There is a small, but very well lit, shack overlooking a massive hill. Glancing in the windows, every wall is lined with sleds - some circular, some flat with tracks, some fit only one person, others look like you could pack five or six onto them. Other displays held spare tracks, tape, rope, and colorful stickers of all sorts of JOYful designs. Inside of the shack a medium height man with black hair and skin is sat on a bench, sanding down a wooden sled diligently. However, just peering in the window seems to attract his attention as he looks up suddenly.
Then he grins.
Still holding onto his sled-in-progress, the man makes his way to the door and swings it open so violently you are almost certain that he’ll have to put the door back on. Lo and behold, the door actually does go flying off into his little shop and with a dramatic sigh he goes about putting it back on, enthusiasm still brimming by the time he’s done.
“Sorry about that! Are you here to help with the Sleds?” he asks.

Sitting back down at his work bench, Deckle props up the body of the sled he was just working on. “Welcome to Penguin Sledding - My name is Deckle and I’m the shop owner.” he explains, still grinning, “Used to be my dad’s place but he had to retire after an accident involving his sled and one of the deer sleighs and there was a lot of trampling so he spends his time fishing now - which reminds me the other day-” Deckle starts to go off on an enormous tangent about a fishing trip with his father and a narwhal or a swordfish, “I’m not sure which one it was because it wasn’t very close,” and something about a snowball fight under water and, “You’d be surprised how fast you can actually toss ice under water, though,” and he ends up going on about it for about ten minutes before he suddenly remembers why the students are there.
He thumps the boy of the snowboard once - loudly - to wake up anybody who wasn’t exactly enthralled with his story as he told it. “Penguin Sledding.” he reminded himself, “We’re going to be constructing some basic sleds and then go test them.” With a jerk of one thumb, he motions to the enormous hill that is impossible to miss out back. “On that hill back there - I learned sledding on that hill you know, but they had to close it down for a few years because we got a bad case of the Yetis and they kept eating people. I hear they just go after skiiers now-” he goes into another long tangent and it’s rather possible he’s talking about a computer game from the 90s based on trees and snowballs and ‘they come out of freakin’ nowhere!’
But he quickly gets himself back on topic soon enough.
“Okay! What I’m going to need you guys to do is first - pick a base for your sled. Plastic is the easiest to work with, Wood is much more presentable but it requires a little extra TLC like paint and metal fixings,” he picks up one of the sled-blades from his parts counter in example. “Once you have a base assembled, use some rope to give yourself something to hold onto - handles or reigns or whatever makes you happy, and then decorate! If you use a wood base use paints, if you use a plastic one...” he motions to his sticker display, “Use stickers! Naturally you can mix and match a bit, I just find that if I do one or the other, it is much more presentable, but these will be yours so do whatever makes you happy.”
He rubs his hands together excitedly. “Let me give you a quick demo for what you’ll be doing and then you can get started.” Deckle then sits down with his wooden body to get started.
MAKING A SLED
To make a sled, you first need to pick what body type you want. Wood
A Wooden Sled will require a little bit more rolling, but on the test run will get a few extra perks for sturdiness!
Assembling your Wooden Sled Sand That Sucker
Roll 1d12. Even means it’s nice and smooth, Odd - roll again
Put the Blades on!
Roll 8d4 - Make a note of the odd-to-even ratio Put a Handle on It
Use a length of rope around the front of your sled so you can hold on tight! Roll 1d4 - Make a note if it is odd or not Paint that Sucker!
No dice mechanics here! Your student can use any colors they want!
Plastic
A Plastic Sled really is a matter of putting some handles on it and decorating. They’re really not that high maintenance but they really can go fast in the snow!
Assembling your Plastic Sled Pick a base. They come in:
Red Green Blue Purple Eye Searing Pink Orange
Put some Handles on It
Roll 1d4 - Make a note if it is odd or even
Decorate that Sucker!
No dice mechanics! Just RP your student slapping stickers and paint on that little plastic sled of theirs!
If more than one person will be on the sled, split up the dice rolls accordingly - I leave how up to you. Max 3 on a Wooden Sled, Max 4 on a Plastic Sled.
WHEN YOU ARE DONE:
Post the form for your sled type:

[THIS CLASS IS OPEN AND YOU CAN JUMP IN AT ANY TIME YOU WISH <3 ]
Deckle's story had of course him sleeping on San's arm but the loud thump done well in waking him up. Startled he clung onto his friend and glared. That was a little uncalled for wasn't it? Sighing he sleepily rubbed at his eyes and soon enough was back to his normally bright beaming self. Tugging on San's arm he pulled the bigger boil over to the supplies and did a little dance.
Assembling sleds was going to be a blast, he just knew it and what better than getting to do so with San? San was strong and big so he could do all the leg work, right? "Wooden or plastic..." Not really giving the other boil a chance to help decide Tavi plucked up the parts for a wooden sled and handed them to him to hold. After all their pieces were acquired he trotted to some empty working space and nodded to himself.
The first task ended up being sanding and since he figured that San might snap the sled in half with his strength Tavi volunteered to take this one. "Hnn, let me doooo t h i s part ok! I can ! " Bouncing on the balls of his feet he rolled up the sleeves of his hoodie and stuck his tongue out of the side of his mouth before setting to work. Sanding was hard work and after a few minutes of it Tavi was nearly panting. Having to pause he leaned up and pulled his hoody off, much to warm for it at the moment. Looking over his handy work he gave a little dance and peered up to San, "Loooook loook! I did it! Now its your turn, leeets seee.." Puckering his lips he looked back to the demonstration and nodded, "we need blades!"

