The tech had almost laughed when they asked for headets. Not because they couldn't have them, but because they hadn't thought to get them before. Only fools would willingly go so long without such luxury. Everyone had their moments of foolishness so Sherry tried not to let the tech's reaction bother her. At least thwy HAD realized they could get them. Eventually.

“It's not that funny,” she muttered, “and we've been doing fine without them. Come on, Jake. Let's get started.” Sherry motioned to the door and then grabbed her gear. She'd put it on outside, thank you very much.

Jake on the other hand, had been rather intrigued about the titan gear upgrade he had just got. Other than the runic upgrade, there didn't seem to be a huge difference... other than the straps looking a lot shinier than they did. Was that normal? Hopefully it was better improved not just aesthetically.

Raising his head and noting Sherry's sour mood, he immediately straightened, not making eye contact with the techs.

"R-right, let's go."

Sherry only nodded on her way out the door.

She wasn't too upset, now that the snickers were safely behind a door and away from her. She didn't even care what anyone thought about it, it was just... why couldn't they have mentioned something about them working the last time or two they'd stopped by for gear. It was ridiculous and dangerous and really not that amusing.

Fingers fumbled with straps, normal straps, not shiny ones like Jake's, since she'd neglected to bring her nicotine boxes with her that day. She'd put her gloves on once she was ready to go.

Which wasn't too much longer.

"At least we don't have to yell now," she said, in a much happier voice than she'd used in the room. "Hopefully, unless these things are broken." Sherry made sure Jake had one of the headsets they'd been given before putting hers on.

"Shall we take the usual route?" She hoped so, because she was already walking that way.

A cheerful Sherry was much easier to deal with, and he nodded, fiddling with his own straps and harness.

Once that was done, he plucked a headset out of Sherry's hands and put it on, then slung his free arm around her.
"Sounds good to me!"

"Good," she smiled as she said it, leaning into him a little bit. Most, if not all of the animosity she had been feeling melted away. Jake and his good natured contact made everything better. "Thanks."

They're route was well known to both of them by this point, and Sherry was content not to talk too much as they meandered along it. Company made things better, and so did Jake. And hopefully headsets and Jake's shiny new gear would make things a little easier. More importantly, Sherry hoped it would help Jake with Chester.

The titan was on the beach, looming as they came around a hilly corner, and as soon as they spotted it anything Sherry might have deemed quiet and romantic about their stroll faded. "That one?" As if she needed to ask.

He hoped so too, because if it didn't, he might have a talk with the techs. It probably wouldn't have done much, because he didn't want those packs back anyways.

When Sherry pointed out the titan, Jake nodded, preparing his gear.
"Yup, looks like it."
He gave her a peck on the cheek and winked.
"I promise to treat you out after all this. Seriously, thanks."
Of course, it might take a bit longer since he had used up his 5 boxes to upgrade his gear, but he was sure he could get a reverse pendant a lot faster now that he had better equipment.

"Wish me luck!"

The titan was giving him a bit of trouble, and he supposed the gear was a bit different from before, but not entirely so. He couldn't blame everything on the gear. In truth, he was still rusty, even after fighting titans, but he wasn't going to give up, no.

Perhaps this titan was a lot of feisty than the other ones, and he narrowly missed being a hunter pancake as it lashed its tail at him.

Alright, 3rd time's the charm.
Gritting his teeth, he tried to keep in the titan's blind spot, and finally managed to find a spot relatively safe to land.

Securing the cord, he waved to Sherry, and then remembered the headset.
"Alright, your turn!"

Sherry was all smiles and blushes. Good job, Jake. If anyone (Armagnac) might wonder why she dated the reckless, stubborn, jerk of a trainee, Sherry would point to little things like that peck and promise. He could be a sweetheart, even if he didn’t know it. True, he hadn’t always been so sweet, but he’d always had his nice moments. “I am holding you to that. Good luck!” His kiss on the cheek was returned, because kisses for luck were the best kind of luck wishing.

Was she nervous while she watched him get up there on that Titan? Maybe. He’d done it before, though, and had even worse trouble, so she wasn’t too worried as she readied her own part of the gear. Though she did sigh with relief when his voice crackled in the headset.

She waved back to acknowledge him and then set about putting the anchor down.

The sand beneath her feet shifted. Not good and not helpful. The anchor wouldn't have time to get secure like this.

"Give me a just a moment," she said into the headset. She almost had this. Just had to put this thing down again.

Boots firmly in the sand, Sherry heaved the runic device down again. It seemed like a nice firm position for it. Fingers ran over switches and things, and Sherry watched as the device kicked in and attached itself to the ground.

The line would likely go taunt in a moment, as soon as the moving Titan reached the end of its new leash. Which meant it was Jake's turn to get on distracting the thing.

"Alright," she said, secretly happy she didn't have to try and yell, "It's anchored. Time to poke at it until we can make it explode." She waved, even though she didn't have to.

"I'll do my best to keep an eye on things, so you be careful up there!" Sherry stepped away from the anchor, putting herself in a better position to do her job.

... Explode. He wasn't really looking forward to that. But he WAS excited to try out this new gear. Hopefully it'd make things a bit easier.
"Will do! Make sure you stay a good distance away!"

“Don’t worry about me,” he could probably hear the smile in her voice, “I don’t plan to stand under it.” But she had to stand near enough to keep an eye on things. And sadly, her new position did not allow her to do that as well as she liked. “It’s my job to worry about you up there.” Which was why she was moving again, making sure to keep the tether in sight.
