It was one of those days for Captain Buddingtonite, it seemed. While he was in uniform, he really didn't feel up to doing much of anything, and the rut he found himself in was quiet steep and quiet homey. From where he was perched on the bookstore's parapet, he looked to play the part of a drunk vagabond that found his way in a most peculiar spot, and with every customer that hurried rushed in and out of the store during the holiday rush, he kept trying to motivate himself to pick a target and fulfill his quota so that he could hurry home and drown himself in a mountain of blankets.

As heavy as the coat in his uniform was, he was not a fan of the cold weather. Never was, never will be, and he was far too disenchanted with snow after the first few weeks since his first winter here years ago to enjoy the snow that blanketed the sidewalks and streets. And if he wasn't mistaken, he could see even MORE trickles of snow threatening to fall, which mean it'd get colder...

"Guess I better pick someone." He said with a grown, forcing himself into a seated position and looking at the small crowd below. It'd have to be someone travelling alone, and leaving the store... sure, he could just barge into the store and start sapping energy as he mingled with the crowd. If he was in the mood, it would have been oh so easy, but tonight, the captain simply couldn't bother. Besides, he longed for the company of a single other, and he made his decision, as a young lady, probably her early twenties, scampered out of the store and was making her way down the street. Pretty, alone, defenseless... he could easily devote his full attention to her so long as he played on the charm, and he took a moment to straighten his hat before picking a spot to teleport, making sure to stay out of sight of his young victim until she was literally upon him.

"Come to poppa," He whispered, reappearing in the shadows and trying to think of a strong, witty comment on his approach. He had one chance, and he wasn't going to allow himself or anyone else blow it...

Sailor Chibi Massalia was still working on Henshining. Sometimes the boy forgot his pen, sometimes he lost it as boys were want to do, and sometimes - sometimes he simply forgot. But tonight he had no excuse to forget. No, today the eleven year old got away from family and friends to bound to a secret place to henshin and begin to explore and scout the City for bad guys. Not that he knew what to look for - Massalia had only seen one whole youma his entire life, and he didn't know yet what to look for, so as the young boy moved through the city and looked about, skipping from rooftop to rooftop in a jacket and cursing his shorts (He so envied Subra and her nice, thick, warm leggings!), he kept his eyes peeled and open, watching for signs of trouble.

And blinked when he spotted a man...

Teleport from nowhere near a young girl. Massalia's head tilted, and immediately he assumed something was up, and the young senshi-in-training climbed down and walked up behind one Captain Buddingtonite, all eyes and curiousity.

"Excuse me," He asked, brown eyes big. "What're you doing mister?"

Was he another knight? Was he nice?

And was he helping fight off the youma?

'It would figure...'

He dared not utter these words aloud in fear of chasing off the young lady that was quickly approaching them, though with the arrival of the Order aura it was inevitable. And what luck he had when he looked at the one that now approached him and saw that it was a Chibi senshi! Yes, fate was certainly a cruel mistress this evening, and though he wore a strained smile, there was an almost murderous look in his crimson eyes as he stared down the child soldier.

He hadn't known of this little one's Negaverse-free existence and if he had, he might have been a little nicer in hopes of fooling him and using such a thing to his advantage. Yet, his disgust of children, as well as the fear of that accursed Eternal senshi were two emotions he couldn't suppress, and he waved to the kid, making sure not to touch him and keeping his voice a hushed whisper as the lady drew closer and closer. Maybe there was still a chance to get energy tonight?

"None of your business, now scat. Go on pretending you didn't see me and I'll give you a reward..."

Massalia blinked, head tilting. He actually wasn't trying to be rude, and the young senshi blinked, expression turning to one of complete and total confusion. Did he do something wrong?

"But I saw you teleport." He said softly. If the grownup was hiding, he should be quiet. "How did you do that, Mister?"

Because God help him, he was not disrespecting a grownup. And this one was being awfully weird and confusing.

Massalia's confusion was contagious, and forgetting about the young lady that walked by, Buddingtonite turned to face him completely, giving the child a look over and not even bothering to try figure out what sphere this one had dominion over. This one certainly had some nerve to just approach him, and he let it be heard as he chided him, never once withdrawing his weapon nor daring to lay a finger on him yet.

"Hm, curious one, aren't we? Is that why you approach an officer on duty without a thought or care to your own safety? Can you not see I'm busy?"

Speaking of busy, he looked over but the young lady wasn't there! He turned his head this away and that, spotting her once again but it was too late! She had found sanctuary in a taxi, and he was certain that the sound of the door slamming wouldn't block out the curse that fell through his lips unfiltered. "Dammit!"

