Kaoru set down the box of mistletoe cuttings the Hitachiin brothers had brought in as they entered the club room during lunch. It was the only time they knew the others wouldn't be there and it was the only way they could set all their planned booby traps without anyone else being aware.
"I wonder who will set off the first one," Kaoru mused, raising a ribbon-tied sprig to see how he could hang it above a club couch. "How much do you want to be it'll be Tono?" he asked his brother.

Hikaru felt behind the couch cushions to figure out where to place the trigger. "Is a bet even fair when it's almost guaranteed Tono will be the first?" He chuckled, pleased with their plan so far. "Hey, how about we get Haruhi under one to lure him to it, then switch her with Kyouya-senpai at the last second? It would be extremely amusing... except I don't know what Kyouya-senpai would do to us afterward."
As he paused to think about the consequences, the elder twin watched his brother with the mistletoe. "...Perhaps he won't mind as much because of how happy it'll make the clients?"

The younger twin laughed at the suggestion, imagining the scenario in full detail. "Yeah, I'm not sure it would be worth risking his wrath. He might wait until the clients were gone, but if they were to like it enough, he might be forced to do something like that again. It'd be unforgivable." Kaoru shook his head with a small smile.
"..But Hikaru," he continued, laughter dying down to more serious tones, "...how would you feel?" Turning his golden gaze on his older brother, he regarded him critically. "If Tono actually kissed Haruhi, I mean. ...Would you...be okay with it?"

Hikaru's mouth briefly hardened into a thin line, before he quickly put on their normal mask of indifference. "Of course, what would it matter anyway? It's all just silly fun to pass the time." He turned to smirk at his brother. "Besides, we'll make sure it doesn't actually happen. That's half the joke, no matter who we end up switching Haruhi out for. Now come on, let's get the ladder so we can reach the ceiling."

"I guess so," Kaoru answered, his smile a little helpless. Still in denial, it seemed. He seemed lost in thought as he went to fetch the ladder. Hikaru had agreed to set the switches while it was Kaoru's job to hang up the mistletoe sprigs that would drop down upon being triggered.
They each had to be strategically placed so neither hosts nor guests would know where they would fall from. There were 30 to be set up all around the room, but the twins were fairly certain they could get them finished before the end of the lunch bell. If not, well...what was the problem with being a little tardy? Not like they had a perfect record like Haruhi.
Speaking of... "If we're late to class, do you think Haruhi will suspect something?" he chuckled. "You know how attentive she is."

Hikaru shrugged in response, although a corner of his mouth did quirk up in a hint of a fond smile. "I think if we came in on time she would still suspect something. The key is just to make sure she doesn't know exactly what to expect, and so can't alert the others. Or at least, can't alert Tono and our guests."
He moved around the room in tandem with his twin, sometimes leading with the setup of one of the switches, sometimes following where Kaoru put up mistletoe, and often both choosing a spot at the same time. Really, how did other people get through their days without having a twin to make things enjoyable and to work in such effective harmony with? It was nice, knowing that there was one person in the world who would always get him and be there for him. Although, sometimes, Haruhi also seemed to get him...
He glanced at Kaoru, trying to refocus on the task at hand. "How many traps are left now?"

"Sounds like a plan," Kaoru agreed. As they continued to pick out new places for their prank, he found himself wondering what Hikaru was thinking about. His twin was strangely quiet for most of it. Before it used to be so easy to read him; what was on his face or by his actions. Ever since Haruhi came into the picture, though, it was difficult to tell what his older brother did - or didn't - think of certain things, particularly her.
"I think there's just a few more," he responded to Hikaru's question, leaning over to peer at the contents of the box from the ladder. "Around three. Maybe we can put one over the doorway over there. The one that leads to the Black Magic Club," he suggested deviously. "Or one over the piano if Tono decides to play. We can have one of the keys trigger it."
He tapped his chin thoughtfully. "Why don't we send a few anonymous invites out for this club's session? The more the merrier, right? After all, it wouldn't be as much fun if there weren't enough unwary guests to set all of them off." Sneering, he continued, "We know Renge will be there, but we could also invite Bossanova and maybe the class rep."

Hikaru grinned at Kaoru's suggestions. "Okay, let's do both. And maybe the last one can go over where Renge-san's pop-up stage pops up most often."
Running a hand through his hair to neaten it after how active they had just been, he nodded. "Ooh, yes, and Nekozawa too. Maybe even the Zuka Club? Anyone who will make this party more interesting than the usual dull ones we have to attend."

"Oi, the Zuka Club?!" Kaoru cried, putting a hand to his head. "You really want to invite them along? I don't know how they'd take to having to kiss anyone - especially if it ends up being a Host Club member," he mentioned worriedly.
"Next you'll want to invite Arai-kun and Shiro-kun. And maybe the whole High School division while we're at it." Clinging to the ladder, he leaned over to snag another sprig of mistletoe from the box. "You know what, maybe we should just invite the Middle and Elementary School too. Why not all of Ouran Academy? Wh- whoa!"
Tilting a little too much, the younger twin yelped as he fell, bracing to hit the ground. Whoops.

"No, probably not the whole academy, I don't think this room could fit them and we're almost finished setting everything up here, wouldn't want to move now..." Hikaru smirked mischievously at his twin, but noticed he was a bit shaky on the ladder and-
He jumped under Kaoru, hitting the ground and bracing his twin's fall. "...Oof. Have you been sneaking some of Honey-senpai's cakes? You're heavier than I remember." Wincing slightly as he sat up and still partly cradling Kaoru in his arms, Hikaru smiled at his brother, trying to keep the worry out of his voice as he asked, "You okay? You should really know to be more careful, dummy. "

Kaoru blinked a couple of times before realizing what had happened. "Hikaru! Are you alright?!" He tugged on his brother's blazer in an effort to take it off, trying to get a better look at the side that had collided with the ground.
In spite of his worry, however, he couldn't help smiling a little at his brother's comment. "As if I'd be able to get them away from him. Hmm...now that sounds like a challenge. For another time," he added hastily. "Does it hurt? Should we go to the nurse?" He didn't like the wince he saw on Hikaru's face and carefully tried to help him up, using the arm already draped about his shoulders to support him.

Hikaru shook his head, trying to push his brother's hands away. "I'm fine, Kaoru, let's just finish the preparations. I don't need the nurse." He did, however, accept the younger twin's help in standing, putting a little more weight on his brother than he meant to.
