General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.


    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

    (If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

It was almost a little ironic that, being a person who attracted trouble so often (sometimes to the point of losing her life), she would be willingly marching towards death now. Training was training, though. She had done every division's task except this one, and as a Mist who was slowly finding herself angling down information gathering, it'd behoove her to get better acquainted with the skills necessary to do so.

That, and her instinct to detect danger really needed some fine tuning.

Stormy was glad that they had to use a golem for this, however; it meant her weapon didn't have to come into play.

Taking a deep breath, she got used to the golem and stretched her limbs a bit before approaching the platform. Hopefully sneaking around as per Candace's training would give her even a little edge.

As per usual, things started off with a bang.

Stormy had a funny feeling about the tile she chose, but this feeling had come about a split second before her foot came down. By the time she realized it was a bad choice, the tile was just beginning to open while a volley of arrows shot up. Wincing, she backed off before it took too much more out of her shield.

Crap.

Her next choice didn't prove to be much better. The tile she had retreated too opened up immediately and began to grind the golem's legs into pasty.

She was really, really glad they didn't force actual people into this. But these were some inexcusably bad instincts she had to fix . . .

The tiles shifted and she began her second attempt.

As before, she just had a knack for finding the worst tiles. This time, however, Stormy felt a twinge in her gut before she stepped forward. Carefully she placed the flag on it and chose an adjacent tile instead.

For her wisdom, she was greeted with piranhas.

Stormy found a reprieve in her haste to find a new tile and stood there for a moment, shaking off the water and checking to make sure she hadn't gotten too chewed up. Hands out for balance, she turned in place and examined the innocuous squares, trying to exercise her gut feeling.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Or maybe they were all bad from the start and she had been doomed.

Either way, one explosion sent her reeling in seconds.

She was determined to get this done one way or another, though she was hesitant after all those mistakes. Taking a breath, Stormy selected a tile and winced as electricity ran up her body, teeth clenched and fists balled.

When the pain had subsided, she paused. Hesitation shouldn't hold her back, but neither could she be desperate enough to finish this to be throwing herself at random either. Stormy scanned the tiles, listening to ticks and clicks and other ominous noises.

She was rewarded with a safe tile this round, though her body was still twitching from the lightning.

Again she listened; this time there was silence on the tiles before her. Frowning, Stormy approached one and stopped: there was a vague, very soft hissing noise coming out from under it. Quietly she plucked her flag from her pocket and set it down before choosing a relatively less hissy one.

The next hop after her investigation left her unscathed as well. Her heart was starting to beat faster with anticipation as she spied the other end of the Deathsweeper.

Don't get too excited. Keep a cool head, she told herself, wishing Thane was there to say it instead.
