The night was young still, and Captain Buddingtonite knew that he was breaking his 'curfew' by being out so late, and most importantly, on his own. He hadn't quite intended to be patrolling the streets of Destiny City alone and truthfully it wasn't even his fault that he was alone in the first place. It was more or less a matter that his partner was running late, and unlike Serpentine, where he could call and play the game of twenty questions to see what he was running late, the partner he had scheduled tonight was the type he didn't want to anger.

The most he could figure for General Mica's tardiness was either she was busy taking care of a pesky senshi or knight that made the mistake of crossing her path, or lady times. If it was the latter, then perhaps conducting his patrols solo would have been the best course of action, and if Serpentine gave him trouble, he'll yell 'Shark Week' and give him a chance to figure out the riddle on his own. Buddingtonite loved men and women equally, but even a hound dog like him knew better than to pressure or question a lady whenever they were running late.

Which left him without a partner, which left him vulnerable, and that was a state that Buddingtonite was determined never to be. So, he wandered a little bits away from the designated meeting spot and made his way around the block, taking in the twinkling Christmas lights that decorated the city and admiring their beauty in rare solitude. The business district always looked the best during the holidays, with snow covering the pavement and decorations having from the parapets and windows… there were still a few civilians in the streets at this hour, but few thought ill of a man in an oversized coat, even if his cap was more militaristic than the usual attire. And if anyone mocked him for his attire? Well, he knew exactly what to do with such a fodder.

He passed by one of the many arcades stationed throughout the city, glancing inside but not really taking in the surroundings, as he whistled one of his favorite holiday tunes, loudly and maybe a little off key. Then, if that wasn't enough, he sang a little too, letting is voice carry but not TOO much. "O come, all ye faithful… joyful and triumphant…"

I'll have Mica show up a little later, if that's alright?

She'd been thinking a lot since that night. She'd been paying attention to the news more, and avoiding traveling too much by herself. But she'd finally come to a decision. If she didn't stand, who was to say someone older would? Grown-ups were kind of notorious for being lazy and happy with the norm. She liked some grown-ups, mind! Like her parents and her grandfather and some of her teachers! But...

Really, after their 20s, people seemed to kind of...settle. And while that wasn't bad all the time, sometimes, it was really bad. Like when you wouldn't fight for yourself. To keep people safe, instead of dragged into something horrible. To choose your fate, instead of letting someone else choose it for you. So, one Chiku Ajali had started hanging around by herself a little more (not without protection, of course; it wasn't hard to convince her father to get her pepper spray), headphones on low enough that she could pay attention to the city around her. She kept an eye out for Buddingtonite, or people who looked like him. Well...whose clothes looked like his.

If she had a chance of being dragged into this war...she was going to walk into it willingly, of her own accord, knowing what she was doing. No one was going to force her. Period. Her parents had always taught her to make her own way in life, and to not let others dictate it.

No way was she going to let a bunch of magical terrorists pull her in on their side.

So out and about she was once more, her winter coat pulled tight around her small frame and her bright green eyes far more observant than the average teenager with headphones on. And if her parents messaged her, she'd reassure them that she'd be home soon! Maybe sooner than she thought, as she caught sight of a half-familiar face, one she wouldn't forget. Talk about luck! She practically bounced over to him, pulling her headphones down as she moved.

"I've been looking for you!"

Crimson red eyes flashed over a familiar form, and the deep smile he wore was sincere, when he looked to the one that had called out. He wasn't sure exactly why he knew that the words were for him- narcissistic of him, perhaps, vain even, but he wasn't incorrect on his hunch, and it was all too easy to slip into a more comfortable skin when another approached him with such energy. Despite his loose ways, he found a way to remember most of his 'clients', and Chiku would be no exception. "Is that so, Chiku? I'm honored, truly. And relieved to see you are well."

With a name like Chiku, it was hard to forget. Such energy and vibrancy, however, made it impossible to forget her, and the desire to sing was long since gone, as well as the thought of what could have possibly been keeping Mica. For all he knew, or cared, she could have made her way to their rendesvous spot, but she could wait. It would be so rude to think of another person with such a presence before him, wouldn't it? If Mica cared where he was, she'd call, simple as that, but the crystal was silent, leaving the captain to his own devices.

