Suluksati curled up, resting her head on her forepaws, exhausted. She was tired from a long day of patrolling and all she wanted was a long, relaxing sleep. She shoved her face under her forepaws, snuggling into her own feathers as she sought soothing darkness.
The day had been an exhausting day of patrols. She'd even had to run from irate dragon hunters who wanted her feathery hide to place with their horrible gruesome spoils. They had been hunting Ysali, but they were a group far beyond what she could take. She had run with more than a few arrows on her tail. Fortunately, she was practiced in running like hell, and had managed to evade them, and she took pride in the fact that some of the Ysali pack had made it out alive.
Still, the hunters had been angry and persistent and it had been exhausting. She wouldn't have it any other way - exhaustion kept the nightmares of failure at bay.
Now, though, sleep would not come. Her muscles were tense, and she could not get them to relax. Every sound was clear and enervating, and she could feel every air current on her feathers. She just was not comfortable - it was one of those nights.
She gave up for a moment and, flopping on her side in frustration, stretched out under the night sky. Her fighting reflexes saved her as a strange and almost indescribable sound, quiet as a fallen twig, was all that announced the Borganah's attack. She flailed against the great spidery beast as it tried to deal her a grave blow. Her kicking kept it at bay until she could claw herself into an upright position. She did, then, as she had done all day. She ran, as fast as her feathered legs could carry her until she could get enough lift to take to the safety of the air. Obviously, she was not sleeping tonight.
