WE ARE HALLOWEEN Death Hunter DEATHSWEEPER General Information The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.
If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.
If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.
Mechanics roll 1 d10 check for hp loss and death decide whether or not to use your bonuses if you survive, repeat. roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are! -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd
01. horrible death 02. - 50% HP 03. live 04. live 05. - 50% HP 06. - 50% HP 07. horrible death 08. - 50% HP 09. live 10. horrible death
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.
(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

Attempt 1She'd heard horror stories about the dread tiles. She'd heard enormous heroes were brought to their knees by the dastardly course. Leave it to Caelius to have the one course that sucked d**k.
From the instructions the course techs gave her, it sounded a lot like minesweeper. Especially since they affectionately called it "deathsweeper."
Well- Chel had never really liked minesweeper, but if it it was a game, it had rules and she could learn those rules. Here went nothing.
Literally. When she stepped onto the first tile, nothing happened. So far so good? Maybe it just hadn't started yet. She gave a wave to the techs, letting them know she was ready. They just gave a confused raise of their brows.
< I believe the course has started. >

Seeing as her game had begun, Chel took a step to the left. Water poured down from the ceiling, slamming her into the tile with the force of a blastoise's hydro pump.
< Yes, there is an 88.9% chance that the game has already begun. >

With the water still pouring on her, Chel army crawled to the next square over, which was thankfully silent. She sprawled out, attempting to catch her breath while she spat up the extra water in her lungs.
Well this was an impressive start.Status Step: 3 HP: 20/40 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 0

< Miss Chel, I suggest using the flag you were presented with upon entering this trial. >
"The flag? What am I supposed to do with a flag?" she questioned. Chel had assumed it was given to her to wave when she wanted to surrender. That was how flags worked in war, right?
A loud sigh filled her mind, and then Tenebrae said, < You place it on a tile you'd like to step on. It is a way of testing if there is a trap on the tile of your future placement. >
Chel sort of got the idea, and Tenebrae was usually right, so she threw it on one tile in front of her, which then caught on fire in a giant column of flames. "So. Probably not that one." Status Step: 4 HP: 20/40 Flags: 0 Instinctive moves: 0

Attempt 2After a good healing from the life hunters, Chel was back and ready to try again. This time she was a bit more cautious, slightly more terrified than she had been the first time.
One step out and her foot was caught in a bear trap.

After some painfully embarrassing and painfully ... painful scenes of her tearing the trap off her foot, leaving that leg bloody and her hands stained with red, Chel limped a step forward.
The tile was quite. Too quiet.
Chel was officially paranoid.Status Step: 2 HP: 20/40 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 0

She wasn't dumb though. Chel remembered the flag she had, and decided to throw it out. Lo and behold, there was a net trap, which would have had her dangling from the ceiling.
"Well I'm not out yet, am I?" she said through heaving breaths.

Her flag was spent and she had two choices left. She couldn't go backwards- the bear trap was there. She couldn't go forward- that was the net trap. So it was either left or right.
Chel took a chance and went left.
Left was not the right way.Status Step: 4 HP: 0/40 Flags: 0 Instinctive moves: 0

Attempt 3Chel threw a flag onto the first square- use it first things first. No more bear traps.
A giant stone fist came down, slamming onto the tile. Well that would've left this golem a squished pile of gross.
Just like a mario game, while the thwomp fist was rising, she quickly hopped onto the tile. She'd only have a few seconds to make her next choice!Status Step: 1 HP: 40/40 Flags: 0 Instinctive moves: 0

Attempt 4Against the advice of one of the death hunters, Chel had decided she would try again. She now had a vendetta and was going to see this through.

The next tile vibrated lightly under the touch of her foot, but for the most part it didn't do anything. Chel was already breathing terribly. She was going to have nightmares about this, she just knew it.
It was okay though. It was just minesweeper. There were rules.
There were rules, right?Status Step: 2 HP: 40/40 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 0

Chel decided that her best option now was to save the flag for a bit and only use it when she was REALLY dying.
So when the next tile yielded a shark tank, she decided that she was really going to die soon.Status Step: 3 HP: 20/40 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 0
