After making sure that she had enough money set aside for rent that month she had thumbed through the bills she had left, adding numbers up quickly in her head before doing a little dance of triumph. She'd finally had a decent enough night at work that, after tips, she still had enough to cover all of her bills and buy some gifts for her family for the holidays with a little left over. It was a good feeling and with the extra twenty dollars she had beyond that she was going to do something nice for herself.
Whereas before she might have made an appointment at the spa, whipping out her father's credit card to cover for a full massage along with a mani/pedi combo this time she tugged on her boots, snagged a hat and her scarf and took off for the movie theater. It had been so long since she'd caught anything on the big screen, settling more often than not for waiting until it came out on dvd or hoping that someone had uploaded a copy to the internet that didn't look like it had been filmed on their camera phone... And popcorn. Hot, buttery popcorn...
The thought put an added spring to her step as she rounded the block, hoping that there would be something good just about to start by the time she got there.

Erik Corlione had his own reasons for being at the theater that night...most of them involving the sporty dark red vest with gold trim he was wearing over an white button down shirt and black pressed pants. Arguably the dullest thing he had ever worn in his life... at least until you got to the black and white checkerboard sneakers and black and purple striped socks. It wasn't a dignified job or a dignified outfit, but he was grinning like an LED bulb as he dolled out boxes of candy, tubs of popcorn, and what might be best labeled vats of soda. He liked doing tickets better, but this slot wasn't covered, and he was pretty decent on the upsell. What he wasn't prepared for though was a glimpse in the incoming crowds that looked... really really familiar...

It seemed like there was a pretty decently sized turnout for whatever cartoon it was she had snagged a ticket to. It looked like it would be more promising overall than something promising action packed explosions and fast paced fight scenes... She'd had more than enough of those to last her a lifetime in her own reality without needing a thrill from watching them on the screen. Feeling a bit warm now that she was out of the wind she loosened her scarf and pulled off her hat, tucking it into her oversized pocket before drawing out the old bills that had been handed back to her as change at the box-office. She had enough for popcorn, that was for sure, but she found herself staring at the menu wondering if she could get a drink as well or if she'd just have to ask for a cup for water if they'd let her have one. She didn't seem to notice when the couple in front of her finished with their order, stepping away to leave her completely distracting and entirely inattentive to what was going on before her.

Normally the opening line was 'What can I get you" or some variation thereof, but as she approached the counter, the young man behind it instead, with just a hint of amazed wonderment said...
"...Batgirl?"
He blinked, blinked again, and then the smile that had wavered in confusion and amazement bloomed back even more brightly. "Cordy! Can I get you a snack?"
He wanted to jump over the counter and hug her hello, to catch up for hours, but he had a job to do for now... and he didn't even know if she was as happy to see him as he was to see her.
Either way, it was so fabulous to see her alive and well.

She almost responded with 'yes, a girl wearing a shirt with a bat on it would imply that' until she recalled in that split second of pause that she wasn't wearing one of her Batgirl or Batman t-shirts. Even if she had been, her coat was still buttoned up and...
A look of sorts crossed her face and she looked for a moment like she was about to go into how she wasn't interested and how she'd like to have her popcorn so she didn't miss the sneak peeks and previews, but then she heard her name and paused again.
"I..." Her own eyes widened, taking on a glistening sheen as if on the verge of some display of greater emotion. She swallowed it back, quite certain that it was only in movies that people hopped counters to hug one another and while she might have been at the movies, she certainly wasn't in one.
Cordelia took a deep breath, flashing him an earnest grin. "Popcorn, please?" Popcorn, please? Really, she chastised herself mentally at how stupid she must sound. "You work here? I didn't know you worked here... How long have you been back in town? I'm so sorry I didn't... I mean that I haven't..." She glanced down at the counter, worrying her lower lip with her teeth as she kept herself from rambling on.
"It's good to see you, Oddy."

"Perfect snack for the movies." Oddy beamed, reaching for a cup to fill with popcorn. "I came back... a week or two ago...one of my relatives owns the theatre, he's been struggling with his health so I came to help out. My folks aren't thrilled but I wanted to come back anyway." He paused long enough to fill a cup with popcorn and hold it out to her. "I get off shift in a couple hours. Why don't we catch up after you get out of your movie. You can tell me how it was and we'll catch up!" He suggested, shifting weight foot to foot cheerfully. YayayayayCordy! "I missed you!"

