Rae was quite happy to be in the Serenia countryside. The air was clear and crisp and moist, unlike the harsh air of the desert. Even the slight wintery chill in the air was not too much, and the little bandaged and disguised oblivionite was having a great time. Somehow, he had managed to convince his mother that he could make the delivery trip alone. The roads were safe, right? Safer than the Malro Desert, definitely, and he had lived there for years. his delivery spot was in the forest, not too far, and he wanted some time to explore by himself. People were facinating, but sometimes the boy wanted to be alone with the sky, the warm light, and his journal. He was walking through an exposed part of the road when he felt his heartbeat skip and the hair on the back of his neck strain against the bandages to stand on end. He looked around cautiously, puzzled. There was nothing around, nothing that he could see anyway. Then he looked up. He jumped back as a massive shining claw raked where he had been standing moments before and an enormous shape landed in front of him. He drew his sword almost reflexively shaking. It was a dragon, and it was big and pale and it was looking at him with such wrath that he cried out, his blood running cold and his throat going dry. He didn't even need to see the two more that circled overhead to know that he was outmatched by a great deal and that he was about to be eaten.

Suluksati was taking a leisurely stroll in the Serenia woods. It was always nice to not have to save a dragon and to just be her own heroic self. It let her ego recover from the many time she had screwed up. Unfortunately, a loud roar broke the silence, followed by a smaller cry. Her bones felt cold and she took off immediately, flapping awkwardly for a few seconds until her wings caught the wind, and heading to the source of the commotion.
It was a child, set upon by...
No. Those were Aedaun dragons. Why were they doing this?! She felt pained, but it was but a child of some sort, and she could not let it be harmed. She came in as fast as her wings could take her, and cast a shield of holy light around the child right as the dragon tried to rake it with a claw, which skittered off the sparkling shield.
"Stop!" she cried, "Cease! Why do you attack this innocent?" a mere child would not be hunting dragons, certainly not the Aedaun. Even a delusional nut as herself knew that.
The dragon growled. "Would you allow soudanan filth on your territory?" it snarled, irritated at her shield, "stand aside, Aedaun Drakein and allow me to clean this stain from our sunlit lands."
What was the dragon talking about? Suluksati alighted by the child, and caught a whiff of his scent. Desert sand, old cloth, Kargoth dung, and... Oblivionite. Oh. She understood now.
"Leave him be, I will escort him away...." it wasn't right to have an oblivionite on Serenia, but neither was it right to kill the child.
"This is your last warning Drakein, and I only give it because I know of you. Stand aside. This is not your fight."
"I cannot allow him to be killed, Oblivionite or no." Said Suluksati, enveloping the child with her wing.
"Hypocrite!" roared the dragon, snapping at her with it's vast, sharp jaws. It's fellows roared as well and began circling into position for a dive. Suluksati shoved the child out of danger and dodged with a growl. It seemed like today would turn into a bad day after all.

