It had been an eventful day so far for Fireheart. Taking a patrol instead of her morning run had proved useful since she had intercepted a would-be accidental invasion from a new female, brightly colored like the dreamers, but of no relation. She had been pleasant enough, she had decided, and had welcomed her in for a rest and possibly a permanent stay. She had been looking for a new pride to call home and it was possible this was the one: a gaggle of misfits and odd ducks, to be sure.

Now she was on her way once again, sticking to the tree and shrub line before it thinned out and disappeared into the rouge lands. She knew Muhali was on patrol as well in Shandor's place, but she didn't trust the goddess as far as she could throw her. She might have the best intentions for the pride at heart, but twice now she had messed things up rather badly for them, and it wouldn't happen again. Not under Fireheart's watch, at least. That, and even a goddess couldn't be everywhere at once. The Patrons had their eyes to the outside at all times, but one more pair never hurt.

She paused to sit in a tall patch of grass on a slight hill, looking out at the endless stretch of savanna. Who knew what dangers lurked out there now? More dreamers, more lions like the one from the previous day that had attacked Shandor...more gods. She shuddered at the thought. It would be better if they all simply left them alone.

User ImageThere was, apparently, a first time for everything, Muhali figured. She'd never really had to patrol or actively protect anything; usually, her presence was deterring enough for anyone that might have had foul intentions, and those foolish enough to approach usually left with their tails between their legs.

She distinctly recalled one such occasion when she'd given birth to her last litter of babies, and the memory tugged at the corners of her maw as she padded through the deep foliage of the jungle. The goddess was still amused there were creatures dumb enough to approach a mother and her children when the former was feeling particularly over protective. Alas, that one lion, she figured, had learned his lesson well enough. The same would happen with anyone that dared enter, if foul intentions were apparent.

User Image"We've been through this section already," the hissing voice came from her back, where a threatening looking snake lay curled around her wings, nestled there as if the feathers were a nest, "You're going in circles," he said as his strange eyes moved to look her as best he could in the eye, "This would be easier if we went through the air, Mali. You're going about this the hard way, if you ask me," his tongue slipped in an out as he spoke, testing the air relentlessly.

"It's easier from the ground, Sumu. And no we've not. This is the northern section; we were in the eastern before. Your sense of orientation is frankly appalling, sweetie. We need to work on that," she turned her head slightly to give the grumpy reptile a smirk, watching as her familiar sneered and looked away from her. Sumu was, frankly, the only mortal creature that had known her before her insanity spell had lifted. The snake had remain in Kizingo'zaa when she'd vanished, and had only just reunited with her, but the goddess felt a deep sense of comfort around the smaller creature. After all, he was, at the current moment, the only one knew how much everything had changed.

"There's someone a few feet ahead," came his hissing voice again.

Indeed there was; Muhali had already heard the someone, but the scent was familiar, "Aye," was all she said as she stepped through some plant life, coming practically face to face with Fireheart, "That'd be the queen, sweetie," the snake narrowed his eyes, hissed, and looked away from both females once more. The moment the reptile turned away, the goddess directed all her attention back to the Gypsy queen, her head lowering slight in a bow, "Your highness," that said, she turned and prepared to go on her way again.

After all, she'd said all she had to said hours before.

Fireheart's ear twitched back towards the pride and her head turned to follow as she heard voices. They were a bit muffled from the foliage, but they were definitely moving her way. As they got closer one of them became more clear and familiar. She furrowed her brows as the second voice piped up again, but she couldn't place who it belonged to. Her silent question was answered soon enough as Muhali appeared through the trees and bushes.

She remained silent, having said her piece earlier, even though the fur along her spine stood up just a bit and an irritated look crossed her face. She knew it was very cub-like to point paws and say 'it's all YOUR fault', but she couldn't help but feel that if the goddess had stayed away, or done as she had said and just stopped in for a peek, none of this would have happened.

