Oh she wasn't happy. She wasn't happy at all. They'd been playing little games, little notes sent back and forth by her rook and his fox, which had caused quite the look from Aelius on first visit. Little notes with how many sets she'd completed, hoping so dearly she'd be ahead of him, and always with a little insult to couple with. She'd called him so many names, called his work sub par, and just relished in every little bit of anger she held against him. And somewhere along the line, it became more affectionate than hateful. Hell, if Soibhan asked, she would refer to him as her friend. There were occasions she'd get worried if she didn't get a reply back quick enough, ready to grab her winter coat and make the trek off to his shop, but usually every single time that happened, she'd get a note back as soon as she was ready to head out the door. She'd of course, write a long one back cursing him for all sorts of things, but at the end, there'd be a little 'glad you're okay' or things of similar sentiment. She hadn't even batted an eye when he finally sent her a request, something of a necklace, and had sent a note back chiding him for 'asking the poor little woman in the forge' to make him something, before adding quickly to send her a sketch. She'd done it too, it was some of her best work, she thought. Every little piece had been done over at least once, she'd basically stopped all her other work to get every last little detail right. The chain was so delicate it looked like the slightest pull would break it, and as soon as she was satisfied she'd sent it off in a leather pouch. And then he'd had the nerve to send her coin. She'd sent it right back to him without a word, she'd had to send it back several times, in fact. And on that last time, she'd threatened him. 'You take this right now or I'll make sure you have to take a trip to the doctor.' she'd written. Thus, here she was, just waiting for him to show up, sitting very calmly facing her door, firepoker in hand. She wasn't taking payment for a gift.

Vexation always turned simple walks into nightmares. He wasn't quite sure how she had kept delivering his notes to the lady Rosalie without losing herself on the way, but somehow she always returned, with a response in the little pouch he'd tie around her neck. In the almost two months he'd had the little fox, she had grown like a weed. Where once she'd fit in his arms like a kitten, now she was twice as big as a tomcat and only getting bigger. Not for the first time he wondered what Soibhan had gotten him into. Now she kept running ahead, weaving between the legs of innocent bystanders, barely escaping a crushing death by carriage wheel, and even almost getting kicked by an irritated donkey when she went sniffing around the thing's feet. "Vex!" he yelled, ignoring the stares of those around him. Once, he would have cared about those stares. Now he just cared about his fox's apparent death wish. "Get back here, you silly creature!" But as usual, the fox was smarter than she looked, knowing where exactly they were going. She dashed ahead and planted her furry butt right in front of the door of lady Rosalie's smith, looking back at him with a wide, toothy fox grin, bushy tail wagging like a flag. Shaking his head, he joined her and knocked on the door before pushing it open, knowing that he'd be welcome during business hours without having to wait for a response. "Rosa, we have to talk--"

And she was waiting for him, Aelius standing behind her, and rook perched on her shoulder. She looked like she was a queen, or at least an important boss, surrounded by her subjects with firey eyes on this intruder. The firepoker was in one hand, like a scepter, her legs crossed as she eyed Desmond. Oh she wasn't happy. If her note had given him the slightest inkling, she was actually furious. And she could be damn scary when she wanted to. " Desmond." She replies, voice heavy with anger, though it's pointed and ready to cut. "I suppose you're here to apologize aren't you?" Even Aelius seems to hold a serious look in his eyes, looking at the other smith, the intruder in their kingdom of fire and steel. He's clearly in the wrong neighborhood if he's looking to just have a chat.

Desmond stopped at the threshold, visibly trying to swallow his sudden spike of fear. Vexation wriggled between his legs and burst into the smithy, running pell mell around the entire place, darting between Aelius' legs much as she did with Liadain. Though he'd been okay with Liadain staying behind(she hadn't wanted to interrupt her nap), now he wished his guardian was at his back, to help squelch some of the fire he felt coming off of Rosalie. "I...uh....Y-yes? Yes. I've...I've come to apologize....for something," he stammered, now quite sure what he was supposed to be apologizing for exactly. Was she really that upset about him wanting to pay for the necklace? It had been beautifully crafted, of that he hadn't been worried about. He'd managed to get some ideas out of Soibhan one night as she drank herself into a stupor, and she'd even drawn some designs for him. But it had been the tattoo on the front of her shoulder that she'd been most prideful of, and he'd decided to get a necklace made of it. Rosalie had done such a phenomenal job that, well, he'd wanted to repay her for it. Apparently, that had not been the right course of action. "Rosa, I--"

