WHO: Cordelia, Ebony (Ebony Shade) & Alex, Zul (Chrystali)
WHEN: Midday, at the start of the New Year
WHERE: The local food and arcade joint, Dan & Bruiser's
WEATHER: Still cold outside, but warm within.

"Really?" the demon repeated himself, clearly amused. "They wanted to meet here?"

Alex shrugged, smiling at him. "Most people know you used to be big on games. It's a nice compromise."

Zul tipped his head in acknowledgement, but amusement still lit his features. "I have a hard time imagining Cordelia and Ebony finding a good time in a place like this." He could hear the distant jingle of ticket games and the hard knocks of joysticks being yanked against the plastic confines of fighting games; people talking, the smell of food in the air, all of it very public -- it was unusual, to him, to meet the two women in such a venue. Ebony had always struck him as someone very private and his Stormy...well. Last time he'd seen her, she hardly seemed in the mood to speak, let alone in such a social setting.

"Maybe that's the point." The woman shrugged and looked inside, hands in her jacket pockets while they waited outside for the other two to arrive. She'd heard only briefly from Zul of Cordelia's strange behavior over Christmas, and with Ebony then asking to meet up, she had a small idea of what was going on. She was only too happy to help -- especially to see the two that meant a great deal to her. "But since when did you start calling her Cordelia?" The question was innocent, but earnest; it was odd, Zul not using a nickname for a dear one.

It was his turn to shrug then, a thoughtful expression briefly settling on his features. "She's not Stormy right now. She's a cloudy night sky, but she's lost her thunder." Zul glanced to Alex. "I trust that's what she'll get back." The demon again tipped his head in acknowledgement and fell silent. It wasn't a broody, pensive silence, but instead one that was entertaining himself with trying to imagine Ebony playing ski ball or seeing the purple-haired woman playing a shooting game with Alex. It made him smile, despite the dour circumstance of what might be to come.

"Here?" Delia asked suspicious as they got out of the car. Now maybe she could see Zul and possibly Alex coming to a place like Dan and Bruiser's, but Ebony...well nothing about the purple-haired Brit really screamed 'I love video games.'

"Yes. Is there a problem?" As cool and collected as she tried to sound, Ebony actually had butterflies in her stomach at the moment. There was no way she could let on that this was a bit of a setup so that Alex could secretly assess the snake Raevan. At this point in time the woman was starting to pull her hair out trying to figure out why her charge was always in such a fowl mood, one of which seemed to be more aimed towards herself than any other person. Was it simply a misunderstanding or had Ebony somehow angered the girl without knowing? Honestly she sort of hoped that was the case, yet it was impossible for her to tell for sure since Cordelia really wasn't speaking to her much these days. Zul was her only trump card to play, yet she knew it was a tricky one since the demon was just as close to the smoke Raevan as Rivener, who hadn't once let slip that he was covering something up for the girl. All she could hope was that Zul wouldn't come under the same non-disclosure that the scorpion had.

Still with a bit of suspicion in her grey eyes, Cordelia sunk deeper into her green coat for warmth. "No, not really. Just...surprised is all..." Spotting their companions, the girl zoomed ahead to greet them. "Zuuuuul! Come on let's get inside, it's freezing out here. Hi Alex." Not wasting any time, the Frei grabbed the Sigel's hand and dragged him inside, eager to escape their humans.

Ebony had to jog to keep up with her charge, but stopped short of the actual entrance and stood next to Alex. With a sigh, "I'm sorry, she's still moody today. But I will say it's probably better than most days lately." The Brit gave a weak smile to the Italian. "Alex, thank you so much for meeting with us. I would have asked sooner, but...I was kind of hoping things would resolve themselves somehow. Plus the holidays and whatnot..."

Alex barely had time to eek out a 'hi!' before Delia was gone, her demon in tow. The dark-haired woman gave Ebony a sort of bewildered smile as she approached, gently putting a hand on her shoulder in greeting. Though she was usually affectionate, she was trying to keep her wits about her, given that the other looked rather frazzled. "It's okay Ebs! She's a growing girl. She's allowed to have her moments." Smiling reassuringly, she took the door in her hand and opened it for her friend, trying to usher her into the warm arcade. "Come. Let's get us something to drink and get the kids some tokens and we'll talk."

For his part, the demon was terribly amused still, willingly being dragged within, holding the Basilisk's hand tight. Once safely within the bowels of the place, the door more than out of earshot, the demon gave a gentle tug on the hand he held, using the brief shift in momentum to press up behind her in a warm embrace. "Nice to see you again too," he quipped playfully over her shoulder, squeezing her with the affection his Guardian was restraining from. "Are you feeling better?" He relaxed his hold to allow her room to escape, also allowing him the ability to shift around slightly to her side so he could see her face. "From the party?"