"You'll be happy to know that I am making a full recovery, as you can very well see," Buddingtonite said, pulling his hat off of his head and tucking it under his arm as he addressed her, like a gentleman should. It was a bit nippy and his ears would suffer for it, but at least his beard kept his face warm. Perhaps once the weather warmed a little he'd shave the unsightly thing off, but for now, he pretended it wasn't there. He pretended that it hadn't been awhile since he last saw this young girl, pretending as though they had just met. Keeping track of the months gone by was too troublesome for him, especially when he knew what kind of decision the young teen was harping on. "You look well. Staying out of mischief, I hope?"

Not too far away was General Mica, and to be honest, she wasn't surprised that her former roommate/landlord wasn't where he said he'd be. Like Buddingtonite, her attire wasn't inconspicuous and the spear she held, while easily concealable with a simple command, would be hard to hide if one refused to send it away. So Mica had to rely on the shadows to move, or perhaps the rooftops where so few dared look up. It had taken a single leap to make her way up, and she began her search for Buddingtonite, wondering just how soothing his pathetic mewls of mercy would sound when she got her hands on him.

"He better have a good excuse this time."

Oh good! He recognized her! She gave him a wide smile, nodding. "I see! That's really good!" She had been worried about that...but it seemed he'd managed to avoid getting hurt like that again! And it boded well, really. It meant that he hadn't been overwhelmed again, which meant...the Negaverse was getting better at what they were doing, right?

"I've been okay. Been making sure I avoid running into senshi. And...I've been thinking. And observing." Her smile faded into a more serious look, something that seemed rather out of place on a face as open as hers. "I'm not going to sit on the sidelines. I can't. And if there's a chance I could be caught off guard and dragged into this anyways? Well...I'm going to take a stand now, while I have a choice."

She had made her choice, and she was going to stick to it. Besides...she wasn't alone in it, she was sure of it. If she could make this kind of choice, surely others, both her age and a bit older, had made it. Maybe even some of the adults who would stand for themselves had made it! Optimism, she had it.

Buddingtonite gave the young teen his full attention, even when he could feel the p***k of a potent Chaos aura approaching him. He gave it little mind- it felt like a general, and more likely than not, it was Mica looking for him. It'd mean having to deal with her surly attitude later, but one couldn't tell by simply looking at him that such fears were present within his mind. In fact, Chiku's presence and the resolve she held was contagious, and her words only caused Buddingtonite's smile to deepen. What an interesting turn of events!

And yet, as beneficial to him as her decision was and the remarkable resolve she expressed before him, he felt it necessary to test that, as well as give her an idea of what was to come. His smile never faded, even when his voice dropped in volume and in mirth. "It is so good to see one such as yourself having the strength and wisdom to make such a decision. Most adults I know would falter at such a dilemma, but you? You seem to have it all figured out, and I find that admirable. But..."

He drew closer to her, both so that she could hear him as he whispered, as well as preparing to reach for her should she try to walk away. Then there was the matter of her safety, should a senshi or knight, or even a civilian, have spotted him and thought him to do something sinister, then he could pull her away to safety. "I feel as though I must warn you that this isn't a decision that can be made so lightly. You've had time to think on it, time I'm more than willing to offer you again should you ask. But I simply want to make sure you are ready for this. I feel you are, if you are aware that they would not give you the choice. Are you sure? There can be no doubt."

It hadn't taken long to find Buddingtonite, and it hardly surprised Mica to see him engaged with another person. What DID surprise him, however, was the age of the one he was whispering too, and from where the general perched on top of the building above them, she could only wonder what his intentions for the young lady could possibly be. Was he trying to drain her? Would he dare go for her starseed in such an open spot, or perhaps...

"Hm, this should be interesting to see him doing his job, for once." Mica said to herself, knowing that she could easily call down to him if she desired his attention but waiting patiently. At this point, he had to notice her, but how would he act? And would he introduce the young lady to her? Only time could tell, but until then, Mica watched.

Das Tor
You are totally welcomed to spot Mica on the rooftop. It's only about 3 stories tall.

Chiku nodded, unaware of the presence watching them. She'd thought long and hard. And once her mind was made up on something serious? She wasn't going to change it. "I am sure of it. No doubts at all. I want my home to be safe, for those who can't stand. Or who aren't really aware because they're just trying to get by." Maybe she was thinking a bit like one of her RPG characters...but courage and the strength to stand for what was right were admired traits in a person anyways, right? Something that was encouraged?

"So I want to join and help. In any ways I can." Make her home a safe place for everyone. Keep Destiny City from becoming a real war zone. War...

She'd seen news reports about war before. Historical articles. Had it described to her in books and roleplays. War was a horrible thing. And if she could help keep it from even one more person? Than all the better for the world, for her home.

