A city on the frontlines of the war on the dark pokemon ...it has long sense fallen, and a temporary base has been made on the very borders of the city. This is considered to be mankind's last foothold in this region, and could quite easily be the point where they will literally be pushed off of the area.
It is here that Team Rocket's efforts to save their world can be seen, but considering the level of danger it is rare that anyone but the most harden veterans will venture this far.
Thus, the only safe way to arrive to this place is by air.

The woman would be waiting for his arrival. Her arm crossed as she smiles lightly and would tap one hand against the eye patch on one side of her face. She had been told ahead of time of his ...of their arrival, though the others might have to be picked up by her partner.
She wasn't the type who like to wait for long, and she hated the long wait she had already had. She had been coming to spot every day searching the skies for their arrival, so she was happy to see the basket, but a bit disappointed to see only one.
She wouldn't complain as she wipe a bit of dust from her dress.
By the end of this little outing, she might actually find herself bless. It would mean that she would have less to have to keep alive ...it was hard enough on her own. Though she wouldn't admit it, she was really looking forward to seeing the last part in their trio again ...Professor Barney.
The lucky b*****d had managed somehow to gain the professor position. Something that meant that he would never had to deal with the front lines again ...as she wave the basket down, and waited for the student to get out and introduce himself.
">WEEEEL HOOOOOWDY PAHDNUH!< A young and excited voice would be the first thing the woman would hear as a Riolu leaped over the basket, his tiny tail wagging faster than a flag caught in a gale ">Weel ain't ya'll a fahury lookin thin! N' whah erveryone godda be so gosh dern tall?<" The Fighting-Type remarked as he looked up at the woman; of course from the perspective of a Riolu everything certainly had to look gigantic. ">Hay, hah yah built thad there...<" The Riolu's remaining words would be cut off as a sheathed blade came down on his head, lighting bonking him in to silence. ">HAY! Whah yah gone n' done that?<" The Riolu barked, turning around to find cold crimson gaze upon him. Silence followed suit.
With the Riolu's antics brought to an end, Raven would for once allow himself to bend one knee slightly as he bowed to the woman in front of him, a sign of respect towards one of superior rank. "Raven Illiaster Pheonix of the Strike Team" The boy stated in a calm, clear voice. Frankly the child already liked the look of this woman as compared to his Professor...but looks could be deceiving.
Following his Trainer's lead, the boy's Riolu would remove his hat, placing it over his heart and lowering his head respectfully to the woman ">West ma'm, fasdest paws in.<" Not quite as polite or as articulate as his Trainer's, but it was true to the Pokemon's character.

"Well, it seems maybe the life of a Professor suits him better ...you actually got manners."
The woman would declare with a slight chuckle. THen she would do a sweeping curtsy of her own ....as she smiles at him. Though her outfit had the makings of a dress, it ended in pants ..more so because a dress got in the way of the type of movement that would be required in the field. And there was no advantages they were willing to give away out here, because they were already at enough of a disadvantage .....as her long bluish black coat would touch the ground for a moment before she straighten up.
"The name is Elisa Koukai Rose of the house of the Roses, and current vice captain of the Shadow needle troop. I am their Strike team member, and I was ....a partner of your Professor in term of teammates."
"So, Raven & West, welcome to the front."
She would declare with a smirk as she gives the little Riolu a wink. There was no question that Raven's pokemon could be understood by her, and that also meant that it was very likely that everyone on the frontline would be able to communicate via pokemon as necessary.
The woman would gesture over her shoulder.
"You had a long trip, and you would probably like to freshen up and get a bit to eat. Follow me over to the sleeping den .....it's not as good as what you are used to back home, but it would do in a pinch."
Then she stopped as she made the move to turn as she looks back at him for a moment.
"Hmmm...maybe my statement is wrong ...You said your last name is Phoenix right? Not Forelorn?"
She would cross her arms there as she thought about it for a moment. She would wait for Raven to answer before she said anything further as she just looks at him.
"I assure you my manner's came long before entering the Academy" Raven stated calmly, though it sounded a bit like a wisecrack at the expense of his Professor. ">Manners? Whahs a bahncha houses godda do wih anythin?<" West questioned, tilting his head to the side as he looked at the two humans before him. In the few seconds which followed the Fighting-Type would suddenly hit the ground as a rather large dictionary fell upon his head, ironically opening to the definition of the word 'manners' when it hit the ground.
