It had rained last night and there was mud everywhere. Of course Areo didn't mind because he took great joy in splashing the mud and water at everyone or anything. It was almost mid-day and at this point the little lion was almost completely brown from messing around in the mud. He debated on going back to the cave like this, however, mother wouldn't approve and he knew better than to traipse mud all through their sleeping area. So that meant he'd have to wash it all off. He could do that later though, he was having too much fun at the moment jumping in the mud. He crouched and pounced as fast and far as he could into the air and came crashing down with a plop in the mud. It wasn't as wet as it had been earlier and he was now realizing, much to his dismay, that he might be stuck. What once was fluid was now glue like as the suns heat started to suck out the moisture and he sighed as he attempted to lift his legs out of the mud. He succeeded in releasing his front left paw, however, with nothing to grab onto it went straight back into the dark mire and he realized he was probably in trouble. 'mother is going to kill me..' he thought to himself as he looked around. At least he was in a well known area and it was just a matter of time before someone he knew came by and could, much to his distaste, lend him a paw.

Mother was going to kill him, oh yes she was!

Izzy nearly hopped about in glee at the idea of one of her siblings getting into trouble! She was just weird like that, she liked to follow the rules, and didn't take kindly to those who didn't do the same! Why should she work so hard to be so good, if everyone else wasn't going to do the same?

She shivered in anticipation as she glanced from left to right, watching her step as she hopped from dry spot to dry spot. She wasn't going to get an ounce of mud on her today! Mother had only just given her a bath, and she was oh so silky clean! She was actually quite proud of that, that clean feeling! It made her fur shine so brightly! If it wasn't such a rainy day, she'd be lying out on a rock somewhere enjoying the sun. But nooooo... she was out in the rain looking for Areo again!

Izzy was at the end of her rope! The rain was ruining her good mood, and now she couldn't find her brother! Frustrated, she huffed in a deep breath to shout his name, but then something bright orange caught her from the corner of her eye.

"Ha! You are going to be in soooo much trouble when Mom sees yooooooooouuuu....."

"Ha! You are going to be in soooo much trouble when Mom sees yooooooooouuuu....." Not her, anyone but her!! His ears flattened against the top of his skull and he cringed at the sound of her voice. He prayed to the gods above that it was anyone but his sister Izzy, but there was no mistaking that voice and with a swish of his tail he turned his gaze in her direction. Mom was definitely going to find out now. She had spent all morning cleaning everyone, he had been the first one done, and it seemed Izzy had finally finished and he had gone out and ruined his beautiful grooming. "Only if someone tells her....." He said grimly as he looked over at his smug little sister. (do we even know who is older than who lol). But what else could he do. It's not like he was going to go home muddy. He was going to go play in the watering hole later to get all the mud off before she could find out but now Izzy knew and he was doomed. However, being muddy was the least of his worries and he wondered if she even realized he was stuck. Maybe she'd offer and he wouldn't have to ask, because the last thing he wanted to do was ask his sister for help.

"So....What are you up to, besides being annoying" He said the last part under his breath and sighed as he looked around for something he might be able to grab onto, but he knew it was useless and the only way to get out was for her to bring him something but he was going to try all he could to not ask for her help.

Izzy snickered with glee as she watched her brother bathing around in the mud, why wasn't he getting out? She'd busted him! His fun was over, time to get out and face the music! Only .. he wasn't coming out, and he wasn't even moving. Her ears perked a bit out of curiosity, but there was no way she was going anywhere near him! He might pull her in so she would get in trouble too!

And there was just no way that way happening.

"Ohhhh I don't think anyone has to tell her anything! Don't you think you're muddy little hide is going to be enough of a rat on its own?" She giggled, raising a paw to her maw to stifle the noise.

"Wellll you know... Momma gave me a bath, and then I noticed you weren't in the den ... so I thought i'd come and look for you! Y'know because its raining and all ... or did you not notice?" Still she watched him, taking note that he was hardly moving around in there, what on earth was he doing?

"Not that its my business or anything ... but what is it you're doing?"

"Ohhhh I don't think anyone has to tell her anything! Don't you think you're muddy little hide is going to be enough of a rat on its own?" Clearly his dear little sister wasn't entirely understanding of how one could not get into trouble if they knew how to clear away evidence. He heard her stifle a giggle and he realized she wasn't coming anywhere near him. He had thought about pulling her in with him at one point while he was stuck here but then they'd both be stuck and that wouldn't do anyone any good. Had it been under different circumstances he would have loved to watch her shriek because mud got on her.

[I lol'd when you wrote "he might pull her in" because I was honestly contemplating having him do that]. As he watched her watch him he got the heart sinking feeling she wasn't going to catch on to the fact he was stuck and no longer just playing in the mud. "Wellll you know... Momma gave me a bath, and then I noticed you weren't in the den ... so I thought i'd come and look for you! Y'know because its raining and all ... or did you not notice?" He chuckled and looked at the ground a moment before looking back at her as she finished speaking. "Not that its my business or anything ... but what is it you're doing?"

