Margerie had always found the hours between night and day to be the most agreeable. The way the inky blackness of the night melted away into a swirling song of blues, pinks, and oranges before turning into plain blue. Blue was a lovely color but it just wasn’t quite as nice to look at on its own. Sunset was just as magical as sunrise but it seemed that the colors came in reverse. Margerie stood at the rocky banks of the river just to the south of her home near the grove of giant oak trees watching the sun begin its decent. Any moment now the sky would be awash with color and she fully intended to enjoy it despite the chill growing in the air.
Tonight’s show would be especially spectacular, of that Margerie was certain. The day had offered up a small snow shower and bits of frosty white still clung to the ground everywhere. Snow reflected everything, even color to some degree if it was a vibrant enough color. Margerie smiled as she settled herself right beside a large stone almost as large as she was that had certainly been washed downstream with some ancient flood. The snow had blown up against it forming a rather large drift. If any color was to be caught it would be seen right here.
Margerie sighed happily and turned to face west. She felt very much at peace. With the onset of winter fewer and fewer people had been turning up to bother her. It was cold alone but the safety it promised was well worth it. No more did she have to risk some vicious customer calling her out on her mystic shenanigans and attacking her. She hadn’t had any customers for well over three weeks. No more did she have to worry about some hungry kalona creeping into her forest looking for food only to find the tiny quilin that was certain to be the perfect size for an early morning meal. They seemed happier to hunt in more populated areas not in the trees where only squirrels and the occasional rabbit were known to dwell. It was true that she lived within spitting distance of a river but so long as she picked the right times, like dawn or dusk, she rarely had to endure the presence of another creature and then there was always Flicker, her little fox friend. He was quite good at keeping an eye out for any dangers passing her way so that she might avoid them. How had she ever lived without that little fox?
Margeries inner monologue was interrupted as she noticed the first traces of a pink hue darting across the sky. Her smile widened and she relaxed her stance ready to watch. Yes, it was ever so peaceful being on her own like this.
