It may not have been the most pleasant of places to explore, but Sailor Canopus had grown curious about mirror hopping, and this time, her travels led her to an old ballpark, one that was abandoned and left to rot among the outskirts of the city. Slipping in through the mirrors in the bathroom, Canopus made her way onto the field, looking at the trash and dead splotches of grass that tarnished the property's appeal with a sigh. She could only wonder if it was abandoned simply due to a crumbling economy, or if the war that ravaged the city from the shadows had a hand in its demise.

It was a depressing thought, one that she was oblivious about for such a long time and only now had become aware of the problem. And it wasn't because she was sheltered in the dormitories of the church- this wasn't the dark ages or the church being set in such old traditions that radios and televisions weren't allowed. She simply had not paid it too much mind, and now, she regretted it. Had she been more aware of this war and the seemingly impending tyranny of the White Moon, maybe she could have made a difference. Maybe she could have helped save this ball park from being abandoned, if it was a direct crossfire between the White Moon and the Negaverse.

No, all she could do now was clean up the mess, and without hesitation, Canopus pulled one of the overturned trash bins up, preparing to clean this park, one piece of trash at a time. Her quest to clean the park came to an abrupt halt, however, when an animal gave a screech and rushed at the Dark Mirror Senshi, and she was ashamed to admit that her nerves were not as steel as she once thought them to be, as she gave a scream and immediately fled. Was it a feral cat? A dog? Maybe even a raccoon? Whatever it was, Canopus kept running, unaware that her screams could have attracted attention from late night strollers. "Ahhh, don't hurt me please!"

I hope this is an okay start. :l

Chariklo had intended to take it easy tonight. Wander the park, maybe meet some new people or have run-ins with those she already knew. Whatever, it was supposed to have been as relaxing as things got when one was a member of the Dark Mirror Court. Especially a Dark Mirror who was going behind her friend's back trying to whip the newbies into shape.

She was going to have to 'fess up to Leto at some point. But she kept putting it off, wanting her babies to be the living proof that she knew what she was doing. And that she was doing it all for the good of the Court.

She was pulled from her musings by the sensation of a Dark Mirror aura racing in her direction. And it was an aura that didn't feel familiar in the least. Curious, she sped up her own steps, intending to meet the mystery person halfway. And within moments, she could hear the racing footsteps and screams.

Bristling at the thought of someone hurting one of her family, Chariklo yelled back, "Hold on! I'll punch whoever's hurting you in the goddamned throat! I'm comin'!"

So much for relaxing.

So terrified in her flight that Canopus never once felt the other senshi's presence until she was literally upon her, and she did nothing to hide her surprise as she ran in the direction of the Chaos aura. She should have started questioning her impeccable luck in having only run into members of her own court by this point, but whatever was chasing her was still hot on her heels and she wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth for now.

She almost ran into her rescuer but she managed to jump to the left to avoid a collision, and without once looking at her savior or her pursuer, she hid behind Chariklo, trying not to cling onto her though making it very clear that she was using her for protection. It was shameful, really, to allow a teammate to act as her shield, but this one felt stronger than her and her threat and the confidence she held in that voice was enough for her to feel safe.

Finally, with the other Mirror senshi in front of her, she looked at her assailant, seeing a mangy old cat whose chase came to an abrupt end and it stood its ground, back arched and fur on end at the sight of both senshi. It gave a hiss and fled, as if knowing not to mess with the one with the piercings and tattoos that decorated her body. Now Canopus felt like a fool, and she looked to Chariklo, tugging at her own braided ponytail before mutteringly meekly, "I'm… I'm sorry…"

Though better at avoiding collisions than most, Chariklo knew that had the strange brunette not jumped to the side, they would have fallen in a tangle of limbs. And while not entirely adverse to the idea, it would have hardly been professional since she was trying to save a new baby.

The tall blonde was less sure about what she'd gotten herself into the moment she became a meat shield. Still. It was her job to protect the new Dark Mirrors from the dangers that threatened. Even if said danger turned out to be nothing more than a cranky alley-cat.

Arching an eyebrow and trying valiantly to keep from bursting into whoops of laughter, Chariklo turned and eyed the other girl for a moment, taking in the meekness and ponytail tugging. Though she was convinced that her ribs were going to crack from having to hold in her amusement, she managed to keep a cool and collected facade up.

"Let's hold up on the apologies for now, mmkay? There's no harm done and frankly, that old furball did me a favor since I managed to run into you. How long have you been one of us?"

If this girl was jumpy enough to flee from an old cat like it was a tiger... Chariklo could feel a headache coming on. She also had a feeling that li'l missy here was about to be the recipient of some tough love.

Canopus could have sworn that whatever was chasing her felt bigger when it was hot on her heels, and Chariklo's attempts to stop herself from laughing only added to the girl's shame, casting her dark violet eyes down and scuffling her feet, like a horse would when it felt uncomfortable with its surroundings. When Chariklo addressed her, she did feel a little better about herself, just with the other senshi being there and not openly laughing at just how silly she looked. She answered promptly, "Not too long ago. A week, two weeks, maybe? Prince Remarque woke me one night and saved me from hypothermia and gave me a cause, as well as warmth."