For all of his humor and wit, for all of his sleazy, horn-dog perverted ways, there were times that Buddingtonite could buckle down and take the situation seriously, and now was definitely one of those moments. Though admittedly, he himself was a little drunk when he made his decision to approach a General-King and enlist himself into the Negaverse, but there was still resolve in his notion, and he could hear that same resolve in Chiku's voice. He could see it in her eyes, see it in her entire form.

And that's all the captain needed to hear. Now, his smile faded slightly, but only in mirth, and it became something a little more serious. There was relief in his crimson eyes, as if she had lifted a great burden from his shoulders, and while he would not go into detail about why he expressed such relief, he was quick to try and reassure her of her decision. "Brave words, and wise ones, too. You've made a difficult decision this day, my dear, one that most of us would never have dreamed of making in our time. One that, arguably, people feel you shouldn't have to make, but that's what makes you all the stronger, Chiku. That's what makes you worthy of joining the Negaverse and defending our home... and I am glad to hear it. So very glad to hear it."

He had reached for his crystal, but there was no point. He felt the presence the moment she came into range, and the Negaverse Captain looked up at the hooded figure that loomed above them from atop the building. If it wasn't the turquoise eyes that gave away her identity, it was the spear she rested over her shoulders, and he muttered her name as she made her descent. "And just on time... General Mica, will you be the one to do the honors for us?"

General Mica was patient, listening from where she was perched and not once growing annoyed or anxious at what she was witnessing. As suspected, her colleague was more interested in strengthening the Negaverse in a different manner, and for once, she felt something swelling within her chest, a feeling that she normally did not associate with the sleazy snake charmer she had once roomed with. Pride.

She made her descent, returning her spear back into the dark realm it would rest in when not cradled in her hands, as she did not wish to alarm the potential new recruit. She wasted no time in replying to Buddingtonite's request, her tone not quite sweet or joyous, though there was a hint of warmth in it as she addressed both of them. "I'm no General-Queen, but it's well within my capability to do so."

She would not tell Buddingtonite, nor Chiku, that this was her first awakening, but after going through her own and two promotions, she was certain that it wasn't beyond her grasp. She could have easily done it right now, in the middle of the streets for all to see, should there have been another soul on the streets this evening. Be as it may, it was only Buddingtonite, Chiku, and herself... and there was nothing to stop the general from pressing her hand against her chest and plunging it in, grabbing a hold of her starseed and for once, not seeking to pluck it out, but push Chaos into it.

It would hurt. Chiku would likely scream. But she would be all the stronger for it... assuming she survived..

"I just hope I can help." That's all she wanted to do...was to help. She was surprised by the newcomer, blinking with large eyes before opening her mouth to say hello. Buddingtonite knew her, after all, so she had to be nice! But the words were stopped short by the woman's hand plunging into her chest and an overwhelming feeling of cold and pain, sensations that washed over her and called back to a very, very old fear rooted in human nature and nightmares she'd long forgotten.

She screamed, unable to really do anything else, unable to feel anything but the cold and pain until it finally seemed to let go, little by little, leaving another feeling in its wake. A feeling Chiku wasn't familiar with, but that wasn't...unwelcome. It was certainly more welcome than the pain. And she was dressed quite a bit differently. The girl looked herself over, confused and wondering if the pain had been real.

"Uhm...was this supposed to happen?" Something told her that yes, it was, but she was a curious sort.

And it was kind of cold with the change in clothing.

Mica would tell no one just how surprised she was that the whole thing went off without a hitch. Her years on the streets, either in uniform or out, had hardened her to the sounds of another's anguish, so she hardly flinched when Chiku screamed. What did cause her to flinch was the amount of effort she had to put into the act, and it was only after the transformation was complete that she realized just how easily the starseed could have snapped in her hand. Had she put too much, had she not had such a tight control... and it could have ended horribly.

Yet, Chiku was no longer standing in front of her, but a new lieutenant, and though Mica felt considerably drained from the experience, she held herself tall and strong, not wanting either the newest member of the Negaverse or Buddingtonite to think for a moment that there was any weakness or doubt in the general, even if it was brief. What could have been meant nothing, only what was. And it was a success.

"Welcome to the Negaverse, Lieutenant Sphalerite."

