Location: Shopping Mall; Specific Location Unknown

General debriefing: With the holiday season fast approaching, the division leaders have a very important tasks for hunters willing to step up to the challenge: brave the holiday season crowds and get some things for them. In addition, hunters are also tasked with escorting a golem fashioned after the division leader they're shopping for. Hunters will then task this golem with trying on clothes to ensure a good fit.
Mission Budget: Hunters will be issued a prepaid debit card to use. All unspent funds will be returned to Deus Ex. Any additional clothes a hunter purchases for either their division lead or themselves will come out of their own pocket.
* E class difficulty level (anyone may attempt; all hunters regardless of rank will be monitored])

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS:
- As you enter to pick up the mission, the Hunter at the lighthouse portal stops you. "Sorry, we're doing luck of the draw here." He points to a six-sided dice. A literal, six sided dungeons and dragons dice that they probably stole from Mark.
- RP rolling the dice for luck. There is an actual IC list of what the dices match up to:
1 = Allan, 2 = Aria, 3= Caelius, 4 = H, 5 = Edith, 6 = you choose, lucky you.
- After you take the gamble, the Hunter on portal duty will activate a princess golem and a shopping list. The princess golem is because the division leads hate mistakes, so any clothing you get for them better be a perfect fit and match. Once there, your hunter (and golem) will be dropped off at a mall. Roll 5d20 to determine what shops you get (see below). Visit the online site/catalogue of these sites to do your shopping, and try to get stuff which you think best matches who you have to shop for.
- Remember to refer to the request list to ensure that you're getting everything you need for that person
- If you go with more than one person, each person needs a golem (duplicates are up to you, otherwise you may reroll if you feel the RP would benefit better from different golems). Every golem will come with a separate budget. The only thing you and your group will share are the stores you get.
- * Golem Reactions: Occasionally the golem will spout a random phrase, as well as react positively/negatively to what you have selected. See list of predisposed dialogue, which you can use further down. All golems use the same dialogue, they are princess golems after all!

Budget*
- Using the stores you rolled for below, you must try to get all the items while staying in budget. Budget will depend on the golem; each golem has a different prepaid card/budget amount. Simply browse the online catalogs provided, or improvise with items you think could be found in those stores. If you don't, any additional items must come out of your own paycheck, ouch. Good luck getting something as close as possible to the contents on the list (if you can't find anything, improvise!). Also the lighthouse sentries aren't letting you back until you actually fulfill the list, out of respect and a healthy dose of fear.
- You can buy more than one item from the store.
- You can buy your own hunter additional items or purchase additional items for the lead golems out of pocket. Who knows? It might pay off in the long run...

Golem phrases:
Roll when entering a store/trying on a new piece of clothing. Improvise when needed, ie "I'm not wearing that" when entering a store can be tweaked to "I'm not wearing anything from here."

  1. "Not bad."
Effect: Golem approves of your choice.
  2. "We're not going in there."
    Effect: Reroll a store.
  3. "I'm not wearing that."
    Effect: Pick a new item.
  4. "My star barrettes are fabulous!"
    Effect: None.
  5. "I want that one instead."
Effect: Look at the item you're viewing on the page. Move two items left. Your golem wants that item instead.
  6. "Let's go over here!"
Effect: Your golem drags you to another store. Reroll if entering, roll again if you just purchased something.
  7. "Wait. I forgot something! We're going back."
Effect: Return to a previous store. If you get this on the first roll, visit the first store twice. Due to a very fussy golem, if you receive this three times you can ignore it from the fourth roll onward. The golem will be very sulky afterwards and may act like a giant wo/man-child but hey, thems the lil breaks. You also don't need to roll again, provided you haven't bought nothing yet.
  8. "Let's take a break. My treat."
Effect: "My treat" is a filthy lie. You spend 15 min at a cafe being watched uncomfortably by the golem as it attempts small chatter. Lose -$5 from your paycheck. At least the golem didn't blow its own cover by trying to eat something. If entering a store, you're pulled away before you can go in. If purchasing something, you're dragged to one immediately after.
  9. "Aren't you missing something?"
Effect: Lose something you've purchased. If you've purchased nothing, you lose the list.
  10. "Hey, nice job!"
Effect: The golem is pretty happy.
  11. "...You're joking."
    Effect: The golem is sulking.
  12. "Does this make my butt look big?"
Effect: The golem is insecure and is looking for a compliment.
  13. "So, what are your plans?"
Effect: Is the golem attempting to hit on you, or is it sincerely asking you what you want to do as a hunter?!
  14. "Can you suggest something for me?"
Effect: Pick something out. Roll 1d4. Even, the golem is happy and accepts the suggestion. Buy it. Odd, the golem rejects it.
  15. "What do you think of this?"
Effect: The golem randomly picks something out. Roll 1d4. Even, the golem is happy and buys it. Odd, the golem looks disappointed and puts it back.
  16. "Hey. You try this on too."
Effect: The golem forces you to wear the latest outfit/clothing item you purchased.
  17. "You should change your outfit too."
Effect: The golem forces you into purchasing a whole new outfit and wear it for the duration of the mission.
  18. "ERROR QUERY: LOCATION? INPUT NEEDED."
Effect: The golem looks at you blankly as shoppers around at you give you an odd look as they begin to whisper among themselves. Choose a store, any store.
  19. "..."
Effect: The golem is giving you a heavy, cold stare. You feel shamed.
  20. "I want two of these."
Effect: Double the next item on the list, ie you need two now.

