Flicking her tail, the young mare stepped slowly out of the herd’s territory after visiting her sister, father and her mother. She made sure she visited them at least once a day or once every few days since he mother and father wanted to make sure she was healthy. She was special to them and she understood that, but she also wanted to do her job. She had stopped numerous others who stupidly walked into their family’s territory and she had to be there to make sure they didn’t continue. It was boring and when she wasn’t there doing that she was traveling. She loved seeing all she could see and had traveled so much already there wasn’t much left to see.

So she simply walked silently until she reached the open plains. She wasn’t interested in protecting the family today. She wanted to do a little exploring and then complete the day with a nice size meal. She could actually hunt big game now so there were plenty of ideas that were crossing her mind. Even though she mostly learned on her own, she loved that she was able to take this kind of obstacle head on. She didn’t know why she wanted to eat more flesh then her father, but it was more satisfying then eating grass. She had tried that before remembering what Nemain once told her. She had to force herself to eat it and honestly it wasn’t too bad just not her cup of tea. She only ate it when she desperately needed to. If it was a life or death circumstance or if he needed a slight boost in energy and she didn’t know how her family could stomach the stuff.

She made her way further and further across the open plain stopping at a small stream remembering this spot from her childhood. It was where she first met Nemain and probably the first time she spoke to someone who had good things to say or life lessons for that matter. As she took a small sip of the water, she felt as if eyes were on her and sadly she was right. She picked her head up slowly with her ears perking for any kind of sound in the surrounding area. When she heard nothing, but silence she gave one flick of her tail. In that instant a wolf jumped out at her from the tall grass causing her to doge the attack with ease. If this was months ago she would have gotten hit head on. She had learned a lot since the attack that crippled her to where she nearly died.

When the beast fumbled from the miss, she took the opportunity to quickly turn and lunge at the wolf. In one with move, she broke it’s neck letting the dead animal fall to the ground from her jaws. She knew there was more then just this lone wolf near by. They always hunted in packs and she would be a sitting duck here out in the open.

She gritted her teeth into a sneer with fangs glistening in the darkening sky. She ran as fast as she could away from the area not sure where she was going or what she would bump into. She couldn’t fight them all off alone and she knew they were coming. She could hear them howling in the distance behind her.

Drako watched the snow-colored mare from under the cover of the forest. She was strange in his eyes: talon-tipped feet where hooves should be, with feathers growing from her mane and a wolf's tail where her real tail belonged. But her slender build told him something else, as did the slightly thicker, furred ears he could make out from this distance: she was at least part Cerynei. That was what had interested him from the start.

He'd been watching her for a while now, studying her. He wanted to know more about her, what her secrets were. If it had not been for those claws, he might have simply gone to her and asked her, but he wasn't an idiot. His parents had taught him caution for a reason. She could probably spear him on one of her toes without difficulty.

And then, suddenly, she moved, darting out of the way as if something were attacking her - and there was. A wolf, skinny and probably desperate for prey to attack a mare so well armed. Without hesitation, she broke its neck, and Drako felt his shock sink in. A mare of Cerynei heritage killing another animal? The thought turned in his mind like it had turned his stomach, but, at the same time, made him wonder more.

A howl went up.

As Drako turned his attention back to the mare, he registered her shape much closer to him than it had been before. She was running toward him, sprinting to get away. He had grown up in these woods, and if the wolves followed her trail, they would be upon the both of them. He had to lead her away.

Not hesitating for a moment, Drako jumped into sight, out from behind a birch tree. The deciduous trees were dead during winter, and he blended in especially well; now in her line of sight, he hoped he would stand out. "This way," he called, and ran into the woods. There was a stream somewhere nearby, he knew - if they could reach it, they could lose the wolves.

The young mare sneered at the stallion when he jumped out from his cover. She didn’t know whether or not to follow him at first, but with the wolves on her trail she knew she didn’t have much choice on the matter. She hurried hastily alongside him knowing there was a stream close by and wondering if that was his plan. She didn’t know just how determined these wolves were, but if they did continue the chase she was going to have to step in to take matters into her own hands. “Do you actually think this is going to work?” She said in a harsh voice as she took a deep breath to get some air into her lungs.