It took some time for him to relax his shoulders and straighten up, and once again he turned to face the Chibi that had unknowingly foiled his plans. His smile was sweet, too sweet, and anyone with a keen ear could detect the venom in his voice, "You know, you're making it really hard for me to uphold my promise with that overprotective harpee. Very well, I suppose I'll humor you."

Massalia blinked, head tilting in confusion.

"Okay... Safety?" The boy looked confused, brows knitting.

"But aren't soldiers our friends?"

Aaaand his naivete to things was showing. Visibly.

"My friends, yes... but certainly not yours," Buddingtonite said, taking just a moment to take in the environment around him and putting out feelers for any senshi or knights that might have been in the general area, then checked to see if any civilians had bothered to notice the two. The coast was clear... unfortunately for the Chibi senshi. "And seeing as you're without friends and that overprotective harpy, I think I can teach you an important lesson, one that your little cat friend foolishly forgot to teach you..."

In a sense, it was disgusting to think of just how easily the White Moon Court recruited ones so young, and in turn he should have been more compassionate one so young and naive, but there were two things about Buddingtonite that he could not deny. The first and foremost important fact was that he truly despised children, despite how reliant his business was based on their services, though with his business still under repairs, there was nothing to stop him from acting upon the impulse of his deep rooted disgust for them. Secondly, and unfortunately for the chibi, he was an opportunist and a risk-taker as well, and when the cat was away, this rat would do a little more than play.

"Now, keep your eyes on me and I'll show you another magic trick that I'm capable of!" Buddingtonite snapped his fingers to catch the child's attention and while he wasn't the best with the sleight of hand tricks that one of his employees used to dazzle the children with at Sugar Shanty, he did have this little trick mastered. He reeled his hand back, and just like that, his boomerang appeared in his hand, giving a swing and hoping to knock the chibi senshi away. "Presto!"

Easiest fight for Buddy ever? Pffft.

A grownup tricked him. A grownup tricked him.

Massalia jumped, falling backwards in surprise and made a squeaking noise at the sudden attack, the Chibi senshi on his back several moments in surprise. But.. But... Grown ups weren't supposed to be mean! The Chibi whimpered a bit, and tried to take a defensive position, brown eyes wide in alarm and surprise. But - but why?!

The confusion clouded Massalia's face, and he backed away, vaguely remembering a training exercise, once, with others, and suddenly he wished another senshi was there, or even a knight, to help him. However, without a weapon, the young senshi simply moved to defend, trying to look fierce.

"B...But... That was mean, mister!"

SAD. Massalia was SO confused!

Buddingtonite could have easily followed up on the assault when the Chibi senshi fell on his back, and any fear he might have had of the Eternal senshi that struck the fear of God within him many months ago was gone from his mind as he approached the petit enemy. But he held back, either to allow the game to play out a little longer to feed his own ego, or perhaps out of genuine sympathy for the poor senshi's naivity. All of Massalia's attempts to appear ready were scoffed by the captain, and while he kept his weapon in hand, he didn't strike at him just yet.

"Please, cut it with the Mister bit- I am a Captain of the Negaverse, not some everyday bully," Buddingtonite said, his tone sharp for a second before relaxing into a more calm yet still mocking gesture. He took one slow and steady step towards the enemy, admiring his weapon as he addressed him. "To be honest I'm a little disgusted in how you senshi of the White Moon Court run things and the one that awakened you should be ashamed of themselves. Not only did they have the nerve to awaken a child, but they left without telling you who your enemy was... tell me, who awakened you, little one? I wish to have a nice, long talk with that one."

And by talk he meant kicking around a few cats, but he'd refrain from letting that little bit of information out for now. "Answer my question, or I'll show you another magic trick and this one I don't think you'll like."

NovaCracker
LOL, pretty much! Don't worry, his own cockiness is his downfall.

This is hilarious and I think Buddy might scare Massalia away from patrolling alone a while which is amazing. XD

Massalia backed away slowly, swallowing. W..Was he being told to sell Horatio out?! But...

Oh, God. The eleven year old was so confused. And the Chibi-Senshi shakily looked around.

"But she was a kitty!" Massalia whimpered. "You shouldn't be mad! Please Captain?"

And his childhood of being raised to respect his elders refused to let him call Buddingtonite anything informal. But the Chibi was scared, and shaken, and very much going to go home and find Subra, and possibly cry. Maybe even cry on any other Senshi if he saw any ever again besides Subra.

Chibi Massalia shrank a bit, looking highly apologetic.

"I thiought the bad guys were monsters...!" Because those he could handle. Not angry grownups!

Buddingtonite arched a single red brow at Massalia's confession, and he was quick to mock the poor boy, as well as the one that recruited him, even if he didn't know his or her name. "I'm hardly mad. I'm utterly disappointed that the White Moon Court would ensure the enlisting of their officers to a feline that couldn't be bothered to give you a proper orientation. As if the very thought of recruiting children wasn't disturbing enough, leaving them to their own devices is just... downright cruel!"