Samael liked Serenia. It was by no means his home continent, but it was bright, welcoming, and the Gaili knew he had friends out in these woods. Of course, they were all children and unable to really defend themselves... He'd been more like a caretaker that a friend when he'd met most of them... Hm... It had been a long while since he'd actually seen any of his Orderite allies. Mayhaps he should pay a few of his friends a visit while he was here. After all, with Carrion and Levi still waiting at home, who knew how long it would be before he could get out and about again... Sam nodded to himself and looked around. He'd been near both Sueno's and Mae's houses at one point, so maybe he could figure out how to get to one of them from here... Even if all this blasted forest looked the same. Mae's home at least had the lake as a landmark... Maybe he'd start there! Surely he could find such a large body of water without incident. The trek through the woods was slow and uninteresting, compared to all the excitement going on for him lately. The sun glistened through the greenery, leaving dappled patches of light across the ground. The birds flitted about, chirping pleasant calls to each other. The twigs crackled beneath his two feet and the wind rustled through the leaves, tousling his long, platinum blond hair. Sam hated to admit that he was almost... bored. It was the sounds of chatter that drew him from his reverie, and Sam grinned as he recognized the voices. He moved through the trees eagerly, coming to a pause when he could spot a familiar purple head through the tree trunks. The Orderite lad had grown a bit taller since he'd last seen him, though the Gaili could already see that he was no less vocal by the way he yipped in glee as he skated around an icy track. Darke flew nearby, a chilly frozen jet escaping his maw to splatter the ground in a frozen coat slick enough for Mae to slide across without toppling over. They were such a strange pair. Sam could only shake his head at them as he watched through the trees. But! He wouldn't gain anything from watching. Pushing his way through the greenery, he waved and called out, "Mae! Darke!" It was clear enough that the boy hadn't been expecting to hear his name, and he made a sharp turn on the ice that sent him sprawling to the ground with a yelp. He pushed himself up onto his elbows, glaring daggers at the newcomer. "Who are you?" He demanded curtly, clearly not recognizing the Gaili in his new form. It certainly wasn't an Orderite, though. Mae's first guess was Dovaa, but here on Serenia, that seemed unlikely. He huffed and jumped to his feet, not wanting to be seen in any type of weakened state to the stranger. Sam was practically beside himself with glee. These two didn't even recognize him! That's how changed he was! Truly stunning! He decided not to tell them. See how long it went on. It was Darke who, after leaning in for an inquisitive sniff, muttered, "Sam?" His feathered head tipping in confusion and wonder. This strange, scaled two-legger had a strikingly similar scent to the Gaili Drakein he'd met a long time ago. Mae relied too much on looks, so he'd probably never recognize Sam like this. But Darke looked up to the crystals adorning the Drakeinian's head, and caught sight of an amused tail-flick behind his legs. It had to be! Mae's teal gaze snapped from his Bonded companion back to the Drakeinian, obviously giving him a more careful once-over through narrowed eyes. "No! No way!" The Orderite scoffed, giving his wings a disbelieving flutter. He crossed his arms and glanced away. It hadn't been that long since he'd last seen the Drakein... Certainly not long enough to take a whole new form, right? His gaze skated inconspicuously back to the Drakeinian. He did have similar markings to Sam's on his bare arms... "Is it really?" Mae questioned suspiciously. Sam could only chuckle, his heavy tail waving behind him in amusement. "Yes." He admitted finally. "I became able to take this form not long ago...""That's great, Sam!" Darke congratulated, beaming pleasantly. He'd also grown up quite a bit since their last encounter. The Gaili didn't look quite as large, now... They probably could've continued chatting amongst themselves for quite a while, but the echoing sound of dragon roars cut them off. Sam and Darke turned toward the sound, though Mae's less sensitive human ears could hardly pinpoint where it had come from. Sam grinned. He was suddenly eager to show off his Drakeinian abilities. "We haven't fought together in a long while..." He hinted slowly, turning his attention back to the boy. Mae was already swinging his leg over Darke's back. "Right." The Orderite agreed. "We'll show you all that we've learned as well." He smirked. Chuckling, Darke kicked into the air, with Sam close behind. From the sky, they could easily spot the dragons circling overhead. Even with his two-legger eyesight, Mae could recognize Aedauns. He scowled. The last time he'd fought one of these beasts, he'd been with that Hybrid girl, Erionda. She'd really shown him up with her strength... Hmph! Well, he wasn't going to lose to her! He definitely didn't need her help to take these dragons on. "Let's go, Darke." He growled, patting the Alikein's neck as Darke dove between the two airborne dragons, shooting shards of ice from his maw at the creatures and causing them to scatter away from his attacks with screeches of surprise. Sam doubted those two could really take on two Aedauns by themselves, but maybe they could at least hold them off while he checked on whatever they were attacking in the ground. He landed on a sturdy tree branch and glanced down. "Eh, Sulu?" He blinked, hardly noticing the boy she covered. ((Lumps all her characters together. XP 1013/1800))