Withdrawing his hand from the open air and hooking a thumb in to his belt, Raven would take a slow calming breath before looking back to Miss Rose. So she could understand the Riolu...not surprising if this was the front-line, they'd need to be armed with every tool available. It was almost refreshing to appear sane when responding to his Pokemon...though perhaps a little embarrassing once he considered the somewhat...unique assortment of personalities he'd collected.
When the woman turned to move Raven fell in to place smoothly and began to follow "I live in a small cave, and before that dwelt in trash piles. Whatever you have is likely..." The boy stumbled at the name Forelorn, his eyes widening for an instant before his features took on a reflexive mask of calm. He had to give the Organization one thing. Their power might be dwindling but their information network was simply superb. He'd never once mentioned his birth name outside of the confines of his own mind since arriving at the Academy...yet still.
Raven hesitated for a moment, something he wasn't prone to doing. His eyes narrowed watching the woman's face for any hints to what she was thinking. The child's eyebrows would knit in thought, his left hand tightening on the hilt of his weapon as he attempted to calm himself. Finally he would release a sigh, there was little point in attempting to lie about or deny his connections; doubtful either option would end favourably. Lips pressing together in a tight line, Raven would take a deep breath before speaking "I have long since cut ties with House Forelorn of Ecruteak. Nor have I ever laid claim to the other blood flowing through my veins...I have never born true right" Raven proclaimed in a surprisingly calm voice, as if he had expected to explain this to another some day "From the moment I stepped foot in to the Academy, for better or worse and until the day my sword falls, I am Raven Illiaster Pheonix. A name I alone possess, unhindered by ties to the past." It was a statement filled with the boy's conviction; a fact amplified by how the child's crimson eyes now blazed, displaying his determination to bear the consequences of this decision no matter what they may be.
">Hooie! Thah was 'n awful luot a big wuhds there!<" West remarked abruptly, looking up at is 'Pa' with curious eyes ">Reckon ah done lost thah trail pah way. Whahs 'unhinduh'd' meen?<" The young Riolu asked, presently lifting the Dictionary up and down with just his tail as if it were some kind of weight rather than the potential answer to his queston.

"That is a shame ....they may be venomous snakes, but, if you know what you are doing ...even those type of snakes can be very useful. Alright, Raven, since you came clean ..with me on the subject ...let's forget it was every mention."
The woman would declare with a dismissal wave of her hand. IN her mind, he had protest too much, and it almost made her want to check out a little more of his background story. NO one ....normally try that hard to make it clear they weren't apart.
True the Forelorn are proven traitors, but, they were also the sort that favor the winning side. IF they sent a son of their house here, it would give a great implication of how things were swing in the underworld, and though her family tend to stay on top of the information superhighway ..nothing ...is perfect or absolute.
The woman would suddenly realize her train of thought and the fact being she was probably staring off into space as she would ruffle her own hair quickly to get her mind back into the present.
"Anyway, let me show you to the sleeping den or the barracks ..whichever you wish to call it."
She would declare for a second time. Elisa would have to get used to having a kid around as well ....as the thought made her skin crawl for moment. Though this one seemed to have a good grasp of common sense, so maybe, just maybe it won't be so bad. She would lead him to the place to clean up ...the sleeping den itself was a tent like structure that had the appearances of a dome.
Inside, he would find six rows of bunk beds, and a actual wall for the bathroom that was build like a cube. There was also pallets on the floor seemingly of different hues ...for different trainer's pokemon. It was stupid to have all of your pokemon in a pokeball ...as the thought occurred to her then to warn him.
"Now, Raven, you are on the front lines, so unlike at home ...its best to keep at least one pokemon out at all times."
She would caution him.
"I have my own circling at this moment, so, don't think I am telling you a r rule I am not following myself. Attacks can happen at any time and came come from any place, so, if you choose West to be your companion at this moment ...then make sure he is aware that this isn't some pleasure trip.
He can and will be attacked while he is here, and so will you."
Elisa made it a point to make that clear.