* 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully. If you do not get all of the items, 1 mission reward point + look of pity from the Lighthouse Hunters, plus three days of toilet cleaning.

In addition, for going on this mission you may also choose to shop FOR YOURSELF and update your hunter's wardrobe/things. It'll come out of your own pay check however.

If you lose the list: -$25 is deducted from your paycheck before a Hunter pulls you aside and teaches you how to back the list up on your phone. If the list was on your phone to start with, -$200 to purchase a replacement phone.

Tips/Suggestions:

To move at a faster rate, roll 3d20: first roll represents what store you're going into, the second the golem's opinion of the store, and the last is the golem's reaction to buying an item. Not recommended if you're doing it in groups since doing this pretty much means you're soloing the entire time.

Can I choose which store to enter first?
That's fine. Think of the stores you roll = the least crowded. Assume you have only 2 IC hours to do this, so the stores that are open/least crowded = best chance to get everything done.

Can I buy more than one item at a store?
Yes, but be sure to roll a golem response for each item purchased!

She spent the rest of the day in silence after leaving the classroom, thinking and thinking and then thinking some more. Jack had offered to take her back to her room, but she had simply walked onwards without either him or Abbi, her mind in another world. Caelius had depleted her ability to people talk, and there was the matter of murder and misconduct and marks all weighing heavily on her. Stormy's first instinct was to call on Nevada or Gale, but she feared looking too clingy to either, regardless of their support.

Really, part of it was not being able to handle even the risk of being judged. Gale's last look to her had been inscrutable, leaving her to wallow in quiet anxiety.

No, she thought, what she needed was an excuse to leave the island, and fast. While the bracelet was off, she had yet to hear Thane speak--and by now the dracolich would have given praise or scorn for her actions. Another worry atop so many others.

Flipping her phone on, she scrolled through the contact list and landed on Abbi's name, the familiar worry she had been replaying several times over coming back. And then her cold fingers began to type quickly.

When Stormy ran, it had made everything worse. Being left in the hallway by two of her friends after watching a third be carted off, bloody and full of holes, was not the best thing in the world for Abbi. In fact, it was bad enough that she ran in the opposite direction of the pair, even if it meant a longer trek, and did not stop her running until her dorm door was pressed against her back and the bracelet was falling off her wrist to clatter to the floor. Viveca's voice had flooded her head for hours after that, had not stopped until she'd fallen asleep, curled up tight and alone under all the blankets she possessed and was not even remotely quiet until Abbi received a particularly pale visitor. That was a whole other kettle of onions on its own, so the teen just ignored it... Since she was developing a rather intense habit of ignoring that specific subject...
Thankfully a few, gloomy days spent under comforters had passed and the girl was ever so slightly warming up to the idea of rejoining public life. It would take at least another week before she really felt up to it, though her trips to the hospital to visit Finn's bedside obviously didn't count as social interaction. It was quite a surprise, then, to receive a text from Stormy of all people.

