Honey woke to the scent of a coming storm on the air. She stuck her head out of her refuge (a hollow under a big old fallen oak tree) and sniffed cautiously. The wind was heavy with the promise of rain, and what few patches of sky she could make out through the thick tree canopy above were dark and gray. "Well, that's not good," she murmured to herself, tapping one claw to her lower lip as she thought. Her little hollow was snug and warm, but she was pretty sure that if it rained more than a little it would flood. Not fancying being cold and wet, she scrambled out of her warm den and thought about where to go. The land here sloped down to the river below, which might already be flooding if it had rained in the mountains last night. But uphill was a ridgeline with high stony cliffs... Come to think of it, there might be a cave up there! Yes, a nice dry cave sounded like just the ticket. But cave floors were hard and cold. Frowning slightly, Honey looked around and spied the emerald moss that grew all over her former home. That would be warm and cushy to sleep on. Using her claws, Honey tugged and scraped and pulled until she'd removed several big, thick sheets of moss from the ancient trunk and draped them over her back. Satisfied that she had a good bed in store if she could find shelter, she started trundling up the hill. The little Teddiursa snuffled along the base of the ridge, looking in every hole that she thought she could fit in, looking for a cave that looked spacious enough to be comfortable, but whose floor was raised enough that she thought the rain wouldn't come in. By now, the wind had picked up, and she was getting pretty nervous; big limbs were falling all around in the forest and one of those would definitely hurt if it landed on her. She picked up her pace, jogging along the rock face and cowering a little every time the thunder crashed in the distance or the trees creaked too loud in the wind. There! The wind was howling in the trees and she could hear the approaching rain, not to mention the rolling thunder- but that last flash of lightning had illuminated a large, dark shape against the cliff ahead. Finally, a cave! Tumbling inside just as the rain started to fall, Honey was relieved to find the cave empty. Setting out her mat of moss in the back of the cave, she curled up on it and sighed tiredly as she watched the wind blow and rain fall outside. Before she knew it, the tired little teddiursa had fallen fast asleep, snug in her warm cave and safe from the storm.

Rose had also noticed the storm coming, but was less worried about herself getting wet. She had long ago mastered the use of Protect to create a shielding bubble around herself, which she could maintain indefinitely in order to keep herself safe and dry. But her newly-planted rose bushes were a bit of a concern. She flew around to each one, checking that each one was planted firmly and using Grass Knot to help tie them down and try to prevent them from blowing over or washing away. She finished up just as the rain began to fall, and turned to head back towards the caves across the stream. But surprisingly, she spied a small brown shape heading into the largest of the caves. Curious, she flew over and peeked inside.
A Teddiursa was curled in the back of the cave, on a bed of moss that had not been there this morning. It seemed the little bear was dozing off already, since her eyes were closed and her sides rose and fell in the deep, steady breathing of sleep.
The rain was falling harder now, so Rose flew into the cave and sat down by one wall. She kept watching the Teddiursa, though. On closer inspection, the moss seemed to be a large mat of the stuff that was freshly gathered, since wet soil still clung to the roots on the underside. There wasn't any moss in such large pieces nearby, so the other pokemon must have brought it with her. What a good idea! I wonder if I could get more of that for the other caves, Rose thought to herself. Oh, but some pokemon might prefer the plain dirt floor. Hmm, maybe try and plant or cultivate some moss nearby so they'd have a ready supply if anyone wanted it? She settled against the wall and mused over possible ideas as the rain continued to fall.

Honey slept on for a good little while as the wind howled and the rain fell until a particularly sharp clap of thunder had her up on her paws with a startled grunt, looking around in alarm with all her fur standing up. Her gray eyes swept the cave, going over Rose twice without seeming to see her at first. It was obvious when the pink shape of the mew finally registered, however, as Honey's eyes snapped to her and she sat down with a sneeze of surprise.
"Who are you?" she asked with a small, confused frown, then shook her head and rubbed her eyes with a paw as the fog of sleep started to clear. "I mean, I'm sorry. This is your cave, isn't it? My name's Honey. I just needed somewhere to hide from the storm, I didn't realize anyone lived here."
Looking up, she gave the strange pink pokemon what she hoped was a friendly smile rather than nervous as she felt. "Um... can I please stay until the storm's gone?"

