The ride through the westfold had proven to be rough and uneventful for the most part. She had followed the entwash for a fortnight before going straight into the brown lands. Just as the name said the land looked as if it was set ablaze and scorched. Not a single green thing grew from what her elvish sight could tell. The Mearas Canarnor carried her swiftly to the eaves of Mirkwood before halting suddenly as they reached the edge of the trees. Some dark aura had been cast over the land and she was staring straight ahead " Dol guldur" The name came out in a whispered breath and a cold shiver ran down her spine. The elf had recieved disturbing news from messengers, something had taken up residence in that evil place. So she reined Caranor to face north and then gave his sides a solid kick once and he rode like the sun.
They were following the river Celduin that connected to Esgaroth and forest river in Mirkwood. It took a few days and then some due to orcs coming upon her camp in the night but they at last were looking upon the eaves of Mirkwood. Her hood had been drawn over her visage so she could pass swiftly and quietly, the only thing one could see was the feathers from her earcuff.
Yet her ears were ever attuned to the forest trees and floor, knowing the Malledhrim did not welcome strangers into their lands easily." restan fæstlice*" The langauge she spoke was harsh for it was the language of the Rohirrim. After having spent years among them,Ithilwen had began to learn their langauge and soon enough she was speaking it since Caranor responded to the verbal commands. By now they were deep within the dark woods and she was starting to regret this idea. " I should've gone through Lórien" But the orcs had come upon her encampment and she had no time to flee to Lorien without risking Caranor.
They had warg riders as well which was just as bad as dealing with them without the Wargs. Rather than taking on an orc patrol, she had rode like the wind over the outcroppings and came to here. Caranor had let out a snort as he jumped over a fallen tree and continued onward at a light pace down the elf path. If the two were to stray from it, they would never find it again and become lost in the dark woods. The huge horse clearly was wanting to get out of these woods and so was Ithilwen. She had heard tales of the spiders becoming bolder and that was the last thing Ithilwen wanted to confront.

His patrol had been in these woods for nearly 3 days now. The spiders had been relentless. Legolas pulled an arrow from one of the spiders, making a slight face at the blood that coated it. The darkness had been spreading for sometime now....but not at this pace. It was rapid.....uncontrollable......and unforgiving. Almost all of the woodland creatures had either fallen to the rising darkness or fled. Now, they dealt with each wave as it came.
He could hear hoof beats approaching off in the distance.....someone had crossed the boarder. He signaled to the patrol to take cover and wait, while he did the same. Sure enough, a rider passed by on a red horse, wearing a cloak. His patrol sprung from their hiding places, bows already notched and drawn, aimed at the trespasser. Legolas kept his distance, but had his bow notched all the same. "Who dares to trespass here and what is your business here? Choose your words carefully, as they may be your last" he called, watching them intently, bow ready to be drawn at a moments notice.

Ithilwen had heard the patrol, for her hearing was sharp as always yet all the same she reined Caranor to slow his gait and eventually halted as the patrol surrounded her with arrows aimed at the two. She was calm all the same as the leader of the group questioned her buisness in the woodland realm. And here Ithilwen thought the Malledhrim were a peaceful folk like the Galahdrim in the south. Clearly the ranger had been mistaken. " I'm but a ranger seeking passage through the woodland realm to Imladris. I bring ill tidings to the lord of Rivendell" It was true, she was on a rather urgent trip to Imladris and Ithilwen was not exactly the kind to be delayed.
Caranor pawed the ground anxiously and shifted his weight, he was not liking this ilk. They had drawn weapons on their own kind which itself was strange in the eyes of the Mearas. " Will you grant me passage or must I go south?" Ithilwen questioned the prince while turning her hooded gaze onto him. She had drawn the reins tightly on Caranor, preparing to turn around should he tell her so, it was no use arguing when she could be doing something else with her time.

Legolas studied her as she explained her situation. So she had important news for Elrond.....on what? He waved his hand and the patrol lowered their weapons, stepping back from her. "I give you leave, though I would advise against it. The spider's have grown bolder, they attack anything that passes by them" he told her, unnotching his arrow and putting it back into his quiver.
He glanced back over to her, taking a few steps towards her. "May I inquire as to what your.....ill tidings are?" he asked. If it was important enough to inform Elrond, perhaps it was something his father should know of. Perhaps she had more news on the happenings at Dol Guldur. They had heard plenty of rumors surrounding the abandoned fortress, but nothing that they could prove.....not yet.

She could feel the prince studying her from where she sat astride the Mearas. A silent breath of relief seemed to leave her lips as the arrows were lowered. The spiders have grown bolder? That was ill news and this would delay the she-elf by far. Caranor had snorted and shifted his weight as the prince dared to come closer to the two. He asked what tidings she had to offer the lord of Imladris and even inquired if she would be willing to share them. Sighing, the elf nodded her head " I bring tidings from the Riddermark. Dunendlings have grown bolder and orcs are roaming freely across the riddermark. Their numbers are greater than the usual. Something has taken up residence in dol Guldur as well" Ithilwen was very certain of the last bit of news for she had felt the dark aura herself. The elf however dared not to even come close to that vile place. she had now urged Caranor onward at a walk.
It was but a few steps he taken before the sudden shift in his weight nearly unhorsed its rider. His left hind hoof was balancing off the ground in discomfort. Concerned, Ithilwen had dismounted and looked down to see that he was indeed missing a shoe and was bleeding steadily. " Mellon nin why did you not say something?" She spoke in a light tone as she patted his hindquarters gently. In his haste he had lost the shoe and had taken a blow to his leg It was not a severe one but she wanted a healer to at least tend to it. coming out of her crouch, she walked to the front to place her forehead on his muzzle while holding the reins. " I fear we are going to be delayed my friend" She spoke in Rohirric knowing Caranor would indeed understand what Ithilwen was saying.
Caranor nickered and nuzzled her; he understood. The two would indeed be delayed for quite some time until he got new shoes and a splint on his leg. The pain was dull but he could feel his blood flowing freely onto the soil.

Her news was indeed grim....so something HAD taken up residence in dol Guldur. And now news of orcs roaming freely across the riddermark....something was definitely stirring. But now it seemed they had more pressing matters at hand: her mount was missing a shoe and injured and she would now have to find another way to Rivendell. There was a growing concern in the back of his mind: the fresh blood would attract the spiders. Already, he could feel the warning tingling at the base of his spine and he grew nervous.
"You may follow us if you so desire. We can refit your friend with new shoes and treat his wounds. It would give you time to rest and re-supply as well, but we must move quickly. I fear the blood may draw unwanted attention from the spiders."

Ithilwen had all but ripped the hem of her cloak and used it as a makeshift bandage to keep Caranor from further injuring himself. Sadly she was no sorceress and could not mask the smell of copper. Now they would surely have to make hast before the spiders descended upon them. Ithilwen had kept herself calm despite the warning bells going off in her head. She took hold of the reins and began to lead Caranor rather hastily further into the woods. Never once did the ranger leave the path. " Well then let us not linger" ithilwen called while not even once pausing to make sure the prince was following. She knew little of the greenwood but Ithilwen was not one to wait. Caranor needed to be tended too at once and she was low on supplies too.Not once did the Mearas make a sound as his huge hooves hit the ground, depsite the pain he has shown great resilience to it. His proud head shook from side to side; the armor jingling with each toss of the head. The sooner they got out of this the better.
