By the MotherFather, it was frigid out.
Even Dream's thick hide afforded him little defense against the cold's sharp little fangs and bitter nips, his breath shuddering out between his dark lips. He tossed his head, stomping hooves and flicking his hair out of his eyes as he tromped through the swamp, wondering why he'd left the warm fire of his glade in the first place.
Oh. Right.
Descent had run off, darting into the woods and snow, frightened by Abandons Fear's eagle. Not that he blamed the little beast, but had the foxbun had to run quite so far into the woods? No. It was ridiculous, and he was quite close to simply abandoning his pet to his own devices. The Foxbun knew where home was...
Lady Aria Starstone OoC Notes: If you like, you can use the runaway Foxbun. He hates most kin, but he loves long hair and running his paws through manes.

Never The Water stared down at the small Foxbun who had just run into her nose. Her nose, because she'd been quiet nicely huddled down in a covered nest/leanto of sorts she'd built for herself to keep warm. She had to assume the little fellow had been as cold as she had been and decided that this 'pile of branches' was a good place. She lifted her head slowly, studying the small thing. She found herself grateful Quiet Heights, her Owlcat, was thoroughly burrowed into the warmth of the boughs, because she suspected that the two would not get along, or at least one might frighten the other. After a long moment, she spoke to the Foxbun, her head lifting some so that her long hair flowed down. "Well well. Where did you come from, and who are you trying to escape? Or what? The cold, or something worse?" She tilted her head, a bit. "You are welcome to stay in my little lair, but I don't know that you'll want to for long..."

Fascinated by the doe's long mane, the darkly colored foxbun reached up and began to fuss with the tresses. He seemed to smile as he began to tug and smooth out her hair, flicking his ears up at her words. She was pretty sounding, even if he didn't quite understand her words. She wasn't like Dreams- his voice was deep, resonant, and almost always held a hint of mystery, like there was a faint echo to it.
Speaking of the buck's voice, it could be faintly heard as he cursed, muddling through the snow after the foxbun's tracks. "Where in the name of the Crane are you, Descent? I swear on the MotherFather's beak, I'm going to tie that foxbun to my hoof if I ever find him..." he hissed out, and then paused, peering into the small nest, red eyes glinting as he peered into it.
And found his foxbun, toying with a doe's mane. She was pretty, he supposed, but he was more concerned about the foxbun first off. "I'm sorry, little doe, that my foxbun seems to have intruded... You look cold," he stated, studying her and the foxbun, who, upon hearing his master's displeased hiss, had burrowed into her hair and tried to hide.

Never blinked a little, surprised, at the way the foxbun began to play with her hair, and then smiled slowly. She was quite happy to let him, if he wished, so long as he didn't yank to hard. She stayed still, letting him continue, as she thought to herself, trying to figure out where the little fellow might have vome from. And that's when she heard the male voice, not too far off. She listened to it, her head tilting, and blinked, about to say something, when the bun burrowed into her hair. She was so taken aback by this she had no time to react before the buck's head was in her little home for the night. "I... um." Had he called her a little doe? Well now, she thought about getting offended. She was a perfectly normal sized doe after all! But then she decided not to, for he was probably focused on getting his companion back. "No no, it is all right. I assumed he was cold, to be honest, and since there was plenty of room in here, I didn't mind. As for me..." She smiled a bit. "I am all right. I am good at making a nest for warmth. It is no fire, I will admit, but my companion and I..." She glanced back to where the tip of Height's tail could be seen IF you looked for it "snuggle in together and usually stay all right for a night, when we don't find either a group with a fire or a warmer cave." She paused, then blinked a bit. "Is there... a reason he's hiding in my hair though?"

The foxbun peeked out at the male's familiar voice, and wiggled his ears, still nuzzling at the female's hair gently. He didn't want to hurt the doe, after all. "A fire, hm? He is a little cold, but that's his own fault... we were perfectly warm back at my bed... and he ran away. One of my companion's friends frightened him..." Dream muttered. "Hm... Perhaps you'd like to come to the Glade, and rest on one of the beds nearer to the fire, yeah?"

"Ahhhhhhhh I can see how that might be a problem. I would be concerned that my friend might startle him, were she not tucked away." She looks amused at the nuzzling, her face relaxed. "Mmmm a warm fire? That would be lovely. Let's see..." She paused, pondering how best to get this arranged without scaring the little bun, and yet still bringing along Quiet Heights. Finally, she said "Little fellow, if you'd like to ride on my shoulder, it would be good. I am about to stand and do not wish to knock you down, or over." Once she stood, she'd gently bump Heights, so that the owlcat could run alongside, or under, her, and the bun would not need to feel so scared.

Descent was quite used to riding atop Dream's shoulders, so he understood what she was saying... mostly. He wound his little paws into her hair, and held on as she rose, and Dream stepped back out of the way. He was rather subtle about it as he looked her over, and smiled faintly to himself. "This way, then..."
