Smiling brightly, Orah handed the woman her change with her left hand and expressed a hope she would come back. The lady thanked her as she gathered up her bouquet and headed for the door, missing the wince as the teen behind the counter sagged a little and wiggled the fingers in her right hand cast. Thank the gods that was the last customer for the moment... it gave the young girl a moment to shift back onto the stool she had stashed behind the counter and relax.

A slender brown arm wrapped around her chest, wondering when the pain from the bruises would finally go away. Asprin only did so much, but she couldn't afford to take a break. Matthew was still so young, too young to work so much at the shop, and her father couldn't do everything by himself... she filled a very important role in her family and it was killing her that her injuries hampered her so much.

She'd finally broken down after a single day of attempting to work through the pain and had called her friends for help. Bjorn had been an obvious choice for today with all the inventory sitting in the back. Hopefully it wasn't too odd for him to get a random call asking for help... he'd seemed happy enough to come and lend a hand. He'd been so nice the last time they'd met, helping her carry her groceries home. She was hopeful he'd be just as happy to move big bags of soil and ceramic pots, though she planned to reward him with a lot more than a turkey sandwhich this time. Working the shop with her was a lot bigger favor than just carrying a few things.

Hearing the bell above the door ring, Orah straightened up with a smile plastered over her face, offering up a cheerful welcome to the customer who had come in. Time to get back to work and pretend she didn't ache all over.

Björn couldn't have been happier, in a way, to have gotten the call from Orah. Their meeting reminded him in a far-off way of his early, circumstantial friendships when he'd first come to Destiny City, and he'd worried it may turn out the same with life just being too busy to remember the brief acquaintance. He wasn't pleased to hear that the small, pretty thing he'd run into was ailing and in need of help, but he was more than glad to have gotten a call to help out.

As it was, it wasn't another customer, but a very, very large and optimistic strongman that carefully made his way to the counter of the little shop. "Hallo, Orah"

He called the greeting out over the plants. He'd worn his close-sculpted Under Armor training clothes, hoping that avoiding anything baggy would help him from inadvertently catching on things and pulling shelves over or other disasters. "I hope I am not too late? My hands are yours for the day, as promised. "

The large, smiling blonde was not what she had been expecting, but Orah's smile eased into something more real as her shoulders sagged.

"Bjorn! I'm so glad you came. No, no, you're right on time." She said as she came around the counter in her long sweater with the buttons up the front. That and the leggings had been the easiest to get on this morning over her cast, especially with her sore ribs. Coming across the store, she reached up to give him a hug.

"I know you probably have tons of more important stuff you could be doing, but I really appreciate the help. I'd feel bad making my family pick up the slack, but moving stuff around in here is really hard with the cast and all." Orah said as she lifted her right hand to show him the palm to elbow cast bracing her wrist, her slender fingers wiggling from the top of it. "All I really need today is to get the wracks put up outside and taken down later, and the inventory in the back put away. I got the delivery man to stack it by the door in the back earlier."

If simple shop work had been her only problems to come of these injuries, she could have been at least content with the outcome. Hopefully burying herself in the work would help her forget for a little while all the heavy thoughts that kept trying to intrude. Having a friend around was already a big help.

She'd mentioned she needed help because she was banged up, but the casts were a dour reminder. Björn was gentle of the hug, not returning it too hard for fear of breaking the poor little thing more. "Helping a friend IS the most important thing I have to do today."

"Besides, lifting things and moving them around is what I do better than anyone," He joked, "at least I like to pretend so. "

As a precaution, he reached back and stuffed his braid down the back of his shirt so that it didn't swing out and smack anything. "As long as I can fit an arm into a space, I can stack stuff in it. If you can show me the what and where it goes, I can make the trips and chat to you while you watch your storefront."

Orah's smile turned shy and she shuffled a little as she shrugged. She was hardly important... but it was nice of him to say so. He was probably one of the nicest guys she had ever met and the teen found herself glad he called her a friend.

"Okay, first thing's first..." She said as she rubbed her palms together, feeling the roughness of her cast. "The racks out front need to be filled with the tubs I've got in the back. I had my Da pull them out earlier, but I couldn't carry all the tubs by myself. Here, its back this way."

A new spring in her step, Orah turned to lead the way to the back of the store and the bead-hung door way that led to the back room. Around the corner, across from the stairs, were tubs of cut flowers in water, arranged neatly as they waited to be put out front. A wobbly looking metal cart stood by, bearing its own load of tubs.

"I left these here last night so it would be easier to get out this morning... I can't carry the tubs by themselves, but I can sort of manage okay with the cart. Grab whatever you can carry and meet me out front, ok?" She said as she moved to push the tubs of tulips and daisies back the way they'd come.

Only about three or four fit on the cart at a time, and with the array of flowers the shop carried, it was going to take them a couple of trips to make it all. Luckily, the tubs had handles like a regular bucket, and thinking ahead, the teen had cleared the aisle to the door to make their trip easier.

