It was easier to dig through the deep snow as a bear. Her stocky stature brought her nose closer to the ground and allowed her to sniff out the meal she'd left buried long ago. She rarely ate a whole meal from one carcass. It was far more satisfying to roam about and remember her kills as she gnawed on the hard flesh and bones.
Today the wind was still and the air calm. Once her belly was full on cold leftovers she planned to head down the mountain and begin seeking out fresh prey. It was easier to lure prey up to her lair when she could be patient, and it was easier to be patient on a full belly.
Lost in thought and comfortable in her own home, she wasn't playing the closest attention to the world around her. After all, it had been years since anyone had been stupid enough to wander into her lair without a bit of coaxing.

Usually a creature of habit, it was strange to see Akuma anywhere but in the thick of a great forest where the sun warmed his fur and there was prey aplenty. But the Winter had driven all the forest critters into their safe holes and it was so hard to find good eats when they all hid like that. And so he had followed his nose out into the snow, the cold biting at his pelt until he shifted, preferring the thicker pelt and sharpened sense of smell of his wolf form. In the great white blanket of mountain snow, he was nearly invisible, the glint of his eyes and the occasional flash of his ink tipped tails the only indication that he was there at all. He could smell…something, he wasn't quite sure what it was, everything was cold, but there was definitely something. His stomach growled and he frowned, his whiskers stiff with frost. Rarely did he let himself stay hungry, he was quite fond of food and usually very prompt with meals. His long pink tongue brushed over his chops, perhaps a bit of rabbit would run by, maybe a poor billy goat, he had always enjoyed a good bit of goatflesh.
But alas, nothing of the sort came by his path, and so he continued to follow the strange scent until finally he sighted the dark mouth of a cave a little ways up, he pricked his ears, straining to hear if anything was home. Maybe there was, but who would really fight a purewalker on the matter of an empty belly? Not many. He padded up and peered in, sniffing around until he found what he had been scenting, in the corner of the cave, rimmed with frost was a half eaten corpse. He wrinkled his nose " leftovers" he muttered. Ah but it was better than nothing, and he had never tried "frozen" food before, all things must be tried, tested and tasted.
He was usually far more wary about entering someones cave and eating their food, but he was too hungry to give a damn. It was only leftovers after all- He tore at the carcass, his sharp teeth sliding cleanly through - it had been well preserved. It was only after the first couple bites that he even scented the other, farther back in the cave, he had been too preoccupied with the food to notice before, but he lifted his head and stared into the darkness, his twin tails held high, on alert. He wasn't sure what he was smelling exactly, but whatever it was, it was big, and possibly trouble.

Jenu was still gnawing away at the bone when the sound of a visitor woke her from her daydream. Grunting, she hauled herself backwards out of the hole and was immediately assaulted by the smell of another carnivore. She grunted again. Having her head down a hole had muffled her sense of smell. Oh, well. She shuffled forward toward the entrance of the cave. There was a wolf there, larger than average. It would make a good meal.
The sunlight streaming in hit it's muzzle and she caught sight of bits of frozen flesh and snow in his whiskers. Her fur bristled. He'd been eating her food. Her kills. A growl escaped her before she forced herself to calm down a bit. Soon enough, just give it a bit of time and he'd be freezing here with the rest of them.
"Hello there. You must be quite hungry to gnaw at a frozen corpse."

His hackles rose, the fur along the entire length of his spine standing on end as he caught sight of the lumbering thing that apparently lived here. A bear. He had never seen a bear before, they didn't frequent the woods he normally dwelled in, so he'd never really had to bother with them, or worry about squabbling over choice prey. He sniffed and swallowed down the glob of frozen meat he had been chewing on before she, and it was definitely a she bear, had walked in on him. He would at least answer her, as it seemed like she wasn't going to attack him, at least not just yet. He flicked his tails behind him and replied to her in a clipped tone " Well, i'm not sure if you've seen the weather outside kuma kin, but there's very little in the way of prey out in a frozen waste such as that. Though I usually have better taste than frozen fare, it was just laying around." A light shiver rain right to his tail tips, but he shook it off, luckily, as a wolf he had some immunity to cold, his kind well used to the elements. If she was waiting for him to freeze here, she was sadly mistaken. "I wasn't entirely sure if there was someone living here" He curled his lip " and trust me when I say that I don't normally waltz into bear dens."

She moved closer and the light from the cave entrance glittered against the icicles which had formed on her fur.
"It would be something just left laying about in this barren climate, wouldn't it. It would be unthinkable that anyone would intentionally collect such a cache for their own benefit. A good thing too. Wouldn't it be so rude to eat someone else's kill without first asking?" she drew in a deep breath. As it escaped through clenched teeth it formed a thick mist. "You are fortunate, that I am so generous," she can't help but growl a bit along with the last few words.
"It must be so tough to chew. I dragged a kill down deeper into my cave just last night. It's still... soft," lies through and through. Any experienced tracker would have noticed the lack of fresh drag marks outside the cave. Jenu should have known that, but she was hungry.

Akuma had been born a wolf, but the majority of his bloodthirsty family was made of foxes, and like the fox, his mind was sharp, and he was certainly not stupid enough to fall for whatever this bear was trying to pull. " Somehow I doubt your sense of…what was it now? " Generosity?" He shook himself from the water that was dampening his fur " I am a great lover of food kuma kin, and I know a fresh kill when I smell one, and you know - I don't smell a thing. So you'll have to forgive me for staying right here and not going any deeper into that death pit you call home." He curled his lips over his great maw full of shiny white teeth, a mockery of a smile. He was faster in this form, but much stronger in his true one, if she attacked he knew he could evade - such played out most meetings between purewalkers, murderous fuzzballs through and through. He had no plans to stick around or have any friendly tussles with a bear - he was faster, and could possibly hold her off for a time, but bears were heavier, stronger and she was on her home turf. Coming in here hadn't been the wisest decision, but he was done flying by the tips of his tails.

She growled as she continued her approach. That had been little more than a series of stupid mistakes on her part, but the best thing to do would be blame it on the hunger and mull over it later while gnawing on some fresh wolf.
"Oops," she teased, voice growing unusually gentle. "You've seen right through me, now haven't you. Just as well, I'm not in the mood to play with my food right now anyways," she lunged, holding her bear form for the time being. It was just a wolf, after all. A large wolf, but nothing she shouldn't be able to over power. If it did prove to be too much, well, she had a nasty surprise for him.
As she grew near she lowered her body, intending to slam every last ounce of her weight directly into him.

His ears flattened on his skull and let a rumbling growl rise from deep his his throat to trickle through his bared fangs. The she bear fairly radiated a killing aura, he didn't have to be terribly observant to see that she meant him some serious harm. Well there went all the niceties. He waited until he saw the muscles bunch in her great hulking form to dart to the side, just nearly avoiding her slashing paws and great teeth. His claws scrabbled for purchase on the slick stone of the cave floor. " Well you're a terrible hostess anyway." He hissed, his fangs still shiny and bared at her, he could change skins and go for her neck, perhaps the surprise would be enough for him to win. this was most definitely not worth the frozen meal, but perhaps if he killed her he could take her skull back as a great trophy, set it in a place of honor atop the skull pyramid he'd collected back at home. Could he risk such a thing though? He was not one for taking many chances, his brothers were far better at luck with such things. He could loose her easily in the snow outside, being nearly all white had it's advantages for sure. He had to think fast as he dodged her heavy swipes and gnashing teeth. He could even tire her out, but how long would that take. So many risks, so little time.
