Welp…here she was again…hesitating in front of another training course portal because she didn’t want to go alone…but didn’t have the gall to ask anyone to do one with her.

Molly sighed.

She then fiddled with the glove she hadn’t put on yet, and just stared at the portal. This time she wanted to try the Sun Training Course, because she felt like if there was another division she’d be in aside from Mist, well…it’d be Sun. But there were apparently a lot of little shadowlings and such…and maybe she need a buddy!

That sounded safe…

Dylon merrily strode his way toward the Sun Training course. While he was a Moon, he felt he needed more training with Vahn. Fighting was still so alien to him, and he'd yet to fight any real battles. He hoped to remedy this now.

Along the way, he saw Molly standing by the portal in. "HI Molly!" Dylon hollared, trotting up beside her. "Are you doing this to? I've never done it before."

Molly startled, dropping her glove and curls bouncing as she whirled around to face who hollered at her.

“…Dylon!” She cried, both with relief and genuine surprise and happiness. “It’s so good to see you!” It’d been a while! “…Oh…too…?” She bent to pick up the glove she dropped, and then straightened. “…Oh! Do you want to do the Sun run too?” She beamed at him. “...Um…” She looked nervous now. “…CouldIpossiblybotheryoutodothisrunwithmeplease?”

She paused, a bit red.

"But if you want to do it on your own I understand completely and that's alright!

Dylon flinched before chuckling at Molly's startled reaction. She was the cutest little hunter that ever did walk Deus, to be sure. "It's so good to see you too!" He smiled widely, tilting his head as she fumbled with her glove and her words.

"Aaaaaah I think I caught all that you said. And of course I'd love to run the course with you! It'll be way more fun~." Dylon winked.

Sun Hunter
SHADOW RUN

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
General Information
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.

If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.

    Mechanics
  • You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
  • Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
  • If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
  • After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

  • Trainees: 0 recovery
  • Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
  • Hunters: 1 recovery
  • Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

Dylon was then hugged, and hugged tightly. “Oh thank you so much!” Molly cried. She pulled back and beamed, slipping on her glove and flexing her fingers briefly before she turned back towards the portal. “Good luck, Dylon!” She chirped. “Let’s do our best!” She beamed wider and then stepped through the portal first, since she felt it was her responsibility to do so as the older and more advanced hunter.

As soon as Molly stepped through the portal, she had summoned her lance, and got to work starting to fend off the shadowlings.

Molly's tight hug was met with one to match, a great smile spread over his face. Such a precious young woman. The trainee followed after her, wondering what exactly this training course entailed. Was it difficult? Did it involve puzzles or obstacles?

He was met with a wall of black.

Molly's enormous weapon and her subsequent charging snapped him to focus. He summoned Vahn's twin katars and launched himself forward. He tried to think of it like a video game. A very real, very scary video game. Hack and slash, and win the game!

Apparently Molly was too much of a worry wart, because she looked back to see how Dylon was faring…

It was her downfall. That moment of not paying attention had her swarmed with shadowlings, and an instant fail for the course. She was rescued by the senior hunter on duty, and then taken back to the observation room. Sorry Dylon. Fight those shadowlings like how you do math homework. Hard and all night long.

Sorry Molly. Dylon was equally as much of a worry wart. As soon as he saw Molly fall, he lost his focus. "Molly! Are you oka---ACH!!" And he too fell.

He failed as an Asian. Didn't work hard enough.

Well, Molly insisted on taking some time for them to recovery, but she definitely wanted to try again. She needed to. So after they were all patched and rested up, she was back through the portal. The urge to check on Dylon was strong, but if she just focused and fended off the shadowlings, that would no doubt help him as well.

Dylon took the rest, most of the time mentally screaming. He'd never been in such a terrifying situation. Just a game, he reminded himself. It was just a game. Like virtual reality that really hurt.

So this time around, he tried not to worry about Molly, however, that didn't stop his imagination from running wild. He looked to check on her, and almost got swarmed.

This round, he only took out one shadowling.

If only Molly had been aware of poor Dylon’s discomfort…then she’d probably be a lot more distracted. Sadly, as it stood, this kind of thing was normal to Molly, and if anything, the shadowlings were more ‘tame’ than anything else she had come across so far…but that’s what happened when you were at Deus for two years. This time this wave was more successful than last, and Molly took out a few more.

It proved too diffilcult. The threat of real injury. The notion that these things could take him down in swarms, that he could be defeated, or worse. Injuries here could be real. It wasn't a video game, no matter how much he tried to convince himself it was. Feeble attacks one after the other as he tried to fend off the shadows and push forward. But he was pushed back. Nothing phased the little shadows.

Once more, he was overwhelmed by darkness. Terrifying, and painful darkness.

Molly was, at this moment, unaware that Dylon had fallen again. She tried not looking back, in hopes it'd help both of them out, so thus she missed that the trainee wasn't following her anymore. The trainee continued on, swinging her lance at the hoards of shadows.