The bow and rather formal greeting caught her off guard and made her laugh in a dry, sarcastic way. "Your holiness," she returned, knowing full well that this particular goddess didn't like all the pomp and circumstance that went with her station. In a similar way, Fireheart wasn't fond of special attention she received due to her title, not that there was much to be had. Lions sought her out for help or questions, and they respected her decisions when she had to make them, but even that was a bit much for her. She had never been in line for the title until her mother and sister decided the position was not for them, leaving her the next in line. Not wanting to disappoint the pride, she had taken it up with her head held high, even if she was horribly nervous.

"And who is this?" she asked, finally spotting the source of the voice. A white snake sat coiled on her shoulders.

As Fireheart laughed, Muhali's head turned to acknowledge her, a small flash of hurt passing through her gaze as she spoke. Her lips thinned for a moment, and then she shook her head almost sadly, as if deciding that this was simply not the time or place, and turned around again, apparently about ready to leave despite the question that had been asked.

"My name us Sumu," came the hiss from the snake, "And you are rude," he said sharply, "And foolish! Specially for a monarch. Any other god would've cursed you, or what's worse, your land and the people that depend and look up to you to set an example!" the words were snapped as the snake bared his fangs.

"Sumu..." Muhali sounded tired as she lifted a wing and used it to block the snake's view of the gypsy queen; the single word held a note of warning to it, but the snake ignored it completely by shaking his body, wiggling and poking his head out of the feather of the wing covering his view, "I told them to treat me like any other member of the pride. It's not her fault."

"No!" came the snake's harsh hiss again, "No, she's not treating you like 'another pride member', she's being rude! You acknowledged her with respect and she returned the favor by mocking you," he snapped, "Cruelly so! Don't think I didn't hear that mocking edge to her tone; she said that to hurt you, and that's horribly impolite. Immature, even," he shoot Fireheart another cold glare from where he sat coiled, fangs bared, and then turned to look at the goddess, "Is this the pride you're working to protect? To help? By Mkodi, Muhali, if she's a good example of them, I'm surprised they're not all dead, cursed, or otherwise in a far worse state than they already are," his words ended with a sneer, which was cut short by another flap of the goddess wing, which she used to cover the snake up entirely.

"Sumu!" the goddess frowned down at the reptile, who looked her back straight in the eye, before slowly, finally, letting out another hiss and turning away from both female, "That's enough," she told the snake, before turning to look at the queen, "Were you looking for me? Did you need something?" this time, she left off both title and name from her phrasing.

As a very random, OOC note, I just want to let you know that Sumu's opinion of Fireheart is not my own; I love her as a character. ;0;

The younger female waited for an answer and, when she got one, she was amused. Surprised, but amused all the same. She let the snake spit his venom as much as he liked, hissing and making a fuss, even as Muhali tried to calm him and silence him.

"Please, we are all free to speak our minds here," she said with a wave of her paw. "Including those that call this jungle home that are not feline. You must forgive me, little friend. I'm not known for mollycoddling or beating around the bush. This land has already been cursed, twice in fact, and neither time were because of me." She turned her gaze back to the goddess and shook her head. "No, I was not seeking you out. But since you're here..." She paused, turning her thoughts over in her head. She had already apologized in the aftermath of the attack on Riddle Mouth, and it wasn't as if Fireheart was seeking a second, but she was still unsatisfied by the answers that had been given.

"Now that your true identity has been revealed, what are your intentions with this pride? I know for now you're acting as a guard, but when Riddle Mouth is back on his paws..." She trailed off, eyes narrowing just a bit. "Do you intend to stay?" She was sure the king and the goddess had already spoken. While she hadn't been able to pick up on Muhali's true immortal state, she had noticed her uncle developed a bit of a soft spot for the blue lioness during her days in hiding.

Dun worry about it XD I generally assume that if people don't like a character they wouldn't agree to RP with them =w=b