"Da and Matthew did most of the work for us yesterday." Orah called back over her shoulder. "We've been working out a system to make things run as smoothly as possible until the cast comes off."

He followed pleasantly where she led, and examined the tubs and the path in turn. It wouldn't do to upend anything. The problem with tubs was that they were big and unwieldy more than heavy. And scraping them along hurt the tub. Stacking hurt the plants. One on each arm was the viable limit then, at least for efficiency of product more than weight sake.

He didn't bother with the handles, but grabbed them so that the ledge was supported like a child on each hip, and his hand steadying the load at the top rim. This was child's play compared to the atlas balls. "Matthew? Boyfriend?"

Orah stopped abruptly and spun around, leaning back on the cart as her cheeks turned bright red.

"Omigosh, no!" She gasped out, her brown eyes wide and embarrassed. "I-I don't have a boyfriend... Matthew is my younger brother. He's fourteen and goes to Meadowview. He helps out in the shop, but he's not nearly as committed to it as I am."

Turning back as she tried to calm the color in her cheeks, the teen pushed the cart the rest of the way to the front door, sliding around it to push the glass open as the bell above rang out happily. A little wooden wedge kept the door open as Orah pulled the cart the rest of the way out and made room for Björn, starting to shift the tubs from the card to the circular openings in the rack. She covered a wince by pressing her lips together, humming softly.

"Go ahead and put the tubs in the rack anywhere. Similar colors should go together."

"Ah...I see, " He could certainly see she was embarrassed. He wondered why, really. OH! Maybe I have been very rude. She might not like boys at all.

He woudl have facepalmed, but he was putting the tubs in their places. "I'm sorry, that was ..."

'Exclusionary', big guy. Nope, he couldn't come up with the word.

" Not all options. I mean, you could not like guys at all, or like them fine. Do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend, then?"

He looked over at her struggling a little with the buckets, more than he was for certain. He didn't pick up on it hurting, but the result was the same worried-but-gently-pleading offer, "No no, I can get them. Pushing the cart is more than enough. That cast is in the way, and while you have me here, there's no reason to risk dropping these on your foot, ja?"

The dark haired girl nearly dropped her tub on her foot as he warned her not to, feeling her face heat up again. Luckily, she managed well enough to ease it down onto the floor before she did too much damage.

"No! No, I mean... I do, but I... I like boys, b-but I... that's not to say girls aren't nice too, its just that..." When she realized she was stumbling, Orah paused for a moment to take a deep breath, letting it out in a whoosh before she tried again.

"I don't have anyone, I mean. I'm... single, I guess. I've never... gone out with anyone. I've just... never been good with that sort of stuff. And I'm usually busy with school, you know? Working the shop, taking care of my family..." She brushed her hands off on her hips as she straightened up, feeling awkward about over reacting to the questions. They'd been innocent enough, it was stupid to get so worked up.

Now, of course, she had to stand back and awkwardly wait for him to shift the tubs for her before they could go back for more... this was turning out just perfect, really.

"Sorry, yeah, go ahead and put the tubs up for me. Thank you.." Orah said, wanting to turn the conversation away. "I've got some bruises across my ribs, it makes it hard to lift stuff sometimes. I just didn't want to make you do it all."

He gave a good-natured laugh, "Ja, it is better that way, to pay more attention to books. Good studies are important. "

"We're young and we only have so much attention. It is a good thing to spend wisely. " It took no time at all to unload the cart. Since part of the fun was getting to show off, he picked Orah up and put her on the cart gently to wheel it into the back and get the rest.

"I am here to do all of everything and anything you need. " The news of bruised ribs even was terrible, "Didn't doctors tell you no more than five lbs for a week maybe? I've had broken ribs, and they didn't want me lifting more than ten. "

He started reloading the cart- Orah could choose if she wanted to remain on it and go for a ride or not. He was careful not to crowd her with the buckets, though. " I didn't listen very well, but I kept it to twenty five or less. But twenty five pounds is like lunch as you've already seen."

It was a bit mortifying to admit, but Orah actually squeaked when he lifted her up and sat her on the cart, dropping her hands to cling to the sides as he pushed her to the back room. After a moment, she couldn't help the absurdity of it all and she laughed, some of the tension going out of her posture. He made her feel like a little kid when he did that... no one had picked her up since her Da when she was a good deal younger. When they passed through the bead curtain, her hands helping to push them out of the way, she slid off the cart and let him lift the tubs up onto it.

"I know I'm not supposed to be lifting stuff but... you know what its like. You said yourself you were lifting more than you should. And its not like I went to a real hospital or anything..." The teens jaw snapped shut as she realized what she was saying and she covered it with a shrug and a smile. He didn't know, or need to know, that her doctor had been a knight and that he'd set her wrist in a dank alley next to the corpse of her attacker... Shangri-la was perfectly qualified, as she'd found out, as he really was a doctor in his civilian life. But that was only a reminder of what had happened, a reminder of the dark cloud she hadn't been able to shake.

