History: Oreldir was born to a poor blacksmith in Gondor. When his mother died during childbirth, his father brought him back to his home in Esgaroth, and drowned himself shortly afterwards, leaving Oreldir to grow up with his grandparents. Later, Oreldir would often wake up screaming from nightmares of his father walking trance-like off the shores of the lake and disappearing soundlessly into the water, the slender white arms of a bloodless woman rising from the mirror-like waters at the last moment to wrap around his father's shoulders and drag him under.
His grandfather was a bitter old man and raised Oreldir the way he raised his father, with rough words and strict blows. He wanted Oreldir to be a blacksmith as he and his son had been, but Oreldir never had any interest in the smithing arts, though he became rather skilled at shaping and creating weapons.
When Oreldir turned seventeen, his grandparents died and left him his inheritance, including a locked box and a small fortune in gold coins. Inside the box was a pair of glittering mithril hunting knives attached to a note in his father's handwriting, describing their value and asking him to use them as he would.
He sold the house that had left him with so many bad memories. Having no interest in smithing, he journeyed to Imladris and begged the counsel of Lord Elrond, who, over the course of five years, taught Oreldir to hunt, speak, write, and endure like one of the elven race. He returned to Esgaroth and built himself a small cottage on the outskirts of Esgaroth, as close to the forests as possible.
