Chosovi knew she wasn’t having a good day when her food got away from her earlier in the morning. Now she had to track the stupid thing, but at least she was happy it was wounded. It wouldn’t have gotten far at least and a deer was definitely something you followed. It was hard enough for her to get one of those beasts down let alone a full-grown buck. She was slowly learning though and that was probably the best thing at the moment. She was finally becoming the hunter she always wanted to be even if it did take her a long time to accomplish a task such as that.

Now she was trying to track down the buck and the blood trail was the only thing she could really go by. The blood stained both the ground and whatever the deer brushed up against as it ran. She was a fearless hunter and wouldn’t stop until she completely lost the beast, but with the blood trail becoming more frequent, she knew it was only a matter of time before the animal fell due to blood loss. She knew the animal was wounded severely from the deep claw marks in it’s hind quarters as well as the massive bite to the throat. It didn’t have much longer to survive and the more energy it exerted the weaker it was going to get.

She paused seeing the deer up ahead trying to continue walking, but the only problem was it was moving slow thanks to the slashes on it’s rump. She waited seeing it slowly move forward before dashing for it at full speed. A loud strangled cry could be heard and the birds flew up into the sky until all was silent. She was proud of her kill, but knew it was going to attract other predators or others that simply wanted to see what was going on. It was enough to feed two others and she was going to stuff herself as much as she could so she could leave the rest for whomever.

So as she began gorging herself on the soft flesh, she kept a close eye out for anything that might strike her as threatening or something that would want to claim this food as his or her own.

Perhaps the one thing she truly felt ashamed of at times, Alarion had begun to feel the growing hunger pangs for something other than the sweet grass she usually shared with her father. He'd taught her how to find food in even the worst of conditions in the desert. But every now and then, the blood she shared with her mother would crave something else. Something with blood of its own. Her mouth watered a little just thinking of finding small game to hunt. Not that she was any sort of skilled hunter at all.

With a deep sigh, the winged mare continued her search for anything that would ease the meat craving she had. She'd left the growing comfort of the desert to find a more woodland area that was sure to have easier game. But so far, she'd seen a couple squirrels that only laughed at her. Because how was she supposed to catch them?

It was a thought that kept her more distracted than a good hunter should be. Until she crossed a path that had blood on it. The salty scent tingled along the inside of her nostrils, which flared wide as she blinked at the trail. Grinding her teeth a bit, Alarion turned to follow it, sniffing here and there along the way to be sure she was still heading in the right direction.

Perhaps if she had been paying more attention, she'd of noticed the second set of prints that had stalked the blood. As it was, she hadn't seen them and was rather surprised to hear the strangled cry of some creature. A deer perhaps? She blinked widely as birds took off from their perches. Curiosity overriding common sense, Alarion started towards what appeared to be the centralized location the birds had come from. Which was also the direction the blood went. When she rounded a tree and spotted the dead deer, her stomach ached and rumbled. But she was too busy staring at the mare currently feasting on such a fine meal. A rather... strange mare.

"D-Did... you kill it all by yourself?" Alarion couldn't help but ask in awe.

Licking her muzzle, she mare lifted her head up and stared straight into the other’s eyes. She didn’t seem scared or disgusted by her kill and that was a good thing for the moment. “Yes I did. Why?” She always thought that everyone wanted something from you in some way. Even if it was a friendship or the smallest portion of food they always wanted something out of you. So Chosovi tried her best to keep things short and to the point right away instead of beating around the bush. “Did you want some of my kill is that why?” She sneered letting a low growl emit from her throat before realizing it wasn’t really having too much of an effect on the other. She went back to being reserved and unreadable. “If you want some you can have some…I have nearly had my full of this beast and will leave the rest for whomever wants it.” She told her examining her fully now that she had her attention.

She was a rather odd looking female with a wings and feathers on her head like her. Even if they were more of a headdress she wanted to know if maybe this mare had a similar heritage to hers. “By any chance are you harpy blooded?” She asked and didn’t know anything about hippogryphs and only heard bad things of the harpy clans so she didn’t really know how she would feel if this mare said she was one.

Once she finished her fill, she moved away from the carcass licking her fangs making sure her muzzle was clean as she eyed the mare. She wanted to know more about her. If her father was telling the truth and if all harpies were bad, but if she wasn’t harpy born then she didn’t exactly know what she would think. She didn’t know other breeds had feathers like that on their heads. “My name is Chosovi. What is yours?” She asked and rarely asked for names so it was clear that she was very much curious about this winged mare.

