Otto had slowly walked through the halls at a sluggish pace after leaving the classroom. His mind was blank, and his heart was numb. It was better this way. Feeling hurt, sad and betrayed was too painful. Too tiring. This would do just fine.
He stopped as he saw an empty commons room, crawling onto one of the couches and lying down on his face.
It was quiet here. He liked this spot. He hoped no one would be coming any time soon.

Otto remained undisturbed for what seemed like an hour, until-
"Otto," a heavily-accented voice called from the doorway, "Have you - have you seen Sam?"
"She is not at her office... or the infirmary... I texted her, but-" The shock hadn't quite caught up to him yet. Not as long as he kept himself focused on the task at hand. The only sign of his weakening psyche was that he was shivering despite the indoor heating, and the way his eyes moved frantically to the peripherals at even the possibility of movement. He had to tell Sam about Caelius. She'd offered to advise him on this dangerous game he'd chosen to play, and he was pretty sure he needed that advice of hers now more than ever. "I need to talk to her right now, it- it is important-"

Otto's off and on nap was interrupted by a vaguely familiar voice. His head slowly turned towards the voice, short and fluffy hair matted and tufted from his napping. His icy gaze lifted upon processing his question, turning distant and tired as Lucky went on and on.
Sam... Sam was dead. She'd betrayed him, called him naive. And she was gone. He was pretty sure he still wore some of her blood on his clothes. He'd never had a moment to change since that time. He'd been too shell shocked. Too foggy.
"...You can't." He said in a small yet dark voice. "She... died after... we all got back."

"Oh."
It wasn't exactly a profound response. The insulation of leading a charmed life, dying over and over without apparent consequence, made the news sound strange. He heard it, but he couldn't grasp it. In his memory she was still alive, all dressed up with Charlotte beside the portal. If he sent her another text, she would answer, because she always answered, she always had her phone out-
The life hunter took a few slow steps into the room and collapsed into the chair across from Otto.
Lucky was a sickly pale color at this point, made worse by how his shirt was stained red with spilled blood. His fingers were digging into the armrests. "How...?"

"Dunno.." Otto mumbled, his voice still somehow distant despite lying straight across from Lucky. His gaze was foggily pointed at the floor as his cheek pressed against the couch's cushion. He made no move to sit proper now that he had company. He remained lying on his stomach, his limbs heavy and his head lead.
"She got hurt by Lawr... but she seemed ok for a while.. I was getting' you lot safe and I lost sight of her.. when she pushed me out of the portal she looked bad.. really bad.." His drawl was more prominent as his words drew out sluggishly. He was tired, mentally and physically.
"Life Techs got her laid down, and she talked to me for a bit..." And by talked he meant she admitted she'd planned to kill him, "but after a while she just..."
