It was the first time in over a year that he completed his morning routine alone and, despite his attempt at denial, it felt very different. He had become accustomed to his granddaughter Arabella running along beside him, asking questions and constantly pushing herself so that she may one day claim to have beaten her reputable grandfather. His heart, though concealed by a robust plate of armor, stung a little as he recalled their last conversation. She was of the opinion that he had wasted her time with all of his ‘nonsense’ and therefore felt she could learn what she deemed to be important elsewhere. Though he realized she was severely misguided in her perceptions, he could do nothing to stop her and simply let her make her own decision concerning her future. Turning his emerald eyes skyward he sent positive thoughts her way, hoping that she would find what she was looking for without injury and that she would return home soon. With that in mind he turned to look at the thicket he and Bella had called home for what seemed like a century. After a moment of silence he determined that she had either decided to sleep in or she was busy doing something that did not require his assistance. “I’ll be out for a walk then.” He called over his shoulder as he turned his back on his home and began his patrol.
He would never admit to his mate that his walks actually consisted of him searching their territory for any sign of a wayward Kalona looking to dine on fresh meat. Upon hearing of the invasion he grew more protective of his family, swearing that a beast of that magnitude would never gain entrance here. He had already lost one he cared about; he would not allow it to happen again. His ears pricked and he assumed an offensive position as a shape distorted by trees flashed in his peripherals. He stood dead silent, waiting for whatever it was to move again and alert him to its location. When no further sound was made he warily began to walk again, holding his head high and stomping his armored feet. They would know he was not fearful and, should they wish to attack him, he would not be taken down so easily. It was not his place to hide, but theirs.
After a while he allowed the idea that he was being followed to slowly leave him, remaining guarded to some degree none the less. Coming to a stop before the stream where he had met his mate he dipped his head and began tearing at the sweet grass growing there. He hadn’t realized how hungry he was until the first mouthful reaching his gut and he was prodded to eat more. His tail swished lazily at a few flies that threatened to land on him, giving him an air of negligence. On the contrary, his ears moved every which way and he would look up occasionally and scan the area around him. He hadn’t ever let anyone get the drop on him, and he would not start today.

Flicking her eyes open, the young mare awoke to the sound of birds chirping on the branch beside her. She figured it was time for her to get up and once she lifted her head, the bird fluttered off to make noise elsewhere. She rose up from her perch and even though it changed to different trees, she still felt like each was her permanent home. While her family resided deep in the forest, she preferred the high top life of being able to look down at things wandering below her. She traveled for days sometimes, but always found a quiet little tree to rest in no matter what unless there was a harsh storm. She didn’t understand why and thought it was a safety issues, but eventually it became a part of who she was.
Once she awoke enough to get a clear look of her surroundings, she jumped down landing in the soft grass below her liking that the weather wasn’t too harsh today. She couldn’t stand being out in the cold and unlike most she would try to hide away as much as she could when it snowed. She even grew the odd habit of collecting berries and housing them in a cave closer to the family lands. She blamed that one on her father since he would always collect various things for medicinal purposes or just things he would end up using later. She did the same and even when she had a little scrap or cut, she would use a plant or an herb on it to make it heal faster. She learned a lot from him and even though she didn’t spend as much time with him anymore, he was a part of who she was.
She yawned gazing around at the wide area before spotting a unfamiliar stallion in the distance. She would never attack and eat another animal like herself, but he seemed like he was nervous someone would attack him. She slowly made her way over with her tail wagging back and forth behind her knowing she was probably going to freak him out a little bit by her appearance. Everyone seemed to think she was some monster that would attack without any kind of rational thought. She wasn’t like that unless provoked otherwise.
“Nothing is going to harm you around here. Not many travel to these parts and if they seem me, they tend to avoid it.” She said softly even though her appearance was rather rugged and intimidating. “Are you lost or are you traveling?” She asked with her fangs peeking out at the sides of her muzzle. Her sister had it easy where she didn’t have big fangs and could easily hide them from the world. She on the other hand always had them out and it was a test to see who would be afraid of her.

The unusual sound of peculiar footsteps had the knightly stallion calmly lifting his head to gaze upon whoever was approaching him. Emerald eyes came to rest upon a pale mare with features unlike any he had seen before, but this had not been the first time he had encountered something so extraordinary. She appeared to be quite aware of her image as she approached him, moving with respectful caution and exhibiting mannerisms he assumed to be friendly. His head dipped in acknowledgement but he remained vigilant, the cynicism he had not completely outgrown questioning her alignment. His ears swiveled fully in her direction as she began to speak and his head came up as he made eye contact before addressing her with the utmost cordiality. “I appreciate yer soothin’ words, though I regret ta say that at present my mind remains ill at ease due ta tha aftermath o’ the Kalona wars.” Her gentleness was not lost on him and it was returned in kind with a warm smile. There was a reserve about her as though she were waiting for him to turn tail and run, a sensation he had felt before upon becoming acquainted with two of his grandchildren.
Releasing a relaxed breath that caused the metal plates covering his chest to grind and scrape he adopted a more congenial air, shaking his head gently as her question took form. “Ah, no. Not lost lass, simply patrollin’ fer any with nefarious intentions.” Her fangs caught his attention right as she unveiled them, but he was more concerned that she may believe him to suspect her of ill will above all else. “And you?” He enquired with a nearly apologetic tone. “Are ya out deterrin’ such creatures as well?” He added, making reference to her earlier comment about others generally avoiding her.
XxXPandamoniumXxX Sorry this response is kind of 'blah' Panda. Cal's muse was being somewhat stubborn haha.

The stallion was a little odd speech wise, but there wasn’t anything else that seemed terrible about him. She got that feeling from him that he was a kind gentle soul or something of the sort so she let her defenses down a little bit. “Kalona wars?” She didn’t even know there had been one going on nor did she really care about it. She would never be involved in the affairs of kalona especially if the conflict was within their own ranks. “I didn’t even think there was something like that going on.” She simply told him flicking her tail behind herself as he cautiously watched the stallion. He could easily do her harm and she was making sure his kindness was something that he wasn’t using against her. Trusting others wasn’t exactly her strong suit and even the nicest Soquili could have evil intentions or at least that was her thought process.
“No. I’m simply traveling or better yet exploring.” She told the stallion not giving him too much to go on. She didn’t like anyone knowing what she was up to. She preferred to be secretive and keep others in the dark as much as she possibly could. “So other then looking for problems…are you doing anything else exciting?” She asked him in a slightly irritated voice before wandering away from him slowly. She didn’t even know what she was doing anymore. She wanted to travel some more, but she was also a little tired of constantly moving at the moment. Though the alternative of being around him was not that pleasing for her either. It was definitely on her ‘do not want’ list. She eyed the tree above her and hopped up onto one of the branches looking around at the land around them before hearing something moving in the bushes making her narrow her eyes. She flattened her ears against her head and eyed down at the stallion.
“Something is approaching.” She was trying to keep as quiet as she possibly could. When the sound picked up some more, she leaped down in front of the stallion digging her claws into the ground. Running was never an option with her, when the bush moved she growled before seeing a small raccoon wiggle on out causing her to huff. “Can never be too sure anymore..” She said to the stallion as she sat down keeping her eyes on the bush as if something else was going to come out.
