Azzo had been having trouble finding Aurora the prefect Christmas present this year, he'd been combing every inch of every section in the stores he knew she liked for something that spoke to him. Which was well, rather difficult and unfortunate because nothing seemed to spark his interest. He'd settled for Movie tickets to Disney's latest movie Frozen, some pretty white roses with the tips dyed blue and a box of chocolates since he couldn't find much at the very least he could beg for forgiveness when he walked past a kitty rescue place.
The young man paused and glanced towards the window. Face contorting as he considered going inside, remembering at one point he'd promised he'd get Aurora a pet, and what better type of pet to get than a cat! Azzo slipped inside still holding the chocolates and the roses as he looked around at the kitties. Trying to figure out one that Aurora might like. Most were colorful in the typical kitty fashion, orange tabby, grey tabby, calico, black, brown, Siamese. Though none of those really caught his attention.
"Can I help you sir?" An older lady, a volunteer most likely had come from the back when the Bell had rang and Azzo hadn't noticed her.
"Oh... uh, yes, yes you can. I'm thinking about getting a cat for my girlfriend as a Christmas present." He said as he still looked around, "Do you have any others? I was thinking maybe one that's longer haired or great for a house pet?"
Azzo wasn't really sure about cats, or how to maintain them, he knew about Merlin his German Shepard and that was about the most he knew, other than cats kind of rathered themselves to be left alone at times and that talking cats existed - which he still some days found a little on the silly side. Though he couldn't judge, it's not like he wasn't a 'super hero' himself so to speak.
"We have a few in the back, we got one in a while ago, and we had to bandage him up; and then there's some others as well mostly new cats. I can't say how many are ready for adoption though, usually the ones out front we adopt first - make sure that the others have no owners." The woman said as she seemed to think. "I think most of them are ready to be adopted though we just haven't had the room."
"Would you mind letting me see them?" He asked curiously as he peered towards the back and followed the lady when she lead him around the corner. A few cats had been an understatement - Azzo marveled at the ones receiving care. "Wow, I thought you said a few."
"Most of the ones back here aren't ready to go out to be adopted, there's mothers that have been abandoned and they've had kittens that need to stay with them a few more weeks, some that are clearly malnourished and mistreated, others voluntarily are given up and we have to evaluate them before they go out." The lady explained as she walked past a few of the kennels. "We do our best to keep them comfortable and give them the love they need, it's hard though. This one." She paused at a large black haired cat with white on his chest, "He's ready to go out, but he doesn't get along well with the other cats, we've been trying to figure out where to place him. We've been calling him Suits." She continued along afterwords to another, "White and Orange tabby, she was given up by a farmer, said the cat was being picked on by the other barn cats and couldn't hold her own but she was too sweet to not get her a home. We've been calling her Sherbert"
Again they moved on, "This one, I'm not sure but he appears to be a pure breed, maybe ragamuffin or ragdoll, I'm not sure. He goes limp when you hold him, long fur he doesn't seem to shed right now." She paused, "He had a cut on his forehead we cleaned up and bandaged I'm hoping it doesn't scar because he's too sweet for that - and the bandages should be ready to come off in a few days. We've been trying to find out if he's got an owner since however, no one has claimed him and with this sort of cat I'm pretty sure if someone had owned him, they'd claimed him by now especially since we've advertised him everywhere. We don't keep these breeds long if they're owned since they're so expensive." She explained, "I'm thinking his head's healed enough we can adopt him out if someone really wants him. . . "
Azzo was looking at the cat and staring, "He's prefect I'll take him!" He didn't even give the lady a chance to finish. "I'm sure Aurora will love making sure his forehead gets the attention it needs. . ." He was looking around the facility at the rest of the cats. "How much for adopting him? I'd love to be able to take him home today if possible."
The woman nodded and they moved back to the front to do paper work. Azzo frowned a little at the stack that appear to kill a tree but this was important to him, so he buckled in for the long haul and plus, he totally felt like Aurora deserved such a pretty cat.
The woman handed him paper after paper explaining what each was and finally they got to the fees and Azzo ended up staring at her for a bit, "Can you afford him?" She asked when she saw the startled look, "He does appear to be a pure breed after all."
"For a cat?! Dang he must be gold if that's the case." Azzo said with a shake of his head, "Does that include carrier, and all? What about a bow I don't have time to go buy a bow for him."
"Yes and the jewelry he was wearing when he came in - Seriously I can't believe no one claimed him."
"No- no I just can't believe that's the price of one cat." He paused, "Do you take plastic? I don't have that much cash on me." when he was assured they accepted debit he handed the lady his card and waited for her to finish and gather up the new addition to his small family. When she brought the cat out he had a nice big blue bow on and was in a rather nice cat carrier and his jewelry was in a plastic bag.
"Now you take good care of him, and if anything happens feel free to come back and we'll see if we can help or we'll recommend you a great vet for you to take him to!"
"Thank you so much." Azzo said as he took the kitty and the rest of his packages. "I appreciate your help and Merry Christmas."
