Navalin paced nervously in her den. It had not been long since she and her mate got together and now she was going to be popping something HUGE on her mate. How did one approach their mate with something as shocking as getting a male to sire cubs for them? It probably would not have been as bad had she discussed it with her mate before, but no, she had just gone out made a deal with a male she had just met and came back to the den with the news that it was already done.

The worst part of this was not so much that the deal was made but that Navalin had made the deal not with the lion himself but with his avian familiar and he had agreed to it because the BIRD said so. It in a way showed he knew his place, doing as his female companion had told him to. It also showed that his duty to his pride was important to him. These were both qualities that Navalin valued, even if there was a chance he could pass the meekness to daughters. It was a trade off for trying to make sure he did not make headstrong sons.

And there was another issue. She was going to be telling her mate that she had already made arrangements for the male to take any sons he sired by her. Navalin hated males, and could not bring herself to keep them if they had a father with a pride to help him raise them. But she was pretty sure her mate would have wanted to keep sons as well as daughters until the day they had to be kicked out of the pride. As much as Navalin hated males, she still could not stand the idea of raising her sons, possibly getting attached to them and then kicking them out when they got too old. It just seemed cruel.

Arenji had left the den quite some time ago, having grown tired of waiting for Navalin to return. She'd awoken that morning to an empty den, and it had remained that way for what seemed like forever! Before the sour faced lioness finally put on a happy face and made her daily stride around the pride. There were so many cubs dashing about, darting under legs, giggling and passing this way and that. They were just so adorable!

Arenji absolutely loved cubs, and couldn't wait for the day that she could have a litter of her own to share with her beloved Navalin. Though that day would not be today! She was quite bitter at the female for abandoning her this morning. What on Earth was so important, that she had to leave in such a rush?!

She was perturbed to say the least, but she knew at some point she had to return home. Eventually Navalin would return and then they could discuss her disappearance. But for all of that to happen, she actually had to be at home. Focusing her attention back on her surroundings, rather than her feelings she realized her conscious was already was step ahead of her. She was only a few yards from their den now, and she could easily catch the familiar scent of a certain lioness on the air.

Someone was about to get their hide chewed into!

Navalin stopped in her pacing and her ears perked up. She heard movement outside the den and caught the scent of her mate in the air. She was not really worried about the whole having disappeared that morning thing in light of everything else, so she was not expecting her mate to blow up at her about that. Then again, Nav could not think of Arenji ever blowing up about anything. The lioness was just that gentle, but who knew how upset she would be about the deal the green lioness had made.

Navalin watched the entrance of the den, waiting as her mate's scent got closer, and then she saw her mate come into the den entrance. The green lioness does not give her mate a chance to speak first. "Arenji, I have something important for us to discuss... I probably should have told you this yesterday." Oh how to begin this. She was not sure there was any safe way to start on this subject. She would have an upset mate anyway she looked at it.

Arenji had hardly anytime to realize her mate had entered the den before her mate had descended upon her and begun spewing nonsense at her. None of it made a lick of sense, and yet she seemed so frantic about all of it. It all seemed to make her petty argument fade from memory and all her attention suddenly focus on what could have Navalin so up in arms.

"W-What is it? What's wrong, did something happen? Why are you acting so strangely?" She nearly had to stuff her own paw in her mouth to prevent her from asking anymore questions! She was sure Navalin would explain herself, the only thing was, she wasn't explaining herself quickly enough! And what was this business of 'should have told you this yesterday?!''

The poor female's eyes widened in fear as she tried to calm the nerves going wild inside of her body.

"Well!? Go on - what is it Navalin?!"

Navalin took a deep breath and tried to both gather her thoughts and steady her nerves. She was just getting her mate riled up and that was never good. The green lioness was supposed to be the support for her sweet little mate. She knew her mate was excitable and much to naive, which meant the other lioness would feed off Navalin's mood. The best way to handle this was going to be with confidence so Arenji did not get too excited. Now Navalin just needed the words to approach the subject.

"Calm down, Ari. I just have some news and was a little nervous. Something did happen but it is something good." That was a good start in Navalin's mind. It was confident, it should put her mate at ease, and it gave her a sense of control over the situation again. That sense of control was something Navalin certainly needed right now. "I arranged to have daughters for us to raise.. and for any sons to go with the father. Yesterday I made an agreement with a male for a litter."