Rae cowered, not entirely sure what was going on, between all the roaring and clashing and shrieks. As far as he could tell, the feathered drakein before him had just saved his life. And, also as far as he could tell, she might very well lose hers in the process. That didn't set well with him. It just was not right. He doubted he could take on these dragons and win, but he could at least help his savior. He saw the grounded dragon about to strike her down with a powerful blow, and he ran for it's side. He knew Kargoths, and Kargoths were large. Their side was a weak point for them, and hitting their side was easy enough. It was like hitting a barn door- though with his luck, he'd miss even that. He ran in, keeping to its blind spot and striking the dragon with his sword. He didn't stop to assess the results of his strike- likely pitiful and useless- before he ran as fast as he could out of reach of the dragon's claws and back towards the white-feathered drakein. It was not much for damage, but Raemos had been fortunate in agitating a nerve cluster- it hurt the dragon (or perhaps just annoyed it) enough to distract it, sending its claws skittering on the ground, and sending it into an angry frenzy to bite the little oblivionite gnat, turning around and snapping at him briefly. Raemos was grateful for his agility as he ran from sharp claws and snapping fangs, and he hoped that the drakein would continue to protect him and take the advantage he was giving her. Please.
Raemos was so preoccupied with trying to stay alive and at least try to be useful, he didn't notice the commotion in the sky, or the visitor to the ground. He was just trying to survive...

Fluffesu That was... difficult to read O.O Suluksati dodged the Dragon's claw attack easily as it was distracted by the child, and lashed out with an attack of her own. Her magic would be useless here, she knew. She was fighting a dragon of her own clan. The thought saddened her, but in the end, they were being neither virtuous nor just... They were being cruel. Clan of light or no, she could not allow this. As it chased the boy, she charged, flapping to give her leap extra air, and came down on the great dragon with a flurry of teeth and fangs and claws. She channelled her frustration into her attacks- at the dragon, at herself, at the hopelessness of her quest, clawing red gashes into the dragon's pristine and shimmering white hide. She flapped away as it turned to strike her, using her agility in the air to loop back in and claw at it's eyes. The dragon roared, blinded by the blood that dripped from its brow. It thrashed, trying to claw her, the boy, either of them. She flapped higher, gaining altitude. She owed it to them to make this fast. Like a falcon, she dove in, talons outstretched, but it moved at the last second, a lucky clawstrike ripping her flesh and staining her feathers with her own blood. She landed, her magic shimmering around her, repairing the damage as fast as she was able. That, at least, she could do. With a cry, she pounced again, tearing into it and giving the boy time to run away. Run... please run... she thought to herself. This was bad enough, and if she died here, she at least wanted to know that she had saved a life today, even as she was taking this one. Midair, she chanced to look up, and saw, in the sky, a drakein and an Orderite, taking on the two above, searing them with icy cold. Help had arrived, for better or worse. She set into the Aedaun, clawing it and pushing it back from the Oblivionite boy. It was downed, finally, blood flooding from its wounds. It was then that she heard a voice both familiar and... not. "Do you know me?" she asked, eyes wild and feathers in dissarray, "Or have you simply heard of me?"Suluksati the Hypocrite, Suluksati the fool, Suluksati the Deranged. She was in a foul mood, and danger had not left the skies... or- and she did not realize it- the ground. The seemingly downed Aedaun behind her moved, its wounds healing enough for it to slowly make it to its feet, its eyes fixed on the annoyance, the hypocrite. (800/1800)

Raemos was watching the dragon, however. He knew how things that seemed dead one minute could be alive and screaming and fighting the next. His father had once come back covered in wounds and had told him about a predator that had done that to him. He had thought it was dead, and it had leapt up and struck him as he went to collect its corpse. He'd had to make quite sure it was dead. That was all Mallew had told Rae, but Rae could imagine the rest. And then there was also that time when one of their Kargoth Cows had been sick and they had thought she was dead, but just as they were going to drag her off to the barn to deal with her, she'd opened her eyes and stood up, happy as ever. Either way, when the dragon fell, Raemos still didn't feel safe. he approached, sword at the ready, and when he saw the wounds start to close, shimmering with magic, he knew. "LOOK OUT" he screamed, his voice tinny with adrenaline as he charged towards the dragon, as the aedaun rose from seeming death.

