Arias was not unaccustomed to late nights at the bakery; business was one thing, but baking cupcakes and standing behind the counter weren't all his job entailed. Every now and then they had to clean things out, organize the stockroom, scrub things down. Tonight, he had volunteered.

It made the most sense; he lived so close that it meant he shouldn't have had to brave the cold outside for any reason tonight.

Except, he'd spent so long working that he'd missed dinner and didn't have the energy to make something. Which was the perfect excuse to slip out and get something toasty to eat.

There was a diner, just a bit away, that he had made his way to. The cold was not particularly delightful, but the meal made up for it. He'd dressed for the occasion—in a thick jacket and a long scarf.

He was walking; there was so much in this area that was within walking distance that he had no desire to waste the gas getting back and forth. The night was fairly still and he attributed it both to the temperature and the hour, and while he might have wished it a few degrees warmer, he was enjoying the crispness of the air. Everything seemed so much clearer—and yet, something seemed off.

As he was passing by the library he hesitated; he had seen movement somewhere and instinct, rather than encouraging him to hurry on made him stop and peer around.

The Templar of Earth was not exactly expecting company, as usually he was solidly alone by the time he left the library, long after it had ended its usual operating hours. He was not anticipating any deviation from his routine. Stepping out from the glass doors, he locked them securely and moved around to the side alley, pocketing his key and taking a breath before he powered up.

It was always a trip to power up now, and he would have to take some time to get used to it. The rush of power that came with his new rank was intense, though it was not as overwhelming as it had once felt. He was adjusting to things, slowly but surely.

He turned when he heard something nearby, someone walking and then stopping. He frowned, hoping he had not been seen, but he did not feel any auras and that was at least a hopeful sign that it was not a Nega. At least, not one that was powered up, though that thought did nothing to comfort him. It was anti-comfort, in fact, and took away the reassurance he had been trying to give himself.

Sighing, he moved to investigate, poking his head out from the alley to see a man standing near the library, looking around but it did not appear like he was looking for the easy to spot knight. He did not notice the real source that made the young man stop, though, and cleared his throat as he stepped out from the alley.

Being out late at night, Arias realized he should expect the worst. A robber, some murderer, a feral cat…

But criminals didn't clear their throat to announce a presence, and Arias could only assume that whoever the noise had come from had made the noise as a way to alert him of their presence. Which was reassuring—if they wanted him to know they were there, that meant that they didn't want to scare him, and that was always a good way to start.

His eyes shifted to the source of the noise, and the man that stepped out of the alley.

He wasn't exactly sure what he was looking at.

It was a human, so he didn't have to worry about rabies (probably), but he wasn't dressed in a way that Arias thought normal. He didn't appear to be homeless, so it wasn't like he'd just picked up scraps of metal lying around and…

No, who would even leave a full suit of armor on the side of the road for someone to pick up?

Or maybe he was just cold and imagining things. Maybe his eyes were playing tricks on him.

But then, maybe they weren't, and just staring wasn't going to get any of his questions solved. "Hey," he greeted, as though he was speaking to some friend. "It's, ah, getting a little chilly. Does that keep you warm or is all that metal just making it worse?"

"The metal is fine at keeping out the cold, though the cloak certainly helps," Camelot said, feeling silly now for powering up and basically just asking for this guy to think he was a total weirdo. By now, one would think Camelot was used to the looks he got from the civilians whenever they ran into him.

He certainly knew most of the jokes they went to, in an effort to deal with their confusion and the worry that came with being faced with a potential crazy person.

"I. Ah."

Great, that explained everything. He was sure he could just leap up to a roof and scramble away, but that seemed rude. Camelot was torn between his pride and his manners, which seemed to happen more often than he would have liked. He would just have to suffer his embarrassment for now.

"I thought there was some trouble. I came to investigate. But ah. It seems everything is... okay..." He stared at his own feet as if they might help, but they remained silent.

Arias did not seem to be casting judgment, only struggling to understand. He couldn't imagine anything less than being bundled up as he was, and for as iconic as a suit of armor was, he could not imagine wanting to wear it around town. He nodded, tilting his head to look at the suit, though seemed to realize a few seconds later that staring silently probably wasn't the most polite thing.

"Oh! All right. Well, I assume with a getup like that, you certainly look like you should be taking care of trouble. That thing looks like it's heavy. Where do you get something like that?" he asked, prompted only by curiosity. It might not have been such an interesting sight if it was a younger man dressing up; he knew that this generation and the next had their quirks. But an older man? There had to be more of a story behind that. Unless he was pulling some Don Quixote, but…