Now that there was no immediate menace about, it gave Canopus a chance to look at her teammate, really look at her, and she did her absolute best to hold any judgmental comments to herself, though it was clear that she was observing her appearance. It wasn't often that she got to see someone so unique and expressive in their appearance, though there were several students that managed to get away with it at St. Mag's. What really caught her attention were the piercings and the tattoos, and that was something that she couldn't stop herself from commenting on, and her voice was soft, though the adoration that laced her tone was clear to hear. "Um, if you don't mind me saying, your tattoos are very nice. I can't see all of them, but they're so bright and expressive…"

Then, it dawned on her that it might have been considered rude to stare, and once again, she found herself apologizing to her ally. "I'm sorry, I've been so rude. My name is Canopus. Thank you for saving me…?"

Prince Remarque? If possible, Chariklo's eyebrows would have vanished into her hairline at that one. Since when was Remarque a Prince? Quickly, she made a mental note to track Leto down as soon as possible to inquire. But first, and more importantly, she really did have a newbie on her hands.

"Only a couple weeks, huh? Didn't His Princeness take any time to explain anything to you? And you're not bein' rude."

At this, Chariklo had to allow a trickle of laughter to escape as she grinned cheerfully at Canopus.

"Honey, look at me," she continued. "This fuku was made to be stared at. And the tats only add to it. Thanks by the way, I got a good artist for 'em. And you're welcome. My handle's Chariklo and I would be the Super senshi of Seagulls."

Holding out her hand, Chariklo decided that in the case of this poor, meek little thing, it was probably bettr to build her up towards a fight unless she wanted to send the kid off screaming into the night.

Canopus had immediately seen Chariklo's surprise, but she didn't think to comment on it. Apparently, news of Prince Remarque had not reached to all members of their court, and while she was certain that there was a perfectly good reason for this, she couldn't help but feel a little concerned. If Chariklo did not think of Remarque to be a prince, then perhaps that meant that he was not a prince for long? How many others did not know? She would have to address this with him the next time she saw him...

"He informed me of the danger that the White Moon Court and the Knights pose upon Destiny City and Earth," Canopus said, still trying not to get lost in Chariklo's beautiful tattoos nor her own confused thoughts as she addressed her. "Some can be talked to. Some can even be saved. But he also warned me that some would hurt me, before I ever had the chance to speak... and that I should defend myself in whatever way I could."

She didn't mention that she had yet to use her magic. She knew how to summon it, but she never inflicted it upon another... nor was she sure she could. Even if it meant to save her life, could she bring herself to hurt another? She didn't want to think about it.

However, Chariklo's chuckles did wonders in soothing her nerves, and she could not help but smile when Chariklo smiled. Though sheltered within the dormitories, Canopus always admired the beauty of tattoos and the courage of others to want to use their own skin as a canvas. She wasn't sure if she could ever manage to do such a thing, but it was nice to be given permission to look. Maybe once day, she could see all of them and ask the origin for every last detail, to see how much of Chariklo's life could be told without a single word, only shapes and colors. It was easy to get lost in them, but still, she could not miss her name, and Canopus gladly accepted the hand that was offered to her as she gave it a shake.

"And I'm Canopus, senshi of Longevity," Canopus said with a smile. "I'm happy to meet you, Chariklo. You were quick to come to my rescue... you must be a good fighter then?"

Okay, so still pretty clueless, but not hopelessly so. Chariklo could work with this.

"Yeah, pretty good," she answered matter of factly. After all, why bother acting all puffed up or humble when she knew she was a damn good fighter? She was what she was and acting otherwise was stupid.

"Nice to meet you too, Canopus," she answered instead. "So, Longevity, huh? How on earth does that work?"

Sure, she knew what it was, but how it worked as senshi magic was something else entirely.

Canopus's smile remained strong as Chariklo confirmed her observation. It was good to know that there were good fighters among their court, though it worried her in the manner that it meant that their enemy, the White Moon Court, were active in fighting them to warrant such a need. It scared her a little, but it wasn't anything that she found herself regretting. Not when she took Remarque's hand, and certainly not now! "I've never really fought anyone before- I'd get the sisters to break up a fight when they broke out at school, but I suppose we can't just do that now?"

Then Chariklo asked her about her sphere, and she hummed to herself in thought. It was a topic that Canopus constantly pondered about herself on her free time, and unable to bring herself to lie to her new friend, she answered as truthfully as possible, casting her gaze downwards as though a little ashamed to admit to this. "I'm... not sure, actually. Longevity is such an abstract thing to be the senshi of and I've actually never used my attack yet. Maybe if I did, I'd know?"

Which brought her back into the topic of fighting, and she hated to admit that she might have sounded a little too eager, even in her own ears, as she address Chariklo. "Um... do you think you can give me some helpful hints on fighting? I've never raised a hand against another before, and I know I can't always run from a situation, so... it'd be prudent for me to learn to fight, right? Could you help me?"

