The UGMF wants you!
Are you looking for a mature, literate roleplay guild involving modern military tactics and technology? Do you want to join an RP with as many as 20+ active players at any given time? We are currently looking for new recruits to join us in our Arny, Navy, Marines and Air Force.
What is the UGMF?
The UGMF is a long-standing foundation of Gaia, having been around since 2005, it's roots preceding that. The UGMF is made up of four branches (similar to most modern militaries) of an Army, Navy, Marine Corp and Air Force. To ease cohesion of command, we've rolled our Infantry together and our Naval/Air assets together until we have the manpower to reopen and reassess the situation.
Why the UGMF?
Well, firstly because it's fun. If you're wanting to learn about how to use a LMG to lay down correct and suppressive fire, rotating barrels and how to move with a squad just like they do in real life, you may want to poke around here.
We have full infantry fireteams, moving and communicating to our objectives in our RPs (we call them Operations, or Ops for short) We sometimes like to run non-cannon missions (A steampunk one is in the works.) Have fun and learn from actual former soldiers on how to RP military units. Great for those with an interest in the military and how it actually works.

Without a doubt, the UGMF has been the best thing I've done on Gaia. It keeps drawing me back in, and often is the only reason I log on. It's addictive, to a point, but considering it's always a learning environment, an environment to have fun, and socialize, it's not an addiction I'm ready to kick.
The best thing I've ever seen about my years of the UGMF is that it's always trying to improve. For better or worse, everyone wants to to have a great time, and provide that for everyone else. People you meet here go beyond just being people you roleplay with, many of them become lasting friends, even outside of Gaia. I've met some really good friends here, some I've even had the good fortune to meet in person when our paths cross.
We've got a few active duty military or veterans ourselves, who are always willing to provide input to make it as realistic as possible, with best efforts towards making taking away that fun. Those of us with real life experience are always willing to coach along others - and many of us have much to learn about each other's jobs as well, and so despite our experience, some of us are still pretty fresh in some regards. This is a learning environment - asking questions is expected, and answers are happily given - no roleplay experience is required. We help anyone willing get up to speed.
With patience, anyone can rise high. It takes some time, but as long as you put effort into it you can get pretty far. You don't have to have served in the military, you just have to do your part. Many promotions will be sudden - as many of us are military, sometimes we'll disappear off the face of the planet for a while, and someone needs to take our place, at least temporarily. During those times, even if you don't get to keep the spot, you get a good chance to get a feel for how things roll in that position.

The UGMF is an amazing guild. It was the first one I had joined and has been the one that I keep coming back to. The stories within the roleplays are intricate and well told. Every battle is interwoven with each other in a continuous story. The characters you create become a part of the UGMF history: unique, yet part of something bigger.
The best aspect about the UGMF for me would be the friends you make in the guild. We are like an extended family. Most of my friends on Gaia have been made through the UGMF. These are the friends I know I can joke around with, yet will take things seriously when I need them to. I have always strived to improve my role playing skills, and these friends and this guild have helped, all the while keeping it fun.

I've been in the UGMF for a while, maybe three or so years. From the moment I applied to their New Entry program, I knew that this place was filled with people who had real experience in the military, and would be willing to share their knowledge and experience through Roleplay. I'm actually surprised and grateful that those veterans we have spend time out of their day to post in our Operations. Around my time of entry to the guild, I saw many operations and a whole history to the guild through operations and even a World War. Being a military fan and history addict back then, I was completely engrossed, and I wanted to join. My writing skills were inferior back then, and through patience with a drill instructor in the guild, I gained a scrap of knowledge how the military works on top of improving my writing.
I first saw this guild as full of people who will snap at you if you do something wrong. It was, for the most part, true. Because it requires something really wrong for anyone to snap at you in this guild. Everyone was a superior, everyone pretty much had your life in their hands whether you like it or not. Sticking around with patience and intimidation, I worked towards fitting in, instead of quitting and taking the easy way. Sooner than I knew it, I myself, was leading other RPers into this realm I've come to enjoy. We're not pushing you to have intentions of joining the military when you join the UGMF, we just want you to have the willingness to learn our differences and transform it into similarities, and the patience to do so.
Join the UGMF! It was perhaps, the best choice I've done on Gaia.

Hello to all those curious gents and ladies out there.
When I first joined the UGMF I felt as though it offered a great platform to develop not only my role playing skills, but also my imagination and creativity. The thrill I get from sending my character into a situation that could be considered dangerous is awesome, and perhaps it helps me feel just a little bit cooler and a little more confident.
So if you have ever felt like jumping into a battlefield armed with a rifle, and want to add some military knowledge and perhaps some tactical awareness into the mix, check us out. Now is the time to step forward and do your part to help preserve one of the biggest, and in my opinion, the best military role playing guild around.
