Personality description:
Constance is deeply naiive and innocent, victim of a sheltered upbringing. She believes authority is in place for a Very Good Reason and is to be respected even if their actions, decisions, laws, etc. don't seem to make much sense. She's been raised from a young age by a very strict merchant father to be a Good Girl, and she tries very hard to follow suit. She especially loathes pirates and piracy, because they have directly harmed her father's business and he is a good man... right?
Deep down, though, she's juuuusst begun to realize that her father isn't as perfect as he seems. She doesn't want to question his authority, because it has formed the underpinnings of her world for her whole life. That, and if her father can make mistakes, so too could anyone in a position of power. It's a terrifying thought for such a sheltered young woman.
Abilities and Powers
None, unless you count a nigh- preternatural ability to get every inch out of a bolt of cloth and rattle off endless facts and figures as regards piracy. (Not that she allows anyone to know she can do the latter)
Brief Biography:
Constance has been raised between her family's home in Palisade and the small summer home her father keeps in Oldcastle. Her parents emigrated to Sunderland from Albyr in their youth and, faced with the strangeness of a new land and distrust or outright hostility from the locals, turned inward, to each other and their beliefs, for comfort and strength.
They are deeply conservative and religious (Naturists, as it happens, of the flavor that incorporates belief in the Old Ways into their system of worship as is common in Albyr), and have impressed the same upon their children. Rather than rebelling as children sometimes do (and as her eldest brother Roland frequently did), the quiet and somewhat timid Constance has accepted their authority as absolute and sought to please them as best she could.
Constance's father reserves a special venom for the scourge of the seas: pirates. He's lost cargo and friends to their depredations and seen other men he likes and respects suffer similarly. He insisted on attempting to instil a similar loathing in his children.
Then, seven years ago, Constance's eldest brother disappeared while on a sea voyage to the New World. Her father told everyone, including the family that he was "lost to pirates" and that the likelihood of him surviving, let alone returning home, were slim. In truth, her father and brother had fought and her brother had left home to become a pirate, whose daring and free lifestyle he had long admired.
Constance, ignoring the likelihood of her brother's demise, has latched onto the slim hope that he has survived and has dedicated herself to learning all that she can (in secret, of course, as father would never approve) about pirates and piracy. She believes that he was captured and is, even after all these years, being held against his will by the pirates. Perhaps they marooned him somewhere, or are using him as a slave. Either way, she is certain that he is alive but suffering terribly, and means to save him by any means necessary.