I have a PLASTIC SLED I rolled (odd) on the rope handle! I have (2) people riding! (Amarus and Violetta)
This was going to be interesting. Despite her dislike of snow and ice Violetta really needed the class credits and so she had agreed to attend this godforsaken class. Amarus, one of the only bearable ghouls she had come to meet - was meant to be meeting her here any minuet now. Whilst she waited for the other ghost, the mirror spirit had started the construction of their... contraption, for a better word.
She had chosen a pink one... because.... Mar liked pink. Right?
She had already attached the rope and had found herself a comfy little spot just every so slightly out of the way of the other students. Now all she needed to do was decorate it and give it a fitting title... She had stickers, but no real creative ability. She pouted slightly and then decided she had done enough work. It was up to Mar to finish the job!
She gave the rope a good tug. Once satisfied it was not going to fly off at a most unfortunate time she crossed her legs and sat back, awaiting her companion.
Alice had walked through the white fluff for so long,Moshe could feel anything. Well, in actuality, she probably couldn't tell either way, being the type of ghoul that she was.
And along came a shack, and then a man, to whom she thought was going to slam the door straight into her face. She flinched, but drew back her arms as she saw that she hadn't been hit. Yet.
She listened through his stories, for some reason had been able to remember it, and understood his instruction. To make a sleigh, or sled.
She grabbed a wooden one, being somehow, as mentioned, a bit stronger than the plastic. She sanded it until she thought it was perfect.

Time for blades I presume, right? she thought as she began to think of how to do it.
.... Maybe she might need a teacher for this one.

A rope. That shouldn't be difficult to do. Putting a handle on the sleigh, not too difficult. Hopefully not.

Sled building . . . San is having a bad feeling how that might turn out to be. He is a 6'10" demon and he feels that even the sturdiest of their materials is going to break under his weight, but Tavi wanted to make a sled with him and he can't say no to him; never. Sadly, San was the only one paying attention to the story while he felt the petite kitsune sleeping away on his arm. However, seeing him waking up from the loud thump was highly humorous to him as the serious demon cracked a small smile.
Now it was time to assemble the sled and he was dragged up his chair over to the parts. ". . ." Of course there was no point in answering too for Tavi will pick which sled part for them as he picked the wooden one. He was moving in to start with the sanding, but his fiery eyes widen when he saw that the kitsune is willing to go in and do the sanding down himself. "All right . . ." That's all he said as he watched him at his work, and he was highly surprised at how well he did. "You did a great job Tavi." He chuckled at his little dance of victory for doing such a good job. And now it's for the blades as he went off to find them and to put them up on their sled.
San brought the blades over and some tools too to add the blades on the sled. His fingers were feeling stiff from the cold weather as he tries to screw on the blades right. He got some of them on right, but maybe the last one seemed to be a little off. "Okay . . . we need rope now . . ." He said up to Tavi so he can go and get it for them.

Put the Blades on! Roll 8d4 - Make a note of the odd-to-even ratio
There was something to be said about sled building. Ruth just wouldn't be the person to say it. She would, however, be the reaper to join in the class and try her hand at creating her own method of transportation. It sounded very practical, should she ever be in any location that would allow such a ride to be of any use. Although she didn't know how much use it would be while she was still in Amityville Academy.
Maybe whenever she took her holiday break and went back home to see her family, she could bring it along and they could all use it for something else. Maybe kindling, if it was a terrible, awful result. Undeterred by the very likely possibility of failure, Ruth set to work sanding the wood until it was smooth and splinter-free. Or at least enough in the professor's opinion.
The blades were going to be tricky, as far as Ruth was concerned. Part of her wanted to ask if she could sharpen them all before she tried to attach them, but instead she tried to make do on her own. Of course having no knowledge in sharpening blades, it might explain why some were a bit duller than the others and had no distinct sense of consistency.
Ah well, it isn't as if she was going to be the unlucky sap to ride this thing when it was all said and done, right?
Ithi was wearing only two layers of clothes this time, because she knew she was going to be working with wood and tools, she didn't want to chance getting caught or hurt because she was wearing too much but man was it cold! She listened rather intently as she could to his stories, but the longer he rambled on the more she shivered. People lived like this?! For once she was jealous of Gabby's ability to shrug off pesky things like cold weather and breathing. At long last the teacher finished his speech and they were free to start working. Ithi chose a wooden sled body and sat down to start sanding it, her tongue pinched between her teeth as she worked. It went surprisingly well to start and the sled was soon sanded as even as she could possibly get it.

Watching the other students attempt to put their handle, Ruth wondered whether as a Halloweener, she should be using some snake-like minipet as a cord substitute. Yes, yes, it was a JOY class but that didn't mean it couldn't be more Halloween-like since they were in Halloween. Unfortunately, that would entail having to track down a snake minipet, wrangling it, wrestling it into submission, or beaning it outright with her steel pipe.
Altogether it would take too long and the class would probably be finished by the time she even got back. And that would suggest she'd wasted a whole day for something she wasn't sure she was going to even use in the future.
As she pondered and debated, her body moved on autopilot and before she realized it, she'd gotten the cord and attached it to the sled. Oh. Huh. Maybe next time, then?
"Yeah!?" Tavi brightened when San praised him, clearly loving the attention from his friend. Grinning he folded his arms over his chest and watched as it was San's turn to work. After a moment or two of watching he got a little bored and started to stare at the others in the area, mentally comparing the other sleds to theirs. Which was so much better of course.
Twiching his ears he turned back to San in time to notice the other finishing up his job. "Good work!" Cheering loudly he gave San a pat to the torso teasingly before turning the sled over to admire their handy work. "We make a good team," he giggled then began to secure the rope for the sled into its place. After placing the rope around the front of the sled he leaned back and gave a tilt of head before asking, "looks right to you?"