Rose had been staring off into space when the thunder made her jump in surprise. She looked around briefly, reassured herself that it was only the sound of the weather, then noticed the Teddiursa was up a moment before the bear spoke.
"It's OK, no need to be sorry," Rose assured her. "You can stay as long as you want. I made this place for pokemon to live in," she responded cheerily. "Oh, and my name's Rose," she added, somewhat belatedly answering Honey's first question.
Then she scooted towards Honey and leaned closer to look at the moss. "Did you bring that with you? It's such a great idea! I may have to bring more moss for the other caves, especially if I can get it to grow there. Unfortunately I don't think I know any moves to boost plant growth, so we might have to try general gardening and hope it sticks," she chattered eagerly.

Honey tilted her head, smiling slightly at Rose's friendly demeanor. "Well, I don't know much about plants, but I can show you where I got the moss at least if that'll help. It's a hike, but there's lots of it."
Her stubby tail switched slightly in curiosity as she observed the strange pink pokemon. "I don't think I've ever met anyone like you before," she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her. "You built this place? I wouldn't have taken you for a rock-type. Do you have many guests?"
Suddenly realizing that she was being rude, Honey interrupted her own tirade by clapping her paws over her snoot. "I'm sorry," she mumbled sheepishly around her paws. "I'm asking a million questions, I should give you time to answer."

"No, no, questions are fine," Rose answered, waving her paws placatingly. "I like questions. You probably haven't seen a pokemon like me because there's not many of us. I'm a Mew, and you're right, I'm not a Rock-type. I'm a Psychic!" She stood up and turned around a couple times so Honey could get a good look at her, then sat down again.
"I know lots of attacks though, like Dig and Rock Slide, which I used to help shade these caves and the area outside. There's a stream out there, but I dug a pool in it in case any pokemon want to go swimming. And I planted some bushes and there's some trees on the hill..." as she explained the features of her home, she gestured with her paws and tail to indicate the size and position of them. "I could show you around once the storm's over," she offered.
"Oh, and a bit of a hike to get the moss is no problem for me. I can fly and teleport! So we could grab some and be right back here in a jiffy!" She floated up into the air and zipped around the cave for a moment, then hovered near Honey again. But she quickly decided that looking down at the other pokemon would be rude and sat back down again.
"As for guests, not many yet. I want to invite lots of pokemon to live here, but so far I've only met you and Delibird, I'm not sure if I should look for pokemon to invite or wait for them to find this place," she mused.

Honey watched the Mew flit around with eyes wide and jaw hanging open in outright awe. "Wow! You're amazing! I wish I could do that," she said with a grin, not really jealous but definitely intrigued. "It looks like a lot of fun!"
Absently licking the pad of one forepaw that still tasted like her namesake from her last meal, she thought over the Mew's conundrum for several long moments. Finally she shrugged. "If you wait, you could be waiting a long time. This place isn't easy to find. I'd go find pokemon to invite, but that's just me. You want to be careful, though, some Pokemon aren't very nice. I don't think you'd want them to know how to find this place."
She looked up at Rose, her round ears perking a bit in interest. "Do you know where to find some more pokemon to ask? And what's Delibird like?"

Rose giggles at Honey's reaction to her flight. "Well, I can pick things up and make them float around," she said. She demonstrated by pointing at a pebble (the pointing was entirely unnecessary for telekinesis, and mainly just to direct Honey's attention to the stone), which immediately took on a fain pink aura. It lifted into the air, then flew around on loops for a moment before she put it back down. "...So if you want I could float you around sometime," Rose continued. "It'd be almost like flying, though I'd have to chose where you went instead of you."
She listened to the suggestion about finding more pokemon, and nodded, "Yeah, I want to make sure everyone who stays here will be nice to the other pokemon." Thinking of the Delibird, she added, "Or at least civil. Grumpy is OK as long as they're not mean or harmful or anything. The Delibird's kind of grumpy, but I haven't gotten a chance to talk to her much. She doesn't seem bad, so hopefully she'll warm up after a while. Even though she's an Ice-type," she added, giggling at her little joke.
Her face grew thoughtful as she considered the idea of going to look for pokemon. "There are pokemon all over the place. I could always look for places where pokemon are likely to gather, like streams, but the hard part may be finding pokemon that are willing to leave where they currently live. Pokemon living alone or wandering might be happier to move in here, but harder to find." She folded her arms and hummed thoughtfully. "It's a puzzle," she finally said.

