But this wasn't a story or snapshot about what was going on outside. This particular story would begin inside Deus Ex, away from the cold and snow. Within the relative safety of the Pod Room, one of its occupants would begin to stir. Usually a sleeper would awaken with small movements; a twitch of a finger, the flutter of their eyelashes. For one particular hunter, it would begin with the flick of an ear. Now that's odd, a part of the sleeper's brain would say. No it isn't, would return the part of the dreamer's brain would reply. It's totally cool. This is all right.The sleeper would then settle back and wait to drift back to sleep. And yet, the part of the sleeper's brain continued to insist that something wasn't right. His legs were aching, and his arms were feeling cold. He shifted aside, freezing as a loud thunk reverberated. What was that.He tried to move his head. He couldn't. The sleeper would then finally awaken, blinking and staring at the dim outer world. Click when a dainty little hoof as it rose to tap against the class. Click.Click.Clickclickclickclickclick --Welcome to Deus Ex, Tobias B. DeLorean. Maybe someone will realize that a deer doesn't belong in a sleeping pod and let you out. Maybe.

Not like a Lord of the Ring elf, we're talking about a tiny, derpy little elf with a cute jingling hat, striped stockings, and green tights. - Rolling a 4: You are a reindeer. Like, a reindeer. Not an anthro one or student form, just a deer. You can still talk, you're just a deer. Also you look really stupid in a coat - Rolling a 5: You are a Christmas tree because there is no such thing as mercy. You are literally a walking, talking Christmas tree. You might also have ornaments. You can walk, well sort of, by hopping. - Rolling a 6: You are a snow angel. You look pretty much like a regular snow sculpture except you have wings. And sort of resemble yourself. Sort of. But with wings. - ** In the event you choose not to rp with this status effect, you can just skip the timeframe and carry on. Nobody has to know.

Unfortunately for whoever was in the pod, the other person in the room was having a very hard time pressing the necessary buttons to actually open the pod in question.
There was a series of frustrated and vaguely cinnamonish growls as the realization that Gale currently did not have fingers came terribly into view.

If he had hands, Tobias would have given his would-be rescuer a thumbs up. Given that his antlers had jammed his head in an awkward position, the only thing he could do was stare encouragingly at the... What was that. A soft grumble came from his stomach. Tobias looked on his would-be rescuer with a new glint in his eye, one that was full of hope and... maybe it would be better to not make direct eye contact, Gale. Trust me.

This was an appropriate time for a snow angel to come save the day right.
She actually hadn't meant to be in the labs except to maybe take a peek at the new people in (and maybe give Finn a courtesy visit), but one could say her Gale senses were tingling. Or Stormy happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Either way, she found herself staring at a reindeer oggling her boyfriend. Uh oh.
"Hey! Whoawhoawhoa, nice new recruit! Hi!" She waddled right in, waving her arms and flapping her useless wings to get the poor guy's attention. "Hiiiiii~! Oh boy, you picked a time to pop out . . . Um, please don't eat him!"

When Stormy came storming in, she managed to catch Tobias' attention. However, upon discovering that his head was now jammed in one place and he couldn't jerk back in surprise or tilt his head to one side in confusion, Tobias instead stared at her. And tried to give her a Look.

Oh . . . yikes, this was probably an even worse introduction to reality than she imagined most would ever wake up to. Stormy gave him a sympathetic look and stepped forward. "Right, um . . . So! This is a very awkward introduction, but welcome to Deus!"
Poor guy probably thought everything was a patchwork of holiday cheer gone wrong. If only that was the extent of it.
Gently as she could, she leaned to the side and plucked Gale from the ground so he wasn't in danger of getting stepped on. Then she lightly patted the glass of the guy's pod, trying to comfort him. "Okay, deep breaths. On the count of three, I'm going to push this button over here and you'll get out, no harm no foul. Then we'll explain everything. But you gotta promise me not to freak out, okay?" Pause. "Um, blink twice if you promise!" They really didn't need a panicking reindeer newbie in the pod room after all . . .

The trapped deer's eyes followed Gale as he was moved to the relative safety of the snow angel. When he was moved behind her back, the deer shifted its gaze onto the snow angel. He glanced down at the ground, back to her, then blinked twice.
Click click click, went his little hoofsies against the pod door.

Sorry, newbie, he just looked kind of darling in that cute animal way. Blinking out of her reverie, Stormy leaned to the side, perused the buttons, and pressed the correct one before stepping back.
"So you might be a little woozy," she explained happily, settling Gale on her shoulder so that both hands were free in case the new guy needed help . . . adjusting to four legs. "I promise you're not gonna stay like that forever! Sometimes we have funny things happen, like in the labs and stuff, and boom: you get a funny side effect."

WHUMP!Stormy's cautions were lost on him as Tobias fell face-first out of the pod and onto the floor, landing on the side of his face and chest. He was still for a moment before his back legs began to wiggle, then wiggle harder until he managed to fall over then scramble to his clippy-clop teensy-weensy hooves. The reindeer reared up on his hind legs and planted his hooves on Stormy's shoulders, looking into her wide eyed. "Where am I? What happened? What year is it?!"

She blinked owlishly and staggered a little as the reindeer leaned on her, but at least she managed not to fall over (barely). "2013," Stormy clarified with a smile, stroking Gingergale's head sympathetically. "Deeeeep breaths, new guy, we'll explain like I promised. Just, um . . ."
Carefully she grasped his legs and tried to set him back down on all fours. "This is Deus Ex Machina," she began in her best tour guide voice. "Think of it as a secret island military! It's hazy right now, but in a few days you'll remember what happened up until you hit the pods: basically you got put into a trial to see if you had the guts and, well, here you are!" She even gave jazz hands to pep things up. "Welcome!"

2013?! "Great Scott!" Tobias announced as he was dropped onto all fours, the motion catching him off guard and prompting him to become intimately close to the floor once again. He managed to stand on his hooves, ears perked at Gale's dark mutter. "It's alive! And it speaks!" He tried to skirt around the giant snow angel to stare at Gale, doing his best not to lick his li- oops, there he went why did Gale smell so tasty?The snow angel continued to speak, and Tobias looked up at her. "Deus Ex Whatina? Secret island? What's so --" he stopped, looking down at himself. "...I think I see why it's so secret. I mean, I'm pretty sure I was on a spiritual enlightenment hike or whatever. Does this mean my spirit animal's a... Horse?" He lifted a hoof and shook it. "Or am I a pony?"
