Kiyelt had just passed the snowball fight, he thought he was alone. How wrong he was. He paused for a bit to rub his poor feet. He had been walking for a while. His skim prickled as it was still chilly, he was covered in goose bumps but it wasn't really that cold here. He began to walk again but paused, he sensed someone was near now. Kiyelt peeked around the tree and saw someone, someone who wasn't blue, so not of the ice tribe. Well here was an opportunity to gather a story for his parents. He coughed quietly but stayed hidden behind the tree in case the other was hostile.

Hostility was probably the furthest thing from Nuawahn's mind as he merrily approached the border between Zena and Sauti. Well, there were some things that Nua never thought about.
But he did think about people, and fluffy things, and the potential new friends that existed in the tundra beyond the mountains. Nuawahn had never been to Zena, and sine he had been just about everywhere else in Tendaji in his young life, he figured he might as well take a look. He heard there was a city there. He had seen villages, but never a city. Apparently, they were large, permanent villages with walls of stone and as big as several villages put together!
Nuawahn wanted to see that very much! And tell all of his friends about it!

He skipped along the worn path, not minding the chill of the higher peaks. He would probably need a coat later, but for now his clothing worked out fine. It was a good day, and he was in a good mood - not that bad moods were a common thing for him.

He even whistled a cheery tune, his curls and unusually colored trinkets jingling as he moved.

La'amu, the dark red positively ancient (or venerable) capramel, followed her Nuawahn sedately. She didn't mind his whistling- she actually liked it, though the beast would never admit it. She did wish he would slow down and let her old bones catch up, and she was looking forwards to the cold of Zena about as much as she had looked forward to the mucky heat of Jahuar or the annoying sands of the Tale. Which was not at all. She had been to Zena, long ago when youth was still hers. Her memory was limited by age and by being a capramel, but she knew she hadn't liked the icelands much. Still, she went where her notcalf went. She huffed. Someone had to keep him out of trouble.

Then she stopped. Her huffing had been incidental, but she had caught a scent. There was an earthling nearby. Very nearby. She looked at the general area where Kiyelt hid, her rheumy and cataract-spotted (but still stern) eyes glaring suspiciously at what she could not see. She harrumphed, and shook her head. She didn't like sneaky things. She moved a little faster to catch up with her notcalf.

Kiyelt peeked around the tree one of his eyebrows trying to climb up into his hair. This person was definately not worried about safety from others, that meant that either he was absolutely harmless or more dangerous then he looked. Like he doesn't have a care in the world, he thought. His brows furrowed as the ancient campramel rounded the corner too. She was a stately old lady. Kiyelt smiled. The lad must not be that bad if he had such distinguished company. And she was smart too, she had so easily found him out. He stepped out from behind the tree hoping neither was going to pummel him. "Hey there," he said to the male, then bowed low to the lady. 'I'm sorry if I startled you, its my first time out from Zena. And I'm afraid I am more edgy then not."

Kiyelt squinted at the man, hmm a wind, this made sense being so close to Zena. And at least he would have a quick start on his task. Even he had to admit that this fellow at least looked cheerful and friendly and that was more then he could say for some of his ice friends and even himself some days..so that was a good trait right? Why did his parents have to make this so hard.

Nuawahn's face had been cheerful before, but it positively lit up as the man stepped out from behind the tree. "Oh hi!" Said Nuawahn, waving enthusiastically. Nuawahn had no fear of strangers - they were just friends you hadn't met yet! "This is my first time to Zena! We're symmetrical!" he said, laughing, "I'm Nuawahn, and this is La'amu!" he said, gesturing to the capramel, "Who're you?"

La'amu regarded the guy with slightly less grump than usual. He had revealed himself, he had been respectful, and he was friendly. Those were three marks in his favor. He might not be dangerous. Might. She gave him a little headbow in return.

Kiyelt smiled at both of them. Okay okay so they were not bad, the man was absolutely infectious with that grin of his. Kiyelt tried not to cross his eyes.

