Deus was starting to become an unfamiliar place. On the surface it was much the same, buildings and runes and always tension. They lived on the pulse of danger, even while 'secure' in their own places - dorms or houses or basements - they were never truly safe. But there was always a guise of it in the past. There was always training groups on the fields and Lifers rushing around the labs and the bustling cafeteria full of people bonded over the same disappointment in the food. But now there was blatant murder. There were public betrayals of leaders. There was some sort of underground organization who was taking their feud on Deus out on hunters, some who were barely adults (and had barely been here long), with the same gruesome intensity as his gasmask trial... without the safety of golems and pods. Bix wasn't sure that he felt safe when their broadcasts reached his phone.. his TV.. his computer. Could he even feel safe in his own division? Rep was still alive and as far as he knew still in Sun division and still with a weapon. Could he feel safe on the battlefield with a straight up murderer of his fellows (though apparently the 'murdered' was still alive too). Bix had a gap in his duties and his training had been done for the day. He went to find Gale. His bro was in Death.. maybe he knew more? He'd been in that publicly televised death trap. Bix knew he was okay, they did talk regularly (Deus wasn't a big place after all) but they hadn't had a real chat in a while. He was leaning against the wall near Gale's makeshift office. He'd knocked lightly but there was no answer so he'd shot him a text to meet up instead. Text to Gale Hey swung by your office. Meet up? kurotomato Sorry it took my a couple days -_-;;

Gale was, in fact, actually physically present in his office, but whether he was mentally present remained to be seen.
The text came when he was leaning over the papers on his desk, which were scattered haphazardly here and there; a complete mess, rather unlike his usual orderly stacks and carefully organized notes. Several things were circled in red, and there were little annotations in the margins of one notebook in particular, just beside a rather crude drawing of a snake eating its own tail.
Gale glanced at the phone, picked it up, and made a slight face of surprise. He set it back down again, pushed away from his desk with a squeak, and made his way to the door of the office, where he pulled it open to find a familiar white-haired hunter standing just outside.
"You could've knocked," Gale said lightly, gesturing for Bix to come inside.

"Heh.. sorry.. Closed doors." Bix had an open door policy so if a door was closed sometimes he just assumed. Like an idiot. Bix slipped inside and took the freedom of closing the door behind him. If anyone else was like him, hopefully they wouldn't bother if the door was closed. A quick glance around the room made the OCD in Bix throw a minor mental tantrum, but the Sun hunter's common sense told him perhaps Gale was just as stressed, if not more so, than he was. "How's goin?" He said casually, picking up a few fallen sheets of paper and glancing at them as he sat in a spare chair. He slid the papers back to the desktop without too much nosey poking. "Glad you're okay.." From the crazy death trial on the phones. There were definitely things Bix wasn't asking or saying, by his expression, but he was getting the pleasantries out of the way.

It had been a while since he'd last seen him, but in spite of the distance, Bix was still the best mate he had on the island. Gale sat back down in his chair and swiveled a bit back and forth. His eyes flickered towards the papers strewn across his desk and then back towards Bix.
" 'Okay' is a relative term," he said dryly, and sighed, a long breath escaping his throat. "It's been a crazy couple of days."
Leaning back in his chair, Gale leaned against his desk, pulling off the reading glasses from his nose. "How are you?" he asked. "I haven't seen you around lately. You still kickin?"

Bix double handed slapped himself in the chest like an ape. "Yep still kicking. You're okay after the uhh.. what I can only call Gasmask Trials volume 2 ?" He tilted his head. Thankfully in this trial Gale made it through.. unlike the last. "To be honest this whole place seems to be going to hell and.." Bix frowned, the upbeat facade slowly slipping away like an easily discarded halloween mask. "..even if we were never really safe, I feel more vulnerable than ever."

Gale just rolled his eyes. "Bugger," he said in exasperation. "Sorry I asked, good grief."
But the expression on his face shifted, turned downwards slightly, and he sighed, Gale shuffling through some of the papers on his desk. "Yeah, tell me about it," he muttered, shaking his head. "I already had to go through the trials once, and then they bloody made us go back and do them again."
He hadn't heard Bix this worried in a long time. In fact, Gale could not remember the last time Bix was this anxious, barring the time he had "died." He tilted his head, slanting a concerned gaze towards his friend.
"You okay?" he asked quietly. "Did something happen? I mean," he amended, "something other than the trials?"

"It's not enough?" Bix sighed in slight exasperation. "Putting people through death trials, division leads turning traitor, titans roaming the island, the fog gone.." He waved his hands, indicating that the list could go on and on. "It's getting to me I think." He just wanted something to normalize. Whether it be the fog returning or having reliable power on the island, or allowing portals for things besides missions. There was a pause as he rubbed his eyes. He seemed tired and now, in the florescent lighting of Gale's office, slight circles could be seen around his eyes. "Do you know anything..?" Not paltry s**t that everyone knew. Gale was in intelligence and that's what Bix was looking for.

"No, you're right," said Gale with a small sigh. "It's a miracle none of us have gone absolutely batshit nutty," he added, casting a sideways glance at Bix. "Though to be fair, some of us are still just as nutty without having to add anything to it."
Gale swiveled in his chair to face Bix, one leg sliding over the other. He tapped a pen against the desk. "I know that Charlotte's...not dead," he said, after a long moment, a dark expression on his face. "She's...well, not quite anything anymore, I suppose. Switched sides, just like Aria, it seems, except less extreme."

"So.. are the traitors all with the O people?" Bix didn't know if they had a proper name but everyone called them the O hunters. He leaned forward, interested a bit in them. It wasn't a 'turn traitor' sort of interest but the way he propped his hand under his chin, he clearly wanted info. Gale may not have even had it but Bix was interested.

"Maybe," said Gale. He sounded frustrated. "I know this information is all right here in front of me, but I can't seem to make heads or tail of anything, which is the most annoying part."
He shuffled a few of the papers on his desk. "All I know for certain is that none of the Ouroboros people are to be trusted at all, whatever the case may be. They have this fantastical, idealistic view of a 'perfect place,' some sort of Utopia where everything's all fine and dandy."
Gale rubbed his brow. "None of it makes any sense."