"WE have places for your pokemon to sleep as well as in the nursing center a place to transport pokemon between here and your land. So don't hesitate for a moment to switch or to leave your pokemon out and about.
Just keep him your eye sight."
She would caution once more before she looked around the room and turned to exit.
"I will be back in about let's say an hour. So freshen up as much as you can, there is different size clothing for the taking in that top dress by the bathroom. Make sure you leave your self time to take a nap. I will be back to show you more of our camp, later."
With that Elisa would turn and leave Raven on his own.
Raven would wait in silence for the woman's response, thankful when she both accepted it, and failed to question his decision further. He had a number of reasons for departing from his family. Three of which he certainly didn't wish to talk about. The child didn't argue the comment about them being snakes. Realistically they were more of a flock however...though not necessarily birds of a feather.
"Barracks...it's swifter...though I suppose simply referring to it as 'the den' would be faster still" Raven stated, although he was being oddly chatty for him, he wanted to make it clear he wasn't normally one to waste words.
">Fasder 's always bedder!<" West commented as if it were the truest fact in the world, still lifting the dictionary up and down as they walked, passing it between his paws still completely ignorant to it's purpose.
Raven for his part would remain completely silent for the remainder of the journey as well as the reveal of the frightliner's dwelling. Technically it was a significant improvement from what he was used to. He hadn't been joking about living in a cave after all. The boy slept on a rock and used his bag for a pillow. That was however beside the point, although she had suggested a nap he doubted he'd be getting much sleep.
Instead Raven would take the time to reach for his belt, grabbing one of the balls and releasing it. She advised he keep at least one Pokemon out at all times? Well the choice was an obvious one. A Pokemon that could be out in the open yet remain unseen. The Yamask Diabound. "I want you to hide in plain sight and watch our back" The boy instructed calmly, looking the Yamask in the eyes.
Unsurprisingly the response he received from the spectre would be a yawn. He had no reason to argue, nor would he have even if he did. He was a thief, and remaining unseen made thieving all the easier. With this thought in mind the Yamask would vanish from sight, all save his golden mask which would be hooked on to the back of the child's belt, held in place by the presently invisible connection between it and Diabound. The Ghost-Type himself would simply slip in to Raven's shadow. Not all creatures were fooled simply by turning intangible, best he pick a spot where he could blend as well.
"Now as for you..." Raven would turn to West next, crouching low "Eyes open, ears sharp. React quickly to surprises and prove your claims" The boy stated to the Riolu, rubbing the Fighting-Type's head.
">Ya can coun' on me pardner!<" The Riolu replied, giving a sharp salute before he began to march about the room 'keeping watch'.
Giving a faint nod the boy would then do something a little strange. Unsure of which if any bunk to use, he would instead choose to lay on the floor. He was more accustomed to hard ground beneath him anyway. Laying in a position which was quick to rise from he'd then close his eyes. He wasn't sure if he'd actually sleep, but Miss Rose had suggested it so he'd best try.

Surprisingly enough, it would be uneventful ...he would be able to sleep to his heart content until the woman actually came back to get him. She was sure that he would probably be running all over the place at that point, but found that he was as well manner as he had acted at the beginning. He also seem to be the type to listen, that was good, as she came in to find him on the floor.
Not exactly the best place to find a kid, but she didn't bother to worry about it as she would wave at his Riolu first. Then find herself confronted by another pokemon as her own would swoop in through the door ...to land on her outstretched arm. The bird was a good three feet in size, and it was easily 54pounds it wasn't an easy creature to have on one's arm, but the woman carried it with no problem as the Talonflame would look over at them both with keen eyes that seemed to be appraise both boy and pokemon.
She would steady herself as Elisa would stroke it's head.
Without bothering to open his eyes the boy would respond calmly "I've grown accustomed to the way my clothes shift during movement, and I very much doubt this is a place where we can afford the liability of different clothes slowing me down even fractionally" That said the child would sit up, rising to his feet a moment later as he chose to add "Besides, my clothes are fire proof." Well his cloak was at least, but considering it covered the majority of his body roughly eighty percent of the time it was close enough.
West on the other hand would prove a great deal more upbeat, waving to the woman whole heartedly before giving Raven a lopsided salutre ">S'all clear!<" Or at least as far as the Riolu could tell. He couldn't see much inside of a tent, and he wasn't really sure what to listen or sniff for...well, it was dangerous, so it must smell like danger!