"I am Kiyelt, of the ice tribe, a pleasure to meet you Nuawahn, what brings you out this way? I am here because my parents want me to meet the other peoples you are my first as it turns out." He nodded and looked at his traveling companion. "You must be a good guy, if you have her looking after you, she is a gorgeous one." Kiyelt was more relaxed around this boy then he ever thought he could be, but the lad just about shone with happiness, Kiyelt bet that he didn't have a mean bone in his body, and so he could hold nothing against someone with such a sunshiney personality. He never thought his parents plan would work out so fast, he could prove nothing with this kid.

He pulled out a bit of meat and tuber, "Care for some lunch Nuawahn? I'm starving."

"Really?!" said Nuawahn, "So... you're on a quest?" he said, intrigued. From his parents? What an interesting quest! To meet the other peoples! His body language, as he sat down and brought out some food of his own. Lunch was so much more fun when shared, and he offered half of a meat bun - purchased previously - to his new friend. What did he mean by other peoples, though?
"You mean... Like shifters? And alkidikes?" he said, intrigued?

"Oh, me? I've never been to Zena!" said Nuawahn, petting Amma's head as she sat next to him, clearly glad for the rest. Her old bones ached from her boy's constant travels. "I've been most everywhere else, so I figured that I should try there!" he grinned, eating the other half, "Just to see it!"

"Yes, exatcly, a member of each gender to give an example of the different cultures and ideals and what not, this means of course I will have to go to the places they come from as well and see what their homes are like."

Kiyelt's eyes misted over and he accepted the meat bun, it was so delicious. Fresh, he could tell. "Zena is a harsh but beautiful land, she commands respect and recieves the love of those who can appreciate her, usually those who where the most clothes," he laughed. "It gets rather cold sometimes."

He brightened. "So you have been to Jahaur before? Tell me have you seen a Radaku? I hear they are fierce and I am so interested in seeing one." Excitement permeated his voice, which for the sarcastic reserved iceling was uncommon.

His stomach had stopped growling and was appeased at this offer of food. Kiyelt pulled out some sweet roots he had saved from the cellers in Zena and passed a pile of the fragrant plants to Nua. He chewed contentedly.

"Oh wow!" said Nuawahn, looking at the other boy in awe. That was a really big adventure! "That sounds like so much fun!" he said, delighted at the idea, "All those people! From everywhere!" Maybe he should try something like that! He could make friends from everywhere. Or maybe just all the friends! Wouldn't that be excellent?!

"Yep! I've been to Jahuar! I wandered from there to the Tale for a really long time!" he said, accepting a sweet root and offering it to the Capramel, who ate it daintily... well, as daintily as a capramel can eat, anyway. "I've seen all sorts of things! Alkidikes, Aldabuks, Witu- they're sort of like smaller raptri - Poscuta..." his remarkably sparking eyes grew briefly distant with the memory.

"People keep Radaku as pets, you know! They're very big and long..." he demonstrated, "With short fur in pretty colors... and big teeth!" he mimed teeth with his hands, "And they're tall too! Oh, and they have two horns... he finished by miming the horns. "and they glow! But everything glows in Jahuar..."

He frowned suddenly. "Wait... you need to find a member of each gender? Like... a boy and a girl?"

"I'm really just starting out so I'm not sure how much fun I will have, however if all the people I meet are as sweet as you, I will no doubt have the time of my life." Kiyelt said.

"I think Poscuta sound cute, what were the alkidikes like?" He was really excited to see what they were like, an all female tribe of tall, skilled warriors would be a sight to see for sure.

"Really the Radaku are that big? Well I guess if people ride them, they sound wonderful, I think I would like to have one one day, what about you? Oh, your capramel might not think much of such ferocious company. Do the people in Jahaur glow too?"

"Yes like a boy and a girl, for the alkidikes I will have to find a male with a bit of alkidike blood in him to fully understand them."

Being exposed to this bubbly prentice was giving him something precious, optimism. Go figure. He wondered what class the wind would be choosing, he could see perhaps a bowman or something of the like, he didn't look like someone who would wield a hammer or shield but looks apparently were not everything. "So I want to be a Beast Master eventually, what are you aiming for Nua? Archer?"

This ice guy was so nice! Nuawahn grinned. "I'm sweet?" he said, surprised and pleased. If this was sweet, then he liked being sweet, "Thanks!" he said. It was kinda funny though! Nuawahn didn't like overly sweet things.