Oh, he was having too much fun with this. He could see the young boy's fear and he relished in it, allowing for his defenses to drop completely and getting closer to the Chibi senshi without once threatening to strike him again, as he was merely content with keeping his attention for now. Never before did he get the chance to act upon his disgust of children and he was going to ride that boat for as long as possible! He was even willing to go down with that ship!

At Massalia's confusion, he chuckled, recalling his weapon back into the dark realm it rested in when it wasn't in use and sparing the Chibi, for the moment. "Hm, so is that what your guardian cat tells you? That the enemy are nothing more than monsters? Well, I suppose whoever this kitty is, they're not completely wrong. There are monsters lurking about the city, but who do you think command these monsters? Who do you think takes to their well being, after being transformed into such grotesque creatures? Do you think they merely operate on their own?"

And to further demonstrate this, he snapped his fingers once more, and in a puff of violet and black smoke, a creature appeared, a mix between a fiddler crab and a spider, and the moment it sensed the Senshi's presence, it rose onto its spindlely legs like a cat would arch its back and its red eyes glistened as its mandible mouth parted, drooling bubbles as it hissed. "This is my pet, Gra. Gra, don't be so rude. Say hello!"

The crab youma looked ready to lunge at the Chibi senshi, but Buddingtonite quickly grabbed him, holding him under his arm like one would a small dog, and he wagged his finger at the ornery youma. "I said 'say hello', not devour. That comes later."

NovaCracker

I cannot stop laughing my tail off now help.

Massalia blinked, still confused, even looking properly scolded - and to him, well, he was - and then...

OH GOD. Massalia's eyes went wide and he stumbled back, eying the youma warily, and he finally began fumbling in case he had something to use as a weapon, anything. Well, a trash can lid might do, but no, all he could feel was a dumpster.

"But... But why?" The eleven year old's eyes welled up with tears, as he eyed the monster. Weren't grownups supposed to help?

Oh, yes, this was definitely the most fun Buddingtonite had in a long, long time, though his conscious did attempt to chime in every once and awhile though to no avail. Gra wriggled under his hold, drooling and eager to attack the Chibi that was all but crying in front of him but unable to break from his master's hold.

"Why? Why what? Why I would allow my pet to devour your starseed?" Buddgintonite held the youma with both hands, taking a step closer and showing off Gra like a cherished chihuahua, and it had the temperament of one as well. His spider-like legs moved in air and his mismatched claws reached for the chibi senshi, snapping and chomping but hitting nothing but air. He was probably putting Gra in danger, but Buddingtonite hardly cared at the moment as he was simply having too much fun with himself. "The question is why NOT allow Gra to eat your starseed? Look at him! He's hungry, the poor dear... and I think your starseed would satisfy him for a few days."

Gra's slobbery mandibles gnashed together, hissing and gurgling, though it did nothing to drown out Buddingtonite's laughter. "I am Captain Buddingtonite of the Negaverse, little Senshi, and I am your enemy. The monsters are only the beginning of your troubles, I'm afraid."

With apologies if scared children worry or scare or otherwise annoy Gany. XD

"Because.. It isn't nice!" Massalia frowned. "It isn't nice to hurt people!"

He whimpered - he would NOT cry! He wouldn't!

"I... I just asked a question, Captain! I was just wondering how you teleported! You... You're a bad man! You're a monster!" And the Chibi Senshi made the poor choice to try kicking Buddingtonite, only he couldn't - not emotionally. He was still a grownup, and Massalia ended up kicking ground instead, moccasins protecting his feet, and he stumbled, tears forcing their way from his eyes.

Like it or not, Massalia had begun to cry.

“Buddy, Buddy, Buddy...”

A voice chimed out of the darkness, weary, discontented, like someone who'd expected so much only to be met with so little. A heavy sigh followed the quiet chant of the Captain's name, and a slim figure in white, black, and red slid gracefully into the artificial light of a streetlamp.

Eternal Sailor Ganymede leaned casually against the lamppost, her red lips twisted into something of a mocking smile as she lifted one hand to tip her miniature top-hat in greeting.

“I'm disappointed in you,” she said. She made a quick survey of the scene to assure herself that the Chibi Senshi was mostly unharmed, and though he was not entirely safe from danger she was hoping that her presence would be enough to prevent Buddingtonite from doing anything else untoward. Sometimes making a bit of a negative impression on people had its benefits.

“Here I was expecting you to keep to your word,” Ganymede continued. Her expression drifted toward something that looked exaggeratedly discouraged. “Old habits die hard, do they? It doesn't look like a promotion's done anything to change that. Big man still gotta pick on the little ones, hmm?”