"Add on a diet coke and it's a date." She flashed him another smile, certain that this time it made it all the way up to lighting her eyes again. "I got tickets to see that one with the snowman... I'll meet you outside? After the movie?" She set the bills along with a few coins down on the counter, claiming the cup of popcorn while just smiling. Erik Corlione had the most infectious smile and he'd always had a way of bringing that out in her... But if he kept on about this whole 'missing' thing she was going to wind up misty-eyed in front of people. "Save it for after the show, tiger." She waved it off, trying to be the 'tough girl'.

"Ha! Sounds like a plan!" He laughed, grabbing a cup and fetching her drink. "Best kind of movie date, right? No one steals your popcorn from you." he teased, since they were meeting after the movie. Hm. Maybe it was funnier in his head... oh well. "I haven't seen it yet, so you'll have to tell me how it is, ok?" He added, placing the popcorn and the drink in front of her. "I'll cover this, my way of saying Hi again ok?" He had the money for the till, and he hadn't seen her in so long, it was the least he could do.

She eyed him for a moment before scooping her money off of the counter, stuffing it into the children's charity donation jar before taking the drink. "Outside after the movie. I'll be waiting for you, Corlione." Shifting the popcorn in one hand and the drink in the other she turned away from the counter, casting one more glance back over her shoulder to make sure she hadn't been making things up before grinning like an idiot again as she made her way down the hall to her theater.

A couple hours later found Oddy waiting outside as promised, poking at his cell phone to kill time.Although still in uniform, his checkerboard shoes stood out with a pin covered winter coat, red and black gloves, and a long pink and black scarf. He caught sight of Cordelia out of the corner of his eye and turned to wave her down with unbridled enthusiasm. "Hey, Batgirl! How was the movie? Did you load up on popcorn or do you want to go get a burger or something?"

She had paused inside long enough to tug her hat back on, fussing with her hair a bit before dabbing on a bit of lipgloss before slipping outside, pausing once more to pull her gloves on as she glanced around. Oddy was easy enough to spot and catching him waving about was enough to chase off any feeling of awkwardness she had, even if it left a bit of anxiousness lingering behind. "Burgers? Burgers sound amazing. There's a place that just opened up that has the best cheddar bacon burger and..." Teeth tugged at her lower lip for a moment as she pressed her mental mute button. "I swear I'm totally not a pig. It's just been a really long time since I've had a burger. It's hard to justify going out for one sometimes when you're weighing it against rent and the things you should be eating instead."

"Pig?" Oddy challenged, eyebrows raising steeply. "Did you forget who you're talking to? Oddy Corlione would never call someone a pig for having a healthy and awesome appreciation for delicious food. Especially someplace that has apparently opened recently and I have probably not been." He clapped his hands together, which made a dull clomp because of the gloves and beamed at her. "Burgers it is! Because people 'should' at things that make them happy."

"Just making sure." She flashed him another broad grin before taking him by the arm so she could guide him in the right direction before pausing to glance up. "Did you drive here? It's only a short walk, but I wouldn't want you to have to back track if it means leaving a car here."

"I walked." Oddy assured her. "And no problem on back tracking anyway, it's good excersize. I still like to go for runs, although I guess these days that's as good as asking for a fight. At least I've got a bit more going for me than most joggers huh? But enough about me, what's been going on with you? I haven't heard from you in forever Batgirl! You've gotta fill me in!"

"I... Kind of fell off the grid for a while." She shuffled her feet, keeping the pace relatively slow for the moment as they made their way down the street towards the burger place. "Both as myself... And my other self. Never answered the phone, stopped going to classes at the Prep. Parents threatened to ground me, but really... How do you ground someone who's not a kid anymore?" Her head tilted slightly and she glanced up to him for a moment before continuing on. "I moved out after trying to run away to a different place didn't work out. Crashed on couches for a bit until I could afford a place on what I had in savings, shredded my credit cards... Got a job." She managed a small grin. "I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch..."