DraconicFeline Eh? I hope I didn't make too many mistakes. XP "Sam speech" "Mae speech""Darke speech"Sam blinked and tilted his head at the question, a curtain of blond spilling over his shoulders. They'd met not very many moons ago at all! How could Sulu not recogni-! A wisp of silken hair flapped into his face. Oh, yeah. As he looked on at the unfolding battle, he'd nearly forgotten... And he supposed that she was probably a bit occupied to be deciphering such things on her own. She seemed to have taken this one down, though. The Gaili rose from his crouch on the branch, standing tall over them. "It's Sam." He replied with a tiny smile. "We met a while ago... I had my son with me." He reminded her, curious gaze falling on the boy she covered. "I see you've adopted you own little one." He teased, fairly certain she'd done no such thing. Though, from what he understood of her, it probably wasn't completely impossible... It was then that he noticed the flutter of wings from behind her. The felled dragon had risen again, and the little two-legger was after it like he even stood a chance. Sam frowned and leaped from his perch, landing heavily on the ground. With the impact, a rolling wave careened from the earth, both smashing into the dragon and pushing the youngster back. Meanwhile, Mae and Darke were having their own aerial issues. They were hard-pressed to avoid two Aedauns in the air, despite Darke's speed. The only thing that gave them a snowball's chance in Eowyn was the frosty magic Darke shot at them to keep them at bay. One such blast caught one of the beasts right in the wing, freezing it over and making it too heavy to fly. It dropped to the ground with a screech, writhing and batting its wings in the hopes of remaining airborne. Mae grinned, and Darke paused in his assaults to watch it fall. In the delay, the other Dragon flew at them, slamming his tail into Darke's side and sending him flipping and flying through the air. Darke yowled and beat his wings, shooting jets of ice out in his uncertainty. As Darke flipped, Mae lost his grip and slipped from his Bonded's back while the Alikein struggled to regain his balance. The Orderite disappeared into the treetops before Darke even had a chance to chase him. The sound of snapping branches accented his fall, accompanied by an occasional squeak of pain until Mae landed longways on a thick branch. As momentum pushed him off, he slipped to the side and was able to wrap his fingers around the thick branch to halt his descent. Scrapes and scratches littered his bare arms and face, and there were more rips than could be counted in his clothes. That had actually hurt more than he bargained for... He glanced down, finding the ground wasn't much farther away... He released his hold, falling the rest of the way down and landing with a quiet groan. He could feel Darke's panic for him through the Bond. 'I'm okay... I'll make it...' He told the Alikein through their link. He glanced around. That other Aedaun should be around here... And Sam shouldn't be too far away. ((1548/1800))

Suluksati stared, a little closer. She had met this drakeinian before, but she hadn't met many. Surely she would have... Then it hit her. That Gaili she'd entered the crypt with. "Sam?!" she said in surprise. He was a drakeinian now?! Had he truly been that strong. Suddenly, she felt a bit sheepish, and not a little crestfallen. Now he would see her true colors, wouldn't he, and that was a shame. She had thought she had made a friend of Samael, and the thought had given her cause to smile for many a miserable night. Now, though, now he would know that she was a dragon loving hypocrite. Unless she didn't tell him. Or lied. But lying hurt, and it was so hard. Maybe she wouldn't have to. Maybe she could...
"For the moment... yes." she did have a tendancy to temporarily adopt small things, didn't she... The thought was shaken from her mind by Raemos's cry and by the surge of the gaili magic. She spun around to see the Aedaun recovering from its blow, its fangs bared and seeking her blood. Damn. She should have remembered that it shared her healing abilities! With a roar and a glance to the boy to make sure he was all right, she charged at it, darting around with her superior mobility to try to get it on the back of its head.
She latched onto it, clawing and biting as it thrashed, trying to shake her off. She scrabbled with her hindclaws, holding onto the increasingly slippery surface. The dragon was exposed now in its angry thrashing as it reared up, claws scrabbling at her tail to pull her off. It was all she could do to hold on...

Fluffesu Nah, its just the single post style thats getting me Raemos tumbled back as the wave of earth shoved him away. It hadn't been a good idea in the first place, but he'd been trying to help... it was then that he noticed the figure on the branch- a strange sort of creature. Was it a Dovaa? No, the feet were off... but there was no time for such musings- he would ask later if he survived through this! He looked up to see an orderite fall from the sky. Why it did not summon its wings, he did not know, but he did know that it could get seriously hurt. He ran towards where Mae fell, wincing at the sounds of cracking twigs and yelps of pain, arriving just as Maeron landed. He hadn't noticed the Orderite before, and could see that he was older than he was, probably an adept by now, not a mere useless apprentice. "Are you allright?" he asked, offering a hand up. His disguise miraculously held- his goggles in place and his bandages made even more interesting from the dirt that now covered them. He looked like an Orderite, maybe one that dyed his hair, though it was hard to tell from the dirt. Samael's protection had helped him in more ways than just the immediate not-getting eaten. "Is there anything you need? Anything I can do?" Is there anything useful that I can do? he wondered, At all? All he could do, it seemed, was cower away from the terrifying roars of dragons above and below. Was he a coward? No. His father hadn't raised him to be one. He just... didn't know what to do. He looked up at the Drakein fighting in the sky, and longed to help him in some way, but what could he do, bound as he was to the ground and unable to fly? "Anything at all?"(1083/1800)

