"Are you certain you're up for this?" It was a question she didn't want to answer herself. Mentally she was ready, but her tailbone still ached the slightest bit, and the only thing keeping her elbow from bruising had to be Armagnac.

"And you'll let me know if you need anything this time?" The look she sent in Jake's direction was one of 'I know you won't want to, but you should'. "I didn't grab a new supply of things for my own health, okay."

Sherry was fairly certain she'd be fine, her job had a lot of watching and yelling and a bit of technical stuff, but Jake's was much more dangerous in her opinion. And that was the only reason she was wary about this. Now that she knew more about why he was so determined to hunt these things... His stubborn streak could do him in with this. She had a feeling he'd hunt them until he dropped from exhaustion or worse. Which was why she wasn't about to let him go hunting alone or with some random hunter. As long as he was with her, she could be certain he'd get some rest sooner or later.

To be honest, he wasn't sure if he was EVER ready to take down a 30-foot titan or however the heck tall that insanity beast was, but he had resolved to do this, and wasn't backing out anytime soon, no matter how much his body protested.

"I will, promise."

Had he known her determination to help him with this, he would have been touched, not that he wasn't already, and, well, it wasn't like he was planning on running this with anyone else, since he highly doubted anyone would want to face this thing more than once, and here he was treating it like a past-time hobby.

"Ok, let's get started."

This titan seemed a little rowdier than the last, and so he had trouble securing his cord.
Huffing, he retrieved his equipment, making sure none of it was damaged. Ok, so far, so good.

"Sherry, you might want to stand back."

Taking a running start, he took the throttle handles in his hands and jumped, giving himself an extra burst into the air. He just had to hold up his end, and then Sherry could do her part. If he failed even this...

... no, he could do this.
Concentrating, he maneuvered around the titan, managing to find an unguarded spot and landed, wasting no time in securing his harnesses to it.

"Ok, your turn!"

Sherry smiled. He better darn well be promising to tell her when he needed help. "Good." For all her annoyance at him not telling her, there was nothing but warmth in that smile and in her voice.

"Let's." The sooner they got started, the sooner they'd be done. Even if she had no intention of standing back. She had her own pride, too.

Not too much pride not to cheer when Jake secured his end of the tether. "Good work!" She yelled. And then she was moving, hands running over the item she needed to secure in the ground. Hopefully this would go smoothly.

Click! Thump! And a few other noises as the anchor kicked in and grabbed hold of the ground. A nice sturdy grip. Perfect.

"Okay! It's secure! Now we just have to keep it busy!"

While Jake had to keep it busy, she had to keep an eye on him. Easy enough. She'd practiced this enough by this point.

"Keep an eye on things! But so far, looks like you're good!" Nothing sparking, and though the beast was a little bit thrashy, it wasn't too bad. They would have this one down in no time, surely. Hopefully.

"It's all yours now!" More or less.

Ok, it looked like things were secured on her end too. Time for action.
Pulling out the daggers, he gave them a look over, wondering where he should attack first. During the last titan patrol, all he had been doing was focusing on taking the titan down as quickly as possible. But perhaps... perhaps he should take the opportunity to try calling out to Chester, just like before? It wasn't a spar, but the real thing. Sherry might hold back, but a titan wouldn't, and if he screwed up, he was done for. Perhaps in this circumstance, it'd be easier to reach out to him?

Of course Sherry would hold back in a spar. Having a dead Jake on her hands would be a terrible thing. And of course a Titan would not be holding back, whatever their goal for being on the island was it wasn’t to be nice to the little human residents of the island. Which was why Sherry was taking her job so seriously. Even if her weapon still thought it was a waste of time.

“Keep your head in the game, Jake!” She couldn’t quite tell, but he almost seemed to be hesitating. “You can handle this! We’ve taken down a few of these things before! This one will be no different!” Hopefully. They’d had a pretty good run so far, even with her getting knocked out that one time. “Come on!”

He was lost in thought now, barely hearing Sherry. Maybe... maybe if he tried now...
Sherry was shouting something, and he turned, eyes glazing over the life hunter shouting at him from below.

