Reuniting with her family for Christmas had been exactly as uncomfortable and awkward as Acanthite had anticipated. Once again her brother had done something fascinating enough that her parents had elected to ignore her, and this time it had really gotten to her. She left in a huff right after dinner and skated out to the park to blow off steam, and then powered up when she still had more steam to work with.

The dark senshi stalked around the edge of the park now, skates tied together and over her shoulder (though she was genuinely not sure what would have happened if she had left them on when she had henshined up), practically hoping she would run into a senshi or someone to fight.

Damn Hiro for being the big genius in the family. Acanthite did not need him anyway. She was involved in things now that were far more important than school or grades or music awards or orchestra solos. She almost wanted to drain him, to put him to some use. Too bad her parents would never know just how important to the world their daughter really was.

Grumbling, she kicked at the metal bars of the fence surrounding the Destiny City park.

The Christmas holidays were something that had never been big on Ate list, even more so now that she was presumed “missing and/or dead” by local papers and half-arsed coppers – all of which had inevitably filtered across the ocean to her family back in England. Her mum, sister, even her little brother would now know. All of them she was certain would be missing her and celebrating this Christmas just as much as she was. That was to say not at all. In this she couldn’t help but respected them, she doubted even if her future hadn’t been tied in with the Negaverse that she would have returned home, but Christmas had been a special time, a time for family and friends to reunited and get absolutely trollied on mulled wine. Now she had essentially ruined it, possibly broken her mother heart, destroyed her baby brothers confidence in the world, shattered her sisters ego of being the better sibling. She had joked for the first few days that they wouldn’t miss her for she had hardly missed them in the world wind that was her life. Yet when days had turned into weeks that turned into months she couldn’t help but spy on them from afar only to find they had started an investigation into her disappearance. She saw her mum crying on cameras, stood mere meters away from her sister who had come over to speak face to face with the police in charge. She listened to her brothers words being read out begging for people to come forward with any information and for her to come home.

She would like to say she had wept when she saw these things, but she only felt a deeper hated and this seemed to help dry her eyes at night. If it wasn’t for Order trying to brainwash her onto their side she wouldn’t have to wear the glamor to help disguise herself from the traitors. She could have kept her family, her friends, her job. She would have shown them the light, would have found a way to keep them safe. She may have been murderous but she still felt love for those she cared for, no matter if her hatred could blind her to them at times.

If it was the last thing she did she would make the court pay that little bit more for taking away her chance of saying a proper goodbye. Even if they became…expendable, at least she could have had the chance to say goodbye to them. No matter how much she wished now the glamor could not be broken for her family, she was lost to them as much as they were to her.

It made her want to punch something really hard in the face.

Having “ditched” Lyssa down a drain pipe Ate had circled round the long way (that cat could find her anywhere) and ended up coming back though the park aiming for the woods and the thought of destroying a tree. The gentle clang of metal caught her attention and with a brief flick of energy sought out the aura that spiked her senses. She slouched slightly feeling the beautiful taint of chaos talk back to her, it would have been better if an Order Senshi or young Knight had walked in on her foul mood but maybe gentle conversation would be better except…Ate couldn’t recall the last gentle conversation she had had. Following the taint she saw Acanthite, beautiful against the dark backdrop of winter, clearly annoyed at whatever the metal railings had done to her.

“I never thought hitting a fence could look so attractive, what’s got you all in a huff beautiful?” When in doubt Ate always relied on shameless flirting even if her heart wasn’t really in it tonight, she could help but feel a little happier at a pretty face.

Acanthite's family had never celebrated Christmas religiously, but the holiday was so pervasive this side of the Pacific that it had managed to become part of her parents' routine anyway. It was time off of work and school, which was always welcome, even if it generally also meant awkward family time.

That was what bedroom doors were for, of course, but there were still days, like the day of her brother's Christmas concert, that dragged Mayumi out to spend time watching her parents fawn over the musician in the family.

She had made her excuses to get away tonight finally, and figured patrolling would help her blow off some steam.

The other dark senshi's compliment was met with a raised eyebrow and a look of slight irritation. "... What?" came Acanthite's reply. Like what the actual hell. She looked at her boot, then the fence, then the other lady. "Whatever revs your engine, I guess." The stranger was on the same side, at least, although the Senshi of the Cataract would not have been opposed to having a White Moon bimbo to s**t-kick tonight.

"I'm just out here patrolling around to get away from Christmas and all it's s**t family time," she grumbled. "If you've got this park covered, though, I'll give you your space." The auburn-haired girl started to walk away.

The reply wasn’t a surprise to Ate, her forwardness was always measured too brass and her words had been known to shock a whore into priesthood but that was who she was and no matter how many bridges she had burned or relationship she had soured with her candid attitude she always failed to dispel it. Yet she did know when to tone it down at least and this was one such occasion.

“I can imagine what you’d find under my car hood would scare the s**t out of you” she mused smiling. Ahh maybe she couldn’t dispel it, even when trying she couldn’t help it. Although she was quicker to stop any disappearing act from the new girl as she took a step forward as if to grab her arm but let her hand fall before any contact was made.