"Well. I wasn't going to come home all muddy ya know. I'm a little smarter than that. He gave her a wink and then frowned. Apparently he hadn't been smart enough to not get stuck. "You know I don't like staying in the cave that much so I decided to come out here and have some fun..." He paused and figured it was best to just rip the band aid off quickly and just get it all out in the open. "I was jumping in puddles but, ... this one was more mud than water.... and..." he looked back at the ground and folded his ears. He had to just say it and it was killing him to do it. "...I'm stuck..." He looked back at her and gave her a sheepish grin. She was just going to love this.

Izzy's ears were fully perked as she listened to her brother's story, so far it wasn't all that impressive. So he had decided to leave the den ... in the rain ... didn't he know anything?! He could have been struck by lightening! The female merely shook her head in mental exhaustion at her older brother, he was such a handful! She had no idea how her mother could handle him sometimes!

Then came the moment of truth, and it took a moment for his words to sink in. But boy! Once they did, Izzy had herself a good little laugh of it all. "Hahahaa! Are you kidding me right now? You got stuck? How did you not notice the mud was so thick you goof?!" The poor girl was on the verge of tears before she finally cleared her throat and decided she really needed to get down to business. Izzy heaved a heavy sigh and huffed at her brother, "I guess I gotta help you outta there now don't I Areo?" She glared at her brother, knowing exactly what her help was going to entail.

She was going to get dirty.

Really dirty.

ooooohhh was he ever going to pay for this one later!

"Alright, how are we going to do this Mr. Smarty Pants?" She asked, giving her brother an accusatory glare.

xD She is never going to let him live this one down. Especially if she has to get dirty >:]

He knew right away that she would never let him live this down but he could always deny this having ever happened. "Alright, laugh it up. This is like the only time this is EVER going to happen.." He looked at the mud he was stuck in and then back at his sister. "It wasn't this thick when I was jumping in it earlier..." He realized he didn't have to explain it all to her so he just stopped right there and looked at her as she realized that she was going to have to get muddy in order to help him. It put a small smile on his face because he knew how much she hated being dirty, however he didn't let himself bask in the knowledge of it, he did, after all, need her help.

"If you can find a branch that's kinda long and not too heavy for you to put near me I'll be able to grab it and pull myself out that way, but you'll have to put your weight on the other end of it or its not going to work." He wondered where she was going to find a branch at in this little area, but you never really know what you could find around

He realized that as the rain was starting to slowly come to a stop the ground seemed to want to suck up any remaining moisture and he put one and one together. If he was in here for too much longer they were going to need Mom because he was going to be too stuck for either of them to do anything about it. "Were going to have to make this kinda quick.." He gave her a sheepish grin. All he could do was sit and wait.

She was indeed laughing it up, Areo need not invite her to that part! She was far ahead of him, though she did know it was a race against time. There were far too many different 'what ifs' that could come into play at any moment. Luckily Areo had a plan, and it seemed pretty viable.

"A branch?

OH! I know just where to find one! I was walking across it one the way here, and I think I can carry it too!"
The cub bounced about happily on her paws and turned to skitter off in the direction of the branch. But turned her head back to her brother for one final word.

"You stay put, and don't go anywhere ok?" Snickering to herself, she darted away without another word.

----

She knew the branch was around here somewhere! It just had to be. She'd been climbing on it when she'd noticed Area was missing! Wasn't it just around here that she'd seen it? There was the tree she'd thought it had fallen from ... so where was the br --- "Gotcha!" She called, pouncing excitedly at the branch as she spotted it.

Quickly gripping it in her teeth she tried to tug it for a moment. It wasn't budging. A frown crossed over the cub's face, but she wasn't about to give up yet. Taking in one final deep breath, she took the branch in her mouth and tugged with all her might.

AH-HA SUCCESS!

Izzy nearly released the branch from her mouth as she tried to shout out her victory to the highest mountaintops. But she knew she couldn't do that. Her brother needed her.

----

It took some time, but she had finally managed to get the branch back to Areo, and it seemed she couldn't have done so at a better! The mud seemed to be getting thicker around him, and that wasn't a good sign.

"OK!" She panted. "I got ... the branch! Now ... lets get you out of there!"

"Ha...Ha... Very funny." He responded as he watched his sister bound away to find this so called branch. He hoped she would pull through, not that he doubted her competency, he just didn't want to get his hopes up too high.

