with a heavy thud. Warren felt like he was teasing him a little. He didn't make friends. He hadn't had one in over a decade. Warren appeared glum next to his smiling and boisterous father. "No father, she is just a traveler, a stranger around here." he probably didn't need to add that last bit, it was obvious enough.

Suddenly there was another man walking towards them, one with a huge pack on him. She was about to ask if she should hide when Warren pointed out that was his father. She smiled and nodded, waiting for the man to get closer to them before she spoke. Warren was a big man, but his father was a whole differet story! He was bigger than Warren, but he seemed to lack the roughness that Warren's expressions held. He seemed more friendly, and upon hearing his first words Ilyra guessed that he was just as friendly as he looked!
She was about to answer him when Warren spoke up and than she frowned. "We could be friends?" she offered with a shake of her head before she turned towards Kendov. "Hello, your son here tells me that you might be able to help me? You see I'm traveling towards the start of Zena and I could really use some new foods and new arrows. However I'm not sure if they would welcome me in the settlement so I was wondering if you could get the things for me? I have stuff to pay for the supplies and the help. she said handing out a bag of coins. While she would normally not give all her money to a stranger Kendov seemed trust worthy and she didn't know how much everything would cost there.

Warren tried to act like he hadn't heard her. He still wasn't sure about her. The idea of making a friend actually felt scary to him. He wasn't skilled in conversation and hated pleasantries. His father was stern enough to teach him to be polite but that was about as much as Warren could manage. He looked over to his father who was taking of the pack "Here son!"Warren caught the heavy pack and let out a 'omph' and a grunt as he shifted it in his arms. "That one is yours, I figured I would be nice and give you the little one" Kendov told him with a smile. Warrens expression looked burdened as he adjusted the pack onto his shoulders but he didn't look surprised. A pack this size was typical for their usual trips to the border or farther settlements. Kendov brushed the sweat from his forehead before responding to Ilyra. "Oh my! You are going far from home!" his voice boomed. "I would be happy to get those things for you! I have to run back to grab my pack anyway so its no trouble." He took coin pouch and poured a few in his hand to count only taking what he would need. "You're in luck I know a guy who has quality arrows for cheap. and I have more than enough provisions so I'm happy to share any food with you." Kendov was known for being generous and overly friendly. He didnt seem phased by her race and smiled at her warmly as if she was an old friend. "I have seen an alkidike out this far only once before back when I was a young prentice. and if my memory serves me right I thought your people were green! But you look quite pale, are you ill? should I get you some medicine as well?" Warren shot his father a look, he had never mentioned meeting an alkidike before! It bothered him that he had not said anything about it till now.

She watched the two of them interact, a small part of her missing her mother as she did so. When the older man said the large bag was the smaller one her eyes widdened. She was use to seeing bigger sisters carrying things that size, but earthlings? This was the first time she had seen one of them so strong.
When Kendov finally answered her she smiled. She was in luck than! Not only would she get arrows, and quality ones at that, but she was also going to have someone to travel with! This was just wonderful.
When Kendov asked if she was ill she shook her head. This was normal, and he was better than most. Earthlings and sisters alike always wondered about her strange coloring. "No, I am all right and very healthy. I have a rare condition among my sisters that changes my skin and hair color. I have a special lotion I put on to make sure I don't burn. Oh and the silly hat." she said with a nod of her head and a motion to the hat she had on when she first saw the town.
"Thank you for your concern though!"
Elf Princess Flannery don't even worry about it! I took forever myself XD

A skin condition that changes hair and skin color... Warren pondered that a bit. He wondered if it was anything like his eye coloration.
Kendov for a moment looked embarrassed of himself. "Oh! I think I have heard of something like that before. Warren here has the same problem with his eyes, they never did look normal. But whats normal to one isn't normal to another!" he said with a bit of wisdom.
It was hard for Warren to imagine how he came from a man so cheerful, when he himself was so glum. In times like this he found his father embarrassing, but he had always been supportive.
Kendov clapped his hands together. "Well It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance I'm Kendov Tah, and this is my son Warren. I'm going to leave you two here while I go round up some supplies for you!" He looked over to Warren and added, "If you would, round up the herd and get them ready to move."
Warren nodded, "Alright," he said as he shifted under the pack. He started to walk towards the waterpool where the aldabuck were re-hydrating, and gestured for Ilyra to follow.
Kendov nodded to her before he left to go back to the settlement.

Ilyra nodded. She liked this man more and more with every word that he spoke. Her skin was normal to her, and honestly Warren's eyes were more normal to her than Kendov's were. To her family member black eyes were more common than red eyes or eyes that were different color. It was good that Warren had such a good father as Kendov. "Exactly! There is no real such think as normal." she said with a laugh.
She nodded towards Kendov and than headed after Warren. "He is such a cheerful person, I bet people everywhere you go love him." she said stealing a glance back at Kendov. She was a little jealous of him honestly. She was a nice person, but she looked different so not many people took time to get to know her. She was lucky to run into someone else that was different.
"So you two just travel around with them?" she said pointing towards the herd of aldabuck.