Cordelia was so focused on getting away from Ebony that she wasn't really sure where she was speeding away to. All she knew was that the further away from the sight of purple hair the better she'd feel...or at least that's what she hoped. At her current speed and with the sudden tug, the snake couldn't help flinging back into Zul as she did with an audible 'oh' popping out of her mouth. Her first instinct was to turn and see if her friend was all right since the first thing he would have met were the sharp tips of her wings. The Frei didn't get that far as strong, warm arms enclosed about her from behind. At first his words were comforting and playful, but quickly shifted to serious and concerned.

As the demon turned her about to face him, Delia's eyes kept from meeting his. Idly scratching her sweatshirt covered elbow, "I-I'm okay..." Truthfully she wasn't. No matter what kind of lotions or moisturizers she used, the basilisk's rash only seemed to get worse and was slowly spreading more with each week that passed. Soon she just wouldn't be able to hide it anymore and that fact terrified her because she wasn't sure what her or her humans would do then.

If that weren't enough, Cordelia was starting to experience some minor pain in her jaw as well. It was like there was a pressure building up in the base corner of her mouth and the only thing that seemed to dull it was if she rubbed it for a long period of time or placed something cold on it, the latter of which you could imagination was not her favorite. Trying to smile it off, "Really. Let's just have some fun okay?"

Ebony sighed and gave Alex's sympathetic hand a light squeeze before following the other into the establishment. "Dear lord yes! I could definitely use a drink." She wasn't really a drunk by any means, yet even the Brit had to admit she was drinking a lot more than she normally did these days.

After getting inside, Ebony found herself at a total lose. She'd never been in a place like this before. Kids and adults alike were racing around being loud and rambunctious. The only part that she could identify as even remotely familiar was the bar area of which was hugged on both sides by billiard tables and sports entertainment. It would be hard to keep an eye on the kids as Alex referred to their charges, but the Brit had a feeling that it would have been hard either way with Cordelia's mood. It would probably do both females good to not be keeping close tabs on one another for a good while.

Pointing to a more secluded booth in the back of the bar, Ebony asked, "Is a booth okay?"

The demon gave the Basilisk a look that was gentle but still plainly said that he didn't believe her. However, as her friend, Zul would not press if she wasn't ready to talk, not yet. He wanted her to open up and share her upset, but he figured that some fun and rebuilding the friendship that time might have weathered would help and go a long way. So rather than push, rather than say was so plainly in his blue eyes, the Sigel smiled and tipped his head in agreement. "Then let's play some games."

Alex chuckled at Ebony's confession, nodding inwardly as they entered the louder establishment. Gently touching the woman's elbow in a gesture to lead, the Italian carved a path towards the indicated booth, pressing beyond running children and rowdy adults alike until they were safely by the table. "Take a seat, read through the special drinks in the back of the menu and I'll get the kids their tokens." She flashed Ebony a reassuring smile, hoping she'd relax a little in finding something familiar to drink and calm her nerves, moving across the room to quickly get change for twenty dollars and just as deftly pressing the tokens into Zul's hand as he finished mentioning playing games to Cordelia. Returning to Ebony not but maybe two minutes later, she slid in the booth across from the purple-haired female, resting on her elbows as she regarded the Guardian with sympathy in her green eyes. "So. Let's get us some drinks, a snack and see what we can do, okay?" One step at a time. Comforts first.

Divying up the lines of tokens he had from his woman's quick passage, he handed half to Cordelia. Usually he'd hold onto them and be the gentleman, but he wanted to give the snake her freedom to move and respond and have some control in whatever situation was bothering her. "What'll it be first? Shooters? Ticket games? There's a lot to do and I'm good at them all." He was teasing, of course, but Zul was trying to keep a decent sense of humor despite his concern.

Cordelia's chest tightened in stress when she saw Alex coming towards them then. She feared Ebony wouldn't be too far behind. Honestly, could that woman not just leave her alone for two seconds? Unexpectedly though, the human simply and without a word placed something into her Raevan's hand before disappearing from sight once more. The Basilisk soon learned what it was that Zul had received as he gestured for her hands. Cupping both for her friend, Delia watched as several gold coins dropped into her palms. The Frei sighed with relief. Her guardian needed to take a lesson or two from Alex, that was for sure.

A sense of challenge lit up in Cordelia's eyes as Zul claimed to be good at all the games there. Stuffing the coins in her coat pocket, the snake huffed and floated off with her head held high. "Well we'll just see about that. To the shooters!"

