It's that time of the year again where crazed shoppers looking for a bargain and/or getting a start on some christmas shopping head over to selected stores, usually starting at midnight, the night of/after (which is it?!?!) thanksgiving and fight to the death for items ranging from flat screen tvs, the latest apparels and a whole truckful of lawn chairs lol Have you had any experience with this event? Anyone planning on checking out a store? Don't plan on it? Well, I was at Kmart for their head start on their Thursday sales. got there at 12am, left at 3am this morning ahhhhhh. Macys and GameStop and other boutiques have opened up at 8pm tonight. Heading to Home Depot in the mornin' to buy a christmas tree surprised Gunna be annoyed for sure with the slow pace of check outs and whatnot but emotion_zombie

Me, risk being trampled to death? No thanks. lol Also these Black Friday events are pretty shitty in that many people get scheduled for Thanksgiving for prep. Like my dad, aunt, and sister...

Like my dad, aunt, and sister... That is the tough part indeed if you are an employee working in retail among other places. cry But business is business crying I do plan on checking out online sales rather than going to these places. Though I only went to Kmart and soon Home Depot because my mom and auntie wouldn't survive alone in these places. sweatdrop

For other stores, uh, do it the day before Thanksgiving. Or at least just leave these shifts for the people who just have cats at home. rolleyes

8am and back from Home Depot, Macys and DNA and it went well!
Home Depot had a long line that zig zagged around their huge parking lot but once they opened, everything went smoothly. Although it was packed, you were able to move around and the lines at the register and self check out went by really quick blaugh Hurray for a new christmas tree heart
Macys was okay, still tons of sales around. makes me wonder what people who went to the 8pm opening got. My old band teacher posted on fb about how she was in line for 2 hours and counting at the time and she barely moved. sweatdrop
Time to check some online stores, cyber monday is too long from now emotion_donotwant

I'm honestly not comfortable with the concept of Black Friday. It doesn't mesh well with how I feel about the world and life. sweatdrop I don't have any problems against people who do enjoy it. Just, it doesn't feel right to me. ._.

Just, it doesn't feel right to me. ._. lets all talk about what we're thankful for and then lets go buy some more stuff the next day stressed I mean, it is partly that. There's just such a strong emphasis on consumerism sandwiched between two holidays that are suppose to be in the spirit of thankfulness that it makes me a bit uncomfortable. ._.;;; Then there's the whole feeling of it taking away from spending time with family and loved ones. More and more stores pushing for not only Black Friday, but for the sales to start on Thanksgiving itself means that their workers are getting less and less time to spend with their families. And from my experience with retail, a lot of the time the employee doesn't have a lot of say in the schedule and they are rarely paid enough to deal with the hassle of the day. Sure, some places do holiday pay of x2 on special days, but something like Black Friday is not a normal holiday. And it can be dangerous and high levels of stress from both the customers, bosses, and fellow employees. I honestly think that people who are forced to work on Black Friday should be paid at least x3 their normal rate for the conditions they are being put in. ._. Though honestly, I think not having those levels of pushed sales or staggering it so that it's not utter insanity would be better for all the people involved... It's like, the mindset that businesses and profit are more important than the individuals that make it possible. Makes me feel icky.

I've never intentionally gone Black Friday shopping. I don't much care for crowds and I hear crazy stories about Black Friday. Did you know that people were apparently beating each other up over TOWELS at WalMart this year?!
I'm all about Cyber Monday though! I bought myself a TV this year. heart

I totally get the bad vibes towards Black Friday. I'm thankful the Wal-Mart I went to felt pretty relaxed that day. The mall was alright too. I'm broke though. razz

Well that's good. But I think I'll still avoid shopping on that day. Yes! I bought it on Best Buy's website and ordered it for "in store pick up", because they don't charge shipping if you pick it up from the store.