While he patiently awaited his sisters return he used his free paw to swat at unsuspecting insects that decided to scurry around on the hardening mud within reach. 'I guess I can't be too hard on her... If it wasn't for her I'd be stuck here all day. Maybe I should start being nicer to her...' He thought to himself for a moment. 'Nah. Whats the point of being a big brother if you don't boss around your siblings!' He decided he may tone it down a notch when it came to the "ugh, izzy's here" comments. She was saving his furry behind today and he won't ever forget that.

As if on cue she came into view dragging a rather large branch, even for her size. He had to give her brownie points for that. Look at his baby sister all strong, made him proud. Not that he would tell her; maybe one day. "Can you push it towards me without getting stuck yourself so I can grab on with my one good paw and mouth?" Look at him being polite, mom would be proud.

Hopefully she wouldn't ever hear of this.

Alright! The mud was getting thicker this was a now or never scenario! As much as she loved tattle telling on her siblings, she disliked the idea of Areo getting in trouble for this one. It was obviously not his fault that he'd gotten stuck. And on top of that, it was way too dangerous to leave him alone and go get Mother! A Hyena could come along and make an easy snack of him like this!

Izzy shuddered at the idea, but still focused on what needed to be done. The idea still lingered though, and scared her to her core. She didn't want to lose her brother to a nasty hyena, though she would never tell him that! He would just make fun of her for being all sentimental and gushy! As if he didn't poke enough fun at her already!

"Yeah - Yeah I can do that! You just hurry and latch on! The mud is getting harder Areo! Hurry and get your grip so I can get you out of this mess!" She nearly squealed the answer to him, not out of anger but out of fear. Not only was it getting darker as a result of the rain clouds, but it was actually drawing near the end of the day as well! Mom would be looking for them soon, and they wouldn't be able to see once nightfall fell!

He could only hurry as fast as she put the branch in his reach and he watched as she placed it within his reach. "I'm hurrying as fast as I can. Just make sure you don't get stuck in the parts that are still sticky. I'm going to try and pull myself out now." He dug his one good paw into the bark of the branch and tugged a bit and prepared to latch his mouth on to help tug himself out. He looked at his sister and hoped she was ready for this.

He didn't doubt her weight would hold him after watching her drag the branch over here and he hoped his assumption was correct. His mouth grabbed onto a part of the branch that was large enough he wouldn't break but small enough to grip and latched on hard. He pulled and felt himself start to loosen up a bit and he realized she might have to tug from her end a little bit.
"Yooor ooing to haff to tuug a liddle bit." He said with a mouthful of branch. If he could just pull his other front paw free he'd be able to pull himself out the rest of the way.

"Hey! I'm not the one who got stuck in here in the first place!" She giggled, all the while prepared to do her part to get him out. "So don't you worry about me, let's just get you out of there!" Sticking her tongue out playfully at her brother, she watched as he tried to pull his own way out. But he wasn't getting much of anywhere on his own. It was definitely time for plan B.

Nodding to herself, she had already sprung into action before Areo's words could reach her ears. "Alright, i'm on it! You just get ready to pull too! OK! On ze count ov vree"" She grunted through her clenched teeth.

"Von ...

Tvoooo ....

VREE!"

She had barely managed to grunt the words before she shoved her claws deep into the ground and began to pull against her own weight. It wasn't long before she could feel the log begin to give in and slowly inch in her direction.

"Ve're Doiving ittt!" uuussstt a itttlle oooorrreee" She managed, once more putting all of her weight into one final tug. She could tell her brother was almost free! All it was going to take was one more precise pull and he'd be out of there and safe once more.

haha, my bad XD I read this post at least 5 times and thought I had responded already.

As she began to count he began to braced himself to pull the last little bit out. He could feel his other paw becoming free and as she said three he pulled it free and grabbed on and began to tug her lower body from the hardening mud. She gave one hard tug and he pulled with her and if there was a pop sound it was probably made because out he went.

Surely enough he went sailing, though not as dramatically as one would have thought. It was more of a short pounce like dramatization and of course he was going to collide into his sister and the branch was in there somewhere in the mess.

He quickly dislodged himself from the mess of fur, mud and objects and then pounced on her, hugging her. This was all the brotherly love she was going to get haha.
"You did good. Thanks." He dislodged himself from his hug from her and shook himself and realized they were going to have to find a watering hole to get this cleaned off of themselves. Well, mostly him.

"You going to come with me to get cleaned up? Or you going to go do Izzy things? He said as he began to bound off towards the nearest water spot.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 06, 2014 5:55 pm

Izzy hardly had any time to cheer before her brother had pounced on her and given her the most brotherly hug he could manage. Mud and gunk included! She wanted to squeal and groan at him, but at the same time she was just quite happy that he was alright.

"You're welcome!" She grumbled, as the two became disentangled. She watched as her brother began to saunter off and his words sank in. What was she going to do now?

"Izzy things? Nah, I think i'm going to go do a few more Areo things!

C'mon lets go get cleaned up before Momma comes looking for us."