"So where to?" Raven asked, arching a brow as he cast his gaze in the woman's direction. Of course he'd immediately take notice of her companion as well...admittedly not a species he was strictly familiar with, but his PokeDex would light up a moment later and provide the necessary details. There weren't a particularly large number of Fire and Flying Type Pokemon, and there was something about this one he liked immediately.
">S'long as we git ther fast whah's it madder?<" West would pipe in, scratching the top of his head and pushing his hat to one side. Well no one had ever accused the Riolu of thinking things through.

The woman didn't like his reply about clothing, but she wasn't going to argue. If he wanted to continue to stick out like a sore thumb that was his problem, ...she wasn't going to ruffled her feather or something so stupid. So, she let his explanation go before she would reply to both of their questions.
"Food."
She would remark lightly.
"I am sure you want something to eat before I show you around this place. Though ...don't think about telling me you aren't hungry or something like that. The mess hall is a great place for you to meet my underlings and partners, as well as to make sure everyone know, you aren't cannon fodder."
Elisa would stop for a moment as the big bird would shift it's weight. The movement would make her shift her weight as well.
"Cannon fodder around here means you aren't meant to live very long ...tends to be whenever they send up some ...snob from the safety of the back lines here, because, they have step on a few of the wrong shoes.
Some of us, try to help them, and others help themselves to them.
You need to understand, there is a strict code between us, no one ...does anything to start a fight. There is too much temptation to hesitate when the one in trouble have slighted you.
But, with a newbie, or temp ...well ....no one cares one way or the other what happens until they prove themselves."
She hated how much explaining she had to do at that moment. As the Talonflame would actually chirp in amusement. No one would believe she spent this much time talking to a newbie.
"Though you are Barney's boy ....so I have a responsibility to keep your safe, and pretty much everyone here will keep an eye on you. Barney's is one of our own, even though he got himself a desk job at the academy now."
"The sooner I tell everyone about you ...the safer you will be."
Elisa ended her speech as she would wave for him to follow as she would exit the tent and immediately throw up her arm to send the Talonflame up into the sky. The bird would start to circle above her head for a moment before catching a thermal and taking back up his position as look out over the entire compound.
Even though it looked like she walked without a pokemon at that moment, it became clear, she had hers with her the entire time she was out. And anytime, she went where he couldn't see her ...he would come back down to land on her arm.
The two didn't separate under any circumstances here, and thus, his shadow would cross their path many times as they made themselves to the mess hall. Another tent, but this one was the color of the sands at their feet. It would seem that this was one of the few buildings that was actually painted in camoflaugue.
Had he been privy to her thoughts, Raven may have commented on how the woman's own outfit didn't exactly blend; but as he was not, the boy would simply nod in response to her words. He may don an easily spotted crimson cloak, but beneath that was entirely black . With such garb his cloak easily became the focus point of an opponent, especially were the child to disappear from sight...and that could easily prove their final error in judgement.
From there Raven would simply stand still and listen, tapping West's paws with his boot every time the Riolu seemed likely to interrupt. The woman made an excellent point, though unfortunately the boy couldn't make any promises about keeping his head down. Though he remained polite, he wasn't exactly the most skilled at keeping off people's toes.
Nodding again when Miss Rose began to move Raven would follow after her, gesturing behind his back in a wordless signal which appeared directed at the Riolu padding behind him...however it was actually directed at Diabound still lurking in the child's shadow.
">Ah'm hungrier than ah Snorlax inna Desert!<" The Riolu proclaimed, perhaps a bit too loudly given their location; a fact which would earn the little jackal a swift kick in the tail.
"I very much doubt that" Raven stated, his voice several octaves lower.
">Fffine. Snorlax onna farm then!<" West would retort, seeming a tad too smug about the swift comeback.
"Also doubtful" Raven replied.

SHe would take them straight to the mess hall as they would enter to have everyone turn and stare. They couldn't help it, ..especially as the massive bird flew though the tent opening as it followed it's trainer. He would do one hard bank before this time ...as she raised her arm once more to take on his weight.
"Hey, Captain."