Buddingtonite wasn't quite expecting Mica to jump onto the task right at that given moment, so he was taken by surprise in the manner of just how quick the procedure went for Chiku. What he was expecting was for Mica to run her through the same song and dance he had done with her, to make sure that she was prepared for such an endeavor, and yet, leave it to Mica to do something completely unexpected. Perhaps she had little time to devote to such procedures, or perhaps she surprisingly had faith in either his prep work, or Chiku's judgement? It was a mystery, and probably forever remain a mystery because so long as it was favorable for them, Buddingtonite would not dare question the general with the heavy spear.

Once the deed was done and the nod was given by Mica, it was then Buddingtonite's turn to take charge of the situation. This was what he considered to be the orientation phase, now that their newest lieutenant was hired, so to speak. Leave the talking to the captain, and he wouldn't have liked it any other way.

"Consider it a uniform change, my dear..." Buddingtonite said, approaching her and taking off his hat to give her an old fashion bow of his head. His smile was wide but kind as he addressed her, unable to hide just how excited he was that he had helped, in some manner, to bring a recruit into the Negaverse, and that she made it out in one piece. "Though it seems like our tailor might not have taken the changing seasons into consideration for you, so perhaps we should move this into a warmer environment? If you'd like, I can take you to my home and we can continue our discussion there, if you like, Sphalerite?"

He held out her hand, hoping she'd take it. She looked absolutely frigid in that attire... pleasing to the eye for him, but it couldn't have been good on her to be standing in the snow with so little on.

Das Tor

The new Lieutenant's attention was caught quickly when her name was spoken. "Sphalerite..." It was so far from the name she had as just a normal human but...it resonated with her and just fit. It was hers. "Thank you, ma'am. Glad to be aboard!" She could put the pain she'd felt behind her. That was just a bad dream, a bump on the road of helping protect others. Heck, maybe she'd even just imagined it. For now, though...yup.

It really was kind of cold. A lot. Who had come up with her outfit?! Her attention went from Mica and the fact her new uniform was cold to Buddingtonite and his outstretched hand. "That sounds like a really, really good idea. Can't really be much help if I get frostbite." She took his hand, resolving to text her parents that she'd be home after an errand. She didn't want to worry them, but this was important. She needed to learn what to do now!

And maybe figure out how to get her warm clothes back. Her parents would not be amused if she came home and some of her winter clothes were 'missing'.

The general returned the smile, though it was strictly professional and held little mirth to it. Maybe some pride, but it held little weight and it did not last very long, even as Sphalerite saluted her. It was nice to see that her personality hadn't changed too much from the conversion, so any thought of her messing up was completely eliminated from her mind. She returned the salute, as she addressed them both. "You'll grow used to the uniform in time and I'm certain you'll excel in the summer months. Until then, I suggest you work with another with a thicker coat, or perhaps carry a coat of your own. Just be sure to take it off before you transform, otherwise it'll disappear. Buddingtonite, she is now your full responsibility. I don't want to see a single scratch or bruise on her, understand?."

She flashed her former roommate a smile, before dropping her salute and turning away to leave. She knew that she should have stuck around and kept an eye on the two of them- after all, she was the one that awakened the new lieutenant, but it was Buddingtonite that had found her. He was the one that recruited her, even if it was she that committed the act. So she was willing to split the credit here, though she'd never let him know. For now, she trusted him enough to handle the rest of the affair, and within seconds, she was gone, jumping back onto the building's rooftop and disappearing from sight. She had paperwork to file...

Buddingtonite wasn't sure why Mica had felt the need to threaten him, but he knew better than to get defensive over the matter. Was she implying that she wanted him to take the newest recruit to the streets and get her started in combat? How little Mica knew of Buddingtonite! Or perhaps she was warning him to go gentle on her, should things at his apartment get heated? He scoffed at the idea- she was far too young and he was certain that his bed wouldn't survive the ordeal, though now he was curious what would happen to his furniture when two powered beings played around on it.

It was an idea that he'd simply have to test out later, sadly, and the minute Mica was gone, he gave Sphalerite a confident smirk, giving her hand a small squeeze before teleporting the two of them to his condo. There was no fear of startling Baldwin tonight as he was left at the vet overnight, so when the two of them arrived in his over the top bachelor pad, there were no chorus of frightened barks or growls. Buddingtonite, though winded from the ordeal, spread out his arms and motioned to the room around him, before saying, "Mi casa es su casa, or whatever the phrase is. Please, make yourself comfortable... new recruit orientation will commence shortly, if you're still interested."

