Lost DogNamed Barney. Very fluffy. Likes to bark. Reward!Noble Born stood in front of the sign with a carefully place concerned frown and tried to imagine what it must be like for that poor dog, lost out in the cold away from its family. Its owner must be horribly worried. But his gaze kept drifting away from he picture of the dog (with its tongue lolling out the side of its mouth and eyes alarmingly distant), to the words underneath reading '‘Reward!'. Money perhaps? Home-baked goodies? Of course, he told himself firmly, the greatest reward would be doing a kind act and bringing someone joy in finding their pet. But money would be nice too. At the very least it would help his reputation as being a good guy.

Noble Born was not the first enterprising colt to see the reward poster- er, lost dog poster- that day. Revenant just happened to think himself a rather noble sort, and noble sorts did public services like find dogs who were not where they should be. And possibly collect a reward.
“Noble? I don’t suppose you fancy yourself a dogcatcher?” It was a poor greeting to meet a fellow colt on, but Revenant was never really good at greetings. More of just showing up and launching into non-sequiturs.

Noble Born inclined his head politely towards Revenant. "I am certainly willing to try my best at the task," he replied. It probably be easier to track down the dog with two pairs of eyes, although it did occur to Noble that it would mean splitting the reward. "Where shall we look first?" If he'd had just a piece of the dogs hair he could have done a finding spell, but it looked as though they'd have to do things the old fashion way.

The translucent colt lifted his head, serenely gazing about the area. Just because he had no idea what he was doing, didn’t mean he couldn’t pretend like he did. And pretending is one of the things he did best, and right now this called for a little Sherlockian air.
“Well, since we don’t know the nature of the dog’s departure, we can assume he ran off for fun. So perhaps parks? Or somewhere else a dog would like to play?” Revenant’s acting faltered for a moment, the colt glancing over to Noble Born, “That sounds right, doesn’t it?”

"That sounds correct." Truth be told he'd never been anywhere near a real dog and didn't know the first thing about how they behaved (other than slobber and bark and be a nuisance), so Revenant's suggestion was as good as anything he could give. "There is a big park not far from here. We should start there." Expecting his companion to fall in alongside him, he started walking.

It was an entirely reasonable expectation; unfortunately Revenant was lost in his own little world for a moment too long. He dashed to catch up, pulling up alongside Noble Born and raising his head, trying to look very dignified and not like he had to scamper just to keep up.
The park was a great place to start. A very large place to start, especially for a pair of fouls like them.
“Are you able to fly? A higher vantage point would allow us to see much farther.”

Noble Born made a point of not taking any notice of Revenant's unfortunate scramble to catch up and continued to march along at a steady, professional sort of pace... until the the question made him falter slightly. "I am not the best at flying," he admitted, figuring there was some nobility in recognizing ones faults. "But I can try." He flexed his wings thoughtfully. There was always that small seed of doubt, that the stitched wings wouldn't hold.

Well that seemed a little funny, a pegasus who wasn’t good at flying. Revenant supposed he shouldn’t judge any though, he was alive and sometimes had difficulties being corporeal. Now that was silly.
“I am sure it would be fine if you cannot,” the colt hesitated a moment, then offered a shy smile, “I have faith in you, though.” After all, agreeing with one’s insecurities never helped to encourage. “Your effort would surely be appreciated by the poor pooch’s pensive owner.”

Noble Born looked over at Revenant in pleased surprise. The encouragement was oddly effective and if he was ever going to get over his fear and take to the skies, he might as well do it now. "If you have faith in me, then I will not fail." He gave his wings another flap. "Ah look, there it is, the park." As they turned the corner, their destination waited. The large area, with groves and even a pond, would be the perfect place for a dog to enjoy its freedom.

”Believing you can accomplish something is often the hardest part of the task, I’m sure you will excel.” Revenant should know, that was why most days he didn't do much at all besides sit in his room and write gloomy things. Having belief in himself was difficult when he never knew when he’d accidentally phase through something and end up in the basement or worse, in the underground network of the theme park’s facilities.
Revenant hung just a teensey bit closer as they approached the park- the grass was pretty tall and they were just little colts, after all. His hooves were assuredly going to get muddy as well.
“Shall we start at the park tables? The elevated surface would make a good launch platform,” The purple colt suggested, nodding towards the little cluster of tables and barbeque pits.

Noble Born paused at the entrance to the park, inspecting what lay before them and nodded. “That is a wonderful idea.” He wasn't worried by the grass or immensity of what lay before them, especially since he often spent a lot of time in the forest searching for ingredients, but as if he sensed his companions misgivings, he stood that little bit taller in an effort to be a comforting presence. He led them along a winding path to reach the tables, wings giving little flutters as he jumped onto the seat and then to the tabletop. From this vantage point he could see over the open space. There were a few others around; a couple of kids, some families out for a stroll and even a person playing catch with their own dog. Was it too much to hope they would spot the lost dog from here? “Do you see anything?”

The praise managed to pull a little smile from the somber phony, Revenant's little curly tail wiggling before he clamored up the bench and onto the tabletop. It was easier to pull himself up high when he had the support of another little colt, especially one that liked his ideas.
"No, I don't see much. Try flying a little higher?" He could see the other phonies milling about, just not the specific dog they were looking for. Except... well, he could kind of see something off back by the road, now that he looked harder. A little hoof lifted, pointing back.
"Try over there?" He could never see so well in bright light, but if what he was seeing was what he was actually seeing, then that was the dog they were looking for. On a leash, with his owner. Which would be silly, unless the posters they had seen were old.

So far Noble's back hooves hadn't left the table. He was holding himself upright, winds flapping to give himself height without ever lifting him into the air. But as Revenant suggested he go higher, he took a deep breath and did just that. He rose into the air, shoving down the flair of panic that always came when he thought away flying. Noble followed Revenant's gaze to the person and their dog, walking calmly along. His eyes narrowed, picking out the details. Well, darn. That definitely looked like the dog on the poster. It also appeared to be barking; the shrill sound reaching their position. "It seems that we won't be receiving a reward today," he lamented as he landed carefully and tucked his wings to his side. There was a moment of quiet contemplation before he added, "but I'm glad the dog isn't lost anymore."

"Oh bother," Revenant could rear up onto his back legs, but he still couldn't see the pair so well. He trusted Noble's agreement that indeed that had been the dog they were looking for. The little colt settled down, sitting on the table top and offering the other a shy smile.
"Yes, that is the important thing, isn't it? The dog with his owner. And you flew! I'd smartly bet you could have ascended to greater heights, as well." Revenant was slowly getting better about the whole 'focusing on the positives' thing.

"Perhaps I could have," Noble admitted, looking quite proud of himself. "Thank you Revenant. You have been a great support." He smiled and bowed low. Now that the task had been completed (although it had ended rather disappointingly), Noble had nothing else to occupy his time with and his stomach gave a little growl. "Would you like to accompany me to lunch? I'm starving."