The silence was killing her, and she couldn't contain it much longer. Her paws were beginning to prance nervously on the floor of the den, and it wouldn't be long before she was pacing back and forth hyperventilating over all the things running through her mind.

Finally, she heard Navalin speak up and she was able to catch hold of her thoughts long enough to return to reality for a short time. OK, so it was good news. But if it was good news, why was she so nervous to tell her about it? Wasn't good news something you were meant to be excited about?! She could feel the nerves bubbling in her belly once more and she tried to squelch them down.

As her mate finally blurted out her news, it felt as though time had stopped for the female. Everything was frozen, and she couldn't do a thing but try to comprehend what she had been told.

"Y-You what?" She mumbled, trying her hardest to remain calm through the massive attack she felt coming on.

"I made arrangements for a male to sire a litter... I actually made the deal with his little bird companion, but he was quite willing to go along with it. He as a pride and a desire to keep his sons, so we will not have to worry over them... we can focus on our daughters." Navalin was sure her mate had to like the idea of daughters. She just also wanted her mate NOT to be mad about her making the deal without discussing it first. That was rather an ill thought out part of this plan on the green lioness' end.

"Are you not proud of me? I actually did not even try to harm the male." Okay so Navalin had threatened him and threw a rock at him. She HAD NOT harmed him in any way, and the rock was not meant to hit him, just scare him off. It was a lot better than the green lioness normally played with males near the pride's borders. She often let hatred rule when dealing with the things. Of course the male's little bird companion being a female had helped matters at least. THAT creature had some sense in her head.

It all seemed to hit her at once, and she wasn't at all sure what to address first. She was of course elated to hear that her mate would soon be carrying their children, but in the same breath to hear her so proud to be rid of their sons ... she wasn't sure she was as ready as Navalin was for that moment.

Arenji bit her lip slightly as she smiled at Navalin, truly happy for what had just been revealed to her. But in a sense, also crushed, though she couldn't tell Navalin that. She knew how Navalin felt about males. It was an all too common in this pride for the females to hold a hatred towards them, Arenji just happened to be a member of a fine minority.

"That's wonderful!" She finally managed to bumble out, with a skip in her step. "But ... his bird companion?! Are you sure that's really a capable lion to place our children's lives in?" Tilting her head to the side a bit, she tried to comprehend exactly what this bird had to do with anything, and why the bird was the one making the deals.

"And of course i'm very proud of you for not hurting him, though you can't blame me for being a little skeptic of your claim..." She grinned sheepishly at Navalin and nudged her gently in the side. All the while hiding the pain she felt at knowing she would never truly get to know who her sons really were.

"He is a bit obsessed with his duty to his pride, and the bird is female and intelligent. She assures me that even if he would not be up to fathering his pride is a good one and would help. She thinks he'll be a fine father, and she should know him better than most." Navalin was putting a lot of faith in the word of the bird. The creature had really seemed to have a sound mind and good nature. And the bird had stood up to NAVALIN to make her stop throwing rocks at the lion. That had to be worth something.

"I only threw one rock at him and it was not aimed to hit him... which is when the bird got involved. Apparently she did not appreciate my throwing a rock at her companion." Navalin chuckled and settled the last of her nerves about the whole thing. She knew her mate was going to be a little sad at not having the sons, but why get attached to offspring one had to send off? It did not seem fair to the offspring or the mothers. "He can be a bit mousy but he does not seem a bad lion from what I have talked to him, Arenji. I think the bird is right about him."

She assures me that even if he would not be up to fathering his pride is a good one and would help.

Despite everything else Navalin told her, these are the words that stuck with her the most. Why on Earth would he not be up to fathering his own children? She knew the bird had meant it as a hypothetical, but the fact that she had even had to mention it ... well it didn't sit right with her. Not one single bit.

"What exactly is his duty, and this pride he belongs to?" Arenji paused, and raised a paw as she took a rather long deep breath and released it. "You seem to have a lot of trust in this avian, I guess that has to stand for something doesn't it?"

She smiled lightly as Navalin began to go into how the two had met. Ah-ha, so there had been some confrontation after all! She couldn't help but chuckle at the entire thing, it was definitely a Navalin story, no doubt about that.

"Well you call me mousy sometimes, so I don't think that's such a bad thing. But I do have one question about all of this." Pausing the entire conversation, she straightened her posture and stared directly into her mates eyes.

"I want to meet him Navalin. I want to meet the lion."