A sigh left the girl as she stood up from her position of strewn about on the floor with a collection of books in front of her. With the phone clutched in both hands, steady in the proper position to text, Abbi neglected to anchor the purple blanket that rested partially on her head and thus began to slid down to her shoulders.
Would going out with Stormy, to the mall of all places, be a good idea? She'd booked it pretty quick after the whole... Hunger Games thing and Abbi was about 50.07% sure that the older girl hated her guts. After all, the ginger girl was the reason Stormy had been convicted of murder anyways. If she hadn't protected Abbi, then she would have been as guiltless and saintlike as she always seemed.
Another sigh left Abbi as she typed out a quick message.

Thane?

Nothing.

She sighed just as her phone lit up--and then Stormy spent the next minute staring at the text message and its ridiculously cute emoticons, whose cartoonish looks were like odd rays of sunlight to her general gloom. At least Abbi seemed pretty peppy, all things considered; that was really, really nice actually.

Nothing special needed! Regular clothes only yes, they'll give us our cards and fake IDs at the Lighthouse. See you there in 15? Dress warm!

Regardless of whether Abbi agreed, Stormy was ready and at the Lighthouse within the time frame, with a few white and brown layers, a hat, and a tucked pink scarf just in case wherever they got dumped was extra frigid.

Whereas Thane seemed to continue to give Stormy the cold shoulder, Viveca had found that she should narrate all of Abbi's life.
{ Ye gonna wear that? I thought this was shoppin', not some date }
OK fine, the girl thought as she shed the skirt she had chosen for a less flashy one, deciding knee length and black a-line was perfect for shopping. A purple cable knit sweater was tossed over a pale, pink polka dotted button up with a peek out peter pan collar and Abbi wouldn't be caught dead in public without warm socks and a nice pair of slouchy charcoal boots.
{ Sure its not a date? }
An eyeroll is the only answer Viveca will receive.
A return text was sent to Stormy before Abbi too grabbed a scarf, her's black to match her skirt and shoes and dark hair bows added into her hair before she hurried out the door.

It only took her ten to get ready and three to make it to the lighthouse, hands shoved into the blessed pockets of her skirt as she made her way over. Her backpack, a pink teddy bear that hung off her shoulders, was stuffed with a list a mile long for her friends, a snack or two and definitely her sweet runic camera find. Because friend selfies... Maybe...
Without much in the way of dramatics, the girl spotted the more forest fairy looking teen and stuck a hand into the air to wave as she hustled the last bit of the way to the lighthouse.
"Heeeeeyyyyy!" If Stormy paid attention to any of Abbi's previous greetings, she would notice the guarded edge to it. But the teen still smiled, at least.

Stormy did indeed notice the subtle edge but tried to act like she didn't; being this sensitive to people wasn't doing her any favors. "Hey!" she called back with her customary bright smile, hands coming to her cheeks as she started to coo. "Oooo, I love your outfit! Maybe you should give me fashion tips while we're over there."

Yes, let's focus on the mission, not on the suffering. Much easier this way.

"Ohmygosh and your backpack ahhhhhhh~" She gave an unabashed but soft squeal. "Michelangelo could use a friend! I'll show you him afterwards if you want. He's this red panda plushie I got in Austria--" But then Stormy stopped as she noted the techs on duty were giving her strange looks. She probably ought to press them onwards.

"Right, sorry! So . . ." Following instructions, she took the dice and rolled. Oh, Allan! She'd only briefly met the Sun lead before, but he was a really super peppy guy, and his list seemed fun to do! Although she wondered if the budget was good enough . . .

Seeing Stormy respond as though nothing was wrong did wonders for Abbi's own feelings on the matter, for any hesitations she had dissolved the moment the other girl breathed out the first note of her sweetness. A sheepish smile was given as the teen stammered out her thanks for the compliment about her outfit, one hand tugging on a pigtail.
"Th-thanks! But its not as cute as your outfit! You layer stuff like wow really well... I bet I would look homeless if I tried that..." Mostly because her clothing was not necessarily meant to layer, like those pieces obviously were. But the girl is quick to jump around so that she can literally wiggle the bear at Stormy.
"I ordered it offline! Like some Chinese site I think, it took a month and a half to get here but I love it! And wooooow you went to Austria? That's so coooool...." Someone was mega jelly... Stormy was so cultured and sweet and cute... Super, duper unfair.