Once they reached the stream she halted all her movements and looked behind them hearing the growls in the distance. They weren’t going to let up and the only way to settle anything was to fight or try to scare them off. She stepped in front of Drako and let out a snarl then a deep-throated growl as the wolves neared. She may have Cerynei blood somewhere in her, but she was more in tune with her wolf and harpy heritage. She had that inborn need to where she felt she wanted to protect anyone that was in danger and obviously this stallion couldn’t protect himself. He didn’t have claws or fangs like her and his hooves couldn’t do much nor would his antlers. “Don’t get involved or you’re going to become food for them.” She told the stallion giving him a slight glance and could tell he was scared. She however wasn’t afraid of anything, but that could be disputed.

When the wolves neared them, she stood her ground growling before one lunged at her and she dove right back. When the two collided soft cries could be heard before Chosovi rose to her feet again with blood dripping off her muzzle. The cycle repeated until three wolves lay on the ground dead and he rest ran off with their tails between their legs. She slowly raised her sore body up off the ground watching the remaining wolves flee just to be sure they weren’t going to come back. She was happy she could defend the stallion even if it meant she got a little injured in the process.

“You can go on your way now..” She told him as she walked towards the stream with a slight limp. She rinsed off her muzzle and wondered just how many wounds she had received. She didn’t know if this stallion was going to stick around or not, but Chosovi was going to have to rest for a little bit. Her leg was hurting and she could feel small burning pains on her back and one on her back leg knowing she had a few cuts there. They probably weren’t deep, but she didn’t want to chance it.

Lifting her head up, she looked over at the stallion again seeing his odd markings making her snort. He really could blend in easily with the trees.

As he wove his way through the woods with her right behind him, Drako smirked. She was feisty and predatory, and combined, he didn't know how he felt about that. But it was possibly the combination of those traits that led her to know exactly what he was doing - leading her toward that stream. The smell of fresh, icy water also cut through the forest smells like a knife, beckoning them. If anything, they would be able to lure the wolves into the stream - cold as it was, the animals wouldn't risk drenching their thick fur. Or at least, that was how Drako saw it. He failed to account for whatever this moonlight-toned mare might do. "And what else could we possibly do?" he asked, knowing full well that she had broken a neck just minutes ago.

When Chosovi stopped just short of the stream's bank, Drako was already submerged halfway to his knees. Turning around to find her again, he saw her standing there, ears alert as she listened to the wolves' rumblings. Splashing out of the stream, Drako went back to her, but she stepped in front of him and let out a snarl so beastly that she sounded like a wolf herself. Tail twitching nervously, he looked between her and the wolves. "If that's how you want to do things..." he said, and took a step back as she swung into action. Drako watched, eyes widening, as he realized how efficient she was. A bite here, a claw there; by the end of it, the soft white of her muzzle and - now Drako saw them - the gleam of her fangs were stained crimson. For some reason, he wasn't entirely revolted; perhaps some of his brother's blood - his grandfather's blood - really did run in his veins.

"You think I'm going to leave you, wounded as you are?" he asked, incredulous, moving out of the way to let her pass by him. Her white hide was marred in places with angry red wounds that leaked blood; something was going to smell that, especially if they had managed to smell her before when she was unwounded. "You need to wash out those cuts if you don't want them to get infected," he added, stepping back into the stream beside her. He could just imagine - if this was a semi-normal day for her, those wounds would fill up with all kinds of dirt and animal blood. "What's your name, anyway?" Standing there, he took a moment to study her. She did, indeed, have Cerynei ears, but that was really all; if she had clawed feet like a bird, she probably got her slim build from one, as well. Her mane was topped with that crown of feathers, and it looked like they really were attached. And then there was that thick tail... Much thicker than a wolf's, at least this time of year.

Though he had a million questions to ask her, when she snorted, he looked back up at her. "What?" he asked, looking around. Was there something funny around them? If there was, he couldn't see it.

Now she knew how Nemain felt when she asked her a bunch of questions because this male was just blurting thinks out. She didn’t mind since she rarely was around anyone else for a long period of time so a break from the quiet loneliness wasn’t too bad. “Why do you care if I’m wounded or not? Is it normal for a stranger to care about another’s well being?” She said at him harshly not really meaning to be so mean or forward about anything. She simply would prefer to be honest rather then lie. “If you want to help me then we will have to find a way for me to clean my wounds. A freshwater source would probably be the best option since I left all my belongings with my family.” She spoke softly to him leaving her brutal nature behind her for a moment. Maybe he was just being nice or maybe he actually cared about her?