Ebony had to admit she felt completely at a loss after Alex whisked her to a seat only to disappear soon after. The loud, unfamiliar noises, although a bit more muffled in this booth, were not what the Brit had in mind when trying to relax. Worriedly, the woman bit her bottom lip as she tried to do as instructed, pick a drink from the menu. It wasn't easy, her mind's eye always slipping from the page and making her read the same line twice. Would this work? Would Cordelia talk to Zul about what happened? Would Zul tell her after?

The woman jumped slightly when Alex suddenly appeared in front of her again. Startled from her wandering thoughts, Ebony tried to gather herself back together quickly and eyed the menu hard. "Oh right, um...I guess I know what I want to drink. Do you need a few moments still?" She could see out of the corner of her eye one of the waitstaff ready to pounce on their table from afar.

The sigh wasn't missed, but he didn't comment on it, something that he felt would be a reoccurring theme throughout the day. Instead, he focused on what made the Basilisk happy, and just then, it was the challenge of his comment and playing some shooters. "I'll give you a fair shot," he continued to tease, hoping to appeal to her competitive nature and perhaps give her the boost of confidence she needed to perhaps confide in him later. "Lady picks the game. Just to be fair." The demon grinned, but he was mostly serious -- he easily had a game or two memorized from so much play. Hooking his thumb in the direction of the shooters, he stayed at her side, letting her dictate the pace.

Alex rest her chin upon her hand, pursing her lips in thought at Ebony's reaction. Like Zul, she was aware of her friend's unusual reactions, but it was easy to chalk it up to her Frei's odd behavior. She herself had been a walking anxiety attack when Zul was spending time with his ex-tutor. Of course...this was nothing like that, but the secrets and shut out were hard to deal with. "No, I'm more of a water type of gal. Especially since I want to keep an eye on those two."

Her green eyes flickered towards the Raevans as she removed her arms from the table, leaning back in the booth. When her gaze settled again on Ebony, it was acute, but gentle. "How are you, other than the obvious? I'm asking as a friend but also to see if maybe there's anything at home that might be affecting Delia." She was the Lab's doctor, after all, and though she had no credentials as a human doctor, she'd seen enough of the Raevans to know some of they psychology by now. Disruptions are home were typically a huge conduit for the power breaking out...as was a pending growth.

And for a moment, the stress of her life seemed to just melt away as Cordelia took in all the flashing lights and loud sounds beckoning her to play this game or that game. Her sole worry at this point in time was in choosing a game in which she could beat the pants off Zul at...figuratively of course. As her eyes wandered over shooters that shot water at tangible targets as well as several virtual ones that focused on zombie killing, the Basilisk starting wondering if maybe she'd gotten into a situation that was well over her head to begin with. The snake Raevan didn't have much experience when it came to playing these kinds of games. She was only use to one or two that she'd started playing on her computer not that long ago. The likes of which took only the skill of hitting buttons and clicking a mouse. Cordelia gulped as she picked up the gun of a game at random. Something told her she was sort of screwed.

Ebony blinked. Water? This made the Brit feel somewhat lowly. In her mind something clicked saying that a responsible guardian would do just as Alex was, keeping in control. It made her question what kind of guardian she had been up til that point and think twice about whether she truly needed that drink or not. In the end, Ebony went with an ice tea. And no, it wasn't of the Long Island variety.

"Well aside from the obvious..." Ebony sighed, "I would say I'm doing quite well. New job that I am liking quite surprisingly and I've recently reconciled differences with my formerly estranged father. In fact he's moved in with us not that long ago." She wanted to ask how things were with Zul and her, yet felt it was somehow out of place for her to ask. After all, they were here on Lab business, more or less.

If Cordelia's confidence was slowly circling the drain, the demon was acutely aware of it. Zul's brows furrowed for a brief moment, quickly replacing his concern with a smile as he tucked the coins into the slots of the machine. "Hey, don't look so worried. I'll keep them from ganging up on you." He grinned, picking up his own gun and very gently bumping shoulders with the Basilisk. "These starting levels always like to build us up anyway, and we've always made a good team, you 'n me." The demon held the gun up against his opposite shoulder as the opening cut scene played, looking at his friend warmly. Lowering his voice as though to speak in conspiracy, he leaned towards her and whispered, "Besides, I like working with you rather than against you."

Alex's eyes flickered towards the menu at the change of drink, but she didn't comment. She certainly hoped Ebony didn't change it for her sake -- it was impossible at that moment for her to tell her friend that the reason she was against booze in public was because she was an angry drunk.

Chuckling under her breath at herself, she immediately perked up when her friend began to speak. "No kidding! New job, and -- with your dad? Really? Wow, Ebs, that's -- that's fantastic!" The Italian sat upright, leaning against the table with bright eyes. "That's great! It seems like things are going well, so, what's troubling you?" She paused, considering. "Does Delia get along with your father?"