Honey shrugged again with an affable grin. "It doesn't sound like anything a little hard work and patience won't solve. I'll be happy to help, if you want. "Let me see, it sounds like you've got all kinds of shelter for various types. You've done a lot to make it inviting. Water's covered... Is there food here? If so, it won't be too hard to find pokemon willing to live here, at least for awhile." She tilted her head as a question occurred to her. "Why did you do all this? It sounds like you've been doing a lot of work to make a sanctuary."

Rose nodded at Honey. "Yup, there's food! There some berry bushes among the trees, and some of the plants up there might have nuts or edible roots. I could always bring in more edible plants to plant, too," she offered enthusiastically. She would have to figure out where there were good plants to get, preferable ones that wouldn't bother anyone if she took them, but she was sure she could find some.
Honey's next question interrupted her thoughts. "A sanctuary?" Rose repeated. "Oh, that's a nice word. I was kind of thinking "garden" though, especially since I planted the rose bushes. As for why...well, I just want friends!" she chirped. "It got lonely wondering around, so I wanted to make a nice place where some more pokemon would want to live with me."

Honey's tail switched happily at that idea. "A garden sounds lovely. I like that better- a sanctuary makes it sound like there's something to hide from, now that I think about it, and there isn't really, is there. And I'd love to make some more friends!" She itched her nose with one long claw as she thought about the edible plants thing. "Well, it sounds like you're pretty well covered for food, but if you want I can help you look for edible plants while we're out looking for more people to invite. You're probably better at knowing what's good than I am, being a gardener and all," she said with a grin, "But I can at least help carry."

Rose giggled at being called a gardener. "I don't really know much about growing plants, though the Delibird seems to. But I have traveled around enough to know some that are good to eat, so maybe we can gather seeds or something and figure out how to plant them. Or berries, or roots. I think I heard once that if you stick a potato in water with the top sticking out, it'll start to sprout." She turned to look out at the rain falling outside the cave. "I wonder when the rain will end. I kind of want to start looking now!"

mewrose Rain can stop whenever you want, far as I'm concerned. Honey looked out at the rain that was still falling in sheets, her nose twitching as she took another thoughtful lick of her pawpad. It was still raining hard, but the weather could change quickly around here, especially with powerful storms like this. It was really hard to tell. "Hmm. I'm not sure. But while we're waiting for it to stop we can make plans. Liiike..." she paused as she mulled it over, tapping her bottom lip with one long, gray claw. "Well, have you heard of anyone living nearby you'd like to invite to come stay here? Or would you rather go looking for new plants first?" The small teddiursa gave her new friend a mildly mischievous grin. "What sounds more exciting?"

"Hmm..." Rose hugged her knees and rocked a bit as she answered, thinking aloud. "Well, looking for pokemon to invite does sound more exciting...but they'd probably be more likely to join if we had more food available." She drummed her little fingers thoughtfully and added, "and after all this rain, plants would probably be easy to dig up if we wanted to try transplanting them."
She turned an ear towards the cave mouth. Was the rain slowing down a but, or was that wishful thinking?

Honey shrugged. "That seems practical," she agreed. "We can take a day or two and gather some more plants to spruce up the place even more, and then nobody will be able to resist coming here to stay, or at least to visit!" She giggled at the thought, her tuft of a tail switching side to side a little in enthusiasm. She glanced up to the cave entrance, rounded ears cupped forward. "You know, I think it's actually slacking off a bit. If it stops we might be able to go ahead and get started on that. I don't mind getting a little muddy if it's for a good cause." Her impish grin would seem to imply that playing in said fun squishiness was plenty good enough of a cause, but the teddiursa left that unsaid.
