The dark mare crumbled under the force of his hoof on her neck, her form twitching for an instant before the mist of death settled over her wide eyes. Mest huffed, the big puffs of warm air from his mouth visible in the dry cold of the day. He shook off the lingering pain from the fight, and eyed the body of the mare he had been sent by Nellie to kill. Leaning down and ripping off the necklace around the mare's neck with his teeth, he turned and draped it over the bones on his back.
With proof of kill, he could finally return back home to his special one. Time apart was hard on Mest. After just finding his love, Lazarus, it was awful being separated. He'd have to bring back a nice rabbit or two as a gift to the small stallion. Nellene could get her own food. He snorted at the thought of his dysfunctional family and the ornery Kalona mare that dictated their every action.
Suddenly, Mest stopped. His warrior-trained senses were going haywire. What was that noise? He strained his ears and heard it again. The distant, yet distinct, rustling of foliage. Someone was nearby, and they would come upon him and his kill soon. He let out a growl. So much for the mare living in a near empty part of the forest. He was bleeding a bit, the mare had gotten in a swipe or two with her talons before he had crushed her spine, but he could take on another opponent depending on their skills. He walked around the dead mare and eyed the trees with a frown.

The smell of blood was in the air and this kind of scent drew Chosovi out of her perch high up in the trees. She usually didn’t chase after something and preferred to get her own meal, but today she was curious. Curious as to what was injured and knew they were far too close to her family’s home in the woods. This was the thing that was making her curious. If it were a family member she would be devastated and probably would hunt down the beast that hurt them. The only issue was, no one in her family was that stupid so it had to be from another source and the smell was beginning to make her stomach rumble. She wouldn’t eat whatever it was. She preferred her own kills and left the scavenging for other creatures.
She stepped out of the brush, ears perked up and her tail lashing around behind her in a sort of frenzy. The first thing she noticed was the large brute of a stallion circling around the dead carcass as if he was the best thing around. She knew he was protecting his kill and honestly she didn’t want any part of it. She simply was curious. Then her eyes fell on the dead clawed female making her immediately uneasy. If this mare died, then she probably wasn’t trained well enough or she was an idiot. There was no reason for her to suffer that fate at the hands of someone such as him. Then again she was being a little judgmental and he probably had his reasons for doing this.
She kept her distance just in case he decided to lash out at her as well. But there was one thing she needed to make clear before anything else. “I am not here for your kill. I simply followed the smell and do not feast on ones like us” She mentioned to him in a soft unthreatening tone of voice looking down at the carcass seeing the wide-eyed stare the mare gave. With a stare like that, she knew she was going to die and say death at that moment. She was referring to horses in general even though neither of them looked a like and she appeared to look more like a wolf then anything. She was a little larger then the normal sized female, but very lean and delicate.
There was nothing more she could say. She didn’t know what this stallion was up to or if he wanted to attack her. She wasn’t going to push her luck at the moment. Not after that horrific run in with wolves she had.