Well, at least Canopus was willing and able to admit that she needed help. With an understanding and sympathetic smile, Chariklo nodded.

"Well, you're going to learn to fight someone right now. Me. I can't promise to go easy on you, but I won't be a monster, if that helps."

Frankly, if Chariklo had her way, Canopus would leave this lesson with some skills that could be honed with further practice.

There was a sharp sting of fear that lingered in Canopus’ chest when Chariklo said that she would be teaching her how to fight, and it only increased when she said she wasn’t going to go easy on her. She said something about a monster but admittedly Canopus wasn’t really paying attention. All she could manage to do was nod softly, before forcing the words out of her mouth, hoping and praying that she didn’t croak too loudly. “Um, I think it does. Please, do whatever you need to do to prepare me. Don’t go easy on me…”

She felt silly for asking that when Chariklo made it painfully clear mere moments ago that she wouldn’t. She closed her mouth and tried not to talk anymore, fearing that she’d only be rambling at this point, and without further ado, she rose her hands and curled them into fists. They felt small and tiny, and her knees were a little bit shaky, but she had to take comfort knowing that the person she was about to attack was one of her own.

Chariklo wouldn’t really hurt her too badly… would she?

“I’m… I’m ready, whenever you are.”

Making note of how Canopus seemed to shrink into herself, Chariklo had to wonder if maybe she might want to tone down on the whole barbarian appearance a smidge.

"Kid," she began gently. "I'm not a monster, okay. It doesn't do either of us any good if I wipe the ground with your a**. I'm not here to break you. I'm not a damned sadist, okay?"

She did neglect to mention that Canopus would be sporting some bruising, but under the circumstances, it was probably a wise omission.

"Now," she continued in a much crisper tone of voice. "Don't just hold your fists up and out like that. Especially if you've never fought before. All you're doing is giving me a lever to pull you down or flip you over. Here, can you move like I do?"

Suiting actions to words, Chariklo stood beside Canopus and got into a defensive position, legs and feet slightly apart and ready for running or kicking, arms up to protect her gut and weight mostly balanced so that her center of gravity wasn't off kilter.

She suspected it was Chariklo's way of helping ease the tension, but it only seemed to make the new Mirror senshi painfully aware of her own fears and inadequacies, and that made her extremely quick to apologize. "I'm sorry, I know you're not a monster and that you'd never really hurt me. Not on purpose anyway! I didn't mean to imply that you were..."

Oddly enough, it was somewhat comforting, in a way, that Chariklo said these things about herself. It let Canopus know that though she was confident, strong and experienced, it didn't seem to go to her head so much that she was looking for a chance to lose herself in showing off, especially at the expense of hurting others. That said a lot about someone's character, and it was definitely comforting to know that she wouldn't be walking out of this with too many bruises. It wasn't as if Chariklo enjoyed hurting others, right?

There wasn't much time to sit around and analyze Chariklo's behavior as the crispness of her voice garnered her attention, and Canopus found herself looking at her own fists and lowering them, failing to hide her ashamed expression as Chariklo called her out. Yet, before she could feel too hurt or offended by it, her fellow senshi was quick to explain why, as well as came to stand by her side to demonstrate the proper stance. She did her best to mimic it, looking down at Chariklo's feet and then her own, and when she felt she had mimicked the stance well enough, she asked. "Like this? Am I doing it right?"

Chariko's eyes narrowed slightly as she moved to circle Canopus, chunnering softly under her breath as she gave the other girl little nudges to move her arms and legs. Finally satisfied with what she saw, the taller senshi gave a nod.

"You'll do. Until you get good enough to do this in your sleep, always keep a little part of your brain focused on how you move and how it feels to do different things. Sounds goofy, but it does help. Now..."

Apologizing mentally, Chariklo took a half-step backwards before rushing Canopus, fists flying out in seemingly random punches and jabs. She'd pull any that got too close to the girl's face, but she had to see how Canopus defended herself. And it was easier to attack when she wasn't expecting it in order to find out.

Canopus was never opposed to outward stimuli or others touching her, and now was no different. She kept at it, even when Chariklo circled her and gave her arms and legs a few nudges, and it was well worth it when she seemed to have gotten her approval. It might not have been much, but every little bit helped, right?

“It… it doesn’t sound goofy at all. Not so long as it works…” Canopus said, trying to take in all that Chariklo was teaching her and never once questioning her method or logic. She had been in much more fights than her, so surely she knew what she was talking about! Suddenly, Chariklo came at her, fists drawn and punching, and it took much of Canopus’ willpower not to just scream and flinch. She let out a yelp and tried to dodge as best as she could, reminding herself that it was only a training session and that Chariklo wasn’t going to really hurt her.

One of the blows to her arm made her cry out and Canopus sought to fight back, trying to maintain her pose and throwing a punch of her own. She didn’t take the time to aim and probably looked pathetic in doing so, but she couldn’t just curl into a ball and hope for the best. The enemy wouldn’t allow for that, and neither would Chariklo… “Ah!”