Alarion shifted her weight a little, suddenly feeling shy and maybe a bit embarrassed in what her answer was going to be. Clearly this mare was much more skilled then she was. And also had a taste for meat. It made her all the more curious about her. "I... I was just impressed." She admitted, though a guilty look did flash across her features when she was asked if she wanted some of the kill and that was why she was asking. "Maybe. I was just following the blood trail. I did not realize this kill was already claimed by another." Her wings ruffled a little, tail flicking. However when she was offered some of it, her ears perked up and a hopeful expression crossed her long face. "R-Really? I'd be... very grateful. I am not the best hunter."

The sudden change in questions caught the winged mare by surprise and she blinked wide eyes. "Harpy blooded?" She had never met or heard of a harpy before! "What are they?" Alarion asked in renewed curiosity, stepping a little closer as to not appear like she was hiding. "I am part hippo'gryph." She added. "From my mother's side."

Moving carefully and slowly, Alarion approached the carcass hesitantly as the other moved away. There was a sheepish and clearly embarrassed expression about her as her stomach rumbled and she lowered her muzzle to dig into the carcass. Her teeth were not nearly as sharp as the other mare, but she was able to rip a piece off with some work. "Chosovi?" She tested the name, glancing over at her with a small smile. "I'm Alarion."

Chosovi could see this mare didn’t usually hunt and if she did, she wasn’t the best at it. She wasn’t equipped with lethal talons or jaws full of sharp teeth. She probably had the worse time trying to hunt and this made her feel a little bit sorry for her. “I’m happy to help..” She said to her and wasn’t really sure she even meant what she said, but she was all right with it. Helping others out was engraved in her blood and it was something instilled in her from her father.

“Hippogryph?” She had heard of them once and only once, but didn’t really know if they were evil or not. This mare didn’t seem the least bit evil to her so they probably weren’t. “I haven’t met someone of that breed..” She said and was a little intrigued by it because she was so keen on learning about everyone. “Harpies look similar to me…not the tail, but the feathers on their head and they have four claws like me. My family is not particularly fond of them that is why I ask. My father and grandfather have had a nasty time with them in the past.” She told the winged mare remembering everything she was told as a filly. She grew a strong distaste for anyone in the Flock and if given the chance she would save everyone from that horrible fate. “But since you aren’t a harpy or have that lineage there is nothing to worry about.” She said softly eyeing the mare while she ate.

She really was having trouble and it took her a few moments before she finally walked back over clawing at the stomach of the deer for a few moments until she loosened some of the meat there. “It’s nice to meet you.” She said before clawing the stomach a couple more times loosening it even more for her. She felt a little like a mother figure for some reason and she didn’t really like it. “Sadly I do not know what I am other then I am part wolf…I don’t know where my claws come from…I mean my father has claws and paws as well as feathers on his head…so I guess I am part harpy since his mother was a harpy. I don’t know…if I can accept myself as that so..I consider myself a wolf…I am a wolf.” She said to the female in a serious tone before sitting down on the ground.

“I will not harm you though so do not worry.” She eyed the female looking at her watching her eat some of the remaining deer. "Did you have to learn to hunt alone or did someone teach you?" She asked because if she learned on her own they would have something in common. She had trouble learning on her own and it took her a long time to get through it.

Alarion gave Chosovi an appreciative look, though still felt a little embarrassed at eating the meat. She had honestly never been around other hunters like herself much, and had grown to find her habits not something to be proud of. He father, bless him, was never bothered by it and tried to encourage her to just be who she was. But she felt different, in a way, because of her cravings.

She paused in her attempts to eat the meat, blinking pupilless eyes at Chosovi. "I've... never met one either. I only know about them because my dad told me that was what Kal, my mother, was." And she'd never met the mare before so she couldn't even describe what a hippogryph was supposed to look like! Perhaps they all looked as she did? She nodded slowly as Chosovi explained what harpies were. "They do sound similar to what my mother was explained to look like." Alarion admitted with a frown. "But I can definitely assure you I am not of the harpy blood." Her eyes flickered to Chosovi's tail as she admitted to being part wolf. That certainly explained that!