“My name is Chosovi. What is yours?” She asked looking at him for a moment before continuing down along the stream. “This should lead to a small lake or a pond. We just have to hope it’s a freshwater one.” She said to him lightly keeping a slow pace due to her wounds bothering her. She didn’t need something infected and if it did, that could be the end of her life. “I wouldn’t want to stick around here anyway…because those wolves will be back and the farther we are the better.” She didn’t know if this stallion had any kind of fighting skills, but she hoped he did. If the wolves did decide to make a second attack, she wouldn’t be able to fight all of them off this time. Maybe one or two, but any more then that and she was asking for a death wish.

“Nothing…You just look a little different then most I have seen. I’m guessing blending in with the forest is a specialty of yours?” She asked curiously even though deep down she had a feeling this stallion was going to ask her a million questions. “My family line has a lot of Cerynei in it. Even though I don’t look Cerynei, I have the blood in me.” She told him seeing his tail and remembering that her mother had a similar poofy tail with slight differences to it.

Rolling her eyes at the thought, she continued along the stream stopping here and there to give her leg a rest. She didn’t like anyone seeing her this weak especially a stallion. This was something she was not use to, but she did have to learn that it’s alright to rely on others sometimes.

"A stranger would leave you after you've saved his life?" Drako responded, though the question was more of a rhetorical one. He could not imagine a world in which a victim would be so ungrateful as to abandon his heroine without so much as a "thanks." Chosovi's dark tone made him wonder if she had had similar encounters before.

"And are you not standing in freshwater?" he asked, trying not to smile when her voice softened. His ears flicked forward appreciatively. It was nice to hear such a contrast between the frighteningly brutal mare that he had just met and the girl who stood before him after the battle, figuratively licking her wounds. "Although I suppose it would need to be a bit deeper… " he finished, eyeing the shallow stream in which he was standing.

" I am Drako. If those wolves do come back, I believe one of us would be out of commission anyway. And, yeah, I am especially good at blending in. Training, in fact, to be better at that art.I was wondering if you had Cerynei blood in you. My parents are both Cerynei kind.… But I suppose that much is obvious, " he finished sheepishly. He twitched his small tail involuntarily. Beginning to feel a little bit chatty, Drako let his feet drag through the stream, enjoying the feeling and numbness. Though he could have certainly taken the easier path and walked beside her on the bank, the chill of the water was refreshing on legs warm from running.

Continuing on in silence, Drako hopped out of the stream after a few more moments. It was, honestly, quite cold in the water, and prolonging the exposure, along with the chill in the air, didn't feel like it would do him that much good. He watched her closely, but tried not to stare. Her wounds were still seeping dribbles of blood. The stream was widening but it was taking longer than he had thought it would to find the pond at the end of it. " I'm not sure how long it'll take to find the source. If the river gets deep enough, do you think you could wade into it and clean your wounds there? I can help you. "

The young mare snorted at the stallion. His attitude was comforting to her, maybe a little bit too comforting and it was something that she didn’t mind at the moment. After all she was focused on getting herself back up to 100% with no problems and didn’t feel like fighting all over again. “Cerynei?” She perked her ears up at the mentioned of the breed. She was a little bit Cerynei, but it wasn’t very noticeable. Her ears were the only thing that could be seen as Cerynei traits and other then that she looked more harpy and wolf. “I do have Cerynei blood…you see my ears are the only thing that you can see of it though.” She said as she wiggled them a little bit. “I look mostly like a harpy and mutant wolf.” She gave him a nod as she thought about it. It was something she really didn’t mind, but sometimes she did wish she looked more like her mother. Then maybe others wouldn’t fear her so much. “Yeah you look mostly Cerynei. In fact you look like a pure blood.” She told him and would assume he was, but she knew better then that.

She continued on contemplating the possibility that it could take them awhile to find a deeper part to the river. She hoped it wouldn’t, but at this point anything was possible. “Fine..as long as your alright with doing so I think I can manage with a deeper point in the river.” She told him feeling slightly uncomfortable with a stallion helping her. She really dind’t like them getting too close to her and always felt they were up to something.

As they pressed on, she looked over at the other while she trudged through the slowly deepening water feeling it sooth her body a little bit.