“Leaving already? I doubt a park needs two of us to hunt down energy but company is always appreciated…unless you wanted to do something more fun of course?”

Another smiled filtered onto her face. Ate knew the girl would either run a mile, punch her or…well take her up on such an offer. One could always dream.

“The name is Eternal Sailor Ate but for you cutie, you can call me Ate.” She looked her over appreciating the beautiful fuku she wore taking note of the lack of wings or strong power signature. “I see you have yet to earn your ranks but give it time, you will soon be a real menace on the streets.” She meant the last part jokingly, she could hardly call herself a menace – more a health hazard.

Acanthite started to flinch away when the superior senshi reached for her arm, but felt a bit bad about it as her hand fell back to her side. Maybe company would be good for her. From her new family. This other girl came on strong, but the grey-eyed girl knew from her energy signature alone that they at least had one powerful thing in common.

The innuendo went over the younger girl's head, but she smiled faintly and nodded at Ate's offer for company in the general sense, at least. "Sure. Sorry. Just had a bad day, and I shouldn't take it out on you."

She curtseyed and responded to the introduction: "I'm Acanthite. Nice to meet you." Then she laughed lightly, and added, "Yeah, I'm still pretty new. Taken a little energy, but no starseeds yet. But I want to work up to it, you know?"

The auburn-haired girl then fidgeted a little, chewing her lip as she looked around. "I could go for beating up a White Moon girl, but I don't really feel anyone nearby...." she mused with a frown.

Ahh there it was, the inevitable pang of regret that struck Ate when she realised she had come on too strong…and then the even more annoying feeling of misplaced nurturing care. Dammit, it happened every single time! She just couldn’t help it! One minute she was a hound dog and the next she was mother duck with all the feelings she had about other corrupt Senshi pouring out. No matter how much of a slut Ate the person was, Ate the Senshi cared deeply for those like her and the smile that she etched onto her face was sincere and kind as the girl explained her bad mood.

“Hey chick, no worries ok, I doubt you’ll be the meanest thing I find on these streets tonight but you will definitely be the cutest.” Even more so when the girl curtseyed! Ate had to suppress a laugh as the girl performed the move trying to remember the last time anyone curtsey in front of her, she could remember a few who had gone down on both knees but never a curtsey. There were many people with better manners than Ate but to find them in her own kind was always a plus.

“Ahh well Starseeds can take a little getting use too, especially with the consequences that follow but then again we are doing it – “ she closed her eyes briefly and signaled to the sky with a flutter of her hand “ for her.” She said it with such warmth that it could easily be interpretation as love but Ate had already opened her eyes and began walking around Acanthite as if studying her.

“Ahh your name is a mineral then, you lucky devil – corrupted right away! What I wouldn’t give to have found my place as soon as you but alas, not everyone gets to find a sexy general willing to stick their hand through your chest!”
Said with an air of anger Ate stopped pacing and became thoughtful. She had always hopped she could find a better way to be awoken to Metalia light but she had yet to find such a thing, it made her chest hurt just thinking about it.

“I am sorry if your experience was painful, I know mine was, but it is worth it I promise. I am honored to have you on our side, we just have to get you earning your wings and since your right about no Mooners being around….” She smiled devilishly as stood hands on hips. “Your just going to have to fight me instead.”

Acanthite felt her cheeks warm slightly at the compliment - she had been called "cute" before, but it was not always a welcome compliment. She nodded as Ate continued, and fidgeted a little where she stood as the other girl walked in a circle around her.

"Sexy general?" she repated with another chuckle, higher-pitched this time. The Senshi of the Cataract knew she was definitely blushing now. "I mean, he was cute and all but I don't think he bats for my team, if you know what I mean...." Much as she might have loved to kiss Zinkenite as thanks for awakening her, or just because, Acanthite rather doubted she had the stones to ask anyway. He was her superior officer, too!

Chewing her lip a little, Acanthite nodded and shrugged then. "It did hurt, but trust me, I already know it was worth it." She eyed the older girl then, and asked hesitantly, "You were another one who was on the other side but got brought over to us later? What's that even like?"

And then at the suggestion of a fight, her grey eyes widened in surprise. "O-oh, okay, we could do that," Acanthite replied, her tone decidedly unassertive. She clenched her fists and shifted into a ready stance. "If I win, will you tell me one thing you remember about being on the other side?"

Ate watched as Acanthite’s rose coloured cheeks grew brighter at her words and couldn’t help herself from grinning like a wild cat. It was so precious when people blushed, it was the one of the few emotions Ate could really get behind and enjoy. The effect happened whether you wanted it to or not and only those with a high control factor could stop such a thing from happening to them, she appreciate the vulnerability it brought and it seemed more often than not that only the innocent could still blush around her.