The pale mare relaxed a little more as the other mare sat down, adding on the nice little bit about not planning to harm her. Alarion delicately chewed on another piece of meat before licking her pale muzzle and regarding Chosovi. "I had to learn on my own, though my dad did try to help. But he is not... " She frowned and sighed. "It was my mother that I got this craving for meat from. Not him. So I have had to teach myself mostly."

Alarion offered her a small smile. "What about you? Did you teach yourself too?" She was clearly much better at it, if she had! Alarion couldn't help but be a little jealous.

This mare seemed to be telling the truth and she knew she wasn’t part harpy. She maybe there was another breed that had claws like her and if there was, she wanted to know more about them. They probably weren’t vicious or slavers , which was a plus. “I trust your words. That makes you the first hippogryph I have ever met then.” She told her with a swift flick of her tail. She was definitely curious, but if this mare didn’t know much she didn’t know how she could learn from her. She would have to find the source, which would be her mother. “Is your mother around or did you leave you?” She knew not everyone stuck together and there was always a chance that the mom split right after the baskets were dropped.

When she spoke of her family, she felt a little bit more comfortable. It was kind of the same situation she was in, but reversed. Her father was an omnivore and her mother strictly ate plants. She on the other hand only really craved meat and her sister was like her father. She didn’t understand why she got the craving for it, but it was nice knowing that it happened to someone else. “Ah I see. My family is like that, but the opposite. My father eats both plants and meat though. He only eats what he needs to survive and doesn’t over gorge himself..I learned a little bit from him, but I mostly taught myself. I had to. If I didn’t I wouldn’t be able to hunt big game like this. Though if I didn’t have these claws I wouldn’t be able to do much good hunting.” She told her and even though the mare didn’t have talons like hers, she could do some damage if she came down on unwary prey with those wings of hers. She could easily tackle something to the ground and kill them in seconds.

“If you need help training or learning I could help…but that is up to you.” She said to her and for once she was opening up to someone else. She felt it was because they shared common interests and their families were similar. She could relate with her and actually feel like she belonged in a way. She was tired of others hating on her for who and what she was. “Have you ever experienced hatred towards you for what you are? Everyone seems to judge me as some kind of monster…a few didn’t, but…have you ever felt like someone doesn’t like you just because you were born the way you are?” She asked with her glare softening on the mare. She wasn’t always so mean and honestly just wanted to be liked for who she was. Maybe it would be a difficult thing to achieve, but she was willing to try even if it took her forever.

Alarion paused in her eating, glancing towards Chosovi. "I am probably a poor excuse for one then. So I do apologize." She sighed, lowering her muzzle back to work on ripping off another piece of meat to chew on while the other mare watched and asked questions. A small frown formed as she chewed and swallowed when asked if her mother was around. "I never met my mother." She admitted. "And dad doesn't really talk much about her. It was... as he says, an unexpected fling. That resulted in my sister and I." A deeper frown formed, her wings ruffling a bit. "I guess... dad agreed to take a basket and she took the other?" That was really all she knew and the rest she speculated on. "Dad says I look a lot like mother though." Minus the clawed front feet and, what he described as a 'beak'. She really didn't understand what he meant and had yet to meet another Soq that had such a trait.

She nodded her head, having had her fill now of the deer. Alarion licked her muzzle as clean as she could while listening before offering Chosovi a small smile. "You got lucky, then, it sounds. My father only eats plants. But he knew a little about hunting and tried to teach me. It didn't work out too well so I had to practice and teach myself." She pawed at the ground with a hoof. "Not easy with only hooves either." And she could survive on eating just plants. She'd just have to suffer through spouts of cravings until they passed. Hopefully. Alarion hadn't been brave enough to try ignoring them for long.

The winged mare found herself caught by surprise, again, at Chosovi's offer. "You would... be willing to help me learn?" She asked hesitantly. But there was hope in her pupiless gaze. That turned to a sad understanding. "I... not many have said that to me, and my dad was very good at making sure no one felt that way around me. But I... I felt that way about myself." She never felt like she fit in properly, being different from her father and others. Especially with winged soq. She was no skilled flier, having had to try and teach herself and failing. Alarion felt embarrassed about having wings most of the time.

She felt a little bad for this mare not having a mother there for her while she grew up. She didn’t know what she would have done without her own mother. A fling? She can understand why that was done and honestly she would prefer that to some fairytale love story. She didn’t know if she would like someone sticking by her all the time and would rather they left just they wouldn’t be taking her babies with them. “I don’t even know what it would be like growing up with only one parent, but at least your father loves you. Have you seen your other sibling at all?” If her and Awahi were separated at birth, she knew she wouldn’t be able to go on. They were close and there was nothing that could break them apart. “If I didn’t have my sister by my side..I don’t know what I would do. We are twins so we feel what each other feel and know when something is wrong. I couldn’t live if I didn’t know where she was.” She said truthfully with a flick of her tail.