Aelius huffed at the fox, but wasn't about to take his eyes off Desmond. He was well aware his chosen wasn't pleased, and given the events that had happened thus far, he wasn't about to back down. It pleased him that they were having such an effect on the man, though really he felt a little sorry for it all. He wasn't the one who was mad, after all! "And what would that be, smith?" Oh he'd best know what he's apologizing for, she'll have his head otherwise. She'd made that as a gift, as a sign of respect. No matter how much they liked to call each other unsuitable names, or nitpick over each other's work, it was a gift. He was worthy of getting a freebie from her, she didn't care about money. Hell, she had enough from Soibhan alone to keep her going for a few months. Why would he dare try to repay her? She's keeping her eyes on his rather strongly, waiting for an appropriate response. Only then will she stand down, but for now, she's making it clear who's in the wrong, and it certainly isn't her.

"I-I wanted to...p-pay for the...the necklace." He said it, but winced as he did. For once he almost wished Liadain was at his back, but a small part of him didn't think his surly guardian would be any help. She tended to dislike women, and for some reason, didn't much fancy Rosalie. At all. The gray doe was more likely to simply turn around and leave than do anything else. Rosa's anger was almost palpable, even from all the way over here. He held up his hand to placate her. "Now, I know you don't want the coin. B-but, the gift er is supposed to pay for the gift. It's the gift ee that gets to enjoy the thing without cost. Your work is beautiful," he added, not even as a placation, but as a simple truth. "I like to give proper credit and payment for beautiful work."

"You will do no such thing." She tsks, weighing the metal in her hand before bringing it down in her opposite hand, as if she means to do harm with it. It's a warning that makes ever Aelius look the slightest bit sorry for a second, though he's quickly rigid again with a mental nudge from his chosen. Even if his doe had chosen to stand her ground, she wouldn't have even batted an eye at her. There were few things, or people, that could scare this smith. "You've paid with your hard work already." There's still a strength in her voice. "You asked, and you got what you wanted. I think it's fair already." She raises an eyebrow when he calls her work beautiful. He means it, and she can tell. At least he's come far from scoffing at her gender and actually respecting her power. "You've given enough credit with your words, smith. Payment isn't needed, I'm already getting a set of armor for my guardian thanks to you."

Sighing, he let his head fall back and stared at her sooty ceiling to gather his thoughts. But in the end, he knew that keeping on this current path wouldn't get him anywhere. If he'd learned anything about Rosalie Satre in the last few months, it was that she was more stubborn than a paddock full of mules, and just as liable to kick. "Fine," he said, rubbing his temples. "Speaking of the armor, I'm going to need Aelius to come to the shop so that I can test the fit of his rig, adjust straps, et cetera." A random burst of images bombarded him along with a feeling of intense irritation and he realized that Liadain had awoken and was coming to Rosa's. A sigh escaped him and he nudged the door back open so that she would be able to push it open herself. He'd changed the locks on his doors and adjusted the way they closed to accommodate his guardian whenever she wished to wander. Taking the opportunity, he sent her back an image of the rig in question, asking her to grab it for him. Whether she did it or not would be left entirely up to her. "Thank you, again..." he finally added, giving her a faint smile that actually reached the blue of his good eye.

There's an obvious change in temperament the moment he gives in. She almost immediately relaxes, all of the anger and tension gone in the blink of an eye. She can't help but grin, obviously prideful of her win against him, and crosses her arms, setting the poker aside after twirling it through her fingers, enjoying the power it gave her. At least there wouldn't be a need to haul him off to the doctor today. "Good to see you still have your common sense." She hums, moving her hands to rest on her hips as she beams at him in pride. "You know I wouldn't want to hurt you, you b*****d~." She cooes, teasingly punching him lightly in the shoulder. The mention of armor seems to get her attention fell enough, though she thinks over it for a while, looking to her own guardian. "Oh, so we get to have a visit? That'll be fun. Your place as much of a mess?" Her own forge is at least in order, though there's more soot than he remembers on previous occasions about. "It's been work non-stop, I haven't even had a chance to go out for a night on the town." Aelius seems to perk at the mention of the armor as well, though is busy shaking the tension out of his body in a shiver, muscles twitching from their tension. "Pah, it's nothing. It's not like I put that much work in to it..." In reality, if Desmond has seen enough of her work, he'll know it's the opposite. One look at her other commissions in her glass case will tell him enough of how she slaved over it.