"You eat twenty five pounds for lunch?" She chuckled, pulling her attention back to the present and not the past. "You might just literally eat someone out of house and home." Not that she really thought he ate that much, but he was a big guy. He most likely ate a lot more than even her growing teenage brother did to keep up with the demands of his training and Matthew was a proverbial bottomless pit.

"As my brother likes to tease me, I eat like a bird... except birds eat meat and I don't." Probably why she was sadly lacking in feminine assets, in her opinion... the vegetarian life didn't really help with putting on weight in the right places.

"Where is this mysterious Matthew?"

He was surprised to hear she was vegetarian, a word he was long since made familiar with. She HAD fed him a turkey sandwich, wasn't it? "But you bought turkey?"

"Well, just being a vegetarian doesn't mean having to be thin. Believe me. As much as I like meat, getting to have it with any regularity has only been since graduation. I have eat so much tofu, beans, nuts, lentils, yogurt, avocado and broccoli over the last two years to get enough protein to match my prime weights. You should have told me, I didn't have to eat turkey. It seems so mean to go eating meat in front of vegetarians." The last of the buckets were carted back to the shelves and he set to placing them colour-near to colour.

A fond smile slid onto Orah's face as she thought of her brother, mixed with a hint of sadness.

"I... honestly have no idea. He's probably out with his friends, like usual. He spends all of his time with them from what I can tell. I guess that's not abnormal for a boy his age. He does his share of the work around here, but disappears as soon as he's able to."

When he had finished loading up and began to push the cart towards the door, she shrugged and smiled, pulling a curl over her shoulder to busy herself with as she followed him back to the front. "My Da and brother eat it. They're normal, more or less. I just don't like eating it. It certainly doesn't bother me that you did!"

Leaning against the door frame, she watched him put the flowers away, the chill of December seeping through her warm sweater whenever a gust of a breeze passed by. The heaters under the stands kept the flowers from freezing, but she had no such help out here, so it was good they could close the door soon.

"Did you live with your family before graduation? I don't think you told me anything about them. As you've probably guessed, its just my Da, brother and me here."

"Ah...no...not so much. It's just my mother, Annbjørg, and I- it always has been. " Mentioning her brought a smile automatically to his eyes. "But I only got to live with her on holiday and breaks. Or if she had time to come to meets these last two years. We came to Destiny City because Hillworth was one of the few schools that would take a boy with a police record and an expulsion. Level III violations of the Code of Conduct: Disorderly Conduct, Fighting and a civilian misdemeanor of simple battery....my lab partner and friend was getting bullied, so I stepped in. " He wiped his hands idly on his pants, the last bucket placed. "It stopped the bullying, but I shouldn't touch people in any sort of violence, even if its just putting them against a wall to get them away from a friend. "

"Its just too much damage for the law to recognize as well meaning. "
"So by graduate...I'm a graduate of Hillworth. I promise I'm not a crook or bad apple. But a record is a record. Its supposed to be a closed file now though, since I turned eighteen. "

"You're at Meadowview?" She didn't look anything like a st. mag's girl, and there didn't seem enough ambition or money to be from crystal like Talia had been. Maybe she'd already told him this...

"Ah...what is next on my list of quests for my Princess-of-the-day?"

"That's sweet! I love my dad, but it would have been nice to know my mom better. Its too bad you didn't get to see her that much though..."

Dark eyes widened as he began to describe a past involving the police, shocked for a moment that such a gentle man would have a record like that. She almost didn't believe him... but it had to be true, she didn't think he'd lie to her. The reasoning behind it was a lot more in keeping with what she had come to think of Björn and her face eased back into a smile.

"I don't think you did anything wrong and I don't think you're a bad apple." Orah laughed, reaching out to touch his arm in reassurance. "Sometimes people don't see any deeper than the surface, but I've always got an open mind." The teen liked to think she could read people fairly well, or at least always find that bit of what was good in them. It was better that way than always being suspicious of them. You couldn't really be friends otherwise.

Hearing him call her his princess made her blush and she covered it by kicking the wedge out from the door and waving a hand towards the back room.

"I, uh... In the back. There's inventory I need stacked up." Orah said as she pressed her back against the cold glass of the door to hold it open for him. "Its, um, by the back door. Most if it is pretty self explanatory, I try to keep the back room tidy, but I can show you were some of the odd stuff goes, and we'll have to make room for the new seasonal items."

Geez... like she could ever be considered a princess. More like a peasant girl selling flowers by the road side... one who had the luck of a passing knight stopping to give her a hand out of the goodness of his heart. She didn't deserve it, but it just showed the true metal of his character.