“I suppose I’m lucky..” She didn’t consider herself that lucky. She had already been hated for what she was and she didn’t want to be hated. Who would? “If you ever have a craving for meat you can always come find me. I try to stick away from plants unless I really desperately need them.” Did this mean they were friends? She never had a friend before and didn’t even know what friends did. “Does this mean we are friends?” She didn’t like that kind of word because it felt almost like they were committed to something. She didn’t like commitments or being confined.

She knew she could teach her how to hunt, but it would take some time. She was going to be a lot of work considering she only had hooves. “I will..you have my word.” When she gave her word it was pretty much a done deal. She never backed out on what she said either. “Maybe we should save the training for another day..” She was rather full at the moment and whenever she ate she usually enjoyed a small nap up in the trees. “I’m due for a nap.” She didn’t know why she had this habit of sleeping after she ate and assumed it was from her childhood. It was something she needed to grow out of. “Will you be safe traveling back home?” She eyed the winged mare wondering if she would even see her again after this.

Alarion tilted her head a little in consideration, not quite sure how to respond right away. "I guess I could claim the same if I'd had my mother around too. But it's always been me and dad. I'd feel weird having her around." She ruffled her wings a little at the thought. Though the mare had to admit it would have been nice having her mother around for some things. Like teaching her about hippogryph's. "I remember her being there, but I have never met my sister." She added with a sad look. She'd never had a sibling to grow up with. Or anyone she could really claim was a friend.

She offered the other mare a small smile. "Maybe... we are both lucky in our own ways?" Surely if she'd had her mother and sister she wouldn't have grown to be as independent as she was now! Or maybe she wouldn't have gotten to travel so freely. "I... thank you. I appreciate that." And it made her smile grow a bit more at the thought of having another mare to hunt with. And chat with. She wasn't sure what that made them, but was very surprised when Chosovi asked if they were friends. Alarion's pupil-less eyes widened hugely. "Friends?" Is this what it meant to be friends? "I... I don't... maybe?" Her tail swished behind her, wings ruffling again. "I've never had a friend before." It was kind of an exciting thing to think on. "Do you... want to be friends?" She asked.

Alarion grinned at Chosovi. "Maybe, in return, I can try and find out more about what a hippogryph is. For both of us." She said, giggling a little. "And agreed. We can save training for another day." She paused. "Yes. I can find my way home from here. Do you frequent this area?" It would give her an idea of where to seek out the mare when she wanted to... hang and train with her again!

She felt a little sad for her. Never having a sibling around had to be horrible and never having a mother around much either was probably just as tough. She didn’t know what it felt like, but she knew it probably wasn’t the best feeling in the world. “Maybe one day you will be able to meet your mother and sister. You never know. Life can be pretty..unpredictable like that.” She shrugged her shoulders and honestly didn’t know if she could be optimistic about that situation since it sounded pretty complicated. Even with her mother and father by her side, she was always an independent mare from the very beginning. She didn’t know if it was in her blood or if it was just how she was. Her mother was the same way as well.

When the mare questioned them being friends, she flicked her tail and let out a small smirk. “Yes. You are my first friend and the first…individual I even considered worthy of that title.” She didn’t know what it meant to be a friend, but she was up for new things. Plus she assumed it was like the things she did with her sister. After all they were friends as well. “We could meet up whenever you want or need to talk..I would have your back and you would have mine.” She nodded and that was one thing she was strict about. If Alarion ever betrayed her, she would be devastated. She would probably never trust anyone ever again and it took a lot just for her to do this. “I will be your friend only if you want to.” She didn’t know if the mare wanted that, but from the look of things she could use someone like Cho whom would be the most loyal friend she would ever have.

“Sure if you want and then we could both learn together. I don’t know much about the breed and I don’t think my father does either. I might be able to ask my aunt though.” She nodded hearing her question and giving a toothy grin. “Trust me I will find you. I frequent everywhere and if you really want me to show up I will. Don’t worry.” She said lightly to the mare as she slowly began to wander away from her once again. She knew this friendship was going to last. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start and to her that mattered.