DraconicFeline Really? I think it's more like an actual story this way. "Sam speech" "Mae speech""Darke speech"Sam grinned and nodded, showing off his array of pointed teeth. He was really starting to appreciate that shocked and awed reaction he'd been getting. He hated to say that it was going to his head, but it definitely was. Samael turned his attention back on the Aedaun. Still up, huh? He had to remind himself that despite how much he'd grown, he probably still couldn't take on one of these powerful dragons on his own... So it was a good thing he wasn't on his own. He already knew Suluksati could be very useful companion, and she went on to prove herself again as she bit into the dragon. Sam darted in. He was starting to get a hang of this two-legger stuff, even if he was still probably better off on all fours... He crouched on the ground just beneath the dragon, scooping up two short spikes of earth. With a rumbling growl, he kicked into the air, a small jet coming from the ground to give him an extra shove. Snarling, he slammed his two weapons into the exposed flesh beneath the dragon's chin, the earthen spires driving up to impale its skull right through its jaws. As it fell forward, Sam pushed away from it to keep from the much larger, heavier beast from landing atop him. If he glanced up, he could still see Darke in the sky, struggling to get away from the last airborne beast, but... "Hey, where'd those two-leggers get off to...?"Mae glanced to the side, his eyes landing on the other boy. He blinked in surprise. It was just a kid. A little squirt like him being attacked by these Aedauns? He was lucky there were so many people around to come to his rescue... "One of those dragons fell around here..." Mae muttered, taking a hesitant step forward, as he was weary of shifting his weight around too much. "We should find it and finish it off before it gets back in the air. I don't think Darke can distract two of them..." He looked up to see only greenery. Occasionally, he'd catch the fleeting glimpse of his companion diving away from one of the Aedaun's attacks. But Darke couldn't last forever. "C'mon. Stay close to me." Mae commanded, hoping that his order didn't risk the kid's life even further... They didn't have to go far before the sounds of the Dragon struggling to free its frozen wing could be heard. Mae peeked at it from behind a tree, watching as it beat it wing against the ground to chip some of the ice away. "Tch. Looks like we don't have much time to waste." Despite the soreness he felt, he slipped from his cover, smoothly unholstering his slingblade from across his back. With a battle cry, he flicked the weapon open and then flung it out towards the unprepared beast, only to have it knocked away by a heavy claw. Mae's shocked stare met the blazing eyes of another beast, appearing in the nick of time to spare his fellow Aedaun. At first Mae thought it was the one from the sky, that Darke had been bested. But he only had to reach out and feel his companion's presence to know that was not the case. This was another dragon. "There are more." The Orderite grumbled unenthusiastically. ((2107/3000))