One of the men would declare with a wave as Elisa would smile at them. It would seem that getting food first would have to happen second, as she would reply back in playful banter. There was no time like the present to make her stance and everyone recognize who this kid is.
"Good evening, Mark. Hey, everyone look here, this is Barney's kid, so he is off limits. Also, keep him out of trouble ...will ya?"
She asked as she winks at the man, and the others will chuckle.
"Is he a hard drinker like him, or a feather weight?"
One of the men from the left would ask. This guy is dress in green and browns, a man for camoflague as he wears the insignia of a Sharpedo cross with leaves.
"Feather weight probably, remember, Barney swore off the stuff before he left."
Elisa would joke as another would sigh.
"Too bad, drink games were always fun with him."
This time a woman in white furs would smirk a bit at him as she declares quite shrewdly.
"He isn't wearing your uniform or insignia is he? NOt smart, he looks like a temp."
She would comment with a chuckle. On her chest was the insignia of a Cubchoo and a ring of flames.
"He don't need it ...no one wants Barney back on the front lines, so just tell everyone in your squads hands off or they deal with me."
She would declare frankly. There was a nod all around then, as she would steer Raven towards one of the tables. Once seat she would point towards the line that lead to the kitchen.
"You are on your own kid, go get what you want to eat, Raven."
Raven would arch a brow once more as his crimson eyes scanned the room, noting the different insignias. Different teams? Odd combinations for sure. Listening to the conversation he couldn't help but mutter "Well that explains the Totodile" Birds of a feather as they say, and it wasn't particularly surprising for someone's Pokemon to take up the same bad habits...quitting them was of course another story altogether.
Directed around the room by the older woman Raven would find himself once again glancing at the various insignia. He had one of his own technically; the Ho-Oh emblazoned on the clasp of his cloak...a somewhat ostentatious thing as he now realized. The purpose was to symbolize his new start, or 'rebirth', but perhaps he needed to invest thought in something a tad more...subtle.
Then came the woman's next comment, and the child would look much like a Deerling in the headlights. He would take a moment to move, but when he did it would be a straight and surprisingly silent march to the line. He could handle himself both upon the battlefield and in the ballroom, however where he went now was a location where table manners and the ability to determine the 'still edible' parts of things in the trash were not going to help him in the slightest. With a single step the boy was now officially out of his comfort zone.
West however seemed totally oblivious to this, his head whipping about so quickly it seemed likely the pup's neck would snap any second. So many new scents, sounds, and appearances!
Diabound on the other hand would be sizing the room up, looking for things to steal. All soldiers, which rarely had anything of interesting; and he was long passed needing to pilfer bread from tables.

On their own, but not alone ....the Yamask might aim to be a bandit in the night ...but he wasn't exactly in a position of being unseen anymore. A Gastly would snicker at his approach with eyes that didn't seem to be laughing, and there was a Froslass that was hovering above it's trainer's table that didn't seem to be at all happy at the sight of another ghost type.
He wouldn't be able to pilfer anything anyway .....afterall, for every trainer in the room ...there was a pokemon out and about as well. Each one watching their trainer closely even as they tried to relax, because, they knew ...being the first to see that command can be the differences between saving their trainer's life or getting them both left behind in a retreat. They were as battle harden as their trainers ...and some of them was just as silly as the Riolu would find his whipping head attracting the attention of one of the other trainer's Pancham as the pokemon would literally call out from underneath the table.
(Howdy there, mate. You'll got's the look of a Deerling caught in a field of Mightyena there. New around here?)
The pokemon would ask just barely poking his head out from underneath the table as he wave.
As for Raven, the movements from there to the kitchen wasn't a far one. The arrangement set up like a cafeteria with a railing to place the tray and everything. The only differences was that it seemed to be self serve with the food lay out where he could easily reach it alongside the plates and silver ware needed.
It would be in this place as he entered one through one door with the objective to sliding his tray to exit through the other that he would find ....his first run in with a temp. A boy that didn't look to be much order than 16 was cowarding in the middle of that area ....right underneath one of the railings where food is place. His back against the metal of the counter that held the food as tears ran down his face.
