Contrary to what some might think of him, Jack wasn't a necessarily cruel person. Rather than assault Finn with both questions and information upon learning he was awake, he had allowed the Moon some extra respite. Beyond minor visitations and tidbit-sized updates about people (usually Fini), Jack kept to himself and his notes, mulling over when exactly to bother Shiloh about his . . . interesting experiences.

One thing at a time, he supposed.

Having learned by now to keep his guitar handy, he headed into the infirmary to see if he had a shift shadowing someone or not today. If not, well, he could sneak around and bother Finn anyway. At least it'd be easier to do without looking like a goddamn snowman.

"Yo, you up?"

Jack was doing it right.

Finn was vain enough to want people to actually care that he had been hospitalized, wanted them to come and see him if only to know who he could consider to be an actual friend and who could suck his proverbial balls later. What he didn't want was for the twenty ******** questions treatment, or for them to sit there and tell him how ******** stupid he was for pissing off the death lead. Didn't he know any better? Hadn't he been warned? Was he ******** proud of himself now? How stupid was he exactly?

But Jack. Jack knew how to go beyond just a good friend, into the realm of greatness. He didn't pry. He didn't call Finn stupid (because Finn already ******** knew it was stupid). He waited, gave him space, and offered him idle chit-chat whenever he happened to be on an infirmary shift, keeping him in the loop on what was going on, and not even questioning his persistent questions about whether he had killed a certain someone.

Of course, he knew that silent agreement to leave him alone couldn't last forever, and when Jack showed up with a guitar in tow, he knew instantly that this wasn't to be just another brief visit with minimal sharing of words. Sitting up a bit straighter in his bed, he tilted his head from side to side, stretching his neck, shrugging his shoulders around before answering.

"Ya. Why?"

"I'm bored of course. Can't get the last song we did out of my head either."

Jack settled into his usual chair at Finn's bedside, the guitar stretching across his lap. He idly plucked the strings, trying to compare them to the pitches in his ear for tuning.

"And making sure nobody tried stabbing you for revenge," he added casually, like it was part of the Sunday grocery shopping list. "Seems like karma's decided to give us a break, huh? How's the eye today?"

Finn's lips twitched, almost like for a second, he might smile, before they fell back into a straight line, pursed, as he gave his friend a glance over, a hand coming up to rub at his good eye afterwards, which after a few hours of use always seemed to get sore, making him spend a lot of time lying with it closed.

"Which one was that again?" He asked moving his hand down so that fingers could scratch at a stubbly chin. The moon trainee would likely never admit it, but the thought of a chance to mini jam with Jack was actually exciting, and had been the highlight of his hospital stay. He enjoyed singing probably more then anything else he did, and was his one true expression of joyful passion that he allowed to shine through, if only just occasionally.

Ignoring the stabbing for revenge comment, Finn shrugged his shoulders. "The non existent one is still non existent. Apparently Fear shields can't regrow eyeballs. Who would have thunk it?"

Sarcasm. Awesome.

"The other one hurts." He admitted. "It's strained." Did it even need anymore explanation?

And then a sigh, that sounded oddly like a growl as he ground his teeth together and asked the same question he always asked.

"Fini still alive?"

"Who'd've thunk." Jack gave a humorless smile down at his guitar as the final string was plucked and adjusted. "Hunters, sure, but still pretty human at the end of it all." That session in the classroom, the trials: it reminded him that there was no such thing as a hero in the real world. Just people with selfish desires in various ranks, deluded into this or that.

"Brought you some aspirin in case the headache comes back," he added, pulling out a small bottle of pills and placing it on the tray near Finn. He tried to keep them handy anyway, given that his withdrawal from coffee had landed him some nearly-hung over side effects. "Give it another few days or so, it won't hurt as bad. The body adapts remarkably well."

Not batting an eye at the constant question, Jack replied, "Yes," as he sat the guitar back up and hummed. "Last time, it was . . . Hell, you're lucky you don't have Van Halen screaming in your head constantly." He tapped the beat to remind himself, found the correct chord (or the closest he could remember going by his ear rather than sheet music, plucking the melody where he couldn't), and hopped right in:

I live my life like there's no tomorrow
And all I've got I had to steal
Least I don't need to beg or borrow
Yes, I'm living at a pace that kills

Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
I'll tell y'all about it

"Ya and to be human is to err, or some bullshit." Not that Finn believed, even now, that he had done anything wrong. Not in the trials, not afterwards when he had stood up for his actions against a complete psycho. Faced with the same situation, to save himself and many others with the life of one, he would still do it. Faced with the decision to admit his mistakes or make the argument that he had done what was necessary, he would still argue that he'd done what was necessary.

Maybe. Okay, probably not if faced with explaining himself to the death lead again. Not if he wanted to survive, at least. He had at least learned that one small lesson.

"Aw why thank you, Nurse Jackie." He gave the other man one of his famous smiles that were utterly void of any true emotion. b]"You forgot to wear your cute little hat. Do I get a sponge bath, next?" He gave the pills on the tray a glance, tempted to take them now to stave off what was sure to come later.

"Hrm, well, if you see her again, let her know her phone is broken." He was sure it wasn't, but the fact remained that she still hadn't bothered to text him back a single time since he'd been admitted to the hospital. At this point, he was pretty sure it was her way of telling him things were over, but that didn't mean he was going to let up on the harassment. He deserved to at least have her tell him to his face.

When the music began, the sound of it was uplifting enough to have Finn sitting up a bit straighter in his bed, his hands lifting so that index fingers could tap out a beat against the edge of the tray. He staved off from adding his own voice to Jack's, letting the other man sing, until he got to the chorus of course, and then Finn joined in as well.

"Runnin with the devil"

His eye had closed, his head bobbed up and down to the beat. If ever he doubted Jack's friendship, it was moments like these that reminded him that the other man was capable of the action, no matter how he typically behaved on other occasions.

When the song came to it's end, he opened his eye, a more genuine smile on his face, even if the enjoyment wasn't visible in his perpetually emotionless gaze. "As much as I enjoy the classics, do you happen to know anything a bit more modern?"
