Trips into Sauti were not unusual for Ruelash. Sometimes, his odd tasks or hunting or whatever he was doing took him into the high, rocky, purple peaks.
Today, he was checking some lazy jerk's traps for him, Direk clopping angrily behind- she liked Sauti even less than Zena, if that could be believed.
Ruelash knew she was unhappy, but so long as that was just because of her delightfully foul temper and not because she was actually suffering, he was fine with the death glare boring into his back. He kind of liked having the company around. She was quiet, not like a whiny earthling. She fit the wild silence- a part of it, not a mere visitor.
He found another trap, taking it's poor, dead, occupant out, securing it to his pack, and resetting it. "Careful..." he said to Direk, not wanting to lose his aldabuck to some a*****e's traps.
He looked up at the rocks, thoughtfully. He could see the telltale droppings and weave of a Sailscale nest. He was hungry, and a sailscale egg would be delicious to cook up over a fire later. The ledge wasn't too hard to climb, especially for someone as hardy as him, and he made it to the nest with little trouble as Direk watched him, wondering what this thorn in her regal side was up to now.
It was a nest, and in it were three nice-sized eggs, their speckled shells shining dully in the hazy light. Ruelash grinned and reached out for one, managing to touch it before a shriek came from above. He looked up to see a shape coming at him, small and speedy. Before he could react, it latched onto his head and started clawing, and he fell back towards the ground. The Sailscale clawed at him until he fought it off with his flailing hands and it retreated to its eggs, glaring down at him. He matched its glare, ire for ire, as Direk daintily snorted her amusement.
"Aww, Shaddup." he muttered, getting back up and continuing along the path. Whatever. He'd find something else.