At first, Abbi didn't notice the looks from the techs. Odd looks were pretty normal for her, nothing out of the ordinary, but when Stormy noticed, she did too. With a jump, Abbi nodded and hurried after the girl.
"Y-yeah... Let's get going!" The dice was taken with relish and rolled hard enough that it fell off the table provided for it to roll upon, but the tech who was surveying their mission's beginning was the serious sort who dropped to his knees and announced she had rolled a perfect score. That meant she got to pick... Not really sure what her options were, Abbi just blurted out "The pretty one!"
That apparently translated into a golem being activated and turned into a very pretty brunette.
Oh. Well then.

The list handed to Abbi, however, was a bit.... Boring.
"She just wants clothes?" How did anyone waste an opportunity like Christmas by asking for clothes?
PostPosted: Wed Dec 04, 2013 8:10 pm

She was still transfixed on the bear backpack for a moment. "Oh, thank you~! It's so cute, though . . ." Maybe the mall they went to would have the same sort of stuff? Somehow??

Stormy watched as Abbi was allowed to pick whoever she wanted and landed with . . . Aria. Lucky. "She is the pretty one," the Mist noted with a smile before turning to scan her list. Okay, the Pikachu stuff and the laser pointer was easy, but what was a . . . Naruto . . . kohu . . . bankai . . . wh-what . . . . . . . . Confusion was very obvious on her face as she re-read the words and blinked owlishly.

"I think he wrote half of this in a different language," she mumbled. Stormy turned to Abbi with a sheepish look as the Sun leader's golem came to them, bright-eyed and grinning widely. "Um, you wouldn't mind if maybe we could trade? Miss Aria's my division leader, and I don't know half this stuff . . ." She turned the list towards the Moon so she could see for herself.

To be honest, Abbi was swelling with the compliment from Stormy so that she kind of sparkled while the girl was given a golem. Mild curiosity had Abbi shifting her gaze from her own list to the one given to Stormy for the red haired man and before she could stop herself, the teen hopped up and down and practically grabbed the list from the other girl's hand. She only paused when she realized how very rude that would be, but one hand was tugging on the edge of the paper quite vehemently.
"Oh man! This guy is into Bleach and Naruto ehhh AND POKEMON?!" The inner nerd that rested pretty close to the surface burst forth now as the teen danced around Stormy. "Its not another language! Actually, well yeah part of it is but its like-- Really cool stuff!" Obviously! How did Stormy not know about anime?!
Thankfully she at least voiced what Abbi was thinking and with a bright grin the teen shoved her list at Stormy and yoinked the one for Allan for herself. She hustled over to the golem and linked an arm with it, grinning up at the fellow red head before she pointed at the portal.
"Christmas shopping AHOY!"

Without further ado, she and the golem both literally hopped through and were spit out at the entrance of what Abbi could only assume was a mid-western mall. The weather was chilly, but not as cold as she was used to for this time of the year and a few of the mall patrons coming and going were sporting cowboy boots. That was... Rather interesting...
"Do you think we should split up? We can better cover more area that way... And I mean I guess we can always text and stuff too!" The girl looked hopeful, but ever so slightly down that she wouldn't get to shop with Stormy more closely. There were so many things she wanted to talk about and ask about... Mainly boys. But she only stubbed one toe against the sidewalk, still linked with the golem, as she waited for Stormy's reply and tried not to look too puppyish about what she really wanted.

Oh good, she knew these things, great, yes, awesome. She broke into a bigger smile as Abbi danced around happily, clutching at Aria's list with relief. She might not know the division lead too well, but this would be a great ice breaker! And hopefully make up for everything she did wrong in the trials..."Ahoy!" Stormy echoed enthusiastically as she took her golem by the hand and followed after the Moon.

Naturally, the mall was quite busy today. It wasn't the desperate rush for gifts just yet, but there were more people in groups now, she figured; family visiting, friends coming over. Don't think like that, she had to tell herself before she could start wondering what her family was doing at this point.

"Umm, I guess it really depends on how these guys feel!" she replied, patting Aria's shoulder (it felt so weird to do so, but there you go). "It looks like a big place, but we've got cellphones, yeah! You can text me as much as you want!" The Mist golem was already walking, and Stormy also pat Abbi's shoulder in passing as well. "Barring us running into each other at a store, let's meet back here in uh . . . half an hour?"