Das Tor
And thus Mica will make her departure. Going to go eat a poptart to get her strength back!
PostPosted: Sun Jun 01, 2014 4:57 am

Sphalerite (thinking of herself like that was almost natural, and it made her a bit giddy) nodded at the advice regarding a coat, making a mental note to dig out one of her darker ones. She liked her bright colors and pastels, but darker colors fit her uniform better. The squeeze from Buddingtonite had her giving him a smile, and then they were elsewhere and not outside anymore. She squeaked in surprise, looking around before he spoke up again.

"Oh. This is...okay. I think you got the phrase right, and how did you do that?! And yeah, definitely still interested. Otherwise I'll probably do something stupid in front of the first other ally I meet." If she noticed she was rambling a bit, she certainly didn't show any sign of it.

Because despite her confidence in her choice, she'd suddenly gotten teleported (IT WAS LIKE A SCI-FI THING OR SOMETHING OUT OF D&D) to an unfamiliar place. Though it was comforting knowing it was Buddingtonite's. That made it a little less freaky. Just a little. Yeah, she wasn't sure what percentage of freaky it was, and how much awesome was thrown in. There was definitely both, but the ratio was uncertain.

It never ceased to amaze Buddingtonite in how easy it was to impress someone with that little trick, and he did his best not to let her see even the slightest hint of distress he might have had. After all, teleporting himself was a tasking enough chore, but teleporting himself and another? Yes, it was almost enough to make the back of his neck a little moist from sweat, but with the way he presented himself, one would have never have guessed. "A perk to look forward to with your new responsibilities, Sphalerite, once you've reached the captain rank. One of many, all of which I will be enlighten you with in just a moment. But, please, make yourself comfortable!"

If she was rambling, then it hardly bothered Buddingtonite. After all, he himself was a rambler, so he could sympathize with her reaction. He felt she had handled it far better than he did, considering she went into it without any anesthetic or alcohol to numb the pain, and to see her excited about her new occupation and lot in life almost made him feel a little guilty. She was still so young and he dragged her right into this without any thought or concern... to just exactly what kind of hell awaited her down the road if she made the same mistakes as him.

Except she wouldn't. He was determined for it not to end up like that, and that was enough to get him going once more. He moved towards the kitchen, grateful that Baldwin was away for the night as it'd give them time to talk with his newest recruit. "While I'm in the kitchen getting myself a drink, and you, should you so desire, feel free to ask me any questions. I will tell you everything that I know... there will be no secrets in this little orientation. No rocks left unturned, nothing to confuse that pretty little head of yours. By the end of the night, you will know the truth behind this city. You think you're ready for that?"

Das Tor

She'd be able to teleport later as well? Hmm...that, depending on the limitations and such, could be a useful tactical advantage. Even if it was a limited ability, it could provide an edge in a life-or-death situation or put her in place if stealth was needed...If this was a war, she was going to think the 'right' way for it, dammit! She had a family and friends to think about!

She sat herself down on the first nearby seat, legs tucked up to be criss-cross out of habit. "Water's good!" She thought carefully (for her), sorting through which questions held the most precedence. "Whether I'm ready or not isn't an issue. No one is ever truly ready for war, from what I've read and seen in the news and stuff. I am, however, not going to shy away." Well...best to start with the very basics. "Who do I answer to? Who's leading us?" Yup. Best place to start.

He was a little perplexed when she requested water, but he wouldn't question her tastes. He had to remind himself that she was young, likely not legal, and a good, law abiding citizen such as herself wouldn't have allowed herself to be caught dead drinking alcohol, even if offered to her by a senior ranking officer. That simply meant he'd have to break her in a little, but that could come later. Right now, he had a session to go over, and the sooner drinks and such were prepared, the sooner he could get onto that, and recover some of his strength this evening.

He returned to the living room, a glass of water in one hand and an emptied glass settled on top of a bottle of bourbon in the other, and it didn't take him long to set the glasses down and sit across from her in his favorite spot. He began to pour himself some bourbon, resisting the urge to just abandon the glass altogether and just drink straight from the bottle, but he wanted to feed the illusion that he was a strong, controlled gentleman, if only for a little bit. "Smart words, Sphalerite. You're a winner, knew that from the moment we met. You'll be ready soon enough, and I'll be the one to help you get ready, so have no fear. You're in my hands, as well as the rest of the Negaverse. We'll help and protect our own..."

Most, anyway. He'd protect her, if others wouldn't, at least.

"The one you answer to, beyond myself or General Mica, are the fine General-Sovereigns in our order. General-Kings and Queens, fine lot, most of them. However, beyond them, you ultimately serve the Dark Queen herself. Queen Metallia."
