Never mind that it's not on the waterfront and that the tavern is more of your average bar. They serve a decent drink and will provide a room to stay, if need be. It's a bit of a walk from the square.

~ Sasha stayed at the man's side as they approached the tavern. She kept looking up at him every once in a while with a curious look on her face. "I never did ask your name..or would you rather we stay as complete strangers?" she spoke lightly, eager to know more about him. She then crossed her arms behind her while keeping at his side. Sasha's eyes could not stay still for they were filled with curiosity as they walked passed building to building. ~

"Derrick," he said curtly over his shoulder. This was a nice, well-lit part of town and he was glad to have gotten out of the shadows a little, even if it did mean leaving the garden. "I don't believe you told me your name either."
The tavern area wasn't very full, considering it had only just gotten dark. But by nightfall the place tended to get crowded.

~ As they walked up to the tavern she noticed how direct he was. "Derrick.. that's a nice name" she smiled and continued "if I were to have any friends they would call me Sasha" she said as her fingers ran through her hair and behind her ear. Upon entering the tavern her bravery disappeared and she took her position behind him. "Such an old looking place.." she whispered from behind him. ~

"Nice to meet you Sasha." He wasn't sure how to respond to her assertion that she had no friends. She must have at least one.
He laughed a little at her shyness when they walked in. "It's been here longer than I have, at least. This is the historic district. Just stay away from the creeps and you'll be fine. The bartender can probably help you get a room, unless you want to grab something to eat first."

~ Sasha smiled lightly at the sound of his laugh. "That sounds like a good idea." she hesitated and asked "Will you be joining me or do you have somewhere to be?" Her gaze then shifted towards the bartender who was cleaning the bar and seemed pretty kind and muscular as an individual. "I mean I'll understand if you have somewhere to be. You seem like a busy man." ~

Out of the corner of his eye, the other bartender, Richard, watched the couple as they entered and conversed, cleaning a glass with a cloth so as to not seem idle. Interested in the pair, he walked over to the other man cleaning the bar and said, "I can take over here, man. You can take a break, I'll finish off your shift."
The other bartender hesitated for a second, then grinned, nodded, and walked the way Richard had come into the staff area of the bar. Richard, meanwhile, assumed his former position on the bar, wiping off the remainder of the bar's surface before placing the cloth on a nearby rack and standing up straight.
"Can I get you two something to drink?" he called out to the man and woman in a friendly, warm voice.

"I guess I can stick around," said Derrick, taking a seat. Dione wasn't going to be coming home tonight, anyway. He could probably allow himself to have a good time. The bartender greeted them and he quickly placed his order. "I'll have the salmon and a vodka on the rocks."

Richard gave the man a smile and a nod. It was always nice to have people inside the bar, so long as they weren't rude or overcrowded. "Coming right up,sir." Then, as he grabbed a glass and a bottle of vodka for the man's drink, he turned to the woman and said, "And what would you like, miss?"

~ Sasha smiled and took a seat across from Derrick. Her eyes shifted towards the bartender and ordered as well. "I'll have the salisbury steak and a iced tea please" Crossing her legs, Sasha accidentally kicked Derrick's leg with her toe. "Oooo sorry" she blushed and looked down at the table's texture. ~

Noticing the girl accidentally kick the guy in the leg and blush, Richard choked down a laugh and set himself to prepare their drinks, filling a glass with ice and pouring vodka over the cold cubes, causing them to crackle, then swinging to the refrigerator and reaching in to pull out a canister of iced tea, which he opened and poured into a taller glass. He poured a few more ice cubes into the glass of iced tea, slid a straw into the liquid, stuck a slice of lemon onto the glass' brim, then carried both drinks over to the couple's table and placed the beverages in front of them.
"Here's your vodka, sir," Richard said to the man, "and here is your iced tea, miss. Your food will be along shortly. Enjoy the drinks until then." Then he turned and strode into the kitchen to place the orders for the couple's food.

Derrick flinched a little at the contact but it was only a reflex - he didn't really mind.
"That's fine," he said quickly, peering around the room. Even in a crowded area like this he still felt pretty much alone. Maybe he alienated himself. That was probably it. Their drinks came and he immediately began sipping on his vodka, awaiting the buzz that was sure to hit by the time he was halfway done. He'd taken up a habit of drinking recently. Meanwhile, Sasha had ordered iced tea, which made him feel a little reckless.
"So are you new in town?" he asked, making small talk.

~ Adding a little sugar to her tea, Sasha looked up at him as she responded. "O yeah.. I'm in the middle of.. I guess you could say research....What is that?" she took Derrick's drink and smelt it real quick. "Vodka wow...that smells...horrid" she laughed and gave it back to him. "Does it take the edge off or something? Sorry I'm just so new to everything.." she smirked and rubbed her arm out of nervousness. ~

Derrick laughed dryly when she asked if vodka took the edge off. "Yes. Something like that," he said. He couldn't believe she didn't know what it was. Taking a sip, he wondered about the other thing she'd mentioned - the research. "What are you researching?" he asked casually.

~ Sasha smiled weakly and took another sip from her tea. "Well.. when I said I was abandoned I was found by a forest spirit..." she hesitated then took in a deep breath feeling relieved to say it. Looking down at her hand she realized how ridiculous it sounded, "I told you it would make me sound crazy.." Sasha sighed and looked around the tavern as she rested her chin on her hand. ~