"...no different..."

... that's right. No matter what he did, it made no difference. Even when he put his mind and heart into it, he wasn't able to summon Chester, so what made him think it'd make any difference now? The titan shifted, making him lose his balance, and he grunted as he smacked against a spike, the dagger barrier protesting against the strain. For just a moment, he thought he saw a spark of... green?

...Chester?

No, now was not the time. He had to take this down.
He turned around and stabbed the dagger down.

If Sherry knew what was going on in Jake’s mind she would have tried to do something about it. Sadly, she didn’t know. She only knew that he stumbled, and then recovered. Which may have been for the best, for there was likely nothing she could say that would make Jake’s inner worries easier on him. It was maybe best that Sherry didn’t know at all.

But that was neither here nor there.

“Watch it!” She said, before she realized it wasn’t really all that helpful of a thing to say. “We got this!” She really should just hush, since she really had nothing helpful to say right at that moment. The beast was just trying to bumble around and the anchor was holding strong. So far so good, she surmised.

Whatever went on inside Jake's head was always a minefield of trouble, and something Sherry would soon know, if she didn't already. As it was, he pieced together that that flash of light might have been Chester, and had happened when he ended up hurting himself. Perhaps if he did it again...

But then he heard Sherry's voice, and turned to see her shouting encouragements at him. Or at least, he supposed they were encouragements (it was kinda hard to hear so high up). No, he couldn't hurt himself on purpose. Chester would never let him live it down, and neither would Sherry. He just had to concentrate and hope for the best.

The beast shifted again, making Jake brush against another spike. There had to be some way for it to keep still...
Perhaps...

He pulled out the hand torches, determined to put them to good use.

She had an inkling that Jake’s mental musings often ended up in places of trouble. That’s not to say her own never did, but at least she had Armagnac to point out when she was thinking herself into trouble. Usually. Armagnac had been keeping a lot of opinions to herself as of late. Sherry couldn’t quite blame her, she knew what it was like to be angry at someone and have them not budge on the topic that was causing the rift. She only hoped sooner or later they’d come to a point where they did not disagree so very much.

Thank you. Sherry was just glad Armagnac had stopped constantly calling for blood and death. She was glad that Armagnac seemed willing to change her opinion, much as she had before. Slowly and maybe, but it was better than nothing. There was still a lot of hate oozing from her weapon, though. Exhausting as ever. You two just need time.

I am sure you can. Out loud she yelled, “Spike! Behind you! Sparks!” At least sparking spikes were easy to spot, usually.

Alas, Jake also used to have a voice of reason in his head that often talked him out of stupid ideas, such as getting himself hurt on purpose so he could try bringing his weapon back, but with said voice missing, he had to learn to think for himself now. At least, he had decency to realize hurting one's self on purpose was never a reason or solution to ANYTHING, and so he pushed that thought aside. No, he would find a way.

Sherry's shouting alerted him to the spike behind him, and he moved just in time.
"Thanks!"
Now, to get back on task.

Not helpful. Sherry almost rolled her eyes, but then she almost smirked. The emotion that came with her weapon’s words was not purely hate or anything. Annoyance was something Sherry could deal with. Now, if you don’t mind, I do need to focus a little. Wouldn’t it be sad if we were all eaten?

How much of that she thought was a good thing, the weapon kept to herself.

Nodding to no one who could actually see it, Sherry did her best to put all of her focus on the titan, the runic gear, and the death hunter doing what he could to distract the beast. “Nice!” she said of Jake’s dodge. “Keep an eye on that one!”

It seemed they were starting to work in sync now, as he narrowly managed to dodge another spike. It was starting off slow at first, but if he kept up this momentum, then perhaps...

But then, of course, it felt as if it was the runic's doing rather his own. That last strike had been a little wide, but he supposed to flames from the hand torch caught on. While it did help, he couldn't always rely on runics to pull him through, which meant runics in general, as WELL as his dagger. He had to learn how to re-summon Chester as soon as possible.
