Zippeite was exhausted, but he usually didn't need to go out this often to collect energy and meet quota.

Honestly, he didn't need to be out right now, but he wanted to be, in spite of all logic. He had tests and holiday bullshit coming up he would probably need to be awake for, but after a Thanksgiving holiday in the Bresner household with his father, he definitely didn't want to be home.

He held one of the energy orbs he'd recently extracted, and debating using it on himself, just so he could get a bit of a boost and keep going and not do what he really should, which was power down and get back to real life.

He'd have to eventually, someday, but he was trying to avoid it as much as possible. Patrolling, looking for fights, and gathering energy offered him distraction. And he very desperately needed distraction.

Erythrite much preferred to approach Chaos signatures than Order ones, especially once she felt she'd met her draining-drunk-assholes quota for the evening. So when she sensed a power signature a little above hers, an officer a rank above her, she approached, perhaps walking with a bit more of a sashay than a woman who, in her civilian life, had introduced a serious girlfriend to her parents ought to display.

Ah well, a little flirting in uniform wasn't going to kill her, was it?

She spotted the source of the signature and lit up. Oh, it was a very, very cute Captain - this was going to be a nice evening!

"Well hello there, sir," she said, a little bit of a purr in her voice. "Having a good evening so far?"

Zippeite was so tired he completely missed the blip of a lieutenant's energy signature until she was practically next to him. "Ah! Oh... uh...."

He was alert. Totally. He just needed another energy orb or coffee, that was all. But that didn't mean he wasn't constantly nervous about these extremely minor failings being a mark against his rank.

He cleared his throat and gave a quick sniff as he straightened up his posture in her presence. He caught that purr in her voice, but he had no idea what to make of it. Maybe she was tired too?

"Lieutenant," He addressed, doing his best to sound awake and authoritative and businesslike. "Captain Zippeite," He introduced and rolled his tired shoulders.

"You could say that. Been busy, met quota, just out getting a little extra... how are your numbers tonight?"

Erythrite raised her eyebrows, sauntering a little closer and leaning against him. "Lieutenant Erythrite. I'm surprised they don't call you Captain Cutie." Alright, so she was a little obvious tonight, but he seemed tired and she wasn't going to be subtle when she could be blatant.

"My numbers are pretty good," she said. "Straight men turn into idiots around a pretty face, and it makes them such easy targets." She laughed playfully. "You'll forgive the generalization, but it's true, in my experience." Normally it got her drinks in bars. As Erythrite, it got her a very speedily filled energy quota and happy superiors.

"I-I..." Zippeite stammered and for a brief moment, his attempt at trying to appear authoritative broke a little. Some part of him, in the back of his teenage boy brain familiar with pop culture and general swathes of society, knew she was flirting with him.

It didn't know he knew how to handle it or what to do about it, though. He went to an all boys school and his contact with girls was minimal at best, and it was never in a flirtatious or romantic sense.

"T-thanks?"

He thought he was over stuttering. How embarrassing.

"That's... that's a little..." He wasn't sure how he liked being stereotyped as an idiot if he fell into the category of 'generalized straight man', but it wasn't like he was going to articulate that to her. She was pretty and for all he knew, she was probably right.

She put a finger to his lips in an effort to calm him, trying not to giggle. Oh god, he looked like he was going to combust, how absolutely adorable. "Not you, of course, I'm sure you're perfectly capable of keeping it together." Even if he was putting the lie to her flattery right then.

"Not used to female attention?" She guessed. It was a shame - he looked absolutely gorgeous in uniform, but maybe he was much less so out of it. Ever's bearing had certainly changed when he became Ilmenite; it wasn't hard to think that someone who the universe blessed with a flattering uniform might not know how to flatter out of it. "It's okay, just breathe, sweetheart. I'm not going to eat you, I promise."

Zippeite seemed to freeze when she put a finger to his lips. His lips, without permission. Girls were ******** weird.

Regardless, he wasn't a fan of being touched, mostly because he felt uncomfortable with the level of awkwardness that came with the notion and all of these feelings were multiplied exponentially by the fact the area of contact was his face. It was a pet peeve that persisted even when growing into his large frame made him a bit more physically intimidating and caused it to happen less. So when the physical contact was initiated, it was like she flipped a switch that sent a shock of electricity to his core and froze all of the little nervous microexpressions into one, solid, hard statement.

"I am still your superior officer," He stated as if they both needed assurance of this fact while he grabbed her wrist with a gentle firmness and removed it from his person with decisive action.

It didn't matter that she was probably older and definitely had more experience and social graces. He was at a higher rank, and she would acknowledge that or end up with consequences. Even if her skin was soft and she was very pretty and outside of uniform Zippeite was actually Cas, the virgin Hillworth senior who had never been on a date. In uniform dynamics were different. That's why he spent so much time powered up in the first place.

"How long have you been an officer anyway?"

It was fascinating to see the change in Zippetite as soon as she touched him. Well, at least he wasn't flailing quite as much anymore - so when he pushed her hand away, as soon as he let go, she withdrew and folded her hands together, letting them sit in front of her.

"Sorry, sir," she said, inclining her head. If he was going to pull rank and ask for professionalism, she'd oblige. Casual chats were easier for her, but she could do this too. "It's been a few months, and a very interesting few months at that."

Zippeite's nostrils flared and he let out a small huff. While his intention hadn't been to pull rank in an effort to alienate, it certainly had been to provide some insulation to his discomfort.

He didn't like being touched. It made her objectively in the wrong for being so forward. This solved things.

Well, solved as long as everyone was cool with the super awkward tension.

"Interesting how?" Zippeite remembered his first week as a lieutenant, and the operations that followed. Ops and general activity seemed to have slowed to a halt since then. Tag Swagger's expose had been a nice change to the mundane, but it wasn't anything to do so much as a welcome change in the landscape.

He felt like a wanderer in recent months, and if he was a deeper thinker, might've attributed his recent curiosity about senshi nature to boredom.

Erythrite hated the awkwardness in the air, but then she supposed she had to expect it when she had been so over-forward with a superior officer. Apparently not everyone found attempted fraternization funny. Oops.

"Well, goodness, this whole 'secret war' thing has really been a kick in the pants." Her tone was still light, but the flirtation was completely gone from it. "I've learned things about people close to me I never might otherwise even have expected."

To say the least.

"I am sorry for upsetting you, sir - if there's not anything pressing, I'd like to continue my rounds?" Or possibly just go home to her girlfriend, that sounded like an equally lovely possibility.

Zippeite reacted to the awkward tension with typical teenage boy ‘I don’t care’ attitude forcibly injected into his actions, whether it belonged there or not.

“Carry on,” He said with a wave of his hand and turned on his heel to do the same.