Fluffesu Im a firm proponent of 'when in rome', so I will switch to your style :3 Also, 3000? Are we fighting 10 Aedaun?! Suluksati had not missed the commotion in the sky. As the dragon met its end, she surged away from it with mighty beats of her wings, not wanting to see it fall, but knowing that it did. "I don't know" she called, deciding not to mention that he was a two legger right now himself. It wasn't her style, and it wasn't the time. She hated to think that they might be in danger out of her sight, but there was someone in danger- serious danger- in her view, and she could not abandon her fellow drakein. These dragons would not be reasoned with, nor would they back down. She had resigned herself to their fates. "Please, find them!" she called down to Samael as she spiraled up towards the struggling bonded, "Keep them from harm!" She would hate to see more terrible bloodshed then necessary come out of this already miserable day, and the thought of the two young- for the orderite was quite young too, she thought- magescans dead- though they were magescans and were hunting dragons- still chilled her soul. "Yes sir!" said Raemos, responding automatically to the command as he would to one from his own father. He blushed in embarassment immediately after, the flush of his dark face hidden beneath the bandages, but he made no apology. Obviously this orderite boy was far more experienced and powerful than little Raemos. He envied the older boy's weapon- it seemed so much less cumbersome than his cheap and probably secondhand training sword, but he raised his all the same and prepared to back up the other, stopping short as the Aedaun appeared before them. "More?!" he squeaked, feeling very cold. Just one of these monstrous dragons was plenty, and he would rather there be zero. But now there were... oh, how many, but definitely more than one. "Do we do..." Raemos realized he didn't know the other's name, and tried to hide the shuddering of his knees with that other awkwardness, "... Sir?" He had ideas, but it was hard for them to be heard over the din of panic in his head. He raised his sword as his father had trained him to do, preparing to fight despite the terror he felt. Suluksati knew she had little time as the Aedaun's jaws began to close around the Drakein's form. She tapped into her magic and shot upward, a ball of radiant light, reforming to set a glimmering shield around Darke and rap the Aedaun on the nose, as if it was a misbehaving hatchling. The dragon drew back and sent a magical blast of holy light at her. It was easy to deflect it away from her and the young drakein with her wings, and she engaged the one in the sky, clawing at it's sensitive eyes and wheeling back around to check on the drakein's status. "Are you all right?" she asked, passing parallel to him, but she could see he was injured. She didn't stop to see if he was bonded or not- in fact, she had no idea yet. Dragons were unfortunately the priority here. She strengthened the shield spell with a touch, overloading it into a healing shield. "Be careful!" she called, making another pass at the dragon, looking for an opening to end it quickly. She could see the anger and ferocity in its eyes, and the sharp singing of air around its slicing claws. It was not backing down. Making it's suffering short was the least she could do. But it was playing smart, guarding against her attacks with it's size and scales. She needed a distraction, some sort of element of surprise. (1894/3000)

DraconicFeline Haha, I didn't mean to change your posting style. XD Well, it's 300 words per character, per dragon fought. We're each using two characters (Mae and Darke count as 1 character for me, since they're Bonded), so that's 600 words per dragon. There are 5 Dragons, so 5x600 is 3000! "Sam speech" "Mae speech""Darke speech"Sam glanced to Suluksati, giving her a tiny nod as she departed. If she was off to defend Darke, a Drakein she didn't even know, then the least he could do was keep her young charge safe. Hopefully, he was with Mae and not in immediate danger. He glanced around curiously, until he heard a crashing in the trees. Surely that was where he should head off to. With a huff, he unfurled his spectral wings and glided through the trees until the two boys and their adversaries came into view. Mae was facing off against two full-grown Aedauns, his blade raised and his face dark. "Mae!" The Drakeinian shouted as he dove to the defense of the boys. The dragon reared up and lashed out at them, but Sam shoved himself between them, pulling up a shield of earth to protect the two small boys. "I can handle this." Mae scoffed, darting from behind the shield. He jumped over a blast of light, weaved around a thick tail, and charged forward to slam his slingblade into one of the beasts chest. With a roar, it batted him away, sending him skipping across the ground and slamming into a nearby tree. Sam snorted in amusement and peeked around his shield. There were three of the dragons on the ground, gathered tightly into the thick trees. The one Mae had stabbed was bleeding pretty badly, but shaking off the pain nonetheless. The dragons were large and the space was small, and that was to be their undoing. "Are you alright?" The Gaili questioned, turning to the younger of the two-leggers. "Keep on your toes. Don't be rash, like that one." Samael muttered, gesturing to the purple-headed Orderite now rising to his feet. As another jet of light shot towards Mae, he jumped up, grabbing a branch and hauling himself into the tree. It was the first time he had a decent look at what he was facing. Certainly more than he bargained for, but not so much that he felt disheartened. Darke flew backwards, shaking his head as the other Drakein's magic separated him from his foe. "Yes." The Aiskala nodded. "I think so. Just a few scrapes." He assured her, gliding along at her side. He dove away to avoid being seared with those claws. He flew forward, blowing a cold wind at its eyes and sending freezing splinters from the feathers on his wings to slow the beast down. ((2517/3000))
