The great thing about winter break was that it allowed for Lepus to sneak out of the house on school nights to go patrolling. So far, she hadn't really seen or met anyone interesting, let alone made any progress in her quest to find Destiny City's most haunted places, but it didn't particularly deter her from going out, anyway. And besides- she had an even bigger quest, one more important than proving that ghosts were real.

She wanted to find another one of those talking cats, the ones with the stars on their foreheads. She'd met Pippin, who had awakened her, and she had met Thetis, but ultimately, Lepus wanted to find a cat who'd actually come home with her, to maybe have the occasional tea party or two... or maybe not, it didn't matter. The most important thing was that talking cats were awesome, and that unlike her plush rabbit collection, could actually talk back and carry on a conversation with her.

The only trouble was... how did she go about finding such a cat? Lepus doubted that they could be found in just about any old alleyway, for one, but she wasn't sure where to begin to look. She pondered doing one of those 'summoning rituals' she'd looked up once online, but reconsidered the idea after it occurred to her that her mother would probably revoke her internet privileges until the end of time if she found out.

Frowning, Lepus reached into the bag she had smuggled out of the house, taking out a pair of binoculars. She had brought a jacket as well, so she wasn't too cold- but she knew she couldn't stay out long, or else it would be discovered that she wasn't in bed like she was supposed to be. As she was uncertain as to from how far away this whole 'sensing power signatures' thing worked, Lepus had brought the binoculars in the hopes of maybe catching sight of a cat from afar.

This was such a complicated process, all for the sake of trying to befriend a cat to come home with her.

A sharp caterwauling sprang up down the street, the sound growing louder as the one making it streaked down the sidewalk. It was a silver white cat, fur puffed up in outrage, with... something on her head that looked decidedly un-cat-like. The cause of the cat's distress was soon revealed to be a dark brown dog that snapped at her tail, barking excitedly as it gave chase.

The pair zipped back and forth until they reached one of the trees that lined a front yard and the cat scrabbled up the trunk. The dog's barking turned frustrated as it jumped at the cat, but missed, scratching at the bark as it struggled to reach the lower branches. Perched on top of them, the silver cat hissed as she arched her back, scolding the dog from safety.

"Bad dog! Bad, NASTY dog..." She screeched, her lips pulled back from her pearly fangs. "Go away! GO AWAY! Stupid dog..."

It was lucky for the cat that there were no passerby today, thus no one to hear her shouting, but unlucky as well... there was no one to rescue her from her current predicament.

Lepus almost couldn't believe the scene she was seeing unfolding in front of her eyes. A cat- another of the star cats, darted across her field of vision, followed by... a dog? The talking cat was being chased by a dog?!

As Ash climbed up the tree, Lepus decided it was time to take action. Dropping her binoculars, the chibi senshi ran as fast as she could towards where the poor star cat was taking refuge in the tree from the barking dog, thankful for the speed boost being powered up gave her.

"Hey! Bad doggie, get away from her!" Lepus shouted, hoping to scare the dog away. She felt a little bad for yelling at the dog, but, well, she was more of a cat person anyways, and it just happened to be that there was a cat needing her help.

Getting down from the tree had been looking like a lost cause and her only option to wait out the snapping, snarling beast below her. How long would it take for it to get bored of waiting, and leave? Probably longer than she care for, but there was safety in the tree and danger on the ground.

Sudden, unexpected salvation came in the form of a blooming order signature and Ash's cursing faded as she watched a... chibi senshi, from the looks of it, rush to her defense. Green eyes wide, she listened to the chibi berate the dog and the lashing puff of her tail slowed.

The dog, for it's part, had the grace to be startled about attack from the rear. It was distracted enough that it darted back, forgetting about the cat for a few seconds in favor of the young girl in the top hat and bunny ears. Tail tucked between it's legs, it barked now equally at the girl as at the cat, weaving back and forth as it looked for a safe path to the tree and the prey it had been chasing.

"I don't think he's going to give up!" Ash called down to the young senshi, leaning over the side of her branch. "Maybe we should make a run for it? I think you're far more likely to outrun that fleabag than I am on my own."

Well, that hadn't worked, though it had been worth a try, maybe. The only problem now, of course, was that the dog was now barking at the two of them, and Lepus now had a new problem on her hands. Ash's observation that the dog probably wouldn't leave them alone made sense, and Lepus tried to think of a better idea.

Should she use her magic? It seemed like such a waste, and if the dog was already this excited, it probably wouldn't work.

"Okay, let's make a run for it!" she said, agreeing with the silver cat, "Jump down- I'll carry you!"

The silver guardian crouched in her tree, her small paws kneading the wood as she wiggled and considered both the dog and her destination. She judged the trajectory and distance carefully, and argued with herself right up until she launched herself from the tree.

There was a good measure of faith in that jump. Belief that, whomever this young girl was, she would keep her safe. She was a senshi, and if there was anyone in this world that Ash trusted above any other... it was those wonderful people gifted with magic.

The small body arced outwards and downwards and neatly into the arms of the waiting girl. There was nothing she could do about the weight that came down on those arms, but she was as graceful as she could manage, immediately going more or less limp to make the catch easier.

"Ah, thank you, Darling!" Ash called breezily. "I'm Ash. I think now would be a good time to run, hmm?"