"Yeah! A... A half hour sounds great!" Abbi finally replied, turning her disappointed look to Allan specifically as they walked into the mall. The crowds didn't bother her so much since she was able to cling to his side to avoid the press of other bodies. Since this was just a false construct of a person, the girl didn't bother worrying about its feelings on having a tiny teenager hanging off its arm, and she figured at the most people would think they were siblings.
One final wave was given to Stormy before Abbi was drug off into the first store. Thankfully, it was one she was pretty comfortable in and fairly certain she would be able to find something of use Christmas-present wise. At the entrance the Not! Allan stops to stare at the store front, black signs proclaiming sales and pop culture references. Its startling that he's stopped and Abbi has to double back to tug him forward.
"What up, bro?"
"Not bad." Errr ok?

Once inside, and after being distracted by a really cute Harry Potter t-shirt, Abbi pulled out the list to peruse. Alright, alright, alrightttt....
"Looks like Pokemon is going to be our goal here! OK BRAH. Let's get you fitted..." It didn't take the teen long to find the collection of pokemon shirts and she was able to easily grab a Pikachu and friends, as well as a solo Pikachu shirt right off the bat. It took her some digging through the sale pile to extract the Naruto shirt and she finally has to break down and ask a sales associate if they have any Pikachu socks. The encounter leaves her flushed (because socializing with honest people who can't hear their weapon in their heads what ah noo!), but it will at least be done. Just to be safe, Abbi shoves the Not! Allan into the fitting room to try on the shirts. While she waits (He seems to be having trouble with dressing himself), she pulls out her phone.

Wow, this was a huge place . . . Stormy's head kept swiveling around to capture everything in view as they walked. One place in particular looked pretty colorful, and upbeat pop-ish music was playing--

"...You're joking," grumbled not!Aria.

"Maybe we'll find something that works here!" Stormy said nevertheless, tugging the sulking golem along inside. As she began to peruse items, her phone went off. Three items already? Wow, Abbi worked fast . . . Lucky! But she couldn't help but smile upon reading Prince Charming; the Moon couldn't begin to understand how very appropriate those words were.

The first shirt Abbi gives him is set aside for a later time, for an unknown reason she can't even begin to understand, but he appears out of the door a few moments later in the pikachu shirt. Abbi nods at it, but Not! Allan speaks before she can.
"I want two of these."
The practical side of her understands how two shirts could be beneficial, but the still practical side of her knows they are on a limited budget.
"Why do you need two--Wait come back!" The golem is gone back into the room, but not wanting to offend, Abbi rushes off for a second shirt. On the way back, she sends another text.

That's good to hear! Do you guys on lotsa dates and stuff? How long have you been dating? Did you have lots of boyfriends back home?

Maybe Stormy would reconsider her first text back...
The next shirt is forgotten as the golem dramatically exits the room with a proclamation of "Wait! I forgot something! We're going back!".
Abbi, totally confused, calls after him, "Wait! We haven't gone anywhere else! Come back!". The sales associate looking for the Pikachu socks (a tall, very forward young man who is more than happy to help in a leery sort of way) returns and looks after the wayward golem. He looks at Abbi and she smiles as sweetly as she can before she bolts off to drag Allan back. He might be sulky, but she's almost done.
Or she thinks she is... Sending the associate back for one more pair of socks on the insistence of Allan's request, the teen also shoves him back into the fitting room because he has one more shirt to try on dammit.

"See, there's some nice wintery stuff here!" Stormy pulled the golem along and pointed out the scarves first, which Not!Aria seemed to approve of. While she slid those on to try, Stormy pulled her phone out.

Those were some . . . eager questions. While always happy to chat, Stormy had always been hesitant as far as personal questions.

Only been on one; like I said, busy! We've been dating

She had to pause and think about it, surprised at the number. The golem whined at her selection of coats and the matching pants and picked out a different coat instead, pouting as she tucked both under her arm and went to try them on.

Quote:
We've been dating four months, five at the end of December
Sorry to hear about the dying though. But it means you're a real trooper for sticking around!

A few minutes later, Not!Aria came back, still glum about the coats but at least not protesting as she went to the cashier. Afterwards, Stormy fired off another text as she and the golem left the store arm and arm.