He didn't want to go out there ....he had mess up his time ...as his Pignite would huddle with him underneath there. They were hoping not to be seen, everytime, someone had come in and grab their food he had shiver in fear of discovery. He normally got his food before they arrived, and hide until he was unable to hide anymore as he sniffs softly to himself as his pokemon ...covered in scars would press himself harder into his side.
This was a choice for Raven to get his food and ignore the boy or to speak to him. Afterall, the boy was in hiding.
The Riolu's ears would perk the moment the Pancham spoke, his legs twisting slightly as he pivoted sharply to meet the creatures gaze. A glint of recognition appeared in his eyes for a moment, a smirk dancing on his maw as he brought up a paw and tipped the front of his hat upward ">Gosh nah. Feels more lahk a herd a Tauros just waitin' fer a Pyroar tah show! Don' wanna git trampled in thah stampede<" West stated cheerfully ">Done gone...<" It was then one ear would c**k a little higher than the other, the Fighting-Type glancing over his shoulder as he noticed his trainer was making some distance ">Ah better mosey afer Ah'm left behahnd! Nice meetin' yah!<" With that the Riolu would dart off, fixing his hat as he ran back to his trainer's side, still keeping alert.
Diabound on the other hand would cross his arms in the child's shadow, a look of disappointment readily available on his face. Well this was no fun. Like robbing tombs but without all the gold if he actually pulled it off. This is why he never went to war zones till after everyone was all corpses.
Raven would walk up to the 'self-serve' area and a look of relief he was glad no one else could see would wash over his face. Alright, so this would be easier than he thought. Like picking out of a trash can only not with his hands, and everything was definitely edible...flavour was an unnecessary factor.
Taking a tray Raven would begin scanning the various contents between the first door and the next...and that was when he'd spot the boy. It didn't take a genius to realize this was what Miss Rose had been referring to earlier about 'temps'. For an entire minute would stare in silence; and when he did make a sound it would be a soft sigh. His eyes would harden and he looked away, going about filling up his tray with whatever he felt necessary from the food available, though he did so in measured amounts...he didn't know whom hadn't eaten yet or how well they were provisioned out here...when reached the 'temp' however he would stop right beside him, not even looking to the older boy as he spoke "Crying won't help you. If you don't want to die than be strong. If you don't know how to be strong than look out those doors, there are plenty of examples" Raven stated calmly, though a tad sharp as he stepped around the boy, dolled something on to the tray and continued "If you don't have the will to live than die quickly and save us all the trouble. Survival is for the strong." With that Raven would depart. He'd considered releasing Fable, a Pokemon just as scarred as the older boy's Pignite...but there was such a thing as having too many Pokemon out and about.
Leaving the room with his tray, the crimson clad boy would return to the table where Miss Rose sat, taking a seat just a little farther from everyone than strictly necessary. From there he would eat in silence, displaying all the etiquette of someone born in to wealth...yet his habit's however didn't match. The placement of his arms slightly blocked the view of his food, his manner of chewing and swallowing was quick, his eyes occasionally darting about. It was like an animal protecting it's food from potential predators, like someone that knew true hunger and had no intention of losing a scrap if they could help it.
Of course he hadn't forgotten his Pokemon; the child occasionally handing a piece to his Riolu, or tossing something over his shoulder to disappear amidst his shadow. Genn and Fable had been fed recently; these two however had not.
Pokemon: Riolu [M] Name & Level: West , Lv 7 [Temperament] Rash Bio: Like all Pokemon West was hatched from an egg, the mechanics of which how Raven obtained are something the boy would rather avoid. Found in a locked room above the Mirage Arena, Raven was able to procure the key to by digging through a leave behind by a Rattata. An unpleasant, yet ultimately worth while endeavour. West himself was born upon the fair grounds during the Hunter's Tournament. Ironically this event took place in front of the Whack-A-Diglett stand, where upon his release into the world the Riolu promptly cracked his skull upon the pavement after Raven had tried to untangle the Fighting-Type from his cloak. This event is blamed by most for the Riolu's somewhat odd personality, that of an old west gun-slinger, accompanied by numerous but unfounded claims of being the Fastest Paws in the West. Shortly after his hatching, an old cowboy hat floating upon the breeze landed upon the Riolu's head. Both boy and Pokemon took this as a sign of the Riolu's future, and thus he was dubbed West.