He neglected to mention that his shop was quite a bit cleaner, as cleanliness had always been one of his more persnickety habits. Even if he worked the forge for 12 hours, he still took an hour of his personal time to clean everything up after a day of labor. "Don't work yourself to death," he said, snapping his fingers to get Vexation's attention. The fox pulled her head out of the crate she'd stuck it in and grinned at him before padding quickly to his side. "We're ahead enough that you can take a night for yourself." Not that he'd taken his own advice, but he'd been more inclined to lose himself in his work than sit before the fire and contemplate all the things he didn't much want to think about. Like Soibhan. The door swung upon as Liadain bodily pushed it aside, stepping into Rosa's shop as if she were stepping into a brothel(of which she did not like). There was no armor with her and he sighed, shooting her an irritated thought that she squashed with a barrage of images that basically translated into her telling him to sod off because she's not a pack mule. "Looks like you will have to come for a visit."

"I've already been taking a few nights off, but I wasn't sure how far along you were." She frowns, tilting her head for a moment, "Looks like I get more time, doesn't it? Because baby I'm done." She's so proud of this, grinning wildly. "Soibhan should be satisfied, I hope. Just need to get everyone in so they're all weighted to everyone's liking. Raj's are long done, so I suppose that leaves you n' Soi, n' anyone else." She watches the doe step in with a sigh, noting the lack of armor as well. Well. Off to Des' shop at some point it was. Maybe they could make an evening of it. Or lunch. Whichever. "Been meaning to see how your place is anyway." She shrugs, grinning a little more. "Can make a day out of it. I'll bring by a meal when I do." Plus then she'd maybe, just maybe, get to see him work. And make comments about how he hits like a child or something, she'll have to think on it.

Liadain headbutts her chosen in the back, hard enough to send him stumbling a step or two forward. His scowl is fierce indeed but he merely holds his ground and ignores the petulant doe's attempt at attitude. "I'll never turn down a chance at a meal made by someone other than me." Why? Because he was a terrible cook, though somehow Soibhan loved the meals he made for her. Not for the first time, he wondered why. "I'll not be tolerating any abuse, however," he added, giving Rosa a knowing look, though a smile curled the corner of her mouth. "At the least, I'll give as good as I get." His doe snorted disdainfully, but then she turned her head, peering back the way she'd come. The door was still partially open, letting in a slight chill that was mostly banished by the warmth of the forge. Desmond continued, "When are you going to come train with us, by the way? I've not seen you in the training yard yet."

"Never said I'd be cooking it, now did I?" What was it about blacksmiths that didn't exactly procure the best cooking skills? One would think those who work with fire all day would know better, but somehow everything she made turned out a little...crispier than intended. She didn't mind none, not when she was accustomed to the taste of ashes and burnt embers besides, and though she was sure something from one of the shops would do the two of them well enough. "I'd be worried if you didn't! Can't always just let women push you about, now can you?" Her words are punctuated with a laugh, though surely she's referring to his own guardian, the lovely grey lady who's just headbutted him. "It seems she's not going to take any either, though I would hope not given she's yours." Aelius gives a huff to this, at least he doesn't push his chosen around! He knows damn better to not, that he'll end up getting hell if he even tries. After all, the two of them get along rather well! The mention of training draws a surprised look on her face, as if she hasn't considered it quite yet, though is quickly covered up with a slightly guilty grin. "When I'm not swamped with work." Given the way her own shop front is a mess, work has been keeping her rather busy these past few days. "I still haven't made myself my own weapons yet. Had to save the best for last, right? But as soon as I finish those, you can bet I'm planning on it. I know I'm running a bit behind everyone else, though I certainly wouldn't say no if I were to learn from someone like yourself." Was that a bit of respect? Nah, couldn't be.