“Zinkenite? Ha-ha yes, I think you are right about him, shame really….but if anything it just makes you even more special. A General-King of that experience finding the promise in one so young – “ She approached the girl, looking down at her though heavy darkened eyes and smiled “- means you are very exceptional indeed…”

She felt the urge to cup her hand beneath the girls chin and bring her closer but the younger Senshi was already moving into her defensive pose, her question striking interest in the Eternal. She took a step back of her own, her feet finding purchase on the ground as she brought up her arms, her biceps tensing slightly as she prepared herself. Ate was not the shrinking dainty flower everyone wanted her to be as a Senshi with the typical long legs and delicate arms . No she was stocky and she was strong, working out daily to keep herself in a condition of strength and power. This dedication showed on her arms as they bulged under her movements - she was by no means a body builder (her addition to smoking put a stop to that sort of heavy training) but she could handle herself against any man or woman in the ring. She was hoping this Senshi knew how to battle.

Grinning she flipped her long hair behind her shoulders and beckoned for her to start. “That sounds like a good deal gorgeous, lets rock.” And with that she threw herself towards Acanthite with her first drawn back for a punch.

Acanthite had legs and endurance from roller derby, and she could take a punch, but even with the bonus power she received from being a senshi, her upper body strength was a bit lacking. She got a reminder about this as she tried to block Ate's punch and ended up getting slugged pretty hard regardless.

"Ow, crap," she grumbled, staggering back a little before trying to lash out a low kick with one heeled boot. Good thing she knew how to cover up bruises, at least.

As Ate’s fist connected with Acanthite she turned her fleeting smile into a grimace, her eyes narrowing slightly as the girl blocked her attack but not well enough. “Faster! You need to watch my shoulders, it will tell you where am going to hit, where to block!” She needed the Senshi to be good, no better than good, great. She couldn’t have her failing where so many others had, she needed her strong and able to resist whatever challenges she would face in the coming months. She couldn’t lose another Senshi to the White court, she couldn’t have any more brainwashed by their lies. She couldn’t lose a possible allie, a possible fable.

The kick caught Ate shins full on as the boot scraped down her tights making them ladder. The skin beneath broke against the heel and Ate stifled a hiss as the stinging erupted over her leg. “Ugh, better! But aim to break their legs, don’t pat it! If you get the chance stand on their foot and use the other leg to smash down on their knee!” It was a move that needed a lot of practice and balance but was devastating when used properly. Ate could only image the amount of broken knee caps she had left in her wake.

“Failing that you should drop down and swipe with your leg, take them down, trip them. If you don’t think you can take them on in a fair battle then don’t, fight dirty because they will not hold back!” She twisted into another position around Acanthite in some bizarre dance move that ended with her facing the younger Senshi’s back and with a jab she aimed another punch towards her kidneys, not at full force mind you but enough for the girl to feel the hit if it landed. She wasn’t trying to kill her after all.

Acanthite grunted uncomfortably as she whipped around too slowly to avoid a jab in the kidney. A sensitive spot, she knew, and the ache made her want to ask for a moment to recover, but ... Ate was right. She had to be faster, stronger, and better.

The girl attempted to use her momentum from twisting around to swing an elbow high, at her opponent's face-level. A brutish, slightly uncoordinated maneuver, but Acanthite intended it to be more of a distraction than a real attack.

And, rather unexpectedly, she let out a sort of roar as she did so - perhaps her body's way of shaking off the hits she had taken. It did make her feel more focused and sort of powerful.

Backs of the knees, she knew, were the way to get someone to fall, and if nothing else, the grey-eyed girl knew all about how to knock down and avoid being knocked down herself. Following her elbow, she swept her leg down low, too, aiming to kick Ate around behind one leg to drop her to the ground.

As the punch landed Ate made sure to rein in as much force as she could while still making it apparent she had punched the girl. She didn’t want her peeing blood for a month and neither did she want the girl to hate her either. She just wanted her to be strong, to fight temptation of falling under Order’s trap and the only way to do that was to be physically and mentally tough. It was only now that she realized how she cared for her fellow corrupted, they were a broken family right now that needed to be restored. She would find a way to fix them, one way or another.

She was about to shout out encouragement when the elbow came lurching into her vision, she raised both her arms to block feeling the connection slam against her forearm. She prepared to push back causing Acanthitie to spin when she felt her legs being swept from underneath her. The blow wasn’t powerful but it was quick and Ate had no time to regain her balance before she was falling backwards, her right side taking the brunt of the hit as she landed with a huff. She wasn’t injured but her back still spasms with the hit yet instead of a yelp she laughed, her eyes alight with pride.

“Ha! Well done!” Grinning she flipped herself back up to land in a crouch before standing up, her gloved hands brushing away the dirt from her backside “Dam girl, nicely, nicely done! You know your pretty quick and we should make that your advantage! I mean I may be able to pack a punch but if your quicker than me and fight dirty you will win every time.” Well…maybe not every time Ate thought briefly but there was some promise there, she just needed the Senshi to work at it.

“You need to take up running or something, maybe karate, I dunno what’s fast and furious? Haha or we could go for another round? See if I let you catch me off guard again?”