"Oh yeah! Radaku are huge!" said Nuawahn, "You should have one! I hear they're really smart! You can teach them tricks and train them to do all sorts of things." he gave La'amu a pat on the head. "But no, she wouldn't like them. Didn't like them." he thought about it. He didn't dislike Radaku, but they were big and toothy and just not his thing. He was happy with his Amma.
"And shes smart too. But you can't train her!" he giggled, "Amma does her own thing!" he gave her a snuggle. She tolerated it. They'd been together for so long, longer than he could remember. She'd always been there.
"Hmm, no, the people in Jahuar don't glow..." he said, suddenly wishing they did because that would have been really neat! "... But the shifters change color when day turns to night - their skin and their eyes - and its really pretty! Their skin turns from black to white, and their eyes change from silver to blue!" He thought for a moment, "And from night to day as well, too. 'cept, the opposite." he clarified. He'd played with a few shifters and it had been so fun to watch them shift colors! He liked his skin, but how awesome would it have been to have skin - or eyes - that shifted. "Thats why they call them shifters!" he said, proud to relay it, "The only thing that doesn't shift on them is their crystals! Always a pretty shade of blue. Like the sky." he paused to chew his food, calling back the memories of his not too distant youth in the jungle.
"Alkidikes are green, and very very tall! Like... Whos the tallest person you know?"

"I do want one, but a sailscale first for practice you know, start with smaller teeth." He adored toothy things, in all shapes and sizes, the more predatorial looking the better. Hence the interest in Radaku, the most fangy. "They change color? Cool, I mean the camoflage would be awesome, except it seems to me they are changing in a way that they would be least blended in at that time. Odd."

"Hmm, the tallest person I know would have to be my father, my mother whines cause he holds things out of her reach and tickles her at the same time."

He sighed happily, now full. This was the life, good friend, good food, good day.

Camouflage? Nuawahn didn't know about that. "Well, maybe theres another reason for it! Someone told me it had to do with the moon. he shrugged. He'd love to keep talking about Shifter shifting but he was still on the Alkidike tangent.
"Okay, so your dad. Well, I bet an Alkidike is taller than him!" he said, smiling mischeviously, "They can reach things way up high... like me!" he said, gleefully segueing into a story.

"Once, when I was there, I was playing with this friend of mine..." he couldn't remember her name now. "And we were in the trees. She was jumping from branch to branch, but I couldn't do it very well. I tried to follow her anyway. I got stuck on this branch, really high up off the ground. She got her Ma and her Ma reached right up and helped me down! " he nodded at his 'proof'. "They are very tall." he reasserted, "And thats not even counting their antennae!"

Kiyelt got a worried look on his face. "They sound huge," his eyes were bugged out a bit, and to think, he had to meet one to fulfill his quest! Hopefully she was more benign then not and didn't squash him like a bug for being an ungrateful insect. Not everyone would be as nice as Nua surely. He shivered a bit despite it being warmer then normal out.

"The moon? What would the moon have to do with color change? Sounds like an old fisherman's tail to me, I will most definitely get to the bottom of that when I'm in Jahaur."

Nuawahn grinned. "Yep! They are!" he said, delighted at the reaction. Nuawahn loved to wow people. But Kiyelt seemed upset, suddenly. Nuawahn wondered why. Was it something he said? Nuawahn knew it wasn't him specifically - he was well aware of how charming he was.

"Maybe! I mean, they change colors even when the moon's not out." said Nuwahn thoughtfully, watching Kiyelt's face, almost puzzled. "You should do that and let me know!" he paused for a moment, quiet. Yes. Kiyelt was still upset. He could tell by the preoccupied creases in his forehead and the look in his eyes. Very nice eyes, too - bright and yellow.

"Kiyelt? Whats the matter?" he asked, his face changing to an expression of honest concern. Why was his friend upset? Was he tired or... or was it the food? No, because Nuawahn felt fine and he had been sharing food, so if it was the food, he'd have gotten it too.
"Are you feeling okay?"

"Well its just that Alkidike's sound intimidating and I kind of have to meet one. I'm worried what if I offend her somehow and she smushes me into the dirt?"
He scratched his head. "What should I do, I mean my Mom knew some and she liked them but I myself have never seen one." He shuddered.

What was he to do? Stay out here forever or face his fear. He didn't even know what one could do and was already chickening out.
